Taking Hydrocodone For Depression (Page 6)

I am wondering if anybody else out there has taken Hydrocodone and noticed that symptoms of depression are alleviated? I find that many of today's anti-anxiety and antidepressant drugs come with unpleasant side effects, whereas while taking Hydrocodone they aren't there. The caveat to all of this is that yes, I know that Hydrocodone and opiates in general can be addictive. So long term use would result in withdrawal symptoms. I'm just wondering who else might agree with me on this?
Well Lee, an epidural involves "a drug injected into the epidural space of the spinal cord" so there are some serious risks. And the drugs they typically use are very powerful opioids and/or corticosteroids. (Of course we know bad things only happen to bad people, right? So no worries.)
Brian, I am with you 100%. For one thing, it makes me wonder if these people are Dr. shopping to get these many hydrocodone pills. Since I have been through, I am highly against it now. I agree with you 100% on what you said. Thank you for posting!
It does not control depression, I know there are clinical trials going on with this, but it is because it "COVERS" it up. It gives you loads of energy, a high and makes you happy, all day! I am a depressed person, and I would take a pill in the morning of hydracodone, then I would clean house, mow the lawn, clean the pool, give the kids a bath, do the laundry and cook dinner and still have energy and be happy. That is what the pill would do for me. Then I would get up the next morning and do the same thing. After taking them for a year, the high, happiness and energy went away. So depressing! Then I had to deal with the addiction! So, if you want to go through that, go ahead, but I am telling you the truth, it does not last!!!!!
Using opiod meds like this is preposterous at best!
Absutely they do control depression and PTSD. There is more and more research ckecking out to support this. I use 1 a day and it helps with the above
Yes, when you first take a hydrocodone pill, it makes you happy and gives you a "HIGH", but after taking that long term that high goes away. Then you have to deal with the problem that you are addicted to them. I understand that it is wonderful to be happy and high and you can get lots done. I use to do the same thing. But, it is just not worth it, DON'T use them to make you HAPPY!
Wow BRIAN! excellent post. . Your info is spot on! It's so very rare to see such as informative post.
I AGREE in my opinion this Dr. is negligent besides being greedy by not putting the welfare of his patient first. Because what is the patients's prognosis...drug addiction.
It seems that you have to find a pain management specialist if you have chronic pain these days. Regular primary care docs will not help because they do not want to risk their licenses, which is understandable.
Anyone in chronic pain which is untreated might be depressed. I encourage anyone with untreated chronic pain to seek a pain management specialist. I have had 3 epidurals this year, performed by an anestheologist. They perform these often on women in labor and know what they are doing. Don't be afraid, just go for it.
What do you have to lose?
Agreed...whatever gets you through the night, right?
I just want everyone who read my reply to the patient whose Doctor wanted to treat the patient's depression by prescribing Hydrocodone. I admit, I did include an opinion based statement, which illuminated the absurdity of a Doctor prescribing Hydrocodone, a highly addictive form of synthetic codeine, to a patient suffering from Depression! Not to even mention that this quack was not a Psychiatrist! From what I gathered, he was the patient's Primary Care Doctor. Then, there was not any background information on the type of Doctor that he or she was. As far as I am concerned it doesn't even matter! What this Practitioner of Quakery was proposing was criminally negligent, at the least, and that is giving the man or woman the benefit of the doubt. I believe there is a very good chance that this “Doctor's" true motive was greed. It is well known that getting your patients “hooked" on Narcotic Pain-Killers is a good way to bring in easy and very steady money.
Being in UNCONTROLLED PAIN for any length of time would make anyone depressed. Opioids do not control depression. Getting relief from your pain could help you not be depressed. Cymbalta is an antidepressant and pain reliever. I never felt enough relief from the cymbals alone. I guess it helps more with depression and might provide a little pain relief.
You describe the agony that my son experienced in his opioid addiction. For those of you judging there is no difference regardless of how you spin it. This I believe, the brain can't make the distinction between physical pain or emotional pain. I believe that depression is the precursor to drug addiction in this country and opiates are not the cure!
