Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

I'd be interested to know....are you male or female? I only ask that as it's the women who seem to be giving anectodal records of having worse side effect from the Suprep. I concur about the sucralose. It is poison, and some people just can not tolerate it, I , for one.
Hope you feel better fast and that your procedure is easy and uncomplicated. My procedures were a breeze, but the Suprep was a nightmare.

Wanted to let everyone know of my experience with Suprep. Couple of days ago I had my prep and endoscopy/colonoscopy. I am female and 50.
After reading all the posts, I was a little scared but did learn some useful information.
After 24 hrs of a liquid diet, it was time to drink my first bottle of Suprep. On my way home from work I stopped and bought an orange flavored snow cone. I used a straw to drink the Suprep. I would take 10 big gulps of suprep and a couple spoonfuls of snow cone. Got the whole prep down in 15 min. It then took me 45 min. to drink the 32. oz of water. Prep worked within 2 hrs. I did walk around the house alot. I ate chicken broth, jello and popsicles and my beloved diet coke.
I was up at 4:30 am for my second dose. Had chilled that bottle in the frig, which does make a difference. This time I had an orange flavored pellegrino water as the chaser. Was only able to get through half the prep and dumped the rest out. Then chewed a piece of gum and drank the water. Prep started working within 30 min.
All in all, it was a piece of cake. Never got sick, had a headache, chills etc. When you read the posts, remember that everyone is different. My experience was sooo easy. And I don't have to repeat the tests for 10 years!!! Good Luck to you all!!!

Your beloved Diet Coke is sweetened either with aspartame (NutraSweet), which is a neurotoxin, or sucralose (Splenda), which is a bonded chlorine, having more in common chemically with pesticides than with sugar. Both are addictive. Since Suprep contains sucralose, it will not be seen as problematic by those who already consume sucralose regularly. But for those of us who, like me, are chemically sensitive (particularly reactive to chlorine), it is hard to assimilate. I have also learned that, despite the manufacturer's claims, sucralose does not pass completely through the body's system without breaking down. A certain percentage of it - between 11% and 50% -- is absorbed by the body. And the healthier the intestinal system, the greater the absorption. My colon, it turned out, is in the high end of excellent, probably because I am a long term vegan and eat only natural foods. And, as I mentioned earlier, I am also highly allergic to chorine, and have been all my life. I can't swim in a chlorinated pool, for example. So I think I absorbed a lot of it. And it was really difficult when I took my second dose of Suprep at 4:00 a.m. I had to keep alternating it with plain water. I could hardly not throw it up, and I burped and burped for hours both times, always with that sickening feeling. After the colonoscopy I was left with a slight numbness in the right two fingers of my right hand and the right side of my palm. Same with my right foot. It didn't go away after 24 hours. It wasn't the anesthesia, because it didn't contain anything that acted on the central nervous system. It wasn't a subluxation, because I've now seen my chiropractor twice. 48 hours later it is still numb. I have seen such effects mentioned online from researching sucralose, and I think it is implicated. The symptom isn't extreme, but it is persistent. I assume it will go away in a few days, but I certainly hope my body can break up the sucralose and pass the rest of it through, because I highly suspect this.

Bottom line: The manufacturer ought to offer a CHOICE: sweetened powder that one can mix in to the Suprep mixture if one wants to. I would have gladly drunk the whole bitter concoction and not mixed in the sucralose crap, which my body really can't handle.

Let me preface this by saying I'm a huge chicken when it comes to medical procedures. The thought of a colonoscopy was something I was avoiding given the stories I've heard from my parents. But I read an article in the local paper about a very position colonoscopy experience. I contacted the journalist and he gave me the name of the doc. Given my family history, he recommended a colonoscopy to help diagnose the issues.

The doc prescribed SuPrep as prep for the procedures. Having read all of the responses here I was scared to death to take SuPrep but my experience wasn't very bad at all (I understand that reactions vary). This was my first colonoscopy (I am 44) so I have nothing to compare it to but the SuPrep sounded much better than drinking a gallon of chalky substance.

My procedure was at 1:00 PM today.

