To answer your question though, sulfamethoxazole/tmp is generally not recommended for treating yeast infections, as it is more so intended to treat "bacterial" infections. So in my opinion, it isn't necessarily the best 1st choice option. If you want to eradicate a yeast infection I would suggest talking with your doctor about trying an anti-fungal medication, such as Diflucan (Fluconazole), which is actually marketed for use in treating yeast infections/candida specifically. Thanks ## Hi wayne, From what I could gather, I believe the difference between the "SS" vs "DS" is single strength and double strength tablets. The DS tablets reportedly contain double the amount of active ingredients and I've also heard this was the case from other patients who've received an answer to this question as well. The other important difference to know about is that the double strength tablet is usually only taken twice daily as opposed to four times a day with the regular strength tablets. Okay so I got a staff assess drained about a week ago and started on sulfamethoxazole dm or ds tablet and I developed a fever about 2 days ago and I've been itchy all over for 2 days now I have also been experiencing the feeling of things crawling on me and extreme anxiety attacks and weird cold and hot flashes. I have a chronic kidney disease and my doctor prescibe this medicine ( trimethoprin-sulfamethoxazole at 850/160mg. My creatine went from 2.0 to 2.7 within days of taking the meds. Should I have been given a lower dosage according to my kidney function. ## Actually, other antibiotics should be prescribed first, before this one, because it can cause some kidney issues, as well as dehydration.
