I would agree with Kelly. I think it is very difficult to switch from Lexapro to Viibryd. I have had the worst anxiety and sleep apnea of my life. And I also ended up in the ER being tested for cardiac problems. It would seem that even a slow shift away from Lexapro is capable of producing very strong withdrawal symptoms. I'm sorry not to be able to stick this out because my libido is stronger on Viibryd, but as my husband put it, you can't have intercourse if you're dead! (joke) So back to Lexapro.

You were ok combining adderall and viibryd? My doctor recommended doing that as well (I too suffer from compulsive negative thinking) but I read that mixing those two drugs was not advised. How have you been taking both? I am a bit anxious to start the viibryd until I know of the combination

Can you share what your new medication is? I am pretty sure I need to get off Vii immediately, because of my severe agitation and mood. I feel worse than I have ever felt...ever!!! And if I miss a dose, forget it! I feel like I need to be committed. I have never had this feeling before...nor the feeling that I am literally going crazy...until starting this medication.

I thought I found the pill that would change my life for the better. I have been taking Viibryd 40mg for 6 months now. I feel bad ( cry, mad, lost, scared ) only after 24 hours of not taking it. Not only have I notice the difference in myself when I have not taken the med but, my family, friends and co-workers notice also...I would happily continue to take the medication however, I have gained so much weight it is unbelievable! At least 30 pounds. I have not changed my eating, drinking or exercise habits. It is all in my mid-section. I have always had a pear shape now I am a pear/apple! I have to decide...Do I want to be fat and happy or sad/mad and thin? I am on vacation as I write (had to buy jumbo clothes to wear) and have not had a Viibryd in three days. Needless to say I am miserable and making everyone else miserable. Please advise?

Here's a dose of reality for Dose of Reality; Doctors RELY on nurses and pharmacists to know about the medicines their patients are taking and what side effects and interactions with other drugs may be. I am glad you're offering an alternate opinion, but don't berate a profession in your zeal to express that opinion.

I would never recommend this drug. I have been on medicine for about 6 years and this drug for me was awful. I am coming off this slowly with the care of my doctor and I have had horrendous side effects. I began my detox a week ago today and I have been so dizzy, had heart palpatations , racing heart beats, tremors, aches in my whole body as well as restless leg syndrome and the shakes. I started two months ago and went on a steady increase to 40 mg. I felt awful when I was on it and feel worse coming off it. This drug is a poison to my body.

June 9,2014 AM: After taking Citalapram for several years, my depression worsed in November of 2013 after having LASIK surgery performed on my right eye. Although the surgery was "successful," I was (and still am) having difficulty adjusting to how my sight would change throughout the day. The nurse practioner that prescribes my meds decided "we" should try something different. I went through a potpouri of pills before "we" settled on Viibryd AND Mirtazapine AND Atavan(as needed). During this time, I also had a hospital stay for a week. I also was laid-off from my job on January 2nd. Although my depression is better, anxiety used to be a minor issue for me. It now seems to be a daily battle. The other daily battle I fight is diarrhea. I have read that both these meds can cause diarrhea, and that Mirtazapine can actually create anxiety. I want off these meds! But now the nurse practitioner thinks I'm on something that works and doesn't want to make changes. I miss the life I had a year ago.

June 10, 2014 AM: I saw my therapist and nurse practitioner yesterday after I created this post. I was adamant that I wanted off the Remeron and Viibryd. The nurse practioner agreed to change my meds, and is weaning me off these with a change to Zoloft by the week's end. Although I woke up this morning feeling somewhat agitated, that feeling is subsiding. I will keep you posted as I work through this.

I have been on Vii for a year and my hair has thinned out and I talk in my sleep. I also have weird dreams. Has anyone else had these side effects?

Yes I've been on it for 3 weeks now and I have terrible nightmares and wake up with terrible headaches and I'm also very agitated can't sleep but two hours at a time then wide awake. I want off of viibyrd!!!!

I have the same side effects from missing a dose. I take mine at night and if I forget I'm itchy, my eyes itch, I sneeze. But taking the missed dose sorts this out in a couple of hours.

This is not medical advice, just my experience personally. I had to quit Viibryd cold turkey due to an uncommon but serious side effect. I knew the withdraws were going to be horrific. I remembered how the supplement Creatine helped with withdraws from stopping pain meds years earlier. I bought a bottle of pills and not powder. The powder might work just as well, however, pills are easier for me. I don't remember the mg per pill. I know I took what the bottle said and added one if withdraws were bad. I don't know how Creatine works with withdraws but it seems to take most if not all symptoms down to tolerable. Creatine is a supplement many body builders take before working out. Google it for more information on its uses, strengths and where to buy. For me it was what I needed to get me through the the rough days of withdraws.

