Viibryd Side Effects (Page 30)
UpdatedWhat if any side effects are people experiencing on viibryd
This medication began like a lifesaver for me. I had more energy, though it did allow me to sleep less. But after a year I started to plateau with it -it felt less effective, but the side effects were increasing. I started to get really bad jaw pain and I have always had very strong teeth. Within 9 months my teeth had ulcerated and became infected after I had a root canal. Long story-i ended up having to extract 3 teeth!! My jaw pain didn't get better until I finally got off of it-and that took f-o-r-e-v-e-r!! The only drug I ever had this much difficulty getting off of was klonopin. It took me over 7 months to get off of this. I had to finally start on Lexapro half tab to substitute and wane through the side effects. The worst side effect was that I was SO SO exhausted-despite the 5 alarms I set-I'd sleep until 2 in the afternoon. It was terrible. The anxiety increased getting off of it and it changed my thyroid, so now I have to take something for that everyday (hence the exhaustion). Was it worth it? Idk. Teeth implants are so much and I feel awful with out those teeth when I smile. And the migraines from withdrawl were pretty tenuous. If I knew then what I know now? I likely would not have stayed on this. I've never had a drug change my body chemistry so much-albeit, the Drs do not agree that the drug is solely responsible. I know my body. Good luck!!
This is me too, with the nightmares. I am only on 20 mg, start 40 next week, first time I took my 20 mg earlier in the day I had the noghtmares that night, they make me sleepy too sometimes, not all the time though.
I have been on Viibryd about 40 days now. Initially I had stomach cramps, pain and some diarrhea, and gas. Now I have some gas in the morning and the nausea continues, particularly after I eat. I also have pain and/or weakness in my left leg. I get "ticks" where my body has a quick "zap" through it. I am asking the doctor to take me off of this. I am also tired. I previously had luck with Lexapro but it also made me tired and affected my libido. I will be trying Trintillex.
I took 20 mg for 6wks then went to 40mg, day 2 into 40mg, I took it before I went to bed and I heard a zap kind of like electric in my head and it sat up just shocked for a min freaking out. It was inside my head. I've read several other blogs that ppl say they've experienced "brain zaps" I'm really thinking it was the meds so I stopped taking 40 went down to 20
I have been on viibryd for two years and my libido seems to have been wrecked. I just tapered off of it and technically it has been enough time to clear my system considering the short half life. I wonder if i'll ever be my potent self again.
Ruth, I have those same side effects. And a couple I hadn't even connected, like my left knee aching. My anxiety is out of control, I shake inside so badly and now feel fearful. trouble focusing, remembering, can't even read a book. I've lost almost 20 lbs in three months, can't eat at all. Many days I don't eat a bite of food at all. I can't sleep, even with prescription sleep meds. If I sleep 3-4 hrs a night it's a miracle. My legs and feet itch, especially in the evening. I use ant itch ream and still have clawed them raw in places. my heart races, two nights in a row I felt as if I were having a heart attack. Almost packed up to go to the ER.
Last night I skipped taking a vibryd and slept 6 hrs... instead I took an anti anxiety pill.
My psych doctor isn't open to discussion about his choices for me. I'll try him one more time and if he doesn't take me off this poison, I'm done with him and will see my primary md.
Dawnzip, I've had so many serious sleep problems, if I get 3-4 hrs sleep every 24 hrs it's a miracle. My left knee hurts, my legs itch uncontrollably, my head aches, my anxiety is out of control. I've lost 20 lbs In 3 months. I can't eat. I shake inside and feel full of despair.
Ruth, I think I already replied to you but I will say again. I have everyone of those same side effects. Additionally, I've become fearful.... scared of everything. I shake, inside and out and my anxiety had tripled. My heart races so badly on two occasions I thought I was having a heart attack. I've lost almost 20 lbs in two and a half months and sleep has become impossible for me. I can fall asleep but 3-4 hours is all I get.
Pain in my knee, which I never had before, has become constant and my shoulder blade and neck hurt so bad I sit on a hot pad.
My psychiatrist blames me because I've been on anti depressants for years. After a period of time they aren't as effective..... if I didn't have my anti anxiety meds to take with vibryd, I think I'd have ended up in the hospital. My heart will start raving so wildly.
Eventually I believe this med will be withdrawn. It's dangerous.
I have been on viibryd for about 3 months and am experiencing terrible joint pain with swelling. I am calling my doc today. This is NOT in your head. BAD DOCTOR!!
For the past 3 weeks I have been having debilitating leg/sciatic pain. I'm a very active person. Looking back, I noticed some stiffness in my joints about the time I restarted Viibryd. Ive essentially been housebound with waves excruciating pain down my leg into my foot. I've been doing pool exercises, stretches, prednisone, nsaids, Tylenol, heat, ice. All to no avail. I stopped Viibryd today. I have experienced mild back and leg pain before but nothing like this. It seems Viibryd may have the ability to amplify some forms of joint and nerve pain. I'll keep posted of any changes in the pain post Viibryd.
