Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?
Thanks!
Hi there. I am now 50yo and am under an extreme amt of stress. I have tried a few antidepressants. I have been on Cymbalta for the longest and it has been ok. However, I decided I might need a change because of just being so tired and still just struggling to feel 'better" So my dr gave me Viibryd. I have taken it for 2 and a half weeks. I am exhausted, extremely depressed, crying uncontrollably, and went to ER with chest pain which I guess is anxiety. NEVER have felt this bad before. It has been so bad that the dr had to give me Ativan just to calm me today. I weaned off Vi very quickly and just got back on Cymbalta (only because my body is used to that one) I actually am relieved to know that I am not just going "crazy" but that the Vi may be the culprit. Praying you get better.
Hi to everyone, its Max 28 again, I am on 5th day Vii dose 10, finaly feel myself better, hadache is gone,do you know guys if a bit wine or beer with dinner it's gonna affect for anything?! Thanks.
Thanks joe, I am going to see my GP today , I'm going to get him to try to refer me to a specialist, I think I really need help, I managed to get to school today not that I am able to pay attention, I think I need some sun too, I live in louisiana and this time of year is very rainy. I made it through last night, but everything makes me want to cry, trying not to embarrass myself. I really appreciate you advice joe , but I just don't have the energy or motivation to try to participate in anything much less school. I just want this all to go away I miss my self ! I want to be me! Why is this so hard, I'm do overwhelmed by everything, people, sounds, I just freak out, i take these meds to help with anxiety and depression, but it's like I can either have good mental health and poor physical or vice versa, it's just not fair .
Very sweet of you to make suggestions. One of my biggest problems is that I live in NE Ohio where it is cold and cloudy 7 months (conservatively) a year. I crave sun and warmth. But I have felt better with other drugs, before they lost their effectiveness, so I'm crossing my fingers on this one.
Thanks for sharing. I have seen women join into some community or civic groups that are all women, where there are social events, lunches, presentations, etc, where interacting in those forums can be helpful. Also, taking a night class in some interesting subject, such at a local JC or adult or community education program. In my community, they have many night programs to learn useful things in life, which offers interactions and often can help depressed people. Another nice one is going on a rural area walk, or hike, to meditate and focus on nature and enjoy and think about the beautiful aspects of nature. The smells, sights, and sounds. I like a rural area, not a city park, if at all possible. Sometimes bringing along reading material, a camera, taking photos of nature, etc, can be at helpful. Just throwing out ideas that have helped some people. Best of luck on feeling better.
I agree Joe. You have no idea how many people think anti-depressants are "happy pills". Unfortunately, I've been in deep depression for about 4 years now, and I can't seem to dig myself out. I'm an Atheist, so church groups are out. I primarily keep occupied making jewelry and quilts to be raffled at the Relay For Life, but that doesn't help with human interaction. I just keep wearing my "Feel Bright Light" every day, try to be positive, "do unto others" when I'm out in the world, and hope this "wave" is almost over.
Generally, it has been experience is that 50% of the battle with depression is the good results with the right kind of SSRI, and then, the other 50% is personal actions that one has to make to solve issues and problems that could be creating the excessive stress that often creates a brain chemical imbalance and hence depression symptoms. Sometimes it has to be very tough life decisions specific to a person's stressors that often could be from years ago or more current or both. Included sometimes are self help programs, such as going to yoga, the gym, dancing lessons, restarting hobbies from the past or taking up new hobbies. Sometimes it can becoming active in church groups or events. Sometimes community or charity work. Everybody is different, but sometimes it is a life shake up to get out of a rut and monotonous routines. All I know is that people can indeed find ways to recover or improve beyond pills. Hope more good things come your way.
I remember your posts. I was quite taken by the complex nature of the various conditions that are so unique, but yet recoverable. I am not a doctor, but I have over 30 years of exposure to the medical world with having interacted with many doctors in many contexts. I interacted with 20 psychiatrists and had to read and study 1000s of psychiatric reports in my line of work. There is no question that you are treatable and can be improved, but it would have to be a multi-disciplinary approach and perhaps an impatient setting to deal with the constellation of issues and symptoms and conditions. Of course if you have a great insurance plan, this is feasible to do. If not, a problem. But if have the right doctor, they ought to figure out an inpatient treatment facility referral to get you introducted for what would be organized for you. In otherwords, you would an assessment and plan figured out that you would evaluate and share if possible with family and love ones so that you can make the right decisions. If you visit Dr Phil.com too you will find materials this topic and treatment facilities too. I want to emphasize, success can be accomplished but it takes a committment and organized approach. I truly hope you can find all of the right assistance and facility that and really get you well. My best regards.
