Switched From Oxycodone 10mg Pink K56 Pills To Norco (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

Does norco 5/325 have the same ingredients as the little pink pill k56 which is oxycodone 10mg? My doctor switched me due to the strength. The k56 pills are stronger he said and i needed a weaker pill to be able to work. So he prescribed me the norco. What i'm saying here is that are they the same, but different doses?

I read this entire thread, I agree with everything you've said Dr. Joey.. Also, people claim to "know" everything about medications because they have.. at one point or another..abused them.
Some days I take more than I should, I'm prescribed 3 ten mg oxycodones a day for a month. Some mornings I wake up and I physically can't move ..also i cant move fast enough to get out of bed to use the bathroom. I have severe nerve damage in my lower back down into my right leg and foot. I had surgery "micro diskectomy" (spelled wrong I'm sure lol) early this year and I'm left with such bad nerve damage and even more pain than before. My surgeon said I had stenosis wrapped in never ending spirals around my nerves and bone fragments splattered all over the place.. A surgery that was supposed to take 1.5hrs ended up taking close to 4 hrs because of all the damage I had. Now my left side literally is killing me daily, my hips feel like they are exploding constantly and I still can't let out a good full cough, and God forbid I gag while brushing my teeth, my nerves all compress and I practically fall down. Rewind to before surgery...my regular doctor gave me vicodin and it didnt even touch the pain, he then gave me oxycodone 5mg ..helped a little.. then after surgery, the surgeon prescribed me .5mg percocet /aspirin. Now my regular doctor has been giving me the 10mg oxycodones, he knows how bad I am. So I am grateful for that. Vicodin does nothing for me at all so I'm glad he listened to me on that. Anyways, after surgery..I felt great for a week and a half ..for the first time since I was 23! Now I feel like my body is too old for my 35 years. I feel awful, it's terribly depressing. I'm still young, I weigh around 115, I'm otherwise healthy..I just don't know how I'm supposed to "ask" for either more 10mg oxys a month, or see about him upping the dosage to 15mg. I dont know the "drug dosage laws" in Pennsylvania so I don't even know if he can give me more. So then there is this depressed, I hate everything feeling so do I ask for valium or something?! I'm crazy confused because I don't want to look like I'm "drug seeking" ..When I guess in actuality, I am. Since all the junkies have abused all these drugs, there's people like me, in need of care, and just petrified to ask about it out of fear of being labeled a junkie. Sorry to ramble on, and hijack this post lol...a few of you actually sound like you know what you're talking about though, so I figured I'd get some advice :)

LISA, NORCO is hydrocodone
I know this personally because I've been taking 10/325 for apx. 5 years.
10mg/hydrocodone & 325mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol)
I know this post is kinda old, but my question is WHAT medical school did you go to?? Cuz I'm only a Medical Asst. and I knew this long before I even took the drug....

The most important part of that referenced post is the first part. Your best source for an answer to your question is a chemist, preferably one who works at the lab who processes your samples. Find out the name of the lab and call them. Take pictures on your phone of the labels of all the medications--OTC and prescription--and also any supplements you use. Before you panic, understand that many drugs can cause many false lab results, and physicians are aware of this. My sister's second job is, in fact, dealing with chain of custody results; the first thing she asks folks is, "Are you on any prescription medications or do you use any OTC medications?" Arm yourself with info...I have a feeling you'll be okay. :-)

I'm beginning to think so. Also the responses are all mixed up-can't tell who's responding to what.

Lisa, I am not an RN but I AM an LPN and I have to totally agree with P450, Norco has NEVER had oxycodone as an ingredient. It has ALWAYS been made with hydrocodone, and the brand name Norco meant it contained less Tylenol for those who needed to watch their Tylenol intake. Such as a diabetic or someone with liver problems.

Come on America....the rats are winning the rat race...We need a Confederate Brigade of Cats to charge now and stem the drug prohibition era momenthem. Let's model on 1972...richest time in America...no D.E.A. yet, just the B.N.D.D....Bureau of narcotics....and dangerous drugs....note they don't say narcotics are dangerous drugs...and they really are not ....the problem is need for uniform dosing and seeming goofballs as the culpret...not opium drugs... And big city drug counselor will tell you that 98% of opiate drug overdoses result only when the patient mixes goofballs with opiates....the safest opium is tussionex and hycodan taken alone in generous ,not wasteful dosage...but apparently when you mix benzos and methadone or oxycontin the hospital admit rate soars up 98%.....lets demand less terror of drug laws from our govt...more commonsense.. Prior to now these youthful offenders one could get opiates by phoning a free enterprise worshiping ANTI COMMUNIST Pharmacy.. saying ...doctors office Pharmacist please...then politely and smartly ordering six or eight ounces of tussionex or hycodan in a town like SEATTLE or New Orleans...or even Hattiesburg Mississippi occasionally...God Bless Jesus General LEE And poppystraw opiates as schedule three drugs you could phone into ANTI COMMUNIST pre Obama's pharmacies.

