Taking Hydrocodone For Depression (Page 4)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I am wondering if anybody else out there has taken Hydrocodone and noticed that symptoms of depression are alleviated? I find that many of today's anti-anxiety and antidepressant drugs come with unpleasant side effects, whereas while taking Hydrocodone they aren't there. The caveat to all of this is that yes, I know that Hydrocodone and opiates in general can be addictive. So long term use would result in withdrawal symptoms. I'm just wondering who else might agree with me on this?

Its kinda common knowledge that many (not all) peeps find such benefits with low dose opioids- more so if you're not used to taking them, and if you're among those that find them to be a stimulant, rather than any narcotic effect...

I'm a fitness coach and have found that, even with severe fibromyalgia and auto immune diseases, there is physical therapy that can help you. Are you trying those methods as well? On all those meds it seems it would be difficult to have a good quality of life. I hope things get better for you.

"Is it ok to have a few drinks and take hydrocodone 5/325? I drank, but my back is killing me and my neck is stiff as hell!!" ~Meesh

Are you asking a real serious question here?? Do me a favor, take out your prescription bottle for hydrocodone and read the warning label and/or directions written by your Doc.
My meds from pain management say in caps DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WHILE TAKING THIS MEDICINE. As well as put in the directions.
Did you ask your Pharmacist when you picked up your medicine? They should've gone through all of that during pick up.

Well, good luck with that! Think you need to focus your efforts on the DEA for help. The laws & rules just seem to be getting stronger. I suffer from 3 different auto-immune diseases and quality for being disabled starting with getting it on depression & anxiety because at that time they weren't acknowledged requirements. Fibromyalgia, RA, inflammatory arthritis and DDD. So, we went the depression & anxiety way. Now, I was on different depression meds that caused more inflammation, and it was a side effect -who knows off the meds caused it but I got off it and the only thing I can take Is a Benzodiazepine, Diazepam which is treating-- both depression & Anxiety. As far as chronic pain, pain management has a narcotics agreement with you & you do random drug panels. No drinking!! And you fill your meds at 1 pharmacy & don't think they don't know if you go somewhere else or if someone else gives you meds--- they know everything you are on. If you try and hide it - you get nothing. I tell them everything- I want my pain meds rotated (meaning every couple months - change it). No dependency on dosage tolerance. So we go Percocet, Dilaudid, Morphine ex.. no more than 10mg dosage 4 times/day. I have insomnia been on sleep meds--- was on Ambien CR. Had zero problems until I started sleepwalking. Which was a good thing- found out I had OSA, needed a CPAP got off Ambien CR and got Belsomra use now as needed. And now, turns. Out my Dr is leaving my plan but going to try for a continuation of care. Was told if that happens and want meds--- no Diazepam or Belsomra whaaaaaat!?!?! The Pharmacist was just as confused. My dosage is low enough. If there was a problem a red flag would have gone off. I am taking these legitimately & since 2001. It could be that ppl that take them for such wrong reasons are ruining it for the ppl that need it.

I, too have found hydrocodone makes me feel NORMAL where as any other antidepressant does nothing to diminish my symptoms.
Has anyone found a way to mimic the effects of hydrocodone since doctors are stingy with their prescriptions?
Also, I am going to appeal to some pharmaceutical companies and ask if they will do research and come up with a depression- grade version so we can finally have relief and not feel like criminals in order to have LIFE again.

Changes in insurance will not affect these drugs but congress is making changes to help curb the opiate epidemic that's infecting America today.

I took a couple of pain pills and asked my doctor for a prescription. He would not give me one. He could have cared less about me. He says he doesn't want to get in trouble. I am almost 80 yrs old and have been depressed most of my life. Plus I have the usual pains of old age. I think if I could try pain medication and it would help me, then I could stop taking all the other drugs that don't work anyway. Thanks for listening.

I was so looking forward to memorial day weekend, until, I was unable to fill my prescription for hydrocodone yesterday as it was "to early", I for one can tell you of my experience of adequate pain control But, it alleviates my bipolar depression like nothing else. I take SSRI's with so so results. I woke up today without my morning 10 mg/650 in total misery. Back ache, and so incredibly depressed. I will attest to anyone who says differently, but, hydrocodone gets me going everyday. My life is so much better when I have it, today I can barely move. I have to wait till June 1st to get more. I wish I knew someone who had a few to get me through until then. My depression is setting in and my motivation is non existant. It's going to be a long 4 days. I wish I could just sleep until I can get a refill. My depression and anxiety with hydrocodone makes my life tolerable and productive. I hate this feeling of cold turkey

I tried Saphris years ago, got samples from my psych. doc, I took one pill and within half an hour, ended up paralyzed on the entire left side of my body! I was so scared that I had a friend stay with me for an evening because I was afraid the "side effect" of the paralysis, (listed as rare in the warnings), woulf not subside. Told my friend to call 911 if I lost consciousness. That stuff is bad, I reported to FDA, I have never had serious side effects to any antidepressants, so that one scared the hell out of me.

I found some alleged lorazepam and they are a teeny round pills that are scored on one side. They are white and come in packs of 10. The pack says (LOZEP-2). Do you know if they are real?

Hydrocodone 10-325 is good for me also for depression, but to avoid the addiction of it I take only half at a time.Half in the morning and half at night.Try not to take to many in a days time (3).And if you do take 2-3 a day then this is where the addiction starts. So, once again take less as you can and not to much of a dose at a time with plenty of liquid.

Specialists should figure that our pain causes high blood pressure. And losing one's ability to move around causes atrophy / depression. It's a goverment purge killing anyone that needs long term care.

Have not heard anyone speak about Tramadol use for depression. It has serotonin in its pharmacologic make up and has been a tremendous relief for depression suffers. The problem is that most doctors won't prescribe for depression since it is considered a synthetic opiate in many states and is not prescribed by physch. doctors as an anti-depressant therapy. You have to find a doctor that is willing to think out side the box and understand that there are a lot of patients in pain out there suffering with drug resistant major depressive disorders. You can read depression blogs were many many people are finding depression relief and life changing results from taking Tramadol (Ultram). Many suffers found out the benefits when prescribed Tramadol for other pain related issues. I am a major depressive, drug resistant person and have been using Tramadol for a year with good results. I am also blessed to have a doctor that thinks out of the box and is overly caring and listens to his patients issues with great care and stays on the cutting edge of medications and the careful use of same. But like ALL pain meds you can have withdrawal problems, but I have had horrible withdrawal problems with "anti-depressants" and other commonly prescribed meds for various problems. As with all these meds, you have to have common sense and intellectual honesty with why we are taking what we take.

Same here. I am 10 times more active and happier. Started to practice my piano again and planted a garden. Started working out again. When I am not on it I don't want to get out of bed, want to smoke and drink all the time.

I was on hydrocodone for years. I became not a junkie but i had to have them on a daily basis. I have tried countless antidepressents with no results on any of them. I will agree i felt so much better on them. When i no longer could could get a script, they put me on suboxone and let me tell you that drug is the devil. I thought hydrocodone withdrawls were bad, but they were nothing compaired to suboxone withdrawls. It took me going into a medical coma to get off suboxone, or i would still be on them. Im currently talking to my
shrink about putting me back on hydrocodones for bipolar, borderline personality disorder, disasostive identity disorder, commonly refered as did, and ptsd. I would recommend talking to a psychiatrist about it, most seem more willing to dissuss it without looking at you like a junkie, unlike a M.D would. Hope this helps out and god be with you, cause this is no easy task, but when it comes to your sanity never give up the fight.
