Visine Lr Discontinued? (Page 20)
UpdatedHaving problems finding this product. Has it been discontinued and if so, do you know why?
Is Zoamet only found in India?
Zoamet is only available in India?
India, but I just saw them on eBay.
On this same website, there is a conversation going on about the lack of eyedrops with oxymetazoline, see:
Discuss/eye-drops-with-oxymetazoline-204670_p1_s2.htm
I am going to ask them to join our page here and sign the petition to Johnson and Johnson to bring Visine LR back.
Also, does anyone remember Ocuclear? I think we should contact Shering-Plough Healthcare (the manufacturer of the eydrops) and ask them to be Ocuclear Eyedrops back. If you all remember these eyedrops did have oxymetazoline in them.
Perhaps if Johnson and Johnson will not help us, Shering-Plough may?
Does anyone has connections to a pharmaceutical company?
I've been trying for the last few days to buy visine workplace from shoppers, rexal, london drugs, walmart, etc in Calgary; however I've been told it is discontinued. Does anyone know how I can get it on the internet or any substitution? Thanks in advance
@Pedro,
Welcome to our world! This product is getting more and more difficult to find. We've heard cases of a bottle here and there but will eventually be gone with the Johnson & Johnson discontinuation decision. Other than paying through the nose on eBay, here's what you can do:
1. Call them at 888-734-7648 and demand they "re-launch the Visine LR product"
2. Visit and sign the petition: change.org/p/johnson-johnson-bring-back-visine-long-lasting-redness-relief-visine-lr?recruiter=548817&utm_campaign
No Pedro, we don't. That's why we are all here. :)
I really hate this....but so glad that I stock piled when I saw them, especially when there was a coupon for Visine. I tried the Rite Aid Allergy drops and although they work -- they don't provide the LONG lasting relief, nor that first-thing-in-the-morning coolness and instant relief you get from LR. That's probably the key right there, the LONG LASTING means not-as-often-used, therefore less product bought. So it's outta here.
Everyone do what I do: Go to Walgreens and look for Nostrilla nose spray. It contains the same Active Ingredient (per Spray): Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride (0.05%). Inactive Ingredients: Benzalkonium Chloride 0.02% as a Preservative, Glycine, Hydrochloric Acid, Sorbitol Solution, Water.
We need to find someone who is willing to be a wholesaler of this product in the USA:
alibaba.com/product-detail/Red-Eye-Relieve-Oxymetazoline-Hydrochloride-Eye_1633857263.html
Omg .. De ja vu all over again from 2010. This is a product that actually worked! And it has been taken from us again. I too signed petition and also contacted JnJ on their website . Don't let this happen again .. Voice your concerns .. We must b heard
George,
Are you sure you want to use Nostrilla nasal decongestant spray for your eyes? I would not use it. Just because it contains oxymetazoline does not make it safe. Compare the two. Nostrilla contains more oxymetazoline and stronger ingredients.
NOSTRILLA contains:
Oxymetazoline hydrochloride 0.05%.............Nasal decongestant
benzalkonium chloride 0.02% as a preservative
glycine
hydrochloric acid
sorbitol solution
water
VISINE LR contains:
Oxymetazoline HCL 0.025%
benzalkonium chloride
boric acid
edetate disodium
purified water
sodium borate
sodium chloride
George,
I want to add that although the ingredients other than oxymetazoline in Nostrilla and Visine LR are basically inactive, "BusinessDictionary.com" has this to say about inactive ingredients:
Components which (irrespective of their relative quantity) do not help directly in achieving a product's performance objectives. They may, however, facilitate acceptance, application, stability, handling or marketing of the product, or delivery of the active ingredients. Not all inert ingredients are safe and, in some cases, are more dangerous than the active ingredients. Also called inert ingredients.
I also am not sure about putting nasal spray in my eyes. Yes, I know it has oxymetazoline as an ingredient but as Rhonda points out they also use different concentrations, along with other ingredients, not found in Visine LR.
