Hi Concerned Mom,

There is a thread here on Sleep Paralysis with Hallucinations. You should probably read through it. I have posted several things on there myself. I have had sp all my life, but the Viibryd did make it worse for a while....and the Ambien and all other sleep meds I have tried have given me awful dreams. There are many on here that have had the experiences your son is having. They for me went away after a few months, but the medicine helped me so much that I was willing to continue. I really love this med. It has changed my life. But do go to that thread on here. It will explain things since I guess you haven't heard of sp. Not many people have...

This drug scares the heck out of me! I've followed the standard "wean on" procedure while halving Effexor until I began the 40mg dose and am now at full strength Viibryd and zero Effexor for 5 days. I've experienced a HORRIBLE taste in my mouth and completely disrupted sleep for about 3 days now while blood pressure has been steadily rising - now at 126/105. I AM DONE with it! Last night my dreams woke me every 5 minutes, were incredibly intense and, although the dream wasn't necessarily scary, I was in total panic. This has been going on for 2 days now and I am completely disoriented and my body feel as though it has consumed a dangerous qty of speed. I've been through Effexor withdrawal and this is nothing like it so am certain it is the Viibryd causing this complete meltdown. A full .25 mg dose of Xanax is the only thing keeping me from losing it. I am pretty scared and intend to visit my pharmacist this morning since my Dr is currently out of town. I want his opinion as to how quickly I can gear back up on the Effexor and get this Viibryd poison out of my system.

Lorelei, I'm so sorry that your doctor dismissed you like that. I hope you've been able to find another, better one. And all you folks that suffered joint pain like me - mine still isn't completely gone (knees and knuckles). How crappy. The Viibryd energized me and worked good as an antidepressant, but the joint pain side effect was a deal breaker for me. I'm very glad that I didn't have the nightmares and hallucinations reported by other posters. Hope everyone is doing better :)

Thank you. I'm still in my silent hell with coming off this drug on my own. I bought a pill splitter and weaned myself off it but I have no other meds. I'm starting to believe they are all poison and natural is the way to go. Do we really know what we're putting in our bodies?! Wake up call! I still don't have a new psych but with the little hutzpa that is in me still, I filed a grievance against BAD DOC!

That's pretty much what my doctor advised I do, however I am no doctor and I'd never suggest you do that without consulting with him/her first. Can you leave a message to have your doctor call you? Viibryd is a drug deserving of a bit of fear - personally, I can't wait to be rid of it - now taking 5mg/day to wean off. Good luck - don't hesitate to get to a medical professional if you have any further adverse reactions.

You need to get off of this drug, but PLEASE do it under a doctor's supervision! Even though I'm no longer taking Viibryd I am still experiencing dizziness, fatigue, pain, depression and sadness. I go back to see the doctor next week, but he is not convinced everything I've gone through - including a 25 lb. weight gain - is due to the Viibryd. I am completely convinced!

It took less than a week for my hips to feel better. At about 10 days I realized that my sprained ankle that had never healed and was thinking of seeing a podiatrist about was feeling fine.

Agree the drug is worse than depression! The withdrawl is real ... I am drinking lots of water and taking brisk walks -- hoping this will help get all the Viibryd out of my system...

I am now on the last three 20 mg (viibryd) or so and I guess my biggest complaint I'm having are my ankles and lower leg hurting. I haven't gotten back to myself yet and really afraid of upping the dosage. Just wondering how long these side effects last....

I've been on viibryd for almost three weeks now, five days on 40mg. Most of the side effects have been tolerable. Last night I had a headache so I decided to take an Alieve. About two hours later I expienced some major brain zaps ( never had them before) scared the crap out of me. It felt like I had some sort of seizure. I believe it had something to do with the Alieve I took. Has anyone else experienced anything like that?

Ringing in ears for me may go along with what are known as brain zaps and as time goes by they happen only once in a while such as over stressed or over tired. Someone said never take Viibryd at night. This is false information as not everyone has night terrors. People keep in mind that because one or ten people have certain side effects it does not mean everyone has the same. This is the type of medication that you have to use your own judgement and adjust dosing, times and anything else associated to you and the medication to make it work best for you. Yes, even a psychiatrist cannot make this call. Do not generalize. I do believe this is powerful medication and not for many. I lately have lots of leg pain and right now cannot figure out if it is because of the medication or a lot of work and holidays. Anything something changes with you it should be question. I can say that my depression is at least 90% improved but there are times that it does break through and I have to mentally control my feelings. I am still experimenting with this medication with time as it goes along. The huge decrease in depression is well worth it to me but I cannot help wondering how long this will last.

Not at people experience night terrors but this medication comes with specific instructions that tell you not to take at bed time. It should be taken with a larger meal for better effects. It helps to ease any side effects. Yes every med is different for every person, but this is not a general response when you should caution this medication. It is not been out that long and there are far too many people having severe side effects. Not all, but for the majority. With any med, always take precautions.

