Viibryd Side Effects (Page 11) (Top voted first)
UpdatedWhat if any side effects are people experiencing on viibryd
This board is amazing. I have had really good luck with 20 mg Viibryd, but after reading the side effects you all have experienced, I now know that ,when I heard fire engines while I was sleeping the other morning, (turned out to be true as they were passing my house), I jumped out of bed, called my Mom and told her not to worry about me and that there was a fire and I was evacuating and loading my cats into carrier because the hills were on fire. I told her I'd call her when I got to safety.
There were fire engines, but it was part of an exaggerated dream and I actually got up and continued to run around the house as if the dream was real. I get it now. Most likely it was because of the Viibryd...never hapened before and I was running around the house like crazy.
I learned that eating a decent amount of food before, during or after you've taken your pills is so important or I would definately feel nauseous.
I do feel light headed occasionally, but had to Google 'brain zaps' because I didn't know what they were. WOW...I feel really bad for you guys who get them. But thanks to you, I'll be aware.
I'm going to stay on the drug because it has helped me. BUT, I'm going to be very aware and follow this board very closely because of all of the bad experiences noted. I do not take any other drugs and since I'm 60, well, joint pain is just part of getting older?
Thank you all for this amazing information.
My fourth post (in a row...LOL). I haven't been able to stop thinking about all of the advice that has been posted on this forum. I've listened to my conscience and decided to wean myself down to 10 mg a day from 20.
I am going to take heed in your warnings and look for a new medication. My symptoms aren't as serious as some, but the stomach aches and bad dreams, in addition to one hallucination starts to make sense now.
Thank you for sharing everything.
My back also went while on this medication
Viibryd and still having back issues even afterwards. I am 46 and I did not have these problems prior, the pain radiates into my legs as well and the sciatic nerve was mentioned as a possibility.
Could it be a coincidence? My instincts tell me otherwise. I really believe (very strongly) that at some point, Viibryd will be to blame for the muscle problems some people experience. Hopefully it will not be a permanent problem. Time will tell.
I didn't know that viibryd was the culprit to my brain zaps, and that is a perfect name for it. I always get them when I'm tired. It gets so bad sometimes that my jaw clenches till it locks. I've been seeing a physical therapist for the zaps and headaches. I will be talking to my Dr. now about this. Thank all of you so much.
I have been on Viibryd for over a year. The joint paint has increased dramatically since the Dr. increased the dosage from 20 to 30mg. I have experienced pain in the lower back, both knees, left elbow and right toes. It never occurred to me that it could be caused from the meds, but all I know is that it is getting worse. I am tapering off this drug and then will see if the pain subsides. I am 64, healthy, a daily walker, golfer, etc.
All this joint pain in the last six months has to be attributed to something.
After so many moody days and the joint pain [that decreased after a month or so] I decided to go back to Lexapro. I did lose 7 lbs on Viibryd but I was never happy. Doc said up the mg from 20 to 40 but the dreams were already bad enough. Good luck to anyone it works for.
Well, it appears that you have just experienced what most call a 'brain zap'. I've never had one, and I'm sorry you did. I do have a problem waking up in the morning or after sleeping for a decent amount of time. I take 20 in the morning. I have experienced one nightmare/hallucination in the past, which I've described in a past post. I'll make it the Cliff Notes version here (although I'm sure you're too young to know what they are-LOL). I was sleeping and heard a fire engine going by my house, but in my drug stupor, thought it was a wildfire in my hills and proceeded to phone my Mom and tell her not to worry and then gathered up my cat carriers to secure my pets for evacuation, when a fire engine was simply passing by my house. Very scary.
I'm down to 10 now and will be stopping taking this med. It's just too weird.
Yes, I also have been this Viibryd and have never experienced sleep poralisis until now and it is awfull. Glad to hear I'm not the only one.
I just started taking the 40 mg portion of the sample pack. I spoke with my doctor and explained my side effects: extreme irritability, anxiousness, inability to sleep (even with ambien), extreme restless leg syndrome, poor memory and general mental fogginess. After explaining the side effects he kind of blew me off and said to keep taking it which was discouraging. I am not going to continue taking this any longer. My mood has not improved and the physical side effects are too much to tolerate.
CVS refusing to sell Viibryd? In which state has this allegedly occurred? I asked the CVS pharmacy here in Dallas today if there were any notifications regarding them not selling the drug. She said absolutely not and that if there had been, it would be a corporate wide mandate and would have shown up on her computer. Doing a Google search reveals NOTHING about any pharmacies refusing to sell Viibryd. I'm all for useful information, but this reeks of being something made up.
