Visine Lr Discontinued? (Page 21) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHaving problems finding this product. Has it been discontinued and if so, do you know why?
No, I did not do any research on this as it is an approved OTC med. I have had no reactions whatsoever that differed from the Visine LR. I did not do this for money. I did it because the tetrahydrozaline and naphazoline used in other products are completely ineffective at removing the redness in my eyes. Were they, I would gladly keep purchasing them.
There are 3 other eye drops that contain oxymetazoline on the market:
1. Zoamet - It sometimes stings during application but works similar to VLR. It is $36.00 but I got mine for $28.00. You only get a 5ml bottle (VLR is a 15ml bottle) so you will need 3 bottles to equal one bottle of VLR. It doesn't seem to last ALL DAY like VLR did but it does the trick!
2. Allergex - It comes in a 15ml bottle and it's about $50.00 (I paid a lot more for my tester bottle). I've only tried it twice so far but I've had positive results. I'd say that Allergex is the most similar to VLR and the best replacement given the price for the quantity!
3. Cendo Asthenof - It comes in a 5ml bottle and is about $42.00 after shipping and thus will cost close to $130.00 for 15ml. I have not tried this yet because I'm hesitant due to how the listing worded the description as "Genuine Eye Drops (5 ml) -Similar to Cendo Asthenof...Non irritating & sterile eye tonic in special Cendo dropper bottle." This wording leads me to believe that the eye drops might not be genuine Cendo Asthenof eye drops but rather are a tonic imitation in a Cendo Asthenof bottle (probably nose spray and eye drops).
I noticed the guy selling Cendo Asthenof on ebay just changed his listing around since I posted my issues with his wording and price. That only tells me that he is following this thread. He changed the wording to say it is similar to VLR but he never once identifies his product as genuine Cendo Asthenof eye drops. He also drastically lowered the price so I can only imagine that he knows he is selling counterfeit eye drops and is trying to dump his load!
Has anyone ordered allergex from a website other than eBay? I've seen a website with an address called zimseller? Is this site reputable? Any info would be helpful, thanks.
I haven't tried any other international sites after dealing with alldaypills and receiving empty bottles. International items seem prone to being smashed when shipped over seas which, I guess, is why you're not suppose to ship liquids.
I did check out the site and their shipping costs are outrageous. It's actually cheaper to buy a bottle of Allergex off of ebay now that the price has dropped. Allergex is selling on ebay for about half of what I paid for my bottle.
I had the same issue with them as others have reported with alldaypills. You receive empty bottles and their customer service tells you to buy more and they will make up for the losses. Don't think for a minute that the high cost for shipping has anything to do with them properly packaging the items for international shipping. Hopefully others have better luck than I did!
Hi everyone,
Well, thanks to the info posted here, I have now just ordered Allergex eye drops from ebay. Zoamet is just not cutting it for me. I know other people have said it feels like VLR but it doesn't to me! My eyes sting all day and are glossy. I researched Allergex and found a press release from Adcock Ingram Healthcare announcing the launch of Allergex eye drops which will replace Sparkling White eye drops. I HOPE this is the one. Otherwise, I'm running out of options and will have to stick with B&L coupled with artificial tears eye drops but I find myself using the drops all day long. VLR Lover and Wes: You give me hope!
This is great news. Can you please include the dosage of each medication prescribed? Thanks for the info.
Hi all, I will be going to the UK and Ireland for the next couple of weeks, is there something comparable to Visine LR in these areas ? Thanks
Used VLR for years and years. Have on out-dated bottle left. Dr. gave me a Rx and sample for PATADAY (does have olopatdine). Sample was tiny bottle Alcon (trademark) 0.5 ml. (so small can't read it) Walgreens gave me a price on Rx same tiny bottle about 25 drops. With Ins paying some still was over $130.00. Glad I had the sample did not work as good a VLR. I've tried most all eye drops even tried nose spray with olopatdine (do not use) Pharmacy told me. So far the best I have found is B L advanced Eye Relief (twice a day) low price at WM. almost as good as VLR does make ur eyes feel good. I did say almost.
I'll probably write at least one more letter to one of the overseas pharmacies. I hope other countries know how valuable an oxymetazoline eye drop would become to the United States. Maybe they don't realize the need here. If they could just do better with the shipping/customs problems and assure me of safety like, say, Walmart, Walgreens, etc, I would purchase from them.