I'm only 19 years and I have been taking this medication for well over a year now. I noticwd my nightmares amd body shocks after the first week or so. I have been explaining the night sweats and the terrible nightmares, sleep paralysis, and everything that goes with it. She keeps saying not to worry about it because they are just simply nightmares. After reading some of your posts, I am relieved that I am not the only one. Hopefully my doctor will finally listen to be after a year to take me off of this damn thing! My nightmares are affecting my daily life because I'm afraid of going to sleep at night. If anyone of you can help me at all please do

I've been on the 40mg dose of Viibryd about 2 months now. Honestly it has taken about that amount of time to get used to it. I worked years ago in Psychiatry and the instruction we always gave was that these type medicines can take up to 2 weeks to work. BullS***. Now I know. A good 2 months or more. I had a lot of gas and some frequency of bowel movement, in the beginning as well as early morning awakening. I do sweat at night but all SSRIs cause that. That one rarely goes away. All the others have. I find I go to sleep very well but have a harder time getting out of bed. A constant ringing in my ears seemed to start after I started the med., but my NP thinks some of that is age related. Had an Audiology consult and that "expert" had no idea. I was having as a large part of my depressive symptoms some uncontrollable anxiety and aggression. My emotions are still there but my BP doesn't go up and I get over my anger more easily. i do get tired in the afternoon some days, but I'm also treated for Hypothyroid. Hard to deferentiate from that. Some loss of Libido but still have a bit of drive.

I am sorry to say but this is true. I have been on Viibryd for about 5.5 months. I have been ignoring all sorts of pains from the bottom of my feet, lower/upper legs, knees, arms, palms of hands. I have been getting brain zaps nearly everyday and lately more frequently. Two days ago I was walking my dogs and I felt so much pain as if I was hit by a car several times. I could barely walk. I am in my mid 40's and healthy physically normally. I immediately made the decision to stop Viibryd as now I feel that I am poisoned and practically on my death bed. I have been speaking on this forum since I first started on Viibryd on a more positive note except for the side effects but I now believed I had to bail out before the plane I was on crashes into the ground and kills me. I decided not to ween off as that is how ill I have become suddenly. I cut it off completely as of the last two days. I have constant brain zaps still but they are not nearly as strong as before which are extremely strong. I have been in bed for nearly two days as I have been extremely weak. I am normally a high energy, fast moving person. I feel that I am in recovery and am very much considering never to try Viibryd again. I hope their is no permanent brain, neurological and/or body damage such as to essential organs, bones, etc.

I started with the starter pack one week 10mg, two weeks 20mg, last week 40mg and then for the next 5 months on 40mg. It was definely helping my depression as almost non existant with a plus of extra energy. The side effects where diarrhea, brain zaps and pain on and off mainly bone/joint. This week all those side affects seems to have multiplied at least 6 times stronger where I felt near death. I felt that weening off at such a violent reaction would not be fast enough. It was best to stop immediately as now the side affects such as brain zaps are there more frequently sometimes constant but very weak compared to before. I am drinking lots of coffee and water and trying to rid every molecule out of my system. I must say that the saying the goes "If it is too good to be true it probably is not what is seems" still holds true. I was very pro this drug but my story has changed dramatically. No more Viibryd for me. I felt that I needed to make my experience known to all.

I'm nearly into my 4th month on Viibryd, and for me, the good still far outweighs the bad. It was tough going from 20 to 40 mg the first month, but I just backed down to 20 mg for a few weeks until I could adjust.

For the first two months, my energy level was amazing - probably even a bit excessive. I sure got a lot done and my worklife was unlike it had been in 12 years. During the last month, things have become more balanced. I do miss the crazy level of energy, but the depression is still gone. I feel alive!

Side effects? Some of them are still there but manageable. Diarrhea is ongoing but the occasional Immodium dose tends to keep it in check. Sometimes nausea is an issue but strangely enough, Prevacid OTC will fix it up right away. Getting to sleep has always been an issue regardless of the anti-depressants I've tried, and I've used Ambien for many years. Now it works much better and I don't feel nearly as groggy in the mornings. Low libido has also always been a side effect of my depression, and Viibryd has not helped me in that regard.

The bottom line for me, however, is I no longer want a Mac truck to lose its breaks and mow me down in an intersection. I was really wishing I would just not wake up for years. That's gone! I enjoy many of the things I enjoyed 12 years ago.

Here are a few things to mention in regard to the night terrors many have mentioned on here. The same was happening to me at first. I learned the hard way never to take Viibryd after around noon or it hits me hard at night. I was snoring and waking up gasping for air (I've never been a snorer). The scary dreams were clearly linked. It all went away when I stayed on a program of only taking the medication first thing in the morning.

It seems like if you were having "brain zaps" and muscle pain that a doc would want you off of the med...those are serious side effects...i know the restless leg and headaches are bad enough...im really hoping that this don't happen to me..im on day 9 now and i having experienced any problems with my stomach...i take first thing in the morning with food..i do get gas and sometimes heartburn...ive never been one to use the bathroom much so maybe thats why its not bothering me..i do dream at night but its just normal dreaming and i rarely remember them in the morning...my doctor specifically told me to take in morning with food..the med has a protein binder in it and if not taken with food it decreases its ability to work..after reading thru the side effects with this med ive been watching more closely at my own experiences..i go back to the doc thursday
