Just wanted to share this - my 84 year old mother was put on viibryd 8 days ago as Cymbalta didn't seem to be effective any longer and she was just sleeping all the time. This morning she tried to hit my father (her husband) with a soft drink bottle and also had knives and scissors in her hand. Not sure yet if it is related to the Viibryd but she has never been violent in the past.

I just started taking Viibyrd and am noticing nausea and low grade headaches and dizziness. Still on 10mgs. My doctor specifically told me not to look online for the side affects... but.. these side effects make it tough to be productive, which is why I looked it up. I am a 44 yr old female.

Why would your dr tell you not to look up side effects? Thats not ok.

I was put on Vii for depression. I had similar side effects; restless leg, constant bathroom runs, trouble sleeping. But one truly scared me. I'm not sure if it is caused by the medicine but it never happened before I took this. I was on the couch and heard a strange noise, a mix between rushing air/water and a buzzing noise. There was bright electrical flashes combined with "brain zaps". I remember asking my husband what was going on and my brain suddenly felt like I was...electrocuted. My teeth slammed together, my body jerked violently (I was only vaguely aware of it) and I went tense for what seemed like a long time. These episodes happened several times always proceeded by the noise and "brain zaps". I have been off this medicine for half a year now but I still continue to have these "brain zaps". Again, this has never happened before taking this medication. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

after I went on viibyrd. My depression & anxiety were much improved. However, I felt like I had restless body syndrome. I ached all over, my lymph nodes were swollen in places I didn't know I had them, and there were days I couldn't get out of bed due to pain.

I have been off it for months and months now and I still get around like an old lady, my leg muscles and my feet are in pain all the time. The pains in my head come and go, some days I can't hardly take the head pain. I am still hoping this is not permanent damage, but I have the feeling it is! Please people don't take this medicine. It did help with my depression when I was on it, but the side effects are not worth it.

I had the same thing happen to me. I stopped taking the medication after I had a horrific nightmare. I had heart palpitations almost everyday when the dose increased to 40mg. I had these "zaps" too along with the buzzing sound and weird sensation in my head. Its been 3 days since I stopped the medication and it is still happening. Awful.

I was on viibryd for a year and a half. Soon after starting the medication (40 mg) I started having aches and pains in my joints but I didn't think anything of it because I had recently had ankle surgery and attributed some of the discomfort from that. As the pain in my joints spread I became more concerned as I have Crohn's disease and there is arthritis that is related to Crohn's disease. So as the pain and inflammation increased I went to see my GI DR. and he felt it was Crohn's Arthritis and started me on Humira. Well this didn't help and the joint pain and inflammation continued to progressively get worse. So I was referred by my primary to a Rheumotologist and was started on heavy doses of Prednisone still with the diagnosis of Crohn's arthritis. This brings me up to 1 year on viibryd. At this point the inflammation was literally in every joint in my body including the bottom and top of my feet and palms of my hands and forearms. My hands and elbows and shoulders and knees and neck and ankles and feet I mean literally everywhere. I was now switched to Cimzia a stronger immunosuppressant and was still taking steroids and using Vicodin for pain and Trazadone to help with sleep. I again continued to get worse with no end in sight. I had to quit my job as I could barely walk and holding things in my hands was excruciating. I then went to see a specialist in Crohns Arthritis as this is still the dx. He had no idea what was going on but he felt it was not the Crohns disease like everyone else did. He ran every test that had already been done and more. He asked me to give him some time to review info and come up with something to help me. Well what he came back with was a true shock to me. He felt my pain for the past 1 and half years was caused by the anti depressant viibryd. He felt I should come off of this with my primary doctors assistance and see how things went from there. I did this and slowly things have gotten better it has been 6 weeks now completely off meds and I feel about 80% better. I have had a couple of relapses with my hands and some on my feet and elbows but I feel so much better. I was able to stop the immunosuppressants and cut way back on my pain meds and prednisone. I know it was the Viibryd that caused this and I am so glad after suffering for so long that the doctor was able to figure this out. I was so hopeless at one point I literally thought about suicide cause the pain was so horrible. I now have hope and know that in time I will be better. If anyone else has experienced this please let me know. I highly suggest that this med not be taken. I want to add that the pain is absolutely excruciating that the swelling is horrible and it literally effects absolutely every avenue of your life. I have literally spent thousands of dollars on medication and doctors and tests! I haven't been able to work and doing things with my family has been limited. I wish there was someway to get the drug company to answer for this!!

Ok, so heres my experience with viibryde.