Hi, I was on Wellbutrin for 3 to 4 years and it was working well, then poop-out syndrome. I started a new job in March 2010 and weened myself off, since it wasn't working, over 7 years ago. In retrospect, probably not a great idea. I couldn't find a doctor that took my insurance in DC, so I suffered in silence. I work full-time and have energy while I'm there, but crash at home. I don't feel like doing anything that I use to do, like play volleyball, tennis etc. I found a doctor October 2016, that is 4 blocks from my house, takes my insurance and I like him. I started Viibryd 5mg, now 40mg. The side effects only lasted a couple of days with each increase (nausea, headache). After second visit, I was met by a PA, who is nice, but I'm not 100% sure she is a good fit, but it seems like he's not there when I have my appointments, I digress. After 4 months on it, I noticed some leg cramps and seem to be getting worse. It's been over 6 months now and for the last 2 weeks my legs are hurting (hamstring and base of rump) while walking and especially using stairs. They feel like rubber bands. I have a very physical job and I walk very quickly. It dawned on me to see if anyone else was experiencing this issue. I had a massage last night and she could not feel any tightness or that I have a sciatic issue. The downside to this is where I get my medical care, they don't use email, cash only and I have no way of communicating my concerns without making an appointment. I can go to another doctor, but it's out of network $$$$$.
I was taking Lamotrigine 100mg, Buproprion XL 300mg and Adderall 30mg for years. Then it seemed my depression was getting worse so we bumped bupropion up to 450. That didn't help so I went back to 300 mg and I started Viibryd on 5/18/2015. 10mg the first week, 20mg the second week.
I was feeling great. Wow, I had energy, felt witty with a good sense of humor, but there were some side effects like VERY vivid dreams. Dry mouth. I started to notice that my joints were aching. I went to the dentist and couldn't keep my mouth open because my jaw hurt so much. At week 3, I went for my yearly physical and I could barely drive (manual transmission). It was hard getting up, starting to walk, bending joints. Got x-rays of feet, knees, hands, cervical spine, had blood labs, sleep apnea tests and other stuff.
I was still at 20mg. I was sitting on the toilet and the rug started undulating like a field of wheat - yeah I know all about hallucinations. I researched Viibryd a little deeper and found a few complaints about joint pain, muscle aches and interactions with Bupropion and Adderall, along with hallucinations, dry mouth, etc.
I got a call from my primary. I had slight apnea, but he was more concerned about my oxygen utilization. Blood labs came back showing an elevated RF - rheumatoid factor - so I was supposed to see a rheumatologist. I told him to skip the rheumatologist because I was suspecting that Viibryd was causing my aches. Called my psych doctor and told her I was weaning myself off of it. I dropped down to 10mg for another week.
All of this happened between mid-May and mid-June, 1 month. Afterwards, I was still having joint and muscle issues. I didn't start feeling normal until the following January but I still had flare-ups. RF factor started going down and now it's back to normal. 2 years.
Wish I had found this website prior to my severe reaction which has left me with a stroke and brain damage from serotonin syndrome at age 41!!
I need help. I started Viibryd a month ago. No side effects. On the fourth week I started getting crazy dizzy spells. At 20mg. I got off immediately because I couldn’t handle it. Doc says I can stop cold so I did. It’s been 7 days and I’m still getting dizzy spells twice a day and I think hyperventilation. When will this stop? I taking klonopin as needed should I take more? How long will it take to all go away?
Re: Rob (# 594)
It’s been a year now since I got off vibryd and I’m still suffering the effects of it. I was on it for about 3 months and my anxiety got so high I felt I might explode. My joints ached so badly..... and my depression returned full force. I couldn’t eat or sleep and lost about 30 lbs. Now I take multiple meds to control the damage vibryd did to me.
I wish they’d take that med off the market.
I think it’s dangerous.
44 yr old female...Oh my god...I thought this was a miracle med...Until I started reading this thread. I read me in most replies. The joint pain is worst! If I stop and relax at the end of a day at work on my feet, it's almost impossible for me to get moving again...Hips and knees and just in last couple days, my knee. I just thought (beating myself up) it was some slight weight gain and hard work at work-now I want to look at the bio. I've also been having reoccurring bad dreams about a specific event in my life that was horribly traumatic. I wake up sobbing. But- I felt that the depression was better. I've been on the drug rep. Sample as im between insurance and it's very expensive. I'm beginning to doubt now if I should rush to the dr and get back on my pill that was moderately working... I also just started seeing a therapist so I'm hoping I get some relief there...But now I'm terrified about the joint pain- why? What could this drug be doing to me? How are we all experiencing this joint pain and nightmares/bad dreams and "Seeing things"?...It takes me a cocktail of melatonin, benadryl and xanax to get to sleep and I haven't had a full night sleep in quite some time....Viibryd patient for 3 months.