I have asked Johnson and Johnson to provide me the name and addresses of those with power to reinstate Visine LR and bring it back on the market. I hope once the petition reaches 100 signatures to send it to them. I will keep everyone posted. Thank you all again for those who have signed!
I would be weary of putting a nasal spary in my eyes as well.. sad that this is what we are resorting to b/c of the nonsense related to the discontinuation of our beloved L.R. here is a Post on this thread from when this happened back in 2010 and these 2 products seem to have all the ingredients of L.R Albeit it also includes a nasal spray .. Please also protest this on FB and other forms of Social Media .. Companies hate bad press on Social Media and we must be heard ..
here goes on prior post:
I noticed that there are other allergy products on the market which contain the same key ingredient as Visine LR called Oxymetazoline. The only thing is that they come as a nasal spray and the proportion of Oxymetazoline is a higher dose.
Here is an example:
Visine LR contained Oxymetazoline HCl 0.025% as the active ingredient along with Benzalkonium Chloride, Boric Acid, Edetate Disodium, Purified Water, Sodium Borate, and Sodium Chloride as the inactive ingredients.
A nasal spray such as Afrin contains Oxymetazoline HCI 0.05% as the active ingredient along with Benzalkonium Chloride Solution, Benzyl Alcohol, Edetate Disodium, Polyethylene Glycol, Povidone, Propylene Glycol, Purified Water, Sodium Phosphate Dibasic, Sodium Phosphate Monobasic as the inactive ingredients.
A saline solution called Advanced Eye Relief Eye Wash made by Bausch & Lomb contains Purified Water as the main ingredient along with Boric Acid, Sodium Borate, Sodium Chloride, Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Edetate Disodium 0.025%, and Sorbic Acid 0.1% as the inactive ingredients.
If you were to mix 2 parts Afrin with 1 part Eye Wash you would essentially dilute it from being 0.05% Oxymetazoline HCl to 0.025%, the same proportion as in the original Visine LR! Just be sure to mix it as accurately as possible (you can use the sterile cup included with the eye wash) and then place the mixture back into a sterile eye drop container which is empty.
Hopefully this will help some of you. Please exercise caution and proceed at your own risk. This is not intended to be medical advice. The above products are available over the counter and aren't expensive at all.

Advanced Eye Relief Eye Wash
Best of luck!
Anthony (and everyone here),
I have taken your advice. I will continue to try on all social media avenues to try to get Johnson and Johnson to bring this product back.
I still need about 15 more signatures on the change.org petition:
change.org/p/johnson-johnson-bring-back-visine-long-lasting-redness-relief-visine-lr
Hi - i am another dissatisfied Visine LR user and live in the UK so only pick up the product when i come here. I have contacted the Alibaba supplier to see if there is a retail supplier somewhere (there must be!!). Can you confirm my signature has been added to the petition as my laptop crashed when i was doing it. Thanks. Patrick
Hi Patrick,
I checked on the petition and did not see your name. It only showed me the most recent signatures and any of those who left comments. I don't know if I have access to the names of everyone who signed. I am new to this process but am so frustrated, I wanted to do "something."
Let us know if you have any luck with Alibaba. I think the problem is however that Johnson and Johnson has stopped manufacturing Visine LR. I don't know if Alibaba
could find the product to distribute? Thank you for signing the petition!
Just another (of many) looking for Visine LR. I had no idea a shortage was coming. Thankfully, I bought a couple at Rite Aid last month. Of course, now there is none to be found. It doesn't stop me from looking tho. I signed the petition and will check in with this site to see if there are updates or if anyone finds an eye drop equivalent.
I truly cannot believe the outrageous prices on ebay and amazon. Wow.
For what its worth i just spoke with a consumer care person at J&J Canada. I outlined my disappointment that workplace had been discontinued. I gave them links to this forum and to the Ebay ads for $40/bottle for LR. You would think they would see that there is consumer demand. i was assured that my concerns would be passed up the chain in a report and that i may be contacted again........