Thank you so much Christina from PA ! Workplace Visine is also discontinued.
Thank you for your post. You are absolutely correct. Spoke with my Pharmacist during the last outage and he verified that it was exactly like nose sprays, once your cold is over you still need the spray so you won't get stuffed up! I too changed to BL redness and it's OK, but not as good as Visine LR. Like you, I have wondered why the "clandestine" nature of discontinued brand. Hmmmmm?
I mix the Afrin nasal spray that has the 1% Oxy... that is the active ingredient in the Visine L.R. as per an earlier post months ago. I've mixed it with sterile water from a fresh water bottle, mixing 50% and 50%, equaling the .05% you got in Visine. I've had my best results mixing the Afrin with the Oxy in it, 50% with 50% Opcon A drops. both are cheap and you can mix in old visine bottle. Add what looks like half and tilt bottle until level to get the most accurate measurement. Both are available through Amazon cheap. My eyes are red-free all day long.
" I'm not working right now, but I feel very self conscious about what I will look like when I return to the workplace."
I did too... but it was OK. Thanks for my laugh of the day!
Hello, I'm Portuguese and unfortunately my English is not the best.
However, I want to make known the experience I have in the use of eye drops with oxymetazoline. I started using Alerjon for eight years, put only one drop in every day and had white eyes. I was super happy. After three or four years of use, it has been discontinued. I was only 14 years and then knew nothing about vasoconstrictor or of active substances. So I went to a pharmacy and asked for a colirio to remove red eye. Obviously it failed. I tried all they had on the market and no obtia result. I had a few months into depression because awakened with eyes blood. I was seeing five or six ophthalmologists and they prescribed dexamethasone, and only this allowed me going out, but the eye was still red. I was very popular at school, but at the moment everything started to say that I walked to smoke herb because it looked like a drugged authentic.
One day a friend of my mother (pharmaceutical), arrived at my house and gave me the Oxylin and said he would solve my problem. I told him I did not believe and had no hope. Well, I was incredibly surprised with the result. The Collyrium is absolutely wonderful. Woke up with eyes in blood and feathers eat one drop in each eye they were incredibly white. I became happy, so it is good to leave home with the feeling of having white eyes. However they spent four years of happiness and colirio was discontinued. That's why I found this site. I can not live without oximetazoline, the Oxylin is absolutely fantastic, if you have to pay dearly for it has no problem. I have here even a bottle that had pleased as a reserve, the problem is that the term ends later this month, will have problem in using it? For all who suffer from this problem and have the opportunity to buy the Oxylin, experience is very good. Is there a safe place to buy it?
I got some Oxylin online and they work the best out of everything out there. I also had good results with the Allergex and highly recommend them as a replacement. Zoamet works very well but burns a little when you put it in and they leave your eyes somewhat glassy. All three of these products are over the counter.
Try Bausch & Lomb Advanced Eye Relief it really works well or as good as Visine LR.
It's at Walmart and cost less than $3. My eyes are white again.
It's Bausch & Lomb Advanced Eye Relief Redness Instant Relief
I'm finally down to my last droplets of Visine LR... maybe just a few more times to use it. The bottle expired in September and I've been eking it out all this year. I only use it when I really need it--like for a job interview. Visine LR was a good friend all these years and I am sad to have to part with it.
I've certainly done my best. I fought the fight. I've written all kinds of letters to different manufacturers... to no avail. As long as our economy is in the dumps, I don't think any company is willing to take a chance and produce eye drops containing oxymetazoline in it. With globalization and the competition it brings, I think most companies are hurting. That's why most every product you buy, gets "cut down" in some way. They start removing certain ingredients and changing the original product. I've purchased newly created creams that were cut down in a matter of months. You're loving it and then one day you buy it and it's not the same cream.
The B + L's Advanced Eye Relief is probably the next best eye drops on the shelves, but, for me, there is still a big difference. If my eyes become really tired and red, the B + L provides minimal results. Plus, the results don't last very long.
Also, compare the prices. You can purchase 2 bottles (as I always do) of B + L for a "little of nothing." And you can believe you are getting what you paid for.