Okay. Wow. I can’t believe what I have read... I started taking Viibryd a few months ago. I have had mental health issues for as long as I can remember — have been on countless antidepressants (Prozac, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Lamictal, Lexapro, you name it..) and I am only 19 (female). I thought, as many of us did, Viibryd was this miracle, cure-all antidepressant... things went well. At first. Within the past month or so.. I have just not felt myself. Not felt... normal. One of the things that freaks me out the most is I will get red, but only on one side of my face. Almost like flushing out of embarrassment, but that is not the case. It seems to happen out of nowhere, and more frequently as the days go on. My whole outer part of my right ear (most of my entire ear, actually) will go absolutely BEET red, and will be incredibly hot to the touch. It has spread to my right cheek, but not much farther than that.. why on one side?
Has anyone else experienced this? I also have been having a lot of other ailments plague my body within the past few months.. I did not ever think they would, in any way, be related to each other. I have horrible orthostatic intolerance, which has also gotten worse with time. Especially if I am standing in line somewhere, or in the same spot for a prolonged period of time. My vision just goes black, and I’ll hit the ground if I am not able to stop myself. I also have had weird cramping, aches, and pains all over my body. My thighs, my palms, my back, neck, shoulders... Another thing that frightens me is the sudden “buzz” or electric-like feeling that usually manifests around (what feels like) where my brain stem is attached to my actual brain, at the top of my neck. I don’t know how else to explain that. My anxiety and paranoia has also skyrocketed, and for whatever reason, I get very frustrated with my fiancé easily. Over... nothing. I don’t just mean frustrated, either. I mean angry. I have also been having very weird dreams, and have found that going back to sleep after waking up only puts me back into that same exact dream.
Right now, actually.. I am experiencing extreme paranoia and the feeling that I am not alone in my house, even though I know for a fact that I am. I keep hearing things and looking in directions where there is absolutely nothing. But I can’t shake the feeling. The fatigue I experience as a 19 y/o female is absolutely and positively not normal. Neither are the chest pains I have experienced, or the weird pains/cramps in between each individual rib. Sometimes I feel as if I cannot even breathe like a normal human being should be able to... I take a deep, deep breath, only to be met with (what feels like) almost empty lungs regardless. My heart beat also goes all over the place. What is going on? This isn’t normal or right. I have heard of Sjögren’s Syndrome, and that is the only thing consistent with my symptoms, other than the possibility that Viibyrd caused all of this, which actually is not a far-fetched idea, now. Please help.
Re: Rob (# 594)
By now, you've been off of Viibryd for a couple weeks. How are you doing now? A good rule of thumb - my thumb, anyway, is to never withdraw from a medication cold, if possible. If you titrate up, then titrate down.
It took me almost 2 years to physically feel almost normal, but I also had a bunch of other physical issues to deal with.
Re: Kristina (# 598)
Actually, I think the dizzy spell gave me an anxiety attack that lasted a few weeks. Made my dizzy and hyperventilate. Nothing to do with the meds. Everything calmed down now and Im just taking some Klonopin as needed. The hyperventilation made me dizzy for those weeks. Now that I am not hyperventilating, I'm good!
Symptom/medication history:
Current age: 25. Male. Been on Adderall on/off since I was 12. Mostly on, except for summers. Started Accutane in 2008 and stopped 6 months later. Developed major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder somewhere around 2009-2010. Started medication in 2011. I started taking Remeron/Mirtazapine 15mg to help with sleep in 2011. Began to have severe panic attacks and depressive episodes. Started Cymbalta 60mg which helped with the depression and anxiety. Been on Adderall/SSRI/Mirtazapine ever since. I was on Cymbalta for about three years.
Cymbalta Symptoms:
- helped with the depression/anxiety, but made me aggressive.
- reduced my libido. Strangely enough, the Remeron would often counter it, though only briefly before bed (also made me really tired/hungry. Helped balance the Adderall's appetite suppression).
Switched to 20mg Lexapro in 2014. Was on that for 3 years:
- Had about the same effect on my libido as the Cymbalta.
- constant fatigue: always felt tired if I wasn't on the Adderall.
- no aggression, kinda neat.
- Pleasant sleep/dreams.
Last week, I switched to Viibryd 20mg. I think I'm still going through the transition phase/detox of the Lexapro (I swapped in a single day to the Viibryd).
Viibryd side effects so far:
- libido elimination is basically null. As a matter of fact, I think I'm even more motivated than before.
- strange dreams every night, very vivid and mostly unpleasant. Not nightmares, but there's a constant feeling of dread. I'm also sleeping more heavily than on the Lexapro. These bad dreams could just be a result of the Lexapro detox. Will update more in a few weeks.
