The Cvs Pain Police (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

CVS, a company involved in scandalous behavior in the past is now going to dictate policy on pain meds and prescribing. I urge all pain patients to contact your public officials to not allow this company to now play god with what is prescribed to you superseding your doctors orders and for many patients to file litigation against this company and the CDC or any other governmental agencies that allow these criminals to become your doctors and set the rules. This organization cannot be allowed to set the rules when it comes to your healthcare. They have again overstepped their authority and this latest fiasco shows how they have no regard to patients who need these medications for quality of life. Trying to take medication from people who need it is criminal. Just google this company and see how many times they have been involved in behavior, it's insane. This company should not enact any type of policy. I'm ashamed of the media who carry their messages and any politician in cohorts with this company should be booted out of office immediately. Again, I urge you to contact your officials about the pharmacies who attempt to tell you what, how many and when you can take your meds. Total insanity.

" In a new effort to tackle the deadly opioid addiction crisis in the United States, pharmacy giant CVS announced Friday that it will limit opioid prescriptions to seven days for certain conditions. This restriction will apply to patients who are new to pain therapy.

The new pharmacy program will also limit the daily dosage of pain pills based on their strength and will require use of immediate-release formulations before extended-release opioids -- intended for severe, long-term pain treatment -- are dispensed.

The changes will roll out February 1 and cover all commercial, health plan, employer and Medicaid clients. " [1]

Re: Me (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

Uhhh. For one thing and the main thing. Money! To pay a Dr. Weekly instead of monthly when you don't even have money for rent or groceries, it is a huge deal my friend. And as I said in my quote...when your in so much pain every day you can hardly walk or do anything....oh sure it's just inconvenient...Right? That's why I said walk a mile in our shoes. Maybe God can give you four herniated disc and a numb or lame leg for a few years and then see how YOU feel about it then.

They will end up going out of business. Think about how much more money they are actually making from co pays so now someone spending a 40 dollar a month co pay now times it by 4 if they will only do 7 days. I changed pharmacy.

The new CVS Policy is aimed at those being prescribed opiates for the first time or for acute conditions. A number of states already have a law stating those prescribed opiates for the first time or for acute pain can only receive a seven day supply.

Re: Pissedoff (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

Who said I am not in chronic pain? You should do your homework before you call me out. I am the person in the motorized cart at stores with my son or his girlfriend to help me get the smallest item into my carriage.

I was able to deal with my pain from age 20 until I was 26, just on Percocet when needed. When I had my son they reherniated 4 discs (that I had 3 prior surgeries on) in my lumbar spine. I was put in a nursing home when my son was 3 months old for 2 reasons. 1) I couldn't stand up to change his diapers. 2) I was sitting on the couch with him and was unable to get off the couch. Luckily he slept, I was stuck there for 5 hours. Did I mention he was born with a birth defect, a club foot, and had to take him to a hospital every week? I was pushed in a wheelchair with him in my arms...So yeah, I was away from my infant because I couldn't take care of him or myself. My husband was amazing.

I didn't want anything more than Percocet and Flexeril. I missed everything. A car ride was too much for me. I finally started Oxycontin, when the shots stopped working, after 5 surgeries. After a year I was on 80mg x3, Percocet for breakthrough pain. I also tried the patch, Neurontin, you name it, I tried it. So, on Oxy 80's for 10 years, and everything hurt. I had 2 more surgeries.

I am now on Suboxone for pain management. My head is clear and I can do more things. I still can't do the dishes, vacuum, take wet laundry out of the machine, walk without pain to my mailbox. I still use the scooter at stores and my wheelchair if I need to walk more than 75-100ft. I slept on the couch for 6 YEARS, because I can't roll over on the couch. Surgery #4 I rolled over in my sleep, and reherniated 4 levels. We just bought a $3000 king size bed that adjusts the head and feet...like a comfortable hospital bed. I wake up every morning with heartburn, but I can't roll over.

So yes, I am a Chronic Pain Patient!

Re: BL (# 20) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks for the link and I read the media release. While I agree they are probably well intended, I still think CVS is overstepping their authority over that of a Doctor when it announces a limit to seven days.

That’s right they will go out of business. In my state Pennsylvania, they stopped selling cigarettes and they lost customers and to do this to people's prescriptions they will go out of business; they are the only people that shop in there now. These CVS stores are empty now. Wait CVS, you will have no customers after this starts next year in 2018!!!

Hi, I think anyone that is taking a narcotic should just totally boycott CVS. And your loved ones and your friends should boycott CVS as well to support you. I'll never ever go to CVS. Neither will my family members nor my friends. Bye bye CVS. You're not going to control me. Or my family or my friends.
Eventually you will go bankrupt.

HELLO! Terry here - Been a subscriber for a couple years on this Blog.... Well (with ABSOLUTELY NO NOTICE). I just found out that Aetna is now limiting my Oxycodone benefit to 120 per month! And I also get the Oxycontin in the middle of the month and can't wait to find out what they are limiting that to! UNBELIEVABLE! Our (GROUP HEALTH) policy does not EVEN EXPIRE till 12/31/17 and they ARE CHANGING THEIR RULES BEFORE POLICY EVEN EXPIRES! KEEP IN MIND EVEN THE WALMART PHARMACY DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT! Their phones are ringing off the hook! Sure hope someone reads this and gives a reply!