Posters just so you know thorazine is a neuroleptic and most recent scientific journals will show that these drugs formerly mixed with opioids decrease the pain killing benefit of the opioid.

Hydrocodone does work better for some pain clients; it reverts as old school codiene to morphine in the liver.

Oxycodone again works better for some clients then hydrocodone. They are both class 2's now so physicians will not revert one for the other due to the new FDA 120 mg. equivalent rule affecting some of us with IP (intractable pain) that can kill which mine can.

Seeking a new PM in Texas or Louisiana my high level research specialist in California released 30 of the out of state clients due to new regulations. If you voted for Odumma you asked for the pain we all have now..

I'm a CNS "reducer" (forgot the clinical term). I was hospitalized when I was I'm med school — a simple "vein stripping". My doc was a good family friend and a real heavy-hitter among the staff. After 2 x .5mg Halcyon without sleep. He stopped by on his way out and asked if there was anything here could do to make me more comfortable. "Yep, Charlie. 200mg of Seconal or Nembutal IM" He wrote theorizer and caused a real tissy. Called the pharmacy and made sure they had it. The nurses demurred and he said, "Get off your asses and get it and here's MY script to cover it just in case." I need to do some research on your present condition. I promise I won't forget.

Joey remember when I mentioned the BL troll changing persona?

I think your newest muse for a kinder word is tailing you and now calling themselves a pharmacy tech.

You are entirely correct I am wondering worse yet if it is someone with a morbid curiosity of opioids (hence abuser) who flips names, and condescends as he/she has to real people seeking immediate help.

As you not this party picks as if they have OCD at every letter, word, and frankly attempts to now condescend to you a physician, myself a published researcher and also professional nurse.

Norco is the same as Vicodin just different strengths. Oxycodone is generic Percocet. Norco is not as strong as oxycodone.

It is good to know the forum does not back the credentials of the people posting. For what ever reason some people feel it adds substance to their post to boast of their education and position.
It has not added anything to the answer people have requested.
Hope it has added to the self esteem of the poster.

@Donna - PERCOCET is OXYCODONE 5/7.5/10 + APAP 300 or 600. As I always tell my residents, "Don't speak unless you're damned sure of your facts." Of course, you didn't even consult any reference material. I just KNEW this, having seen it over the years. That's the difference between an MD/RN/NP/APN and a layperson.

Valium and other benzes actually can exacerbate depressive moods, but the combination might help your pain relief, Usually, Pain Management specialists" and Anesthesiologists (depends on the year licensed; some don't need to be "taught"? how to medicate pain) have a wider berth in terms of prescribing. One jerk of a cardiologist thought I was "drug-seeking: when I asked him for a new script for Fiorinal w/Cod #3 for migraines. I'm good-natured, but I exploded like a H0Bobmb that day.I told him I could order 1K of those pills and get them tomorrow and C-IIs are easy to hide in the bookkeeping. I know how you feel. Just be honest (a good doc can tell) explain your hx, your current symptoms and current needs, You might benefit from a benzodiazepine and Valium is the best muscle relaxant, except that non one can find a generic that works even closely as well as the real thing. GOLOD LUCK, honey and you can always "shout out to me me" here. Psychiatry encompasses more than purely emotional pain.

WOW!!! I agree!! They must have taken too much Oxy or got confused trying to understand their own conversion as much as we did... LOL

You can start by asking your doc to explain the laws and limits. Tell him the current combination isn't quite doing the trick and see how he responds. The most likely response would be to raise your daily Percocet dosage — also, make it clear that you don't want stronger pain meds (e.g., Dilaudid, Demerol, etc.) just enough of "the usual to work. Hope this helps! Good luck!

What I said was some people can tolerate certain opioid compounds better than they can others. You don't have to look far--I'm one of them. Morphine made me hallucinate, have me hives and generally had a negative effect for post-op pain control. Off morphine and onto dilaudid and demerol, all was well. I also had a horrible reaction to methadone, prescribed for chronic pain. Off methadone and onto lowest dose of Norco, all was well. So I'm not sure what you're trying to say, but it's not making a lot of sense. And telling people they don't have reactions to medications, but really just want stronger drugs is an absurd sweeping generalization, and therefore not useful in the least.