I've gone on it about a month + 1week now. My doctor gave me more sample pills so I have about 3 more months to go. (Thankfully the cost is not on me)
The first few days with the 10mg was fine. Nothing out of the normal. No side effects whatsoever. About the 2nd week of 10mg to the mid of 20mg, started the headaches. I am usually prone to migraines so it wasnt much of a difference that what I usually got. Except the fact that it lasted for the first half of the day, provided that I took the pills around 8pm an hour after dinner.
By the time I went to the 40mg, the headaches had subsided a little. During the last week of the 40mg, there was no headache, altho I did have tiny brain zaps. It wasnt bad but it was a little obnoxious and helpful to remind me to take my pills then.
Now the fun part.
I ran out of the pills before the doctor gave me my 3 month supply. I went without viibryde for just ONE day. That night the brain zaps were not brain 'ZAPs'. They felt like brain electrocutions for several seconds at a time i thought my eardrums would pop if i wasnt careful. It was both scary and an amazing experience I never had and probably never want again... A couple times my whole body kind of got numb and paralyzed, I literally had to fight myself to move a limb and get movement back, could feel the tips of my hands all prickly with the electricity like feeling (I was laying on the bed trying to sleep) I had brain zaps as a child from time to time, without medication so i figured this was just an extreme form of withdrawl. I slept it off, and had the most vivid dreamish nightmare I ever had. I ended up enjoying that sensation because it was like a virtual reality. Wouldnt mind having that again. The next morning I felt like i was walking on a rocking boat. Weird but not a big deal. Its been a week since then and I still feel like im on a rocking boat. Again, its a tad annoying but not a huge deal so far.
The med itself i think has been helping me thus far. My irritation outbursts are shorter definately. Libido not so much. But my main goal was to get my body functional enough to go back to work, and right now i am. So far im satisfied, and when the time comes I know better how to ween off the meds slowly.

My partner of 36 years, went to a gentle, occasional Italian hardhead, to a psychotic, angry, want to kill the world, mad man.

Have others experienced incredible spikes in a persons anger.

He is off the stuff for about 3 weeks now and has became his "normal" self again.

Started to take Viibryd for panic attacks/MDD. Was on it for about 3-4 weeks before pulling the plug myself and quitting. Number one side effect that made me stop was anger. I was very irritable. I wanted to argue and rage at people. I never did due to some extreme control, but it was bad. I also felt dark thoughts. Made depression worse. Also made anxiety worse. Panic attacks everyday. I needed Xanax so it wouldn't get too bad or I wouldn't feel too crazy. That's the other side effect, I just felt, crazy. Depressed, panicky, and seriously angry. Poor sleep. Only 3-4 hours even with Ambien. Bizarre, dark, dreams. Felt like I had the flu many mornings and days my body would ache so much. Also felt aches in my neck and back, like I slept on it seriously wrong. Constant runny stools, not one normal one. Painful cystic acne started popping up on my face, neck, back. Dry mouth. Vision was blurry at peak of medication. It was like there was a fog at the grocery store. Mood swings. Sometimes during one hour I would feel like contacting a friend just to talk and get through an anxiety/crazy spell. The next hour I'd be generally fine. I'm probably forgetting some. Needless to say this has been HELL. I've been on various SNRI's or SSRI's during periods of my life. Nowhere near this level of side effects or feeling so, angry/panic/crazy.

The half life says about 24 hours so it should be out of your blood/body in about 5 days. I'm about 8 days off it and I still feel bad.

If anyone can share with me when you started to feel "OK" after you quit, I'd appreciate it.

My doctor stressed that Viibryd should be taken with food. I take mine immediately after breakfast. Had slight nausea when first starting on 10 mg, I'm on 20 mg now with no nausea.

Patina, are you still taking Viibryd? If so, I'm interested to see how you're doing with it. I started it about 2 weeks ago and just started on the 20mg, and so far I like this drug, but I'm worried about it losing its effectiveness and/or getting these horrible side effects.

My 84 yar old mother has ben on Viibryd now for one month. She is now taking the 40 mg. dosage once per day and overall, seems much improved over her pre-Viibryd days. She is in a better mood overall and the times when she has become very agitated and angry have both been times when she was then diagnosed with a severe UTI, which causes dementia-like symptoms in elderly women.

Ok so when I started taking this (a little over a month ago), I loved it. Felt great, getting happier and way more energy before my starter pack was done. I was waking up early (5am or before) and ready to start the day. I wasn't complaining about that side effect. But after I got my regular Rx refill the first week of the start of my 2nd month, the energy went away and I got extremely tired and drowsy all the time. Has that happened to anyone else? Oh and I read someone was having "brain zaps"...me too. They are a little scary and annoying. But I just want my energy back. Any advice???

I was on Viibryd for just 3 weeks- 1 week on 10, 1 week on 20, 1 week on 40- vision was screwed up the the three weeks. I came off it- it's 2 weeks later and my eyes are still bad- they have not gone back to normal. The company wont give me infor- I don't know if this is permanent. FDA can't help either
