Topamax And Eye Twitching (Page 4)

Updated

Hi, I have been using Topamax for depression for 12 months and must admit that it has been very sucessful. The one major draw back is that I have developed a very annoying eye twitch. It only affects one eye, but is very noticeable. I was taking 100 mg twice a day, but have decreased it to 100 mg daily. The twitch has decreased somewhat, and I realize that I now have to come off this drug completely to get rid of the twitch entirely.
Has anyone else experienced this problem. I read 1 other reader, but are there more?

I started topiramate for migraine 6 weeks ago. Only able to take 25 mg developed really annoying eye twitches after 2 weeks they are constant. I have not been able to increase my dose which I was supposed to do every 2 weeks because of this and also terrible restless legs at night and indigestion. I fear I will have to come off these drugs which is a shame as my migraines have reduced greatly to about 1 per week. I was hoping that this was a side effect that would wear off but if anyrhing it seems to be getting worse

Hi I was wondering how you were getting on and whether you have persevered with thede drugs and if your eye twitching has improved at all or whether you have had to give up the drug. My twitching is driving ke mad at only 25 mg im holding on in the hope that it would reduce or even stop as my body got more used to the drug but unfortunately that doesnt seem to be happening for me

My eye twitch has stopped. I am still taking the same dose ( 100mg per day) but the twitching has stopped and doesn't bother me at all now. I do not have any side effects at all other than the vivid dreams. The numbness in my fingers has gone away and life is wonderful again.

Great news - do you mind me asking how long did the twitching last?

About a month for me. I know some people say it lasted longer for them and others weren't bothered by it at all. I think if it continues to bother you then you should talk to your doctor about it and see what he or she can do for you. I do hope it stops for you soon though. This medicine has been wonderful for me. I have gone from 3-4 migraines per week to 4 in the last 3 months.

I too was getting 3 to 4 migraines a week and currently down to about one a week which is grest if only I could get rid of the annoying twitches! Ive akready had them about 7 weeks now and wont last much longer if they continue. Its such a shame as this is definitely the best result ive had from any medication which is why im so reluctant to give up on it

I have been on Topamax now for a little over a year. I had the eye twitching for a little bit in the beginning and numbness in my fingers too. It all stopped and my migraines went from 3-4 a week to 6 in the last year total. I am very pleased with this drug and will stay on it as long as it continues to give me the relief I need. I am very happy that my doctor prescribed it.

I have also noticed a twitchy eye only on the left eye. I didn't develop this until I started on topemax. I didn't think it was possible until I read your story. I don't take it on the weekends and the twitch is light but when I take it regularly throughout the week it twitches all day! It is so annoying!

I take 150 mg per day to prevent migraines and have the spasm in the muscle below the left eye. Years ago I took 250 mg per day and had it under the right eye. I weaned off Topamax then and it went away.

I take 150 mg to prevent migraines and have the twitching under the left eye all the time. Over the past 20 years, I weaned off topamax twice for about 9 months once and over a year nice and had migraines galore- up to 20+ per month, so the twitching is fine with me. Years ago it was under my right eye at a higher level.

Hello my daughter has been on topamax since June and has experienced a lot of twitching in the eyes usually one at a time. Gets is usually in the upper lid area, I have been searching for an answer as to why this is happening but haven't gotten a straight out answer yet.. She has other problems to, so I'm not sure how to relate these symptoms yet..

I lost sight for 3-4 seconds yesterday while driving and it scared me to death! I'm on Trokendi Xr 100mg daily fit migraines. My sis in law said her friend went blind for a week until her sight came back when they stopped all her meds. I'm weaning off now. I'm getting Botox Thursday for migraines. I hope it works!!! This drug scares me!!

I come from a genetically obese family, with my mother and sister being over 300 lbs. I used to eat so little I was afraid people would think I was anorexic, but it is what I had to do to not be unhealthy. I also used to have three-day migraines, lying in the bed in the dark unable to function. I have been on Topamax since 2005, and it has been a miracle drug for me. I can eat like a normal woman, and my migraines are controlled enough that most years I don't miss a single day of work due to them.

But two years ago I developed severe muscle twitches under my right eye, that would go on for an hour at a time. I am in a profession where people look right at my face, and these were very visible. then they started to spread around my face - the other eye, below my lips. I became very concerned that I had hemifacial spasm, in which the twitches get worse and then your face kind of freezes like that. I researched it, and found this herbal stuff called SPZM. I also made an appointment with my neurologist, which took a while to get. I also stopped chewing gum, tried to keep my face relaxed, and kicked the person who was causing me horrible stress totally out of my life. The twitches stopped completely (BTW, some people with actual hemifacial spasm report that when they move from a place with a lot of stress to a place where they are calm, their twitches stop). I saw my neurologist, and he did an MRI. Hemifacial spasm is caused by swollen blood vessels at the base of the brain, and I don't have those. He told me to stop taking the SPZM, but by that time I had noticed that the major thing in it is magnesium, and read that lack of magnesium causes muscle twitches. When I stopped taking SPZM, the twitches came back, but I take magnesium taurate (good for the heart) and magnesium threonate (good for mental clarity) and the twitches are much less.

I was still afraid that maybe I had MS or some dread disease, so reading that the twitches are a side effect of the Topamax is actually a HUGE relief. I can stand the little twitches I have now a whole lot better than a three-day-long migraine, and I am afraid that if I ever go off Topamax I will balloon up to 300 lbs like my relatives.

My daughter has the eye twitching, but as you said it's usually one eye at a time. It seems to start with anything but usually when she gets anxiety I think, and stress. Didn't have this until her seizures but started taking Topamax in June of 2016 this year obviously. I hope it goes away we will have to see..

I just started taking Topamax on Oct 10th for migraines. I have the eye twitch over one eye also. I backed down to the lowest possible dose and am still getting them. I'm trying to hang in and hope they go away. The drug seems to be working pretty good even at a low dose.
