Use Of Buprenorphine For Pain After Stopping Narcotics
UpdatedI have been on percocet (10mg) 5xday, Oxycontin (80mg x2 & 40mgx1 a day), Motrin 800mg 4x a day, Soma 350mg 4x a day for YEARS. I WANT OFF - how do I control the chronic pain that started all this? I have read that using buprenorphine in a different way than in Saboxin (which I would want to use for withdrawal) is not legal in the U.S. but used in other countries - is there something I can do/try? I do PT, I have my own TENS mach., relaxation tech, I walk, lost weight, go to counselling... What can I do?
Transdermal Bup now approved by FDA - ask your doc
Thank you for your response - I have heard the same from other sites... unfortunatly,Dr.'s response is to put me on Methadone - I've known other people who say getting off of that is just as bad,if not worse.I'm lowering on my own & I'll figure it out the rest of the way as I go along - but again,Thank you
You can find a doctor that is willing to use this for you on http://www.naabt.org/ You should also read the book the addict. You will have to stop using for a day or so before starting the medication. If you can find a doctor do the profile and have them contact you option on the site, it works. Good luck, if its something you really want you can do it. This prescription will give you the help you need to get away from that habbit. Along with counseling you will be succcessful.
I would just like to clarify that using Suboxone to treat something other than addiction is not illegal.
A doctor can prescribe it to treat chronic pain, when someone has exhausted their other options for treatment or if they deem it necessary.
It is only illegal for a doctor to prescribe it for addiction treatment if they have not undergone the special training required to qualify them to treat someone, with it, for addiction.
Suboxone, however, still contains a narcotic, Buprenorphine, which is coupled with Naloxone, to prevent someone abusing other narcotics, while they are on it.

Thank you for taking the time to respond and offer info and links.I had discovered that in fact the way I phrased it was incorrect and that yes, Drs can prescribe. I am researching a program to help lower meds and still remain pain free - this program differentiates between DEPENDANCY & ADDICTION. Thank you again for your efforts
I am actually looking up what the difference between methadone and suboxone.I am on methadone right now.when they put me on it I was taking almost 200 pain pills a month.giving by my dr. For my back.I found out I was pregnet with my 3rd child.the same dr.that had had me on these pills 4 abouout 5years told me 2just stop taking them!!!r u kidding me?!so I went 2the hospital, knowing I could not just stop taking them.they treated me like I was the biggest drug head there was on the face of this earth.I started going through with draws there and they keep asking me what other drugs was I on?I finally told them u just took my piss and my blood,u tell me what I'm on!!I left there and went2another hospital and they started me on methadone right away!theywhere pissed.the 1st hospital told me that the drug dr.wouldn't touch me because I was pregnet and the ob woulnt touch me cause of the pills!the 2nd hospital said that it was sooo wrong of them 2 let me go through any kind ofwith draw cause of the baby.at 1st I felt like a peise of s***! how can I do this 2 my baby, but long story kinda short I had that baby and he wasperfect and actually I had another baby on it.i have 4 children now and there is no way u can tell which qs were on the meds and which weren't.I have been on this med 4 bout 5 years now and all the pills I was taking this really helps me with my pain more.
My dad has an oxferd house, kinda like a half way house and they do not let methadone people but they let suboxine.it really gets me pissed!so that's what I am doing now, looking up what the differences r,and and so far all I see is that half people like 1 and the other like the other.but how can we say that 1 is bad abd the other isn't.but I guess it is just up 2 u.do some more research.and don't Ever let any1 put down ur choose!!but yes the methadone has helped me with the pain more than the pain pills did. good luck with urcho
yes you can get subutex its suboxone without narcon in it. If you are a male you might also want to consider asking the doctor to test you for low testoserone because long term use of opiates can cause your testoterone levels to go down most doctors that know pain meds. Know that your levels go down so you might want to consider asking for injectable testosterone enanthate 200 mg. or ask for the testosterone patch or testosterone gel or cream it will help your body repair and also you may want to ask for ultram a non narcotic pain med and ativan for anxiety.
I am using spasmoproxibon since for the last 4 years.I want to withdraw this addicted medicine. So, i want to know that taking this qudict medicine can I stop this spasmoproxibon drug. how long I have to use this qudict, kindly guide me as soon as possible.
Subutex, however does not, nor does the injectable form, brand name Burprenex,
I know that this thread was a while ago, but maybe the info can still help someone.
I've been off and on pain meds for approx. 20yrs due to a rupture in my back. I hate taking meds! Last year, my doctor put me on a "new" pain reliever, a /Buprenorphine patch. The drug itself worked like a charm. But I found that the area under the patch would get crazy itchy, then hurt. Not long after, the skin under the patch would get red, inflamed, peel, and weep. In short, if the patch itches at all, don't wait...talk to your doc! You could be allergic to the adhesive :)
Any doctor who doesn't differentiate between dependency and addiction should be run from. THere are many doctors now that are very paranoid about pain medications, and don't think much about the patient. I have had good luck with Buprenex (the injectable) but am told they took it off the market. Subutex is still available. I a at the moment on morphine after an incident a couple of months ago, and I definitely want off. It is poison. I left the pain specialist who put me on it. I'm told now you can't go straight from a heavy narcotic like morphine straight to Bup--you need to go down to a lesser narcotic for a while, then onto the Bup, and that is my plan. If this ever happens again, I will know better than to accept Morphine. It just creates havoc with the body, the tolerance goes up quickly, and it has done nothing but interfere with my life. Stay away from it.
Ok my experience after years of pain and pain medicine which led to addiction then I was put on methadone which was a nightmare coming off of. I've been on suboxone for two years it does help with pain, but I find it making me anxious so I'm also on klonopin. Different strokes for different folks but it sure beats all the mess when your in full blown addiction. Also everyone is going to have some pain, but it's helped alot.
I agree. NO METHADONE! I was on methadone and oxy 30mg NIGHTMARE! I am on subutex and take 1/2 to one a day. I was started on 4. So, with the right Dr. and counseling you can ween off. I have chronic pain and it does help with my pain. So, when I'm totally off I'm afraid what's going to happen with my pain am I going to want pain meds. NO THANK U! So, I guess I'll figure out when Time comes. Be grateful you are not on nasty pills taking hundreds a day. Start off with a good Dr not one who is money hungry and not worried about your well being. I was seeing another Dr who gave me 4 a day and never weened me off. Finally figured out he loved money more than his patients. Now, I have a great Dr and I am happy. Good luck and god bless!
My dr wants to prescribe Buprenorphine for me and I would like to know what it is used for?

Re: frank (# 17)
The opiate drug Belbuca has been used in Subutex and Suboxone, and that had limits on it and it was designed for patients that had to withdraw from opiate Meds. Then it became the "addicts" friend, however little thought was put in the distribution of this med as far as long term relief for CP patients. So, they put together a little pack for reading, and skimmed off the fat from the drug, and now we have BELBUCA. My latest attempt to help get some pain patients off their Meds. I went from 50-60 mg of Oxycodone and 30 mg of Hysingla to 1 dose of Belbuca, and it lasts up to 12 hours but it keeps me busy. I've been feeling good especially.

It used to help treat opioid addiction & can also used to treat chronic pain. The majority of prescriptions are aimed at helping patients off the other opioids like oxycontin\oxycodone & Morphine-sulfate etc. The active ingredient is itself in the narcotic family & can also be habit forming so don't think that its use is without its own issues. It is typically formulated with nalaxone to prevent abuse\misuse
To control your pain use CBD oil or drops. To control your withdrawals, ask your doctor for help for withdrawls
