Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

Thanks for info. I will check with my shrink and see about the release being negatively affected. I did not see any with the effectiveness being adverse by cutting the pills.

My shrink also had a coupon he was given by the drug maker's marketing rep, which was for a free 30 days of 10 mg pills.

Ask your doctor if they have any such coupons to give to you. What the heck, can't beat some free med since this stuff is not cheap.

Also, I think on the Vii website they have a coupon too that might work for people.

I have a neat shrink as he says the med is overpriced and he gave me a 2nd free starter pack.

As for the pharmacy thing, when I bought my first supply of Vii at a major hospital outpatient pharmacy, they did not even know about this drug, never heard of it, and had to order it which took 2 days to get. They said I was the first person to present a script to them for this drug. I am talking about a major hospital in a major city, not some band aid hospital.

Another crazy thing is my pharmacist said the co-pay for me is the same, whether I buy 10 mg or 40 mg. That sounds wrong, and I going to check with other drug stores on the co-pay for buying different mgs dosages.

My co-pay was $58 for 30 days of 40 mg, which I am cutting down to 30 mg as per the shrink.

found out from pharmacist! Doctor's don't even know, the starter kits, or any vii, you can cut pill in half! They are coated and if you break a 10 mg or 20 mg in half, it loses it's release effectiveness and doesn't get absorbed properly in your body! Pharmacist had to tell doc there are no 5 mg doses and pills should not be cut in half, they are candy coated kind of and are time release, so, docs are not doing everything they should with prescribing this med, it's kinda new as it's been said. I too had finger numbness at 40 mg, that's why i ddropped back to 20, didn't like that!

I started in May. My shrink said start with cutting the 10 mg in the starter pack in half, for 5mg. He said do that for 3 days. So, there was nothing in side effects with 5 mg. Then, he said to go to the 10 mg for the rest and then the 20 mg in the starter pack. He said take with food at the beginning too. During that time, zero side effects, however, I noticed that the drug kicked in with benefits and then stopped and then kicked in again after a few days. That was weird.
At another visit in June, the shrink said to go to 30 mg, which I have been on. The only thing that I have noticed that is weird is I have two finger pains on my left hand, index and middle, that are off and on cramping. I am 62. Never had that before in my life. I did not injure anything. I think it could be a joint pain reaction that is mentioned in the liturature as a side effect. But, this is getting improved too.
I guess I am one of the fortunate few that had decent results for improve of my disorder and no real big deal side effects.
It goes to show how each person isso diffierent as we are just a bunch of complicated chemicals and molecules and this is not a perfect science figuring out how to combat Depression and Anxiety disorders, which is a chemistry issue and also social issue combined.

I tried smaller doses and Dr recommended dose of Vibryd and with all the bad side effects I had could not continue. The constant bowel problem, more anxiety, uneasy jittery feeling, feeling hot All the time, ringing of ears I do not believe a med that makes you feel so bad in beginning is Not a good med and I have taken all and each does different things to me at 63 and many illnesses it is not for me. Tried out of desperation,

To continue with this subject, SSRIs have been offered for many purposes, including for chronic pain mgt where they seem to help either with pain reduction or anxiety of the pain, or both. They might be given for insomnia. They might be given for neuro disorders of one type or another.

Interestingly, my wife, an RN, had a struggle with Memopause too where she was HRT. She was not getting relief much even with it. While some time into her bout with memopause, she was diagnosed with poly cystic ovarian disease (PCOD), which statistically affects 5% of all women. Lived her whole life up to then not knowing she was one of the 5%. Upon more research, it was found that for some with PCOD taking HRT was aggravating that condition and hence creating symptoms. She stopped HRT and her menopause troubles were over within days, no more symptoms from menopause.
We both now believe that all women should Google this topic of PCOD and menopause and evaluate if maybe they are in this small group that can be affected in this way.
Gyn/Ob drs do not handle PCOD as general rule and refer off to an endocrinologist for tests and treatments.

Back on topic about Vii, it is still from my own judgment one of the better new SSRIs out now, at least from my own experience with it. It is too bad that for some people they cannot tolerate the reported symptoms and throw in towel out of fear that the symptoms are too much to handle and what if they do not go away.
People that need a SSRI drug are in a tough position when a drug that is generally helpful is not working and that extra stress puts them over the top and give up on it. But, that is the correct thing to do when a good doctor evaluates and feels that is the best thing and something else ought to be tried instead.

Thanks Jenna! I was not putting her down her information was great if your issues are related to menopause. I don't want people scared away with something they have been dealing with for years, Depression and Anxiety. The hospital thing scared me until further reading her post. Thanks Jenna for understanding what I was trying to say!!

I agree with Jenna, the purpose of my requests WERE related to menopause....so the info provided was clear that our symptoms were related to menopause and what helped.

Could not agree more with you Donna !! Good luck...Depression and anxiety is NOT always and ONLY related to menopause !!

Hi everyone, this post was started about going on Vii for Depression and Anxiety, I don't want people confused by Jennas information, from reading her posts it sounds to me that her reasons for being on all these meds are for menapause reasons. I am on day 11 at 20mgs and starting to feel pretty good, just sick for about 3 hours after I take the Vii. Please anyone new to this med keep me posted as to how you are doing with it, for Depression and Anxiety only Thanks!!! Jenna your info is great I just don't want to scare off people that are using the Vii specifically for Depression and Anxiety.

Jenna, THANKS! Wow that was great. What HRT are you on and what dose? I may give it a try, esp. if I get weaned off of vii, and I'm still having menopause issues. Let me know, thanks :O)

I understand the discussion initially involved Viibryd with menopause and HRT but seems to have gone off track. Please continue HRT and related symptoms/effects in the appropriate forums if they are not related to your Vii usage. Thank you!

