It tends to cause some pretty severe side effects in a fairly large percentage of people that take it and those will increase with the consumption of alcohol. my spouse was prescribed sulfamethoxazole -tmp ds on feb 25. for 3 days. 1 tab 2-day she took total 5 tabs and had to stop. got severe headaches starting feb 27. it's now march 4th and still have headaches. went to er, doctor found nothing, did ct scan. prescribed fioricet 5-0-325-40 but pharmacy sub butal-acet-caff 50-325-40, which is not helping headaches. can any one help ## Hello, Dennis! my sister is 17 years old. she told me the she had sex without using condoms with his guy she been talking to for a while but the was the first time she did not use condoms. Next day he states the he had chlamydia in the past and he thinks he got them again for her to go get check out. is it safe to take an expired persciption of the above medicine? from 2007 ## When it comes to any medication I think it is best to not take any chances with the past expiration date (especially in the event that it is almost 5 years old). They MAY still be ok to take if they haven't been exposed to a high amount of heat or various other conditions outside of the bottle, however I am not a pharmacist or MD, so I cannot guarantee if it is in fact safe for you to consume. There is still a high likelihood that it lost a lot of its potency and may be ineffective to the point where it could harm your body by not doing it's job all the way, per say. I'm taking sulfamethoxazole tmp and phenazopyridine and I'm having a party is it okay to have up to 3 beers? ## princess the alcohol will decrease the efectiveness of the sulfa ## I haven't read anything about alcohol decreasing the effects of Sulfamethoxazole/Tmp... but according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, using the two together has been known to cause serious side effects including but not limited to: a pounding heartbeat, rapid breathing, flushed skin, and increased perspiration (i.e sweating). That said, in my opinion it's probably not worth risking these symptoms for 3 beers. However in the event that you do experience such symptoms from ANY amount of alcohol, Umm.edu recommends that you contact your doctor immediately. I hope this helps!

I am self medicating with these 2 yr.old tablets that were given for my now deceased husband. I am on oxygen full time and for the past week, my breathing has gotten worse and I have pain in my right ear. I decided to cut out all of my herbal pills for eyesight and hair etc. to see if that was the cause. I still have shortness of breath. I figure I might have an infection going on so I am trying the Bactrim to see if that helps. I take a half pill a day of Digoxin - very low dosage. I have only taken one Bactrim, but so far, so good. I admitted my yself to the ER to treat a black eye infection. Ended up with 2 anti biotic. The first one was amox tr-k clv. The second anti biotic is sulfamethoxazole/tmp ds.
