I would like to know if I can take Suboxone for 3 or 4 days to wean off my heroin addiction? I don't want to replace one habit for another. Will I be alright?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR RESPONSE. ALTHOUGH I WAS AN ER NURSE FOR MANY YEARS, I STEPPED AWAY FROM THE BEDSIDE SO I DON'T KNOW ALL THE NEW TRICKS THESE KIDS ARE USING. I ALSO ONLY SAW OVERDOSED PATIENTS SO NEVER GOT TO SEE WITHDRAWALS CAUSE THEY WERE ALWAYS TRANSFERRED. WE TRIED INPATIENT MEDICAL DETOX BUT NEITHER OF THE TWO PROGRAMS HAD A MALE BED AVAILABLE WHICH WAS SUPER FRUSTRATING. WE RODE AROUND THE CITY TRYING TO FIND A PLACE, BUT NO SUCCESS, WE HAVE A LONG TERM PLACE THAT TELLS US IF THEY HAVE A BED THEY ARE TAKING HIM TOMORROW. IT'S A 6 MONTH PROGRAM...PLEASE PRAY THEY CAN TAKE HIM! THANKS AGAIN.

Dude you can say that suboxone can't help you if you buy it on the street! I been on suboxone for almost 4 yrs... Never had a prescription and actually started taking it with 6 months clean from a mean ass dope habit that was that much worse because they were all cuttin their dope with fentenoyl I bought 3 subs a whole the first day half the second and half the third and quarters for the next four... Then nothing.... You need to experience some pain otherwise you don't respect it....Sure I wasn't a %100 for a month but if you ain't got a strong will and can't take being uncomfortable that's straight weak and if they don't have the muscle and strength to get thru week 2,3,4 clean off dope then they will ALWAYS use again I would bet every paycheck that I will get for the rest of my life that person won't make it a year! I initially started taking it to get high but realized that it helped me that I didn't even think of doing dope.... And they are so abundant in philly everybody knows someone that sells Em you can get em as easier then you can get dope! I've taken 1 a day from the day I started and besides the rare occasion need nothing more then 1 a day. And I can get by on a half. Sometimes I taper down to an 8th.... Never could do that with dope. Go 4 or 5 days without em and the worst thing that happens is being a little restless and have a little trouble sleeping which ant nuttin a half of trazadone can't help. I can go a whole work week with out em and nobody could tell the difference except I'm in a better mood when I stop taking them.... I couldn't go to bed at night without a bag of dope to get me outa bed in the morning so I could go cop before work. I could never go to work sick but subs are way different there is barely a sickness with em.... They saved my life without the interference of a doctor.... And they help alot of people I know.... At my job alone I sell at least 70 of em a week and that's a lot of people who ain't robbing or stealing to get high, who come to work everyday with money in their pocket, who take care of their families, who don't have insurance and can't afford to pay a doctor 200 every month and another 300-400 to fill the script but spend a flat 300 and that's it no wasted time at the doctors... Or there are a lot like me who buy em of the people who do go to the doc and are still shooting dope who sell there whole script except a few few for the end of the month to have it in their system to get more...... So that I not only get mine for free and make money cuz it isn't just profit but I help people who are f***ed up and show them how suboxone can save their life.... Cuz we are the ones paying taxes who pay for the junkies who still wana get high get our tax money when they get on welfare cuz they don't work and get the script of 90 subs out of the pharmacy for $1 every 25 days.... While we can't afford health insurance to get help with because they say we make to much money.... You gotta make less then 200 a month to get health insurance.... Who can live off that? Nobody! Except these junkies who won't get a job but waste my tax money when they get on welfare to get pills to sell to me so I can be a productive member of society while they take my cash and my tax money and go get high.... YEA all these people who go to the doctor to get em for nuttin.... While we bust our asses to stay straight and so we can go to work and make money for them to get high.... Going to the doctor don't mean your Gona stay clean... Gotta be in your heart and mind and you gotta build a strong willpower or there is no chance of staying clean.... That's real s***!

what do u think they do in a detox dude? they give it to your for 3 days to get you threw the worst of it..no pain no gain..long term sub maintanance is for people that are likely to relapse, and are better off on suboxone..rather then stealing for smack.

