Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

When I started taking Vii I kept my Wellbutrin. Tried to go off it but had problems after a couple of days. I have never had problems going off Wellbutrin before, so I knew it wasn't withdrawals....think it was just the two that I needed. Really don't know why you would take lex and Well and then go to only Vii....seems you would keep the Well too.

MG...glad it is working out!

Stormy....not everyone has all the side effects. If you have read my post you know mine weren't the gi problems, mine were the sleep and sp problems...but the best problem (side effect) was that I was able to drive again without panic attacks!!! Yay!!! Oh and on another discussion on here there is a sleep paraylis with Vii discussion. Someone gave scientific information on the subject....very interesting...

And thanks Joe....you have given much info on here.....

When I was on lexapro many years ago....I just didn't like it cause I felt lifeless...

Everyone try to have a great day!!! :)

When I was on lexapro a few years ago, it made me hungry like crazy, even though I am not normally hungry in my senior age (63) now. It went away. With Vii, I did not ever feel hungry. However SSRIs tend to lift spirits, where people may eat and drink more for that reason. So, it is a battle to count calories like a hawk and stick hard and fast, especially with this time of year.
On the sex side, lexapro also hampered reaching a climax, but not being aroused or a normal libido, as that part was okay. As you may know, SSRIs are given to young men to combat premature climax. But Vii presented no interference with the libido, arousal, or climax.
Vii is claimed to be superior in these two catagories.
If I had one criticism with Vii, is it has tendered to make me more disinterested in gym workouts which I used to do all the time. Now, I don't feel interested. Ditto for a few other things which now are less seldom I do as before Vii.
Yet, overall, the trade off is a winner for me overall. My problem was PTSD and GAD, with mini panic attacks. Those symptoms are greatly reduced, but not 100% gone, while on 30 mg of Vii. I have been on it for 1/2 year now.
Good luck and it ought to do some good for you over Lexpro. BTW, start with 5mg for the first 3 days, not the 10 mg in the starter pack. That is to cut down on any possible stomach upset.

Hey everyone, I was taking 10mg Lexapro and 150mg Wellbutrin for severe panic disorder and depression. I've had some side-effects, while not earth-shattering, kind of ruin my world...they are the weight gain and sexual side effects...my doctor is weening me off of lexapro and wellbutrin and putting me on viibryd...does anyone know what effects i should expect when going off the two that I'm currently on, as well as if viibryd is good about handling the same issues as the former without those life-altering side-effects?

There are many SSRIs to choose from, at least your dr. has many to offer. Some work better than others for certain people.
No reason to struggle with MDD because in most cases there is a good med to take. I know of people are doing okay even with the old prozac, which is pretty cheap to take too. Good docs eventually work to find the best med for you.

I stopped taking Viibryd, it made feel to spacy and unable to think clearly. It did numb my feelings down a bit, it felt like I was wearing a full body life condom. It made the really bad feelings not so bad and the really good feelings just ok. I prefer to feel human and mildly depressed instead of a feeling like a disconnected robot.

I'm glad u started this. Because, even, my doctor admits to not knowing much about Vii. It made me feel better but the side effects were horrible. So I stuck with it and the side effects have subsided for the most part. My doctor did add abilify which I'm not happy with. So for now i'll stick to just the Vii.

Thanks for all the postings cuz it has made a huge difference reading bout all the good and bad about Vii.

Very excellent points. I agree.

I stopped eating meat in June 2011 for the first time in my life. I will eat fish and dairy, selected kinds, for protein.

I saw the Movie Forks and Knives and it impacted me so much that I gave up burgers, steaks, bacon, pork chops, chicken, turkey, etc, etc.

I know I feel so much better health wise. More veggies and fruits and nuts and good oils, like Olive. It is like a Mediterrean Diet as much as possible.

So, I am high carb, but gobs of fiber. I am slim, age 63 and have great energy and activities.

I know I am way better off with Vii than other drugs I tried. But I am doing so many other good health actions, I know that impacts things good for me too.

MDD can be beat, plus anxiety too.

Thanks for starting this thread.

