What is the difference by using Triamterene or Prednison medicine? ## Hello, Emeric! How are you? There aren't in the same class of medication and aren't used to treat the same things, at all. Triamterene is a potassium sparing diuretic that's used to treat conditions such as congestive heart failure, high blood pressure and edema. However, Prednisone is a steroid class medication that's used to treat allergic reactions, swelling and immunity disorders. It can actually cause fluid retention as a side effect. Are there any other questions I can help with?

I BEGAN SUFFERING FROM MENIERE'S SYNDROME IN THE 1960'S. THE SYMPTONS RANGED FROM MILD TO VERY SEVERE. IT CONTINUED FOR YEARS. A DOCTOR PRESCRIBED TRIAMTERENE HCTZ 37.5. I WOULD SAY I HAVE NOT HAD AN EPISODE FOR 10 YEARS OR MORE. SUBSEQUENT DOCTORS HAD NO COMMENT EXCEPT TO SAY IF IT WORKS KEEP TAKING IT. LET ME HAVE YOUR THOUGHTS OR SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. ## Hi, Bill! I'm not a doctor, but from what I know of medication and medical information, Meniere's can sometimes be caused by a buildup of fluid in the ear, though it isn't known why such a buildup occurs or why it doesn't seem to go away… Thus, the reason this medication may help could be due to the HCTZ in it, Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that's used to remove excess fluid from the body. It may h...

my doctor said to reduce the amount of Triamterene that I am taking, because it is effecting my kidneys I am taking it for my high blood pressure among other pills too. He want's me to take the Triamterene just every other day, but what if I stop all together, cause I don't want to damage my kidneys. Please advice me. ## Hello, Elquapo! How are you? What else are you taking? What type of kidney issue has shown up? If this is the only medication you're on for your blood pressure, then it wouldn't be advisable to completely stop it.

If you haven't suffered from unrelieved Meneire's for a long time this comment won't be very helpful Or interesting to you. I have had REALLY severe Meniere's for about 7 years and it has destroyed many aspects of my life. When I get an acute attack instead of lasting a few hours or days mine can last for months, getting somewhat better so that I can walk from bedroom to kitchen, and then sometimes often so bad I have to try to crawl to the bathroom. For extended periods of time, many months, I have been unable to leave my home. Sometimes it comes on so quickly that I immediately lose consciousness. This has led to falling immediately and being knocked unconscious twice and the worst was breaking my ankle very badly. During these long acute periods I can't read, use ...

I used to take the small green tablet 37.5mg. and when that became unavailable they switched me to the higher dosage, breaking it in half. It seems that I have to take 3/4 of the pill in order to prevent fluid retention. I am now unable to even get the 75mg tabs to break in half. I've been without medication since Sunday... Not good. No one can tell me what is going on with the meds. ## Neecie, I heard the...

i ran out of ziac 25mg and was woundering if i could take triamterene 37.5 in place of it for a couple days till i can see a doctor? ## Ziac contains the active ingredients Bisoprolol and Hydrochlorothiazide, which combines to medications for better blood pressure or cardiac control, so the Triamterene may not work as well by itself. In addition, you may experience rebound effects from not taking the Ziac, which could result in dangerous elevations of your heart rate and blood pressure. Learn more Ziac details here. Learn more Triamterene details here. Have you tried contacting your doctor? In most cases, when you have a condition that requires treatment with these medications, they will phone you in a few days worth, until you can get in for an appointment.

cramps all over my body, often without any muscle activity, in other words, totally at rest and I still get very bad cramps. I am drinking water enough to be peeing about every 2 hours. I also take a calcium/magnesium supliment. ## Hi John, The capsule with imprint Mylan 2537 is a combination of Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg + Triamterene 37.5 mg (it's generic for Dyazide, and is manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals). This medication is used for treating high blood pressure. From what you are reporting it sounds like your BP might be dropping low, causing "hyperactive deep tendon reflexes". You should report this to your doctor ASAP since they might need to adjust your dosing schedule. There is a more comprehensive list of side effects and precautions on GlaxoSmithKline's D...

Is it safe to take Nitrofur-macr 100, while taking triamterene-hctz ? ## Hi Linda, Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between Nitro Macro (nitrofurantoin) and Hydrochlorothiazide + Triamterene. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate. More information about these two medications can be viewed in the links below: I hope this helps!

I have been taking those two pills in the same dose for over two years now,is it safe to be on the water pill for such a long period of time, also are they still making that dose of water pill now.thank you for the info. ## Have you discussed this with your doctor? Only you and your doctor can decide what medication and for how long, is safe for you. There can be risks associated with the long term use of any medication, but the risks are usually far greater if you leave a dangerous medical condition untreated. As to the specific dosage, as far as I know it is still available, but you may want to check with your pharmacy to be certain.

light green, round, on one side it says GG and on bottom of it, it has 165. I have been on these pills for a couple of years and it went from thin rectangle-white/pinkish pills to oval/blue ones. I picked them up at a different pharmacy and it was described as stated above (green)..need to make sure this is the correct pill. If you are looking to purchase any medications online, it is highly recommended that you ensure the web site in question is VIPPS certified (Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites). I heard triamtere was no longer being made. Is this so? I take triamterene 37.5/25. Is this still available? Works well for me. ## It works well for me too. My pharmacist just told me the same thing and I cannot find out why. ## There had been an unexplained shortage of this medication reported to the FDA and it was reported by all current manufacturers. They did estimate that it would start being available, again, by the end of April, but this seems not to have happened. The only thing that I can suggest would be talking to your doctor about using an alternative medication. One that is very similar is Aldactazide, which contains Spironolactone and Hydrochlorothiazide: Are there any other questions or comments? ## I have Bi-polar disorder and Major Depressive Disorder - Spironolactone d...

yellow tab, scored ## This tablet contains 50mgs of Hydrochlorothiazide and 75mgs of Triamterene, a generic for Maxzide. This is a combination medication used to help lower high blood pressure. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and frequent urination. You can read more here: Is there anything else I can help you with? ## I was told that this medicine was to treat severe swelling in my legs and ankles. I have only taken it for a week, and I have all the symptoms listed such as severe nausea, headaches, dizziness, feeling very ill, including severe muscle spams and chest pains. I don't have high blood pressure and really border low pressure to normal. The swelling is gone, but the backlash of the medicine is making me bedridden. What do I do?

I have been taking Triamterene and I ran out, but I can not afford to go to the doctor just yet, my mother takes Lisinopril and she told me that I could take a few till I can get to the doctor but I was afarid that they might not be made up of the same thing and I am afraid to take it because of the risks of any side effects from taking a different medication then the one priscribed to me, but my ankles are swelling pretty bad and see spots. I know its just because I need to take my meds but I am not able to go to the doctor for a while because of my money situation right now. ## Well, they are not made up of the same thing, these are two completely different medications, although both are commonly used to treat high blood pressure. triamterene ## I cannot tell you anything from just the color of the tablet. However, I can tell you that Mylan does not make a tablet that only contains Triamterene. The tablets they make are called Maxzide and contain Triamterene and Hydrochlorothiazide, a combination of 2 diuretics used to treat congestive heart failure, edema and high blood pressure. Their blue pill is shaped similar to a dog biscuit, it is blue and on one side, it says MAXZIDE and on the opposite B M9. Does this match the tablet that you have?