I'm there, too. My third week of Vi, but taking it at night because I read it makes you tired. There ARE no support groups for depression. You have to be an addict, a cancer survivor (I am), a widow … I feel your pain. I DO fake it a lot. For the great love of my husband who's been putting up with this for 23 years. The fake smile and the fake upbeat voice have been PROVEN to improve your mood. Eventually it's real. I call it taking responsibility for my mood. We can only do our best. Keep fighting the good fight.
Hey it's Claire I'm back , been on vi for almast a month, no energy no emotion except sadness, I just cry and cry and the emotional rolercoaster is up and down, I have spent the entire day in bed today, looks like the depression won the battle over these meds, I tried to find a drepression help group or hotline in my area, not much luck, I don't know what else to so but cry and stare at the ceiling or commit my self , I can't feel love or excitement , show interest or have enthusiasm , it's like just going through motions, eating because I have to, sleeping because I have to, don't really have the will or strength to do anything, I could care less about college or my wedding in 2 months. I just want to stop all of my meds and say to hell with it. Ill probably end up in a Loonie bin. I have no one to confide in that doesn't think I'm crazy or a hypochondriac , or even knows I have depression at all. What do I do?
I've actually been taking 2,000 units of Vit D a day. NE Ohio is the pits. Between us we know a lot of stuff about trying to be happy and healthy.
If you live in snow land are indoors a lot, make sure you take high dosages of Vit D. A good buy is at Costco. Take a couple of those 1000 units. Latest studies are showing that Vit does more good things than previousy thought. Keep active as it is the best for depressions--keep the body moving! Good luck
Thanks for the good review. The doctors and scientists are not exactly sure in the final analysis SSRIs do work, which creates controversies of course. What really matters if that if it works---great for us. Keep living a life and do all the right healthful things for the body and mind!
I'm not having any "messed up" dreams. I'm at 20 in the starter pack right now. I'm taking it at night because I don't want it to make me tired. I'm a huge victim of the "winter blues". I have one of those light visors and everything. Gonna go tanning today to see if that will give me a boost. I've tried a LOT of things and I take responsibility for myself. I don't just expect pills to make me happy, but I've gotta be able to get out of bed and out of the house first. Also - no depression support groups, except on-line. And all of this stuff about drugs and stuff would be so helpful.
Hey - I just staerted Viibrydd about 2 months ago. I FREAKING LOVE IT and have NEVER felt better in my life. It works differently on your newrotranzmitters all the others do - and my doc said it (either has in it or creates) Norepinephrine to help the energy level. I have been on tons of antiD's - and just have never EVER felt better. BUT - do NOT take this at night. EVER. it will give you super screwed up dreams. Good luck!
If anyone goes off meds, do so with the assistance of your doctor so you can get lower doses to slowly get off slowly. Even then, I've had my head do this kind of internal throbbing thing that sucks. As for being off meds altogether, I now know that I can't be off meds, probably ever. I don't know if Vii will do any good, but the 6 months I was on Cymbalta I got much worse.
As for Vii, I am only into it now 8 months. But in the past, I took Lexapro for about 1 1/2 years and went off of it as I felt okay enought to go about life and see what would happen. I was off an SSRI then for two years. Felt a relapse and shrink said to try Vii this time, not lexapro, as he felt Vii was better and had a lot of good results so far. Lately, the shrink says it is a good drug and works as one of best in his arsenal. I also was on paxil for about 2-3 years, and then off for 2-3 years before going on Lexapro.
I am age 63. I might stop Vii later this year and see how it goes being off of it. Everyone wants to be off of all drugs if the can. Me too.
Hi guys, thanks in advance, I am 28 just started Viibryd from 10,and have a question, have anyone done to take Viibryd totally and now feel his self well without any med?
Thanks for the update. Keep us updated on what you notice in terms of improvements in your mood and levels of interests and activities, including sleep patterns. I am trying to keep evaluating this drug's oveall effectiveness.
BTW, what are you hoping to see in the way of improvement? I always suggest the people write down when they start a drug the current symptoms and what they hope to see change. It is a reference point to guage success or failure. Normally, it can be good to note symptoms and side effects.
In a prior post, you mentioned having a type of cancer. If you don't mind, can you disclose a bit more on that experience, the kind, the treatment, the medications, how the response is coming along. Often SSRIs are given for people coping with cancer. That disease is a special stressor for many reasons, and SSRIs can be very important as part of the treatment plan while people are under treatment. Best of luck and hope you are progressing well.
I found that Celexa and Wellbutrin lost their effectiveness. Just started Vii, taking it at night so I won't be drowsy during the day, AND one of the side effects that is common is blurred vision. Mine is fine now, but kinda freaked me out.
