I use Opcon A from B&L, is that the same as the advanced eye relief? The Opcon A stings s bit but leaves my eyes clear.

Opcon A is different. The Bausch & Lomb Advanced Eye Relief (Redness) this is on the bottle. It does not sting. I found it at WalMart for $2.98 a bottle.

I just bought the advanced eye relief by B&L,it's not as good. Opcon A works a bit better for me, much clearer eyes. Trial and error it's unbelievable

Can't believe this nightmare of no more Visine LR started about a year ago. Thanks to my mass purchasing of product when I had coupons and a lesson learned from the last time we had no Visine - I am down to a few precious bottles set to expire next month. I am now using these every third day or so with B & L in between. Trying to ration as long as I can. Secretly wishing someone would introduce more stock or a new product. Out of habit, I still check.

Dear all,

I am finally really satisfied with Cendo Asthenof Oxymetazoline (Similar to Visine LR Long Lasting). Excellent product but difficulty in obtaining it and is very expensive. Also the bottles contain only 5 ml instead of the average 15 ml. It is manufactured in Indonesia and it's really very inexpensive if purchased in Indonesia.

I finally gave in and started making my own mixture of approximately 25% Afrin and 75% artificial tears about 3 weeks ago. This is the ratio that works perfect for me. I use only 1 drop in each eye only once first thing in the am and my eyes stays clear for most of the day. From my experience the more I used visine lr the more bloodshot my eyes would be the following day. I use to do 2 drops in each eye in the am and if I was going out at night I would do another drop in the evening I was forced to use my last bottle of visine only 1x a day to make it last longer and started noticing my eyes being clearer the next day. I had about 1/2 a bottle of my expired LR left when I decided to experiment. I'm so glad I did. I feel it works so much better than my old bottle. (Probably because it was expired). Anyways I've had no issues with the mixture. Doesn't burn my eyes. I was concerned of getting an eye infection if I contaminated while mixing it but so far so good. ( I was extra cautious when removing the cap off of the artificial tears bottle/ stop & shop care one brand) This relieved the anxiety building up when I was down to my last bottle. Having bloodshot eyes for most of my life has been a great source if embarrassment for me. Good luck to everyone on here with whatever direction you decide.

Chris, where do you order Allergex from? I have ordered Allergex and I love it! However, I noticed sellers are raising their prices. I tried to order online and had a bad experience. It didn't get shipped for a month. I had to keep emailing and when it finally arrived to the U.S., I was asked by the transportation company to produce a copy of my prescription, passport and an invoice. Much the same experience I had when trying to order Oxylin. I have no problem ordering Zoamet but I prefer Allergex. I agree with you in that it does seem to work a little better than l.r. All in all I just wish for an oxymetazoline drop to become available in the U.S. again.

So, I was just "browsing" around on my computer, when the thought came to me: "How do celebrities keep their eyes white?"

Then I decided to use that as a search and I came up with a site that says beauty editors and makeup artists rely on products like "Rohto's Cooling Eye Drops" and Innoxa's Blue Drops from Switzerland. I was like, "Wuh?"

I've never heard of these eye drops before, have any of you?

Anyway the Rohto's supposedly tingle when you put them in your eyes and do well at relieving redness.

When I can, I'm going to try these drops.

I was just thinking that movie stars wear makeup, etc and they have to have bright eyes when they appear on set and on talk shows and what not.

I see the Rohto's brand on Amazon with great reviews. I figure it is worth a try.

I've discovered so many helpful home remedies, cosmetics and products that are never in ads or in commercials. We always see the common, famous brands. We have to really look for what we want. The Internet certainly helps.

Rhonda,

I tried the Rohto drops when we were all trying different drops as an alternative to the LR. The cooling ones just BURNED so badly going in. They just weren't as good as the LR IMHO. Also, not as good as the B & L for me personally. I find them anywhere, like my grocery store and my local Walmart. I ended up throwing the bottle away. Couldn't even finish it. The B & L at least feel as good as the LR do first thing in the morning. Some days I can get the initial drops I put in my eyes in the morning to last all day/night. Most days I have to use morning and late afternoon. For now; I'm testing out Allergex and Oxylin. I've already repurchased the Allergex at a lower price-point after my initial purchase of two bottles -- so I felt it was a good deal. I find the Allergex to be as good, if not better than LR.

Thank you, Christina in PA.

You're saving me some money. I was thinking the "tingling" feeling was only slight.

I haven't tried Allergex yet, but maybe that will be next on my list. It would just be so great if one of the companies/pharmacies would decide to use oxymetazoline in eye drops again. It would make my year.

Rhonda,

It was a good idea to look up what the celebrities are using. We have to stay creative! Anyway, I agree with Christina in PA. I also tried the Rhoto's eyedrops but unfortunately they didn't work for me. My eyes were still red and didn't bring me any relief. Honestly I don't know if there will ever be eyedrops manufactured in the US with oxymetazoline? I just don't get it.

Matthew, your logic is wrong. A normal eye is white, without blood vessels showing. Due to some kind of abnormal condition, the blood vessels dilate, so they appear in the eye. Eye drops to remove redness constrict the blood vessels back to normal.

I'm like Karl. I can't say exactly how long I used Visine LR (and, before that, OcuClear). Total of at least over 20 years of the oxymetazoline eye drops... every single day. Got my eyes checked around 2 years ago and they are very healthy.

Years ago, I remember doctors warning about using eye drops daily. I don't know why I took the risk. Probably because I hadn't noticed any negative symptoms, so I just kept going. It was so worth it to me to have nice, bright eyes.

Hi all. Just wanted to let anyone from Canada know that I ordered 10 bottles of Allergex from Expatshop and it could not have gone smoother. Paid around $120 (cdn) for 10 bottles (including air shipping) and they arrived in about a week. Works just as well as Visine Lr (Workplace to us Canadians). Don't pay those crazy ebay prices!

This is really good news.... because I like Allergex and I believe it's safer than trying to make your own (although I am about to try it using the Walgreens Artificial tears). It's also cheaper than other options. The good thing with my last purchase, was the seller came back to offer me Allergex at a discount which roughly equated to 25 a bottle instead of the normal selling price. I thought that was a "decent" deal, considering all things. No hassles with going to get a prepaid card, no waiting, no wondering and the product came in tact. I think I'll be going to go get that pre-paid card!

Just found the s thread, feeling the same 'no LR or Workplace' pain as everyone else..! I am a CDN expat living in US and the last two bottles I ever saw on a shelf were the Workplaces I bought on a trip to Canada in April 2015. About to run out last year, I remembered how once back in the '80s using a nasal spray whitened my eyes, and noticed at the time the ingredient was the same as my beloved Ocu-Clear eye drops. I took the chance first with undiluted Afrin (Original Formula, red cap) and really had no problem after about 6 months, I was just concerned about long term use at that strength.

So, for the last while I have been 1:1 mixing Afrin with my favorite artificial tears, Kroger grocery store brand (their Nasal Decongestant is also excellent for this purpose, the bottle is same shape and style as Afrin, no gels or mints, and on sale, both the tears and nasal spray are super cheap) - concentration is thus 1/2 the nasal spray, 0.025% - works like a charm, 1-2 drops each eye, just mind your clean technique (to mix as previously mentioned, but also to handle the bottle while using it)
Every 2 months or so it costs about $15 total to buy one nasal spray and two eye drops; discard half the drops from each bottle and mix my batch, a bottle for each of the coming two months. Now just wondering when Afrin goes off the market...!
