According to the NIH (DailyMed) it inhibits stomach acid secretion and treats GERD in the short term. Possible risks may include a reduced immune system / infection because stomach acid plays a role in killing bacteria. Side effects reported less than 5% of the time include flatulence, diarrhea, headache, and abdominal pain. If I'm not mistaken the brand Somac exists in Australia (and possibly other countries). ## If you want the answer to the false readings that Zantac gives on drug panels, all that you have to do is call the company that makes Zantac. Boehringer Ingelheim, phone number (203)-798-9988. I just Talked to a man named Ed, who connected me to the company nurse that told me, yes, Zantac causes false readings for amphetamine. She also told me, that she has to report all complaints to the FDA. I have been prescribed Lesuride and Rabium DSR two times a day along with syp.