Marie, I am not sure Michael answered your question, he provided his own experience with Suboxone. Your question is, "Can you ween yourself off of opiates by utilizing suboxone for a couple days" and as Jon stated, YES YOU CAN!! What Michael is talking about is purely suboxone maintenance, a program in which you continue to use suboxone not just through withdrawls, but as a mean to get your life on track by taking it everyday to curb cravings and prevent you from getting high. Now what you are asking is completely different. From what I understand you would like to take suboxone in order to get through the initial withdrawal symptoms, which as Jon already stated from personal experience is completely doable (which is what I am currently doing as well). Now the trick is staying clean after you are no longer taking the suboxone after day 4 or 5, which is the tricky part. Yes suboxone maintenance (taking suboxone for a long period of time) does help you get your life back on track, but if you think you can stay off of the opiates after that 5th day once your suboxone is gone, do it!! Michael failed to mention of F***ing difficult it is to quit suboxone, even after a couple months, unless you VERY slowly ween off, which between doctors visits and medication can be very expensive, however you cannot put a price on a clean and healthy life, so if that is what you need, by all means do it. I am weening off of heroin by use of suboxone and then I am going to rehab and going to white knuckle the rest of the acute withdrawals there. Good Luck to you! As Jon stated, do not think you cannot control your own destiny!

Sorry if I'm too late to help you, but this will help others who find this in an internet search. Imodium - generic name is loperamide - will help enormously. It's anti diarrheal but it's technically a narcotic. It's otc because it doesn't produce a high. Taken in large enough doses, it can ease many other wd symptoms. Do your research. IMPORTANT : stay hydrated with water and take stool softener as needed. You CAN get so constipated from this that it becomes a serious medical problem. Impacted feces. Can cause real damage inside. If you stay hydrated - and I mean HYDRATED - and take a ss, and take only the amount of loperamide you need you should be fine. Peace and good luck!

Noooo. You have to be in total withdrawals from your heroin addiction for it to work. Although, you will probably be feeling the full effect of the suboxone within a day or so.
WARNING: DO NOT TAKE YOUR SUBOXONE AND ANY TYPE OF NARCOTIC AT THE SAME TIME. IF YOU DO, IT WILL TRIGGER WITHDRAWALS SOOO INTENSE
YOU ONLY THINK YOU'VE HAD WITHDRAWALS BEFORE. HUH.
THE OLD ADDAGE IS TRUE: ALCOHOL DETOX CAN KILL YOU UNLESS YOU'RE UNDER A DR'S CARE.
OPIOID DETOX WON'T KILL YOU. BUT IT WILL MAKE YOU WISH YOU WERE DEAD........

I love what u wrote. Everything u said was so true. I'm starting to withdraw rite now & I have a few subs that I'm gonna detox myself with. I hate this heroin so bad. I had 9 years clean before I relapsed last year because of a separation with my girlfriend. God bless all addicts out there cause there's alot of ppl that don't understand heroin addiction. I've never heard of anyone sleeping through heroin withdrawal. That in a way is a lucky thing cause most people have anxiety so bad they want to die. So good for you really.

Umm yea you can ween yourself off with suboxone. It will probably take longer than 3 to 4 days. I'd say you could do it in a week or a week and a half. Not 3 months. Granted your still going to feel fatigued and maybe have some muscle aches for a few days after you take the last bit of suboxone, but you just got to tough that out. Its better than the dope sickness. These people are just ridiculous about it and want to come off dope not feeling a thing. Your going to have a period of feeling like s***. There is no way around it. It's just the level of s***tiness you feel what symptoms of s***tiness you have. I weaned off subs in a week after a 9 month run of taking 25 to 30 bags of dope mixed with coke a day. For about 5 days after I took my last bit of subs I had very low energy, my muscles ached, and my head was foggy. But it was better than cold turkey.

I was on a heroin habit of between 4to8 bags a day, used my saved up suboxone tabs to detox, took 10mg for two days, then 8mgs for three, then 6mgs for 4days,then 2mgs for a week, and eventually chucked it altogether but I had to make sure I ate well and often as I believe when addicted to anything you're diet suffers which results in you're general wellbeing suffering n then we all put it down to rattling, eat better, get some form of excersice n tr n sleep, tire yourself out,it wont b easy but u can do it,believe me if I can,you can.good luck.

