Suprep Reviews (Page 9) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHas anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?
Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.
Thanks!
Please do NOT use Preparation H - the dr told me it has chemicals than can hinder the procedure! Vasoline or wipes are fine!
Within 5 minutes it started working. Had a bitter taste so drink it all at 1 time! Had to drink the rest of water in the bathroom. No discomfort just felt bloated for a few minutes. Much better than previous methods given
I used it just last week before my first colonoscopy. So I have nothing to compare it to. However, I've hard bad things about past drinking solutions! It tasted like grape "fizzees" to me (if you remember that 1960's kid's drink). No problem with the taste or getting it down (per the directions). I just used water for mixing; using flavored mixers might lead to a strange taste. The chemicals in the Suprep gave me a kind of uneasy, unwell feeling but no nausea (during the first bottle) or vomiting. I had a tiny bit of nausea following the last of the second bottle, but it was not bad. I did not vomit. It worked great and cleaned me out. The only time I had a comparable experience was after I ate a hamburger in Mexico City once! I will seek it out again
when I get a future colonoscopy. I think the product is OK.
I took my first dose at 6PM and the other at 7AM. I chilled the solution along with ice water and had no trouble getting down either dose. I had a little bloating and chill from the cold drinks but that was about it. The stuff really does come out at a high rate. I just let the fluid do its thing and didn't try and force anything which helped my hemorrhoids from acting up.
As almost everyone has said, the colonoscopy was much easier than the prep.
Same here. I took it two hours ago and feel like I could explode from all the liquids and
am concerned because it works within minutes for everyone else.
I took my first bottle at 4:00 in the afternoon and will take the second at 3:00 in the morning. I am a real baby about consuming things I don't like but got this down relatively easily. It worked quickly and I do not have upset stomach or anything. Last time I had a colonoscopy, I used pills and was sick to my stomach all night long. This is much, much better. No problems at all! I consumed only clear liquids all day including popsicles, jello, tea and chicken broth (which was really enjoyable). I can't believe how easy it has been, especially after my last experience!
It took me about 2 1/2 to 3 hours before it started working, and then around 12 bowel movements. I still have to take the second bottle. I like this so much better than the gallon just.
Procedure at 10:00 a.m. First bottle of Suprep at 5:00 p.m. and second at 10:00 p.m. Chilled bottles in the refrigerator and mixed with chilled water. Tried the straw method for the first bottle and barely got it down. Nausea, headaches, and chills. The stuff is bitter and salty; about the nastiest thing I have ever had in my mouth. It took about two hours to begin working. With the second bottle. I tried to hold my breath and take a chug of 4 ounces every 10 minutes followed by a quick brushing of my teeth and tongue. This was working alright until the last chug. I threw it up. I am now struggling to finish the last quart of water. It has been over an hour, but I cannot get the last 14 ounces down because of the nausea. The staying in the bathroom is not what is so bad. It is the nausea, the chills, the headache. There has to be an easier way. If I am not "running clear" by 7:00 a.m., I am to take one to two Fleet enema treatments in the morning. Sounds like even more fun.
I am using the prep right now. Has a grape flavor, which I don't care for. So I tried to drink it as fast as I could. Starting working after 20 minutes.
I am not sure I understand the mixing... Is it correct that you have to mix the 6 oz. dose of Suprep with 10 oz. of water, drink that, and then drink two more 16 oz. glasses of water? Or instead of those two glasses, is it okay to drink something else like Sprite or lemon Gatorade?
Or, can you use those as the 10 oz. to mix with the 6 oz. Suprep?
I am determined to get it all down, no matter what. I need this to work.
The instructions with Suprep clearly state DO NOT take any other laxative with Suprep. The poster saying they took Miralax with Suprep is giving faulty and possibly dangerous information.
My procedure is schedlued for 8:30AM. When should I take the second bottle of suprep?
Tom, you sound like you're prepared for the prep. My #1 recommendation is to NOT chill the mixture. Just use cool tap water. No wonder all these people complain about the chills. Easiest way to get it down is chug it with a little Gatorade chaser (or the equivalent). Then chug that water down too. It's amazing how accommodating your digestive system is. Don't worry about not making it to the bathroom, you'll get a preliminary indication. Good luck. You'll sleep right through the procedure and will be back to normal by late afternoon. BTW, takes anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 or 4 hours for the first dose to kick in.
First of all, let me say thank you to everyone who has posted all the helpful tips! It actually is like having a large group of friends I never met, and we're all going through this experience together. As I sit here on the toilet, big bath towel over my lap for comfort for and kind of a table for my iPad, all of the helpful tips are getting me through this. What has helped me: sipping the suprep with a straw. I don't breathe at all through my nose to help avoid tasting it. Also, I just can't chug it, but instead I take small steady sips which drag out over 30 minutes for each suprep bottle. Drinking 2 16 0ounce glasses of water to chase it down was truly enjoyable. Clean, fresh water. The pharmacist recommended lemon or lime Gatorade to replace the electrolytes, so I will add that to the very last 16 ounce glass of clear liquid. I was tempted not to take the 2nd phase of the suprep because I thought I was cleaned out after the first phase. That being said, so glad I decided to take the 2nd phase, because I was obviously not completely cleaned out yet. My final suggestion is taken from another poster who used Vaseline on their rectum so they wouldn't get raw. I used Aquaphor instead, which basically has the consistency of Vaseline but also has soothing, healing properties to it. Highly recommend! Thanks to all my colon prep friends!
I used it last year and it takes a while before it starts but it will and you need to be ready!! 2 hrs is too soon in my opinion. this is my first choice as i found the suprep although expensive tier 4 on medicare - to be the least troublesome prep - i did 1 dose starting at 4 pm and was completed by 1 am. test was 9 am next day.
I made it through the prep…the procedure was the easy part. The directions were to start the prep at 6 pm, then wake up at 3am for the second dose! I would recommend starting the prep much earlier, say 3 pm. The your second prep as directed, but finish before a reasonable hour so that you can get your sleep! This is huge. I don't know why none of the specialists told me this!
I started with my second bottle a few hours before my scheduled time . I was suppose to start at 4:00 am but I chose to take it at 1:00 am hoping I could get a few hours of sleep before scheduled time of 10:30. I got close to 1/2 of the mixture down and threw it up so I didn't finish the final half. I was afraid I wouldn't be cleaned out enough since I didn't keep any of second bottle down so I purchased a fleet enema early am. After my procedure my gastro doctor said I was cleaned out inside and must have done well with the prep. I did drink a lot of water for my liquid diet. I will never use the suprep again though, it was much too harsh on my system.
It tastes horrible.
I just finished the first dose. It is HORRIBLE!!! Imagine a really bitter saltlick in liquid form. Yuck! I tried first with just water but couldn't handle that so I added some tea but that didn't help at all either. I'm dreading the second dose scheduled for tomorrow. Next time I think I will insist on something else. ANYTHING else.
When I took my Suprep I had a glass of cold apple juice next to me. I drank the Suprep through a straw..Awful..like gulp..gulp..gulp the drink some apple juice. Repeat until gone. You would think in this day and age someone could come up with a prep that is tolerable.
