Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?
Thanks!
Just to know there is a postivie note for some people. If you have read through the thread, this has been an amazing drug for me. Sorry some are having a hard time, all drugs are different for everyone. If you read something on here, don't let it effect your mind. Be your own judge of the drug for you. The gaining weight part is partially because of different cravings and you have to be able not to give in. I have gained a couple of pounds...don't weigh but I can tell in my clothes....but I also haven't been walking everyday and on weekends either!! But, the best side effect is being able to drive where I want to..yay!! I do take Wellbutrin, and xanyx also. I also take an assortment of vitamins including krill oil, primrose oil, dandelion, b12 complex with c, lipotropics, and vit d.
I wish all of you good luck in finding what is best for you!!
does anyone know what the situation is with weight gain on Vii? I switched from lexapro for this reason but on this forum I'm hearing people gaining weight on Vii. I'm confused.
er, *go OFF completely
Wow, it's eye-opening hearing all this. I sure hope my pain doesn't still continue afterwards nor when the dosage gets down in my system. I'd hate to go altogether b/c this is the most energy I think I've had in 20 yrs.
And I definitely CAN'T take anything that adds weight [already have and can't get it off--look horrific now :(]. Dr keeps saying there are other meds I could go on but they have weight gain--so I refuse.
Damn med co's--why can't they make something effective in all this time that doesn't also cause debilitating effects? Sure it's all about $$. Jerks.
I'd also forgotten to say that Viibryd is also causing me the diarrhea (sp?). Not all the time, and with no rhyme or reason. Could have it three days in a row--or not for a week; doesn't matter what I eat--or don't--and the meals may not have any overlapping ingredients; very, very random. So now keep a supply of Imodium-type stuff on-hand.
But I'd be willing to deal with that if not for the pain....
Guess we'll have to see what happens in the next couple weeks--I started 20mg today.
dawnzing, glad to heat from you. I cut off some of the tablet. So I am taking 3/4 of 40 mg.
No improvement in my arm.
I also have noticed a change in my eyes.
I want to get off of this med. Too many side effects for me to handle.
I also went through the carpal tunnel like symptoms after I stopped taking Viibryd. Most of my joint pain was during the time I was taking the medicine but oddly enough the arm pain was after I stopped, became worse, then tapered and is finally going away. This drug has been a nightmare for me.
i'm still weaning off it. it's been awful. and i agree with the others about not sleeping. i'll sleep a few hrs and wake up and be wide awake for hours. also 10+ lbs weight gain. since i was on the 20 for a month, i'm trying to be back on 10 for a month, before stepping down again. it's horrible and i wish i never switched from lexapro. my other long list of side effects are listed in my post last month.
Hi Linda,
I did find out from my Dr that it IS a Viibryd side effect and have definitely confirmed such from reading over the posts on here and elsewhere online.
Again, it's good to know I'm (we're) not alone, but it's still troublesome.
What dosage are you on?
Btw, can relate to not being able to pull up/off covers--that happens to me, too. I can't even lift a cup of water some days! Today, just bending it at all is difficult. :(
Thanks for sharing about the brace--I'd considered one, so it's good to know it's not useful.
Am lowering dose to 20mg tomorrow.
hi dawnzig. I am feeling the same pain in my arm. I have been wearing a tennis elbow brace, but it is not helping. I can't even throw the covers off of myself in the morning without severe pain. This showed up out of nowhere and has been with me for over two months.
Been on Viibryd (40 mg after starter pack), in month 4, as an adjunct to Lamictal (300mg) for bipolar & ptsd.
I, too, am having sleep probs where I can be exhausted but just lay awake for hours or in a weird 'half-sleep' where I'm still aware of my surroundings and noises, etc.
As for bad dreams, I've had them for 19 yrs so doubt they're from Viibryd....
The worst thing, however, is the severe joint pain (so glad to see I'm not alone!). It's in my elbows and shoulders (one side worse than the other) and pain radiates down arms--very much like carpal/tennis elbow. Lately it's gotten so bad that even trying to lift my left arm is excruciating--forget picking anything up or even putting on my seat belt in the car.... My skin around the joints is so sore, sometimes just the feel of a shirt is irritating. This is NOT good.
After reading how some have gone back to 20mg, I'm going to consult with my dr and attempt the same.
The good part of the drug was that it does lift my energy level at times (not always). I'm a bit less depressed though the teariness, negativity, irritability and immobilization is also still present (had just come off Effexor XR after 12 yrs so was a basket case again...).
Anyway, I'll be checking in on here to see others' continuing experiences; thanks for sharing them! :)
I hope that I can withdraw from this drug as easily as you did.
Oops - I meant to add that I'll know for sure it was a viibryd side effect if the joint pain goes away. What a shame - it's the only Rx that seemed to help my Major Depression.