I've been on heroin for 1 year maybe more, but prior to that I was on 6-10 30mg IR oxy a day and went to black because the blues weren't giving me relief, just keeping me from withdraw. I was taking anywhere from a half gram to a gram a day of black and that was everyday. Now it's been 7 days since i last dosed and I've only taken 1 8mg suboxone strip and a half of a 8 MG subutex pill. I created my own dose... I figured out how much my body needed and made them 2 last for 7 days. I thought this would never happen. I'm very proud of myself and hope anyone out there trying to quit reads this. You have to be ready to quit. You have to cut all ties related to your D.O.C. Most important one is you have to want to quit. For yourself, no one else.

Although Suboxone is more difficult to ween off of, (in my opinion), than basically every other type of euphoria-inducing, ritual full-filling, adventure tempting, 4-D view of the otherwise boring world everyone else is just a small part of, all encompassing, state of bliss painkiller... it is one of a very few REAL and true paths out of the spiraling mindset that is addiction to opiates...

...and thats the good news...

After you start Suboxone or Subutex therapy, the intense and increasingly sudden rush of endorphins, feelings, emotions, strange dreams, and flooding rush of your body's natural hormones (if your under 24, or so I read...somewhere...*) will force you to feel whatever you havent in the last **however long you've been on whatever it is...**

There are ways to change your life that you cant even imagine...I mean, how many famous people do you know of have had some run in with drugs? ALL OF THEM? I thought so....

*THE POINT*
Getting clean sucks...at first...BUT...give it a chance...its worth it, we all know, we all have been there...good luck and peace

*I think
**insert length of addiction here....really...

If she's taking suboxone she would be able to sleep, just not in full withdrawal

Suboxone doesn't generally result in another addiction, if you follow your doctors instructions and use it properly.

Unlike Methadone, which usually leaves people addicted to it for life, those who follow a proper Suboxone treatment plan, usually end up completely drug free.

However, as the other poster has already said, it is going to take more than 3 or 4 days. It can take months or even years, for some people, depending on the severity of their addiction.

You have to start with a dosage that is near that of the opiate you were taking, to prevent the worst of the withdrawals and then it must be slowly tapered, over time, to allow you to become drug free.

Hi! You seem to have a pretty open outlook on this subject...thought I may be able to get some good advice as well :-)
I have been taking pain medications for about 5 years now. I have maintained the same dose for over a year now, but I am always in pain and I have developed an addictive cycle within the way I distribute my prescriptions to myself during the month. Long story short...I am able to and have completely weened myself off of soma and oxycodone (it's been 10 days), but I am trying to figure out the best way to ween off of MS Contin. I have 25 60mg pills that I have put away in order to start a daily ween down, and that will start in just a few days. This is an extended released pill and this complicates things a bit. I am currently taking 3 per day. My question for you is whether you think I would have an easier time weening off my pills over a week or two period myself, or requesting ciboxin? I have been able to handle running out of the other two prescriptions before refill dates with only minimal discomfort and so long as I had MS Contin. I think my body has become totally dependent on these drugs and that I could not possibly know if I am truly in pain because of the addiction my body is attached to. What do you think? I'm a bit scared...and I hate back pain. I had a medical marijuana card in Oregon a few yrs ago and that was the best alternative I've found to pain pills. Since MM has just legalized in my state, I have decided to get off these pills and go back to that. No matter what anyone thinks and how controversial it may be...I believe it is a safer alternative to pills. Just want the easiest scenario possible :-) I have had surgery in 3 places of my back...I appreciate any response!

He might be thru the worst of the acute withdrawals - they're the really rough ones in the beginning that last anywhere from a few days up to a couple weeks depending on the person- but he's still gonna have to deal with the Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms (more commonly reffered to as PAWS).

PAWS aren't as intense as the acute withdrawals are, but they're very real and are the reason most people relapse. The old saying "getting clean is the easy part- STAYING clean is the hard part" is very true. PAWS can last awhile so be prepared. Suboxone is a great tool, but they're not a get out of jail free card. Withdrawals are your brains way of generating new receptors. Don't worry, the brain will heal the damage done from opiate abuse- it just takes a little bit of time to get it firing correctly again. Good luck. With your support and a good recovery plan he can do it.