I am on day 2 of 20, I was on 15 mg Viibryd for 4 days and now ramped up to 20. MOST of my brain zaps have worn off after 10 days off the Cymbalta. My son is complaining I am majorly crabby, I said "duh, I am switching meds!" That should be a given. I also should mention he is fifteen, and likes to push my buttons after I tell him to leave me alone, say no to something, or he promises not to complain about chores but whines when it is time to do them, so yes, I have been snappish with him in THOSE situations. I have been edgier for sure with my daughter and she hasn't warranted the snapping as much, so I am very consciously journaling to keep track of symptoms as I see my counselor in another week to evaluate my depression and anxiety levels.

I am very glad the Cymbalta effects wore off for the most part. That was a great drug while it maintained my depression, but since it wore off and I weaned, the weaning was awful. I still think it was worth it for having felt "well" for the most part, or better than I would have, for so long under stressful situations.

I always have alot on my plate in life. To those of you who don't like the weight gain, have you journaled your weight gain, eating habits, and exercise regime? Many of us reach a plateau and don't realize we need to ramp up the intensity of our workouts. I highly recommend SparkPeople.com, as it is FREE and you get to participate with entering your eating and such as much or as little as you want, but I love that you are accountable to others that cheer you on to keep the weight off or lose it. I am already 50-60lbs overweight and have been for years, so ten pounds doesn't bother me much. I have actually started feeling well enough to exercise, just a long walk, but much more than I was doing before. I also have played Just Dance on Wii with the kids, which breaks a sweat pretty quickly. Yoga is great (modified for me, I'm not limber) for stretching and relaxing. Sometimes, breathing exercises and stretching together can reduce stress and headaches.

Many of us (I know I know, not YOU! LOL) are so quick to blame the new drug and not look at our other lifestyle habits. If the drug is making something worse that ALREADY EXISTED, don't you think that is a sign to instead of blaming the drug, to look at other areas of your life/health that might/do need to be adjusted?

Okay, off my soapbox, but in my opinion, our bodies sometimes are latent about reacting to something that has gone on in the past and we've kept in our mind. If a drug brings about chemical relief in the brain, the body might be responding the only way it knows how, and it can take a month or more to adjust back.

My 20 mg of Viibryd seems to be doing well. I am kind of at a point where I am back to being a bit ambivilant (that is GOOD for me) vs depressed and don't want to do anything. I am riding that fence/horse right inbetween wanting to get up and not wanting to do anything, but feeling a slight push. I am able to function, albiet slowly, but getting more done in my house in preparation for school and upcoming events around our place.

I know I am not at a point where I can safely say I am "good to go", because I am not. I have had no side effects from Viibryd other than looser stools, but keep in mind that I have Irritable Bowl (IBS) and am lactose intolerant and don't take meds for that, so looser is subjective as I don't track my diet closely right now.

I do have a "slight" headache daily, but again have neck issues and need to see the chiro so that could be the problem there. Stretching and activity has helped with that.

The anxiety I was having has mostly receded, and the snappishness/irritability I am willing to deal with as I feel better overall. I think it is a great exercise in mental self control and behavior examination to be made to think before I act impulsively. My whole all around life can only be better for that in the long run LOL.

I've had some very stressful stuff happen this week so I think overall it's been handled with more grace than usual when not on a working anti-depressant as I am still getting other stuff done. That is the big plus for me.

Hope that helps someone.

Morning Kroster ! I weaned off the cymbalta, (was on 30 mgs once a day ) by at first I was trying to take every other day...then I called my Dr. and told him I wanted to go off..He told me to take the capsule and empty halfway and take that dose for a few days, then, empty again to 1/4 dose and take that for a few days and then stop..My fiancee did this for me. He just eyed the amount and got as close as he could...The paxil I really don't remember.. I think I took that every other day for about a week, then every 2 days for 5 days, then every 3 days...and so on..did not have an issue getting off the paxil but the cymbalta was a little tough but not that bad, a few body and brain zaps at worst...I was only on the Viibryd for 10 days, the Dr. had me cut the dose in half to 5 mgs..I ended up in the hospital cuz of the viibryd..that stuff make me feel like I was going crazy... I was in there for 5 days ! Never been in a hospital before for depression....I always thought I was a sane and confident person. While on antidepressants, I felt I was a hypochodriac and just plain going crazy...SO happy to be off them ! This is just my story Kroster, I, too, refused HRT 3 yrs back !!!I was not getting hot flashes then so I figured why bother ! I also was just too darn afraid....I wish I could talk to you ! Whoever reads this, please understand that I do know that antidepressants work for some of you and I think that is great, just trying to point out to Kroster and other woman that menopause CAN give you a lot of depression symptoms, physical and emotional ! I am so angry that none of the other doctors including a neurologist, my regular Dr, my psychiatrist, and even Drs at the ER..( was there twice with severe stomach issues from Viibryd) mentioned that my hormones may be causing a lot of my issues...well, come to find out they were..My sister was correct... I should mention that I also contacted lots of woman (menopause age) friends from High School, etc. only to find out MANY of them take HRT with no side effects.. I never knew !! I feel now I made the right decision.. I cannot express to you how much of a difference it has made...Both Drs I saw, my Ob/gyn and nurse practitioner both said I should have a sense of "well being" and I would know within 2 weeks...It took 4 days to start working ! I again, did not hold out much hope but was pleasantly surprised... I have a wonderful man, 3 children, my family and friends who ALL notice a HUGE difference in me and are so happy that I am the feeling the way I felt most of my life, healthy and happy ! I am very fortunate for all the support I have been given ! Let me know what you decide Kroster...It is worth a shot...get a couple opinions and tell the docs my story ! Busy weekend...and I am loving that I can enjoy it ! Please keep in touch !!