Your words are very harsh. Not everyone has insurance, or the ability to take time off to have surgery. Some can't pay the co-insurance and deductibles. Maybe some can't have surgery because they aren't medically cleared for surgery.

I live in CT, where senators are 100% ANTI-Narcotic. I cannot call them to even say there are a ton of us going through numerous surgeries and those in chronic pain who NEED to take opiates. I try to take the lowest dose possible, but I am also weaning off Gabapentin, as it crept up after 6 months, in a bad way (emotionally).

I just had 2 lumbar fusions with hardware, and now the levels above L-1-2 are "going" and causing my psoas muscle to be in constant spasms. The groin pain is killing me still. Bone spect shows # 2 not healing either.

I am being shipped off to pain management. I have already told them, "no more pills that are addictive since I am already on (3) - NO MORE SHOTS because making me feel worse for 3 weeks of relief is not worth it".

If I have to have another lumbar anything, I am changing neurosurgeons. I am sick of these pansy surgeons who cower down to CVS. Grown some balls already and stick up for the gutting you do to us, to get those artificial discs and cages in right. THANKS for repairing my "cerebrospinal fluid dural tear", after you sliced it "by mistake". NOT digging the FOOT DROP or the 5% rating you gave my floppy foot. Boycott CVS because they clearly do not get it.

I got a script from my doctor for the dreaded "OXYCONTIN" (the Junkies best friend it seems) and the Pharmacy I went to didn't have enough so I got half of the script. next day I got another script from same doctor for the other half. As I ran out of the first script of 1/2 I went to my wonderful CVS store (which is across the street from my subdivision) to get it filled. The helpful pharmacist took the script typed in my name and handed it back to me exclaiming: "You cannot get this filled because it is too soon". I explained what happened and he shook his head and closed the window! I felt like a common criminal! Like I was trying to make a drug heist. I'm telling you I have not set foot in a CVS since and I swear to you (hand to God) I never will!

Re: Sam (# 101) Expand Referenced Message

It is a shame they are ignoring pain patients now. It is political now and even they think we pain patients are all junkies, I would contact again and if no response, next election vote them out. I have a friend that had total hip replacement and they released her with 42 Percocet 5 mg and state law only allows 7 day supply so only could get 21 pills. Went back after 7 days and gave her 21 more and said to wean off that she could not have anymore. She is suffering so bad and can’t take alieve or Celebrex, ibuprofen or any NSAID because on Coumadin to prevent blood clots. It is terrible that they are denying pain meds to people that have had major surgeries now! It is really bad, so unfair and unhumaine, This is all because of the years they allowed crooked pain clinic doctors to dispense to anybody unchecked, legitimate pain patients are paying the cost for it.

Votes, as in checking off Was this helpful.

There are a lot of opinions and articles going around, and I figured I would go to my friend at the Coorporation and ask her exactly what is going on.

Just trying to help.

Thanks for this great post.
I admire your passion to pursue and not stop. I am with you 100% and myself and creating 2 petitions at present, to stop this Oligarchical sabateurs of Human rights. I just read up on their Feb.1 roll out of their 'regulated Opoid caps' / qd limits, and it not only stinks, but it was also enough to get me up off my heating pad and send CVC a messge, telling them their war and socialistic regulations don't apply to responsible prescribers, and they have taken one more step up in inflicting human cruelty, and told them "they may as well nail us to a cross" I'm glad they're not my Rx provider anymore.

You are obviously IGNORANT of the Multi-Border Highway opened to the Sinaloa and Zeta Mexican Cartels- by corrupt DEA/FBI operatives, who get a mansion on a private Caribbean Island when they retire, as well as cash incentives. I know, I was in Law Enforcement, wore a bulletproof vest in public, and slept with a Sig Sauer .40, under my pillow for 20 years. That....Rikki....is the REAL problem in this Nation, so please, STOP sifting gnats and swallowing Camels.

SO ridiculous. Looks like after "once again" arguing with CVS about fill dates, they're gonna fill it for me tomorrow...day 29. Like I should thank them!?? I've told several off them that pain is different from day to day & it's IN my records that my doctor wrote that I'm able to take an extra one here & there & a couple off months ago, the Doctors office assistant had to tell them that & pharmacist filled it then but said next time it has to say it ON the Rx. If there are ANY pharmacies that are not so strict we'll switch...but I have a feeling they're all once again AGAINST the pain patient.

Re: Rikki (# 55) Expand Referenced Message

I got involved with this thread because I agree with most, that CVS is out of line. I do have medical insurance, I don't take opiates. Rikki, I know you mean well, but CVS is making policies that reflect socialism. The USA is a Republic with a free market. That means we can complain to CVS and take our business elsewhere.

Exactly there are no more OD's then there were before. Those ODs have been happening since man found the poppy plant. Now w/ cell phone pictures, tweeting etc.All the celebrates getting caught red handed by police body cams. It's no worse then it was 30 years ago. Its just a huge $ making event. Big Pharma loves it. Get on the pills, then its time to get off the pills,You need different ones.

Re: BL (# 75) Expand Referenced Message

They have a monitoring system in EVERY STATE NOW!!! THAT IS NOT NEW!!! So if you have a script and it's your time to fill and you've been going there for awhile and the script is the same for a whole year (same insurance) why would they have a problem filling it? THEY JUST WANT TO PLAY GOD... HELLO!!!! So un-right, so unfair & SO WRONG!
