Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

Hello: It is not unusual to take the SSRI and Remeron which helps to promote sleep.

The xanax is to calm down anxiety, which is sometimes from an over active adrenal gland. That is what I get at times, where the subconscious brain activates the adrenals, so that you get that tense and excited sensation. Benzos help a lot if take correctly and judiciously when needed.
Always talk to people about all of this as it helps immensely to talk out all things possible that bother you or worry you.

This is already starting to help. It is good to know there are other people out there that understand. Ty

I remember the first time I had to take a SSRI in 1998. I was very upset that something like that became necessary in my life. It was as a result of a traumatic incident and I was just way to nervous and unable to sleep enough to engage in my job. I began to take it so that I could work and support my family. I was worried about the side effects or unknown factors.
Now, 14 years later, I don't find it a problem at all. I found that these are necessary meds when the actual need exists. I do believe they are safe to take so long as you try to take them as dr ordered and as light of a dose you can get away with.

Well, for all you new posters.....I am still taking Viibryd with incredible results!! Some people I know have major problems. If you read my past post, mine were just the dreams and sp which I already had problems with. But I have been on it since 7/14/2011 as you see I was the first poster. It took several months to straighten all out, but the outcome has been awesome!!! Good luck to you all!!!

Nice to hear the good results. BTW, what dose do you take for maintenance now. Also, do you take any adjunct psyche med for further help or is this the only one.
Also, what sleep benefit do you get, such as, long sleep time and better quality of sleep? Do you know how long the doctor will keep you on this? Thanks

Hi Joe,

Well, I can't go through it all...I do have posts all through here about my journey with Viibryd.

First of all, I didn't have the stomach issues that others had. The only thing at first was that I felt dizzy and like I was walking on clouds....lol...But I did have major dream problems which scared me a little. I have never been able to take any kind of sleep meds because they cause me to have ridiculous, crazy, and vivid dreams. This reminded me of that!! I could also manipulate my dreams as I woke up and went back to sleep...and still can sometimes...lol...but the dreaming and sleep paralysis has gotten back to normal pretty much. The sp is scarey but I have done that all my life, and this just made it worse but it is much better now and knock on wood I haven't had the problem lately!!! I keep my dog close to me in bed....lol...

I have been on Wellbutrin for years and tried to go off it when I started taking Vii, but my heart started pounding and I felt crazy, so I kept it. It wasn't withdrawals from the Wellbutrin, because I have never had withdrawals from it, (except for after a couple of weeks, I would realize I needed it badly....lol). Guess I just needed the combo. I also take Xanyx....been on it for a couple of years now. Am Hashi/Hypo so that probably contributed to soooo many things in my life til I found out a couple of years ago. Have that under control with meds.

The Viibryd miraculously changed my life. Because of anxiety, I had not been able to drive, but short distances and on back roads. For some reason, after a couple of months it just started getting better and better..course I had to read and realize that I had to not be scared of being scared...lol...Now I can drive and am able to get on the highways and go see my kids and everything!!! Haven't taken more than a two hour trip, but oh my gosh!!! I thought that I would never be able to again!!! When the time comes to go on a longer one...I am up for it!!!

I take 40mg in the morning with at least a 250 calorie meal. I hate eating breakfast1!!...lol...I also can not low carb any more.....seems the Viibryd and low carb don't go together...which sucks, that has always been my diet that I can lose weight on!! But I wouldn't change anything for the fact that I can live again!!!

My doctor would always laugh at me when i would go off Wellbutrin knowing that I needed it...and I don't see why this would be different. Not thrilled to have to take meds, but sometimes that is just what you have to do!!

Good Luck!!!

Hi Is:

Thanks for all of this info. Sometimes people have to make trade offs to give up things for the sake of something better.

That Wellbrutrin is a different chem. formula as you probably know and is not a true SSRI. So, it is frequently an adjunct med with a SSRI.

Any SSRI can produce at the beginning some light headed feelings, vertigo, dreams/mares, and strange body sensations. For most, those are going to subside and be minor.

That driving phobia is a tough done to deal with, and I am glad you are improving. These are often subconscious things that trigger adrenalin and then feelings of body tenseness and excitement, etc. So, people refrain from things when that adrenalin hits them, or the fear of it hitting them.

Some people take a beta blocker to control heart palpitations and some nervousness. For example, some people with stage fright take a beta blocker before something nervous time may come up, or expected stress event. I have taken them off and on as needed if I feel I am going to face a stress event.

Xanax is also given to help with sleep, but it is only for short time frames. It can wear off with tolerance. For sleep, drs will give Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata, or Rzserem.

In my case, I am very pleased with the Viibryd as the best one, 30 mg is working nice and I figure I will on it for a long time as per my dr.