I am 60 and have never been on an antidepressant. Have been a mom and professional business woman who over a 40 year period sometimes drank too much. This past 8 months my dog died, my mom died, I moved into a new home and on Easter I quit drinking. After a few weeks I was agitated, still experiencing grief from the loss of my mom, not having my glasses of wine and tons of stress at work and went to my PCP in June. He popped out a starter pack of the Viibryd and told me to follow the instructions. This docs visit lasted all of 5 minutes and I explained to him my sometime off and on alcohol abuse. Course he said there would be no problems. It went well with the 10 mgs, had a few brain zaps and stomach problems but having never taken an AD I just figured this was part of the game. Went to the 20 mgs and began having horrendous ringing in ears, horrible balance problems, confusion and the feeling I was sitting in the corner looking at myself. Called the doc, he said it would take some getting used to. Well the 40 mgs sent me over the realm of reality. I missed two weeks of work as I could not wake up, come out of the fog or balance myself to stand. Called the doc and he said cut back to 20s. Well I stayed on the 20s thru July and around the first of Aug my depression and anxiety got worse but the side effects multiplied. Bruising easily everywhere, extremely irate, balance way off, foggy all the time and ringing in ears enough to deafen me, extreme insomnia. Driving 50 miles to work and never remembering how I got there, coming to a stop sign three blocks from my house and forgetting how to get home and falling also reared their ugly heads. These were just a few of the side effects. Since then I have started cutting the 20s in half and then those in half taking about .5 two times a day with lots of food. I may have drank in the past but this drug presents a whole new meaning to the words dazed and confused. But doc says keep taking them....... I am either going to change pcps or try and see a pdoc. I know I need something for depression and anxiety but this pill is horrible. Going thru alcoholic withdrawal symptoms is no where near as bad as this. Since cutting back I am experiencing more crying and panic attacks but have tried to pray thru it. I am going to continue cutting back until hopefully this is a done deal for me. Oh yes, one of the side effects of cutting back is burning, itching skin, fever spurts and headaches. I am not manic depressant and have always been upbeat but I do not feel this drug is for me. By the way I am 141 days sober and do not want to trade one addiction for another. I think the Viibryd added to the memory loss I had suffered from the alcohol. I will continue to follow this page and hope everyone who is happy with Viibryd does well but it is not meant for me.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IT IS POISON and will only make your body and MIND WORSE! If you take it after this warning..it's on you. Doctors are in with the pharmaceutical companies. Gotta love Western medicine. Why do you think drug reps have jobs and get paid so much?! Get off it now before you get worse!!! And remember doctors are NOT God and it's YOUR body NOT theirs!!!!
thanks lori, but the viibryd worked well for me. I liked it. I also very much liked welbutrin, but it stopped working. Its quitting viibryd that seems to have caused me the mood swings. unfortunately, the meds work in such subtle ways, and so differently for different people, that its not as if somebody can say "you should take THIS antidepressent" or that one. I don't do well taking NO antidepressants though. During such times I sleep 18 hours a day. Finding what works for me personally ... this is different then meds for other organs than the brain.
I can't help but pity my family when I am not myself. I would be a positive and encouraging father at all times. I have been very good to my children, but apparently my wife says I've been negative to her. I am normally doting, but lately I feel otherwise.
All one really needs to do is google the serious side effects of viibryd and there are pages of verified medicals journals listing the dangerous side effects. Anyone taking them can find at least one or two side effects that they can identify with from taking these types of drugs. Some have experienced the rare side effects, and some the mild side effects. "ALL" these types of drugs, including pain medications, have side effects..they effect not just the brain but the kidneys and liver that process the toxins from them.
OMG, I wish I had found this forum before taking the Viibryd. I was coming up on my fifth week of using it when as I was trying to fall asleep one night I felt like my brain was being zapped! For lack of a better word, it felt like I was being electrocuted but without pain. Just a strong zapping that made me jump and cover my ears. It happened for about 30 minutes and scared the life out of me. Then was ok for 2 nights and third night, the shocks returned. 3 days later I woke up sobbing..it was awful. I felt like my brain was loose in my head and I had never missed a dose! Dr office had me quickly wean off within 3 days ( I take wellbutrin too, so it was ok) I felt great my first day weaning. Today is my first day totally off of it, so we will see. Oh and I also had about a month of diarrhea! Didn't have any idea it had to do with Viibryd. One of the worst reactions I have ever had to any medication!
Girrrrrl! I would NOT stop abruptly. I had horrible experience with this medication as well, on it for about 5 weeks. I was getting brain zaps!!! Also felt like my brain was loose in my head, but that was not until week 5. Woke up one day sobbing, so I called my dr off and they told me to stop it kind of rapidly but I was on Wellbutrin too. If you have the sample pack you can wean down. I was on 40 mg, but they told me to take 20 for one day and then 10 for 2 days. I can't tell you how much better I felt IMMEDIATELY! Only felt slightly bad when I did have to take those 4 pills. Good luck and get off that crap!!!!
Why would your dr tell you not to look up side effects? Thats not ok.
after I went on viibyrd. My depression & anxiety were much improved. However, I felt like I had restless body syndrome. I ached all over, my lymph nodes were swollen in places I didn't know I had them, and there were days I couldn't get out of bed due to pain.