Also Joe, as you know and I have said over and over. Most people that get on forums are having problems. I started this thread because there wasn't much info anywhere....and wow look what is has come to be...lol

I have asked my doctor several times and no one has had problems from their office....

There are many that this med works for....Yay!!! I love it too!

I hate that so many are having problems, but one will find that with most anything. Even thyroid meds...any kind of med is different for all people.

Just curious....for anyone that likes this med. Have you ever tried low carbing? I tried once and it made me sick with the Vii. I have always low carbed so I would love to try again and am going to start back in a few days. It was early on when I started taking the Vii that I tried to get back on the LC. So I thought I would give it another shot.

I agree with Joe. If you are not feeling bad enough to need a medication you probably will not last long with the side effects. Most of these drugs have side effects. Some last two weeks. Some are for the duration. One's ability to tolerate it depends on one's desire to feel better. Many of us have used all the other drugs and are left with this. Because my side effects were so severe I started back on Prozac, my very first antidepressant that I started with 20 years ago. Ultimately most people will plateau and have to change drugs. So we are back to trial and error. You have to really be seriously needing to feel better to go through this process, otherwise it will not be worth it. Sometimes people find that they are not as bad as they think when they start into the medical system. That's fine too.

The drug has been under development since 2005 with the normal rigid trials. It was FDA approved Jan 2011. I am watching Google for any professional stories about dangers and such. Nothing seen.

Sure, various patients report side effects that causes some to be too sick and worried and they drop out.

I am not noticing any side effects at all.

But, any drug can eventually cause issues.

This SSRI is really not chemistry wise different from other SSRIs, in that it has an additional compound to deal with anxiety. It is compared to Paxil plus Buspar in composition.

So, I would urge everyone to rely on professionals as much as possible on side effects and make a good decision based on facts and not fears.

YOU GUYS MUST BE HARDCORE TO TAKE ALL THOSE MEDS TOGETHER!! I HAVE BEEN ON 10MG VII FOR A MONTH NOW. TWO HORRIBLE WEEKS OF SIDEEFFECTS AND FINALLY STRAIGHTENED OUT AND FELT WONDERFIL...GREAT... ...FOR TWO WEEKS...THEN I STARTED BRUISING EASILY GETTING RED PINPONT SPOTS UNDER MY SKIN....THE BEGIINING SIGNS OF INTERNAL BLEEDING THIS DRUG AIN'T WORTH THE RISK YOU ARE TAKING....THERE IS NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE, NOT BEEN ON THE MARKET LONG ENOUGH TO REALLY KNOW WHAT ITS LONG TERM EFFECT IS...BUT I CAN BET IN THE LONG RUN THIS DRUG WILL BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET OR REWORKED. TOO MANY SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS!!!!!!!!

Don't give up! Your story is similar to so many that had improvements. This Vii is working for my GAD and I am much better since May when I started it.

It is so important to eat the best healthy foods, less sugars and junk stuff. Natural foods, not boxed up and stuff.

Exercise, even if walking with a dog, for whatever can be done is helpful. Socialize with people that can help.

Try some supplementss, like Flaxseed Pills at Costco. Take Vit D. Niacin pills and B12 shots can be good.

Hot baths, jacuzzis, and stuff like that is important.

Listen to music, dance even...

People that fight back with the right things can lick it or greatly feel better!

Good luck.

I feel the same way.....Meds after meds, tapering on and then tapering off.....I feel like it is never ending. I started taking Paxil in the late 90's and after about 7 years it stopped working. It was so great and then back to the feeling miserable and hopeless. I keep trying so many things....This was going to be my next step but I'm scared.....All the side effects I will or could go through, but at the same time I am so sick of having anxiety through the roof.....The xanax, the wellbutrin, all dont seem to be working anymore and I am on the hightest dose of xanax that my Doc with prscribe....I feel like a hopeless cause, and that for the rest of my life I am going to be poppin pills on and off all my life and the saddens me even more, and your right, people with depression & anxiety really have NO IDEA what we go through mentally, emotionally, and physically. Most of them think it is just in our heads and that really we are fine.....I would love for them to have to spend just a few days with my brain and then tell me its all in my head. I HATE that I am this way and that the process of finding something that will help without taking away the libedo, gaining weight, and going through side effects and withdrawls is just such a horrible process. I just want to be happy. I just want to be able to work with out my anxiety going through the roof. I just want to live a normal life.....I'm scared to try this new drug BUT I need to do something, so here I go on yet another roller coaster ride. Wish me luck! :-(