Hope all goes well and you keep getting better. Joe

First things first... I am borderline and have horrible anger issues. Little things make me super angry and scream and punch walls and have "little kid" tantrums... the only good part of it, is I usually only do this when no one else is around. :o) My dr put me on viibryd because nothing else I was taking was helping with my uncontrollable rage. It was AMAZING!! I didn't flip out at all. I had issues with sleeping, which I ignored because I felt so great! I had not flashes, which I sort of liked because I'm usually freezing. Then I started gaining weight... like ALOT of weight! 10 lbs in 6 days, and I watch what I eat and exercise almost daily because I have huge weight issues! After the weight gain I stopped takiing it cold turkey (from 40mg dose). I went back on Wellbutrin and thought I was doing pretty ok. Then BAM, two days in a row I have had rage issues because of my dogs. Little things, like they aren't eating out of the right dish... I have 2 dogs and one has a green bucket and one a yellow bucket and they have to eat out of the right one... so anyway, the buckets go soaring across the yard as I'm screaming away (I can only imagine what my neighbors think) and then I slammed the back door so hard I broke it. Now I have broken dog dishes and a broken door.

Anyway, woke up today I decided to start taking the Vii again. I broke the 40mg in half to start with but I don't want to stop my Wellbutrin because I don't smoke when I'm on it and of course it is suppose to make you not gain weight.

I suppose to get to the point of all this... Has anyone stopped taking it and then started again to have more/less side effects? Has anyone had the weight gain issues and been able to stop gaining weight while staying on Vii?

I can't handle being angry like this but I'm seriously concerned about the weight gain!! Help!!

As for weight gain, in the beginning hunger pangs from the stomach for some people cause them to eat extra. That is suppose to subside. The other issue is that people feel better and thus may binge, or enjoy taboo foods, or excess fatty/oily things.
From I know, it takes real discipline, a conscious effort to stick with the former diet and natural foods--not processed.
As for the rage issues, honestly, that is something meds have limited effect on. The best approach, if it is affordable, is psychologist that specializes with that and maybe group therapy with others plagued with the same condition.
It sounds that you are trying super hard to win this battle but you are not too far away if you stick to your guns
and live healthy with the right foods, exercise, and social stuff that makes you feel better.
The doctor gave you one of the most current up to date SSRI in Viibyrd with its special dual acting formula on how it affects the brain and nervous system. Good luck!

I have taken several antidepresssents over the past few years dealing with anxiety and ocd. Viibryd has helped me out so much better. didnot get much results untill dosage was adjusted to 40 mgs. Best antidepressentout there. my pharmacist said it is the newest latest greatest. give it at lest 3months before giving up. there is hope. still struggle at times but atleast 75percent better.

I've been on 40mg for about 3 months now and am experiencing major weight gain. Depression and anxiety are under control ( except for the OCD over the weight gain) and excessive diarrhea several days a week. Thinking about cutting the dosage in half....not sure. Also take Klonopin 1mg at night. I sure hope the weight gain subsides after being on this drug longer. I've taken Prozac, Cymbalta, Zoloft, Lexapro...almost every one out there. So far, except for the side effects, this drug works for me.

I am getting along well with 30 mg, and my shrink says that they can go up to 80 mg if necessary for extreme cases. But, 40 mg is common. I don't see going to 40 mg given how it is working well for me.
That OCD can be really hard to beat. Sometimes it is psychologist counseling to find self help solutions. I take Klonopin as needed to help with sleep or panic attacks, and .5mg works good for me most of the time. Lately, the Viibyrd working means much less Klonopin.
That prolonged GI trouble seems unusual and maybe has to be independently checked out if it does not subside.
As for weight gain, I hope you can fight that off. If not, I found that a formal weight clinic specialist can intervene and put you on a great diet that will work. Good luck with all.

Hi Shellielynn, did you just stop taking it or did you cut back slowly. I started at 10 mg's, then went to 20 and now have been on 40 mg's for 5 months. I have had constant diarrhea the whole time and am at the point where I am afraid to leave the house because of that. I want to just stop taking it, but again, am afraid of what major side effects might hit me. Any thoughts you might have would be greatly appreciated. I do NOT ever want to take any more anti-depressants. Thanks, JTW

I've been on 40 mg for about 6 months now and for me it has been worth waithing for the side effects to go away. In fact I am actually doing much better on viirbyrd. I still take Klonipin at night to sleep but I feel so much better on this new meds. I also have found that I've lost weight on viirbryd on all the others thru the years have put weight on me so much so I was above 300 lbs now I am under. I like this new med just try and stay on it a little longer the side affects may just go away.

Hi joanie
I did stop taking the viibryd and did not ween. I think it would be better to ween off the med. There are many side effects, like difficulty sleeping, anxiety, and the feeling of being dizzy, like being on a boat and having sea sickness. I did notice that my GI problems went away within a few days. How is your progress coming along?

Hi again and thanks for the response. I went down to 20 and my stomach problems seemed to have diaspearred overnight. I will stay with the weening as you and Joe and probably others have suggested. I know that it would be too much of a shock to my body now to just go cold turkey. Thanks again.