Hello, and good for you! ! I have been in pain management for years and has been A GOD SEND! !! THERE ARE SOOOOOOO MANY THINGS THAT THEY CAN DO TO HELP! So very glad that you have found one that actually cares about you and your condition!
I take opioids between epidurals. Since I am only allowed 3 epidurals per year I must rely on opioids when the epidurals wear off. I have never had any withdrawal symptoms. Maybe my case is rare, I don't know. The epidurals last from a few days to a few weeks. They give me a much needed break from the opioids. I must admit that I was scared to death to try pain management. I am so glad I did. My neurologist referred me to an excellent pain management doctor in Houston, Texas.
I am one who definitely, 100% agrees with you. I have been depressed off and on for
45 years. Yes, you read it correctly. During those years, yes, I've been in remission, but not for long.
I've taken Hydrocodone for my back pain, spinal stenosis, herniated
disks and Hydrocodone works. If it would help depression, I'd take it in a heartbeat.
Don't get addicted to Opioids, or Opiates for any reason! You have No Idea what you could be getting yourself into. I have no doubt hydrocodone would cure your Depression, for about 4 to 6 hours at a time, then you would need to take more, and as your tolerance builds -within a month you could easily be up to 3 or 4 times the amount you started on. It just gets worse from there. Opiates are the true Narcotics. Opiates are derived from the Opium Poppy of which there are numerous strains- the weakest strain being the South American Poppy, to the Most Powerful -The Burmese White Poppy. There is supposedly the Tasmanian Purple, which is the most powerful, but it is not grown in enough abundance to matter. The China White, slang for the Deso-Morphine (Heroin) produced by the Burmese Poppy, when in it's pure state is extremely dangerous to handle. A match-head of this type of Deso-Morphine, in the blood-stream will kill a man. The way that China White is taken is transdermal. A small amount on a finger tip is rubbed into an area of washed skin, usually on the under-side of the wrist. Even using this type of Deso-Morphine, which is commonly known by the brand name the German Pharmaceutical Company - Bayer Pharmaceuticals gave to it's invention of refining Morphine by boiling it in Sulfuric Acid then Charcoal Filtering it creating a much refined type of Morphine which it's chemical name is Deso-Morphine. Bayer named their refined Morphine Product Heroin. In German, Heroin is a feeling. The word does not translate well in English - In German Heroin is a feeling of being "on top of the world" - one feels simply great to the point where words cannot express. The closest word in the English language would be ecstasy, which happens to be the name for the drug MDMA, which was legal for a short time in the U.S. The other Opiates are, (besides: morphine-heroin), codeine and Opium. The Opioid family of drugs is far wider. Opiods are chemically made versions of Opiates, in many different forms & types, of varying degrees of strength. Opiods are much harder to de-tox from than Opiates for one very simple reason. Opiates are organic, where Opioids are chemicals that are alien to the human system & thus much harder to de-tox from. Since both types of drugs effect the brain in the same way, basically. I would think that Morphine would be a better choice than hydrocodone. You see the folly of this treatment plan ? The thing that really bothers me about it is the extreme depression that occurs if withdrawal of the Opioid occurs. Opiate/Opioid Withdrawal is literally - Hell on Earth ! Not only is your body, all the way down to your very cells, in a state of absolute agony similar to Malaria, combined with muscles spasms and insomnia, but with a deep and dark depression like you have never known you will experience together with the physical agony. This supposed Doctor who is suggesting this to you should be stripped of his medical licence and imprisoned! Please do heed this warning- it is very likely the most important advice given to you in your entire life time.
Sincerely, most so - Brian from St. Petersburg Florida
Wow. Try to tell any doctor that lol. Ur headed for loads of trouble using opiates for depression. Just wait till u stop taking the hydrocodone, then u will know what real depression is. Please do ur research
YES! Unqualifiedly. Hydrocodone is an instant anti-depressant. I'd take it all my life if I could.
Dear Spyz, I for one would like to shake your hand I agree with you everyone is different and those of us that need a little help for hydras or Oxys probably would have never started on this type of medicine unless our body's needed it in the first place. And I for one have a much better quality of life because of them so I'm glad I read your post all my fest wishes to you.