The SuPrep was a clear liquid with no visual crystals or residue and actually didn't taste too bad (grape flavored). I chugged the 16 ounces (no straw) and then followed up with another 16 ounces of water. I then took the remaining 16 ounces of water over the next hour. I took my first bottle at 5:00 PM the night before and within 30 minutes I was on the toilet and remained there for the next 3 hours. Just get a good magazine/book and the time just flies! :-)

Everything stopped moving and I was able to get sleep from around 11:00 PM to around 6:00 AM. I had to take the second SuPrep 16 ounces at 8:00 AM followed by the same 32 ounces of water. On the toilet then, off and on, for the next 3 or so hours. No cramping or pain whatsoever.

I had both an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy but I was completely sedated using Propofol so the procedure was completely painless (obviously). Some gas pain post-procedure but now I'm resting at home.

All in all I thought the SuPrep worked well but I definitely wouldn't say the entire thing was enjoyable but, for me, it wasn't the nightmare some have reported.

Good luck!

Please....Not everyone has a bad experience with Suprep.
If this is your first experience with Suprep and are reading this thread before starting, don't be afraid!!! I am the biggest whimp around and it was super easy and worked well. I followed some of the suggestions earlier in this thread, which really helped. I had no side effects at all.
If I would've read all this negativity before my prep, I would have been scared to death..........

Best tips for first dose: Use a liquid you like besides water. I used cold, flat ginger ale. Bite into a fresh lemon or lime before and after each series of gulps. Hold nose and take a series of 5-7 big gulps. *Keep holding nose* the whole time to avoid most of the taste. Keep standing for a while so space in stomach for the liquids, seems to help with nausea. Be prepared for chills with space heater, hot water bottle or heating pad. I was very worried. Everyone sharing has been helpful.

I am a 36 year old female who unfortunately had to experience their first colonoscopy on 3/22/13.

After hearing the horror stories of prepping for the procedure I have to say that I was extremely nervous.

I took my first dose of suprep at 6pm on 3/21/13 and within 10 minutes I was in the bathroom every 5-10 minutes for the next couple of hours. 3 hours later, I went to the restroom for the last time and was able to dose until my next does at 1:15am on 3/22/13. This dose was much worse than the first for there was pretty much nothing in my system because I had tried to sleep for a few hours This dose took about 20-25 minutes to send me to the bathroom and I continued to use the restroom even once I got to the Endoscopy Center at 6:15am for my 7:00am colonoscopy.

I recommend that you drink the suprep as quick as you can and to space out the water intake of 32oz over the required hour. I made the mistake of dowing the 32oz soon after the first dose only to feel bloated. The second dose left me feeling somewhat nauseous and bloated from the extreme liquid intake. Also, due to the amount of cold liquid...please make sure to bundle up. You will feel extemely cold.

After the colonoscopy I have experience diarrhea the last couple of days and the doctor has assured me that this is normal. The first bout of diarrhea occured within 10-15 minutes of eating a light breakfast.

Good luck to everyone...the prep is worse than the procedure and you can get through it!!!!

Watered-down cough medicine is a good description. Just suck it up and drink it down. It definitely works quickly...within 20-30 mins. This is my 3rd colonoscopy, and Suprep is the best for me. Way better than the dozen tablets of Osmoprep....and quicker.

I've had 3 colonoscopies. Two previous with GoLitely, this one with Suprep. The latter was much more effective. Terrible taste, use a straw and very cold water, chase with a sip of water. 2 things to remember...start a diet of softer less dense foods one day prior to prep. This will ease discomfort. And be sure to coat your rectum with Vaseline, and use baby wipes. The actual procedure is a piece of cake! My Dr used Propofol as anesthetic. Left within 30 minutes, no drugged feeling.

I forgot to add I too did get the chills. I didn't know if it was because of drinking the fluids that were cold or what. But I would agree with the previous posts. Bundle up with blanket or bathrobe. It wasn't unbearable but I did feel pretty chilly.

I'm a 63-year-old female, healthy, active, mostly vegetarian. Used Suprep yesterday morning and evening, had colonoscopy at 7:00am today, which went fine.