I started on the sample pack and worked my way up to the 40 mg dose. A couple weeks after starting the 40 mg I began having joint pain in those bones on the top of the foot like you get from exercise, which I don't do :) Then my knees started hurting so bad I would cry out as I wasn't expecting it, and now the joint pain is in my knees, elbow (like tennis elbow), knuckles, and feet. That's when I finally figured out it was a Viibryd side effect. I tapered off them over about 5 days and have been Viibryd-free for the past two days. My knees and elbow already feel better. At first Viibryd worked great for my Major Depression, but I can't handle this severe joint pain. Supposedly only 2-3% of people in the clinical trials had joint pain - maybe they only tested it for 6 weeks.
So I stopped my Viibryd dose yesterday after 10 days of the starter pack. I feel asleep fine and had the best night of sleep in weeks. Won't be taking it again. Out of the 10 days I took this drug, a total of 6 nights I didn't sleep for 1 minute. Obviously not the right drug for me. I will possibly try something else in hopes of better results. I haven't felt any side effects from stopping but I know I wasn't on the drug very long. Good luck to others.
What's unfortunate about many of these drugs is they effect people so differently, and I don't think that is a good thing. Other everyone has different body chemistry and genetic markers, this drugs shouldn't have such wide ranging side effects, tells me these drug companies are just throwing s*** against the wall to see what sticks. My opinion....
when i was 13 years old i had my first anxiety attack ... through the corse of 3 years i was unable to eat at resturaunts or eat at all... i weighed 95 pounds i am 5'6 by the time i was 20 i couldnt even leave my house it was awful and i became so suicidle from doctor misdiagosing me and my syptoms i felt like i missed so much of my life at the time it was not funny. i couldnt even keep a job or go out of my house to get one.. i was desprate and went to see a new doc and he prescribed me lexapro!!!! it saved my life to say the least. i was able to start getting out of the house and being around people and i felt normal for once in my life. one day i woke up and my anxiety was gone after being medicated for almost 8 years.... im working on my depression w viibryd and i feel optimistic:)
Good luck. I hate it.
Hey Infinise.... I hate to give medication advice but I'm weaning myself off of this drug and my sleeping ability is far far worse....but I'm convinced that on it it was horrific. I'd easily fall asleep...then 2 hours later wake up..and be WIDE AWAKE for hours.....then be at work the next day falling asleep. It really messed me all up on the sleeping part. Additionally my hair is not falling out..it is breaking off at the new growth. IE spiraly and like straw...I have baby hairs growing out that are growing out weak and damaged. That's a bit scary. Good luck to all. If a medication is working...great I'm all for it for those that it works for.
Been on Viibryd for only 10 days. Doctor gave me the 1 month starter pack. I can't sleep at all. I lay awake all night, even with some sleep aids. Took a 10 mg ambien and it helped me get 4 hours but this is ridiculous. I noticed some hair loss as well. This was such a short time to take this med, it's not working for me. I think I need to stop it and try something else. I have never had depression before but I have a ton of stressors in my life (new job, relocating, pregnant wife, away from family - all at once). Doc gave it to me and said it wasn't addictive and I could stop taking it easily. Well, after reading all the comments here that doesn't seem to be the case. Wow, talk about misinformation. Better stop it now. Funny too because my doc was hesitate to give me Xanax because it can be additive yet I wasn't taking it daily and it help ease my mind and sleep. Ambien doesn't work that well for me. This insomnia is brutal. Good luck to others if its working but if I can't sleep now there is no way I'm taking 20 or 40 of this.
I have gone off this med cold turkey which I know is bad but I seemed fine at first. The medicine did help with my depression and bipolar. I stopped taking it because I didn't think I'd need it with my mood stabilizer. Then after a couple weeks I started feeling super depressed and all I wanted to do was lay in bed and do nothing which is not normal for me at all. So I went back on it for 9 days. I was still irritable and not sleeping so I stopped taking it again. I still feel unmotivated so I am not certain what is going on. I am bipolar II so I am definitely not stable right now. I called my pharmacist and he said that anti-depressants can give you insomnia. I am going to try to take something else out there because I haven't had one give me insomnia like this. I realize that I should've weaned off this med with a doctor's care but I have the worst doctor ever and he was not supportive of anything I did. I still feel depressed anyways, so why take it? I did not have the hair loss some have mentioned. I am not having as much muscle and joint pain. Now I'm not sure what may or may not be withdrawal symptoms. I've read about some that said it was a difficult drug to get off of. I hope it's not going to be a nightmare for me.
I have been on vii for a month and the side effects got worse this past week. Face started to go numb and vomiting. Dr. told me to wean off it by taking it every other day. I was only on 5mg. He said to do it for two weeks. But the days I take it I feel horrible compared to the days I am off it. Do you think I could go off it cold turkey since it is such a low dose?