I have been on viibryd for about six weeks. I weaned off of cymbalta simoultaneously after being on it for about 4 years. I am off cymbalta for about 2 weeks and am up to 60 mg of viibryd . Have experienced the diarrhea and/or loose stool others talking about. Last night had a terrible nightmare and felt like someone was pushing on my chest and I was trying to call out for help but couldn't. Woke up freaked out. Seemed so real . Happened again tonight with the pressure and felt like I was fighting to wake up. I also take zolpidem but never had problems with nightmares that seem to border on hallucinations. I felt it was helping with the depression but these nightmares are very disturbing. Sweets cravings have kicked in . I struggle with weight but never have liked sweets much . Now I'm thinking it may be the vii?

i have had the same thing; its very scary. In fact, im writing this because
i woke up after a 1.5hr nightmare. Some of the scariest stuff! Ive had this before
on other meds and i think that i get these vivid dreams and forehead twitches
often. Its quite frustrating but I may just have too much serotonin in my body
and that its a reaction as Serotonin Syndrome. It came when i would try to
get off of a med cold turkey DONT DO THAT; ITS A NIGHTMARE and something
that i wish i would not have done; let the doctor help you do it correctly. I had
3 weeks of hell that i could have avoided!

yes. I had no idea and did not connect it to the viibryd until i saw it on the boards here. I was only on a starter pack 10mg for 7 days then on 20 for 7 days. Once i went to the 20mg, i had diarrhea every day, nightmares, restless leg, joint pain, facial tenses that was involuntary because of my nightmares. No sexual side effects which is great, but for me, it wasnt the best med ive tried. I am 5'1'' 120LBS, with OCD. the best ive tried so far is paxil and im trying to get back on it.

I had intended to approach the law firm that is currently in a legal suit for birth defects due to viibryd. i had EEG and i tested negative rheumatoid arthritis but the medication used for psoriatic arthritis is working (it is also used for RA, but in smaller doses). I am currently taking 10 milligrams of prednisone and 15 mg of mobic daily and weekly injections of methotrexate in hopes of being able to remove the prednisone for my regimen. I can say all the tests run by my neurologist came back normal, but there is no conclusive test for psoriatic arthritis. I still believe whatever is happening was caused by viibryd but i ran yesterday for the first time this year, only fifty yards, but still a major break through from my perspective. the methotrexate is the first true advance in recovery that I've had and anyone suffering ongoing joint pain I highly recommend speaking to your doctor about methotrexate. it's highly toxic and needs to be monitored closely but for me and hopefully for others it will work as well.

At age 10, I started having panic attacks to extent of fainting, throwing up and sever bowel activity. By age 16, I felt a hole in my stomach that wouldn't go away. This was before the Prozac evolved drugs. I have been taking 40mg of Viibryd for approximately 2 - 3 years (every since they started the free samples.) Be sure and take it with food in the morning upon rising. It has worked the best for me than any other antidepressant. I took Lexapro, although relieved my depression to the extent that Vybriid does, but made me very manic. After Lexapro samples ran out, I took Cymbalta whose side effects were severe constipation. Vybriid has caused me no side effects such as additional body aches, but I've had those for years way before I started antidepressants. The 1 side affect of Viibryd is that I do feel nature calling shortly after ingesting the Rx, but I consider this a blessing because now I know when I will have bowel activity. I guess I can't say that Viibryd has not completely cured my depression, panic attacks, agoraphobia, germaphobia, paranoia, and many other neurosis, I feel better than I've felt in many years, although I still have the occasional panic attack, but not as acute as when I was younger. Once, my Psychiatrist put me Zoloft or Effexor or some generic antidepressant, and they didn't seem to help at all. On Viibryd I have noticed that if I don't take it in a timely manner, I do feel very emotional as I read in another comment. All of the antidepressants have depleted my libido.

I hope someone still pays attention to this... I have been seeing a CNP who is crap and she has switched me to viibryd. I am bipolar type 2 with MDD and am 29 f.

I have been on the 40 mg for exactly a week today and I have been nauseous for the past week and a half. I am over a week late for my period, I took an at home pregnancy test it came up negative, and I'm going through finals. So needless to say I'm freaking out. Has anyone else had this happen?

I've been scrolling thru the threads and I'm wondering if anyone one else has just been so stressed out after starting after this medication that maybe this could be my issue? Especially after reading that it causes birth defects. I have fibromyalgia and chronic migraines and I also take xanax on a regular basis for anxiety issues.

I am starting tomorrow to ween myself off of it to go back to what she had me on before for the time being just for lack of a better idea but I just have lost faith in this medication. My joint pain has also gotten worse.