Suprep tastes icky (like cherry and grape with essence of tin can) but in cold water and tossed back quickly, it's doable. Worked fast ... I was cleaned out within 1-1/2 hours and felt fine. Second dose last evening was the same. Advice: Before prep day - eat light. The less you put in, the less you have to get out! On prep day - drink clear sugary stuff to keep your blood sugar up, stay warm, and be happy. Do it ... this can save your life!

I had my colonoscopy this morning. I followed the instructions my doctor gave me, which varied from the Suprep label. A bottle mixed in 16 oz. water at 6 PM, followed by 32 ounces of water w/in 1 hour. Then a glass of water an hour until bed, and another round of a bottle mixed in 16 oz. water and 32 oz. water at 3 AM.
The first bottle was practically harmless. It tasted like artificially sweetened salty banana water. An hour passed, then results occurred. What I was not prepared for was the fact you are basically passing water, nothing formed. It did not happen more than a dozen times, and I never got chilled or nauseated. But it was definitely an unfamiliar sensation and to put it mildly, gross.
The 2nd round was more distasteful. On a completely empty stomach, the Suprep was foul-tasting. I was happy I did not get chills or sick to my stomach. The key is to stay upright, and get warm before drinking it. It would be hard to get rid of chills once they start.
My only real complaint is that my doctor did not subscribe to the school of sedation thought that goes on the belief the patient needn't remember anything. I had a very low dose of Versed and Demerol. It barely did a thing. I was awake and acutely aware of everything...and I was uncomfortable.
I figured out later it's all about making things go quickly, and minimal recovery time. That way they can get rid of you, and do more procedures in a day. Next time I have one, I am going to consult ahead of time and find a doctor who will knock me out all the way. It's already too stressful and uncomfortable to prepare for; the last thing I want to do is remain alert during the actual scoping.
Be sure to ask if you prefer to be asleep...in this era of tightening budgets and cost-saving, you may not want your sedation agent to be the thing they cut back on! It really bugged me too that I said this up front, and it was not until right before they started that they said, "Oh, you won't be out." I felt disregarded. But what are you going to do?

Bless your sweet heart!!!! I'd have gotten off that table and marched out of there! I cannot imagine going through a colonoscopy being aware of everything! What they give now to knock you out does not keep you groggy. When you wake up, you are wide awake and shortly after the procedure. The old way kept me groggy all day (kind of liked it).

I absolutely use a straw! It gets it past the taste buds that make it taste awful!!! I use TWO straws and get it down twice as fast!!! Then I take a bite of a banana popsicle and have no bad taste ever!

This was my 4th colonoscopy. SUPREP is by far the easiest method with the least side effects. I recommend chilling the prep bottles first and definitely using a large straw. I was able to take the 1st dose (6 oz SUPREP mixed with 10 oz water) in 4 chugs, following each chug with cold limeade. I had no nausea, no cramping, and the taste was not too terrible. The limeade took care of any after taste. Of course I wasn't exactly looking forward to the 2nd dose, but by the time that came around I was pretty cleaned out. Like others have said, I would also recommend a liquid diet for 2 days before your colonsocopy, and not just one, if at all possible. I slept throught the night, was only slightly chilled but a blanket kept me comfortable, and was able to make it to the bathroom in plenty of time. Please don't let fear of the prep keep you from having a colonoscopy. After reading some of the posts on here I was pretty nervous, but no problems. Colon cancer runs in my family so I will have to have colonoscopies on a regular basis. I believe SUPREP is the best prep available right now.

I threw up after all prep and 1 1/1 bottled 16 oz waters down. Moved bowels once( just before throwing up) then called doctor. Was told take 1/2 dose in morning, threw that up too, no more bowel movements. Was scared I would have to return and endure another prep. How I was as doctor said clean as a whistle mystified me but who knows. I hope all goes well for you

29 yrs old and first time ever having a colonoscopy. Suprep thus far has not been bad. Starting working within 15 minutes. Doesn't have a bad taste. My doc told me mix with sprite. I'm staying in the bathroom but other than a raw butt I can't complain.