Xanax is a rescue medication. It is not something that you want to do long term. There are many SSRIs that will help you stay calm. Most docs don't want to put you on Benzos because they are habit forming (Xanax, Klonapin, Atavan). So it is important to find the right drugs. The Wellbutrin could be making you more wired too. Perhaps you don't need it as much as an SSRI. Your shrink will love me for giving you info online. Ultimately he or she puts his/her license on the line by writing the script so I could not take issue. You may need to try different things to get the right mix. I am sure you will find your way. It could take some trial and error, but you will get there.

ER visits sound like GAD really gets in your way! I would definitely look for a very skilled psychiatrist and consider talk therapy. Sometimes anxiety suddenly starts because of a big life change...like retirement, personal losses, etc. I am Scandinavian. Depression is a genetic issue, but it has been lifetime. It is really important to stay on top of it with some Xanax that you keep on hand because you don't want your anxiety to get connected to a place (like your house or your car). That is how phobias happen. So don't let panic attacks get out of hand.

Thanks for the tips. When I see my shrink next I will ask about another rx. I had been Paxel years ago. It was ok but the GAD still happened.
I would say my GAD bouts are about 7 on a 10 scale when the bad ones hit. I have been in the ER 3 times because of heart palpitations to rule out an MI.
I do take a Beta Blocker to help but it is minor help.
I intend to seek more help with my GP and shrink and if what more can be offered
My personal life is fine. My overall health is good. I am in shape. I don't even need Viagra hahaha.
So the GAD sucks and bad genes I think.
I will not let it get the best of me!

GAD is no picnic. I am anxious. Have you tried some of the more calming SSRIs like Paxil or Zoloft? They tend to be more calming. Sometimes even a mood stabilizer like abilify or lamictal can help.
Glad you are taking supplements. I would see if some of the natural calming supplements might help you and I would also try meditation...even listening to a sound machine; one that makes the sound of the ocean or chimes or rain. It might help you. Relaxation is like going to the gym. You have to practice and then you can relax a lot easier. Just listening to relaxing music for half an hour a day can change your anxiety level for the better.

I have been Dx with GAD for 12 years, but, I am sure I had it before then and just lived with it. With GAD, I can at times just suddenly go into an adrenaline like attack. It is just like you say, where you feel you just avoided a car accident and the adrenaline surged into the gut.

I have been puzzled why this came into play in my middle age years and then now as a new senior citizen, age 63.

Vii is not really doing much for the GAD. I just suck it up and deal with it and try to stay busy and use breathing and other calming techniques. If it is really bad, I take a .5 mg Klonopin, the minimum dose. That seems to help to take the edge off.

I have come to realize that there is only so much you can do with meds and with therapy. The rest is just fighting back with staying busy, engaging in social activities and recreation, eating right, exercise, and intimacy to release endorphins. I take extra calcium and magnesium. Niacin too. A B-100 and Omega pills. Herbal teas are great. A hot bath at times, jacuzzi stuff like that.
I am not going to take marijuana that is becoming really more popular, especially for the folks in Colorado. I guess if I lived in Colorado, I could walk into a doctor office and get a script. But, that is not my bag to go down that road.

Anyway, GAD is a lousy condition to suffer from and I would rate it just as bad as having moderate depression.

I understand that some people can take viibryd in lower doses when it is combined with an antipsychotic, like Abilify to manage the anger and manic traits. I loved this drug initially. I felt great. Everyone said I looked better every day. But I could not manage my anger. I was picking fights all over. No one could do anything right. I think that people really do much better at 20mg...at least that is the feedback I am hearing from doctors that I ask about it. I really miss how I felt on it. Perhaps you should consider backing off, or adding one of the other drugs they use to manage the side effects which include real mood swings. I am not bipolar but I sure heard myself at the height of it and I was about as hard to like as many of the bipolar disorders I met in my practice. I hope the next new one is tweaked a little more.
