I'm taking levothyroxine 75 mcg since about 10 years and now my platelets counts are lower than normal since about 3 years. I just read that this medication can be the cause. I never had symptoms of thyroid problems, the doctors prescribe the medication after having my check up blood test. Beside that I am very healthy, eat well, not overweight and exercise regulary. Do you think there is a way to get out of this medicine and go with something natural. I hate taking pills! ## If you don't have a thyroid problem, why are you taking it? I'm afraid that I'm confused on this. It is never a good idea to take a medication that you don't really need. But no, I've not found such a thing listed among the detailed side effects for this medication. They usually include naus...

I was told by a primary doctor on in May that I no longer need to take Levothyroxine 75 mcg. Having taken it for 5+ years, I was all too happy not to take a pill I thought I really didn't need anymore anyway. That doctor also switched my depression meds from Prozac to Wellbutren to control the sleepiness and weight gain I was experiencing. That way May 2014. Its' now mid September and I am in full remission of major depression. I am writing because my new insurance plan (bkz of a new job) and new primary doctor advised I get back on Levothyroxine 75 mcg and wrote me a Rx today. My question to you is: Should I go from 0 to 75 mcg overnight? The doctor didn't clarify this. After reading the side effects I am a worried about over-dosage and side effects and thought I should gra...

I moved from NC to CA a few months ago. I ran out of Synthroid (200 mcgs daily) and because I had moved out here due to a 28 year old son with a brain tumor my only concern was his well being. After 2 months without the med I could barely stay awake for more than 4 hours at a time. My hair feel out in clumps and I retained huge amounts of fluid. I barely urinated and became confused. Next thing I knew it was two weeks later on I was on a ventilator. I nearly died. I am a nurse...I knew better. Please, please, please....if your MD prescribes Synthroid after obtaining the proper labs take it AS ORDERED. It is cheap but if you can not afford it just tell your MD.,,,,,,sunworship ## Thank you so much. For the Info. I was thinking to stop the medication because since I started it I gain 12 p...

Doctor prescribed me for levothyroxine 25mg and gradually up to 100 mg. When I was taking 100mg my tsh level was 10 ui/ml which was near to normal. But I was experiencing many things like headaches, dizziness and heart beating. Then doctor advised me to take 50mg per day but now the tsh is 32 ui/ml. I do not understand what should I do. I have always a feeling of being depressed, loss of concentration, anxiety etc. ## Those are common side effects of this medication, but it is far more risky to your health your health to leave your thyroid issue remain uncontrolled, especially since it can cause weight probl...

My doctor reduced my levothyroxine from 125 to 100, because my count is still low. Is this normal? ## Hello, EV! How are you? The dosage does need to be changed regularly, to better balance your levels, so yes, it is normal. You may eventually hit a point where you are on one steady dosage for awhile, or it may need to be changed frequently. Side effects to his medication may include nausea, dizziness, weight changes, mood swings and hair loss. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have a simple question. Should the Thyroid tests namely, TSH,T3 and T4 done on an empty stomach? Our GP says that the test should be done at least 12 hours after the last food intake. Whereas the technicians at the diagnostic lab said no such restriction is there and the test could be anytime. Who is correct?

Hello, my TSH is 5.68 and doctor prescribed Levothyroxine 100 mcg. Its been 5 days only since I started medicine. I don't have symptoms as of now as its just 5 days but I'm concerned about the dosage of medicine. Is it too high for TSH of 5.6? My free T4 was normal. Doctor has asked for another test after 6-8 weeks. Should I be concerned about my dosage or wait for another test to talk to my doctor? ## Hi Anky, I'm sure your doctor would've had your best interest in mind when he prescribed you a certain dosage based on his evaluation of your condition. So I wouldn't necessarily be overly concerned about it unless you're experiencing some undesirable side effects as a result of taking that dosage. This is just my opinion, but it sounds like you should just wait it...

Are you still getting the cold and numbness? That sounds like Raynaud's Syndrome and it's difficult to know if it may be due to your thyroid condition, the medication or both.
