Suboxone & Phentermine
UpdatedDoes anyone knows if taking Phentermine (diet pill) and Suboxone is harmful in anyway?
I'm not finding any contraindications listed that states they cannot be used together.
However, this site is not medical professionals, so you should check with your doctor or pharmacist to be on the safe side.
Is your doctor aware that you are taking both?

No problem taking the two together. I have been on Suboxone for two years, and my doctor just started me on Phentermine. Also, I checked with the pharmacist before filling. If you have heart trouble or very high blood pressure, you should be monitored however.
I know this question is old, but for anyone who may be looking for the answer. Yes you can take suboxone & phentermine together. Ive gained 45lbs on the suboxone & I have never had a weight problem in my life before suboxone. So I talked to my recovery dr about it & he put me on phentermine 37.5mg. I have lost half of the weight already in 8wks & I have not had any side effects personally. I take 8mg of suboxone a day & 1 & 1/2 phentermine 37.5 a day. I would ask your dr before taking phentermine & if you can, get it from him. If he does not prescribe it, then definitely get his ok before you go anywhere else.
I have been on Suboxone for 5 yrs. I am trying to find some insurance that will cover my meds. Between me and my husband both being on it we pay almost $2,000 a month. Somebody please help me find a insurance company that will cover us...

I want to ask my Suboxone Doctor about taking phenteremine. I want to lose weight & have tried so many things. I feel like this would help. Ie seen a lot of friends take it & lose weight fast & have the energy to exercise and I want that. Thanks for all the info. I go see my SUboxone dr Wednesday. Hopefully he will agree. I weigh 240 lbs. before suboxone I weighed 180. I nee some kind of help. The suboxone saved my life & marriage. I would rather have it if I have to choose but hopefully I won't have to.
Hi wondering. Did your doctor agree to the phentermine? I want to ask mine next visit. But dont know how she will react. Ive gained 40lbs in a year!! And its causing major depression for me. Not to mention how it has affected my marriage, seeing how its REALLY hard to feel like being intimate when i hate mY body and im afraid he will too.
I'm taking suboxone and I have gained 61 lbs since detox last July. After MUCH begging and crying, my dr prescribed me phentermine. She doesn't like prescribing me anything anymore since I asked her for help with my painkiller addiction. She said that the potential for abuse is high with this medication. I knew that she would say that, so I talked to my sub dr first, and he said that he didn't have a problem with me taking phentermine because it wasn't even close to my drug of choice. I also have taken this med before and had a lot of success with it. My sub dr also said that he doesn't know why I'm gaining so much weight so fast. I told him that it's the sub, but he told me that it doesn't cause weight gain. I told him to read some of these posts.
I'm in Ma and I used to live in Tn where no in we would cover my sub or my doc visit now I have BMC HEALTH NET THROUGH MASS HEALTH and I DONT have to pay Doc Visit, or the full price of the meds and my co-pay is o only $3.65 in which I have that at rite aid so basically I do not pay for it at all not even r I fill.I had to move to get sober bc as ya know when ur on drugs or whatever ur always broke so I moved to basically get better one the northern states offer more support to ppl with low income and I've been clean and sober for 2.5 years now.So that is one suggestion for insurance if ur willing to move or if ur willing to just go up north and just register as if u lived their and go back to where u live u would have to travel each month but I hope some of this info is helpful!
I've been on Suboxone for a few years now and used to pay cash for it and yes it is expensive. I've switched from methadone and I'm so much happier on Suboxone. I am on Bcbs and they pay for my Suboxone now. I have to pay for the Dr visit which is 150 and I pay for the meds up front but they pay me back 100 percent in 5 or 6 days. From people I've talked to in the clinic their is several insurance carriers that cover Suboxone so just call around. On another note I've recently started taking Adipex-p to take care of the weight I've gained on Suboxone and I've had no problems with the two. I didn't want to tell my weight loss Dr I was on Suboxone because of the looks I get when I do so I researched the two together. They also give me lipotropic injections to take home with me with several vitamins like b12 b6 choline inositol methionine and others for energy, metabolism Boost, and fat burners and water retention. I go to Dr Summer's weight loss clinic in Alabama: summersweightclinic.com/weight-loss/weight-loss-injections. Good luck finding insurance, it definitely helps you out finding one.
Did you do anything else besides take the diet pills when the weight came off?
Did you tell the weight loss doctor you were on suboxone? I called one clinic and they wouldn't treat me with phentermine because I am on subs, so I am about to call another and I'm wondering if I should just lie and say I'm not taking any meds? Do they do drug panels?
Try getting zubsolv it is the same as suboxone but cheaper! Hope this helps
They don't at my place. I looked up and found out they weren't dangerous together and lied. Haven't had any problems.
I go to a place in Alabama called Parkway Medical which isn't a clinic per say but it comes up when you search for Suboxone Dr's. I go to Dr Wise. I found out about it from word of mouth because my old Clinic MedPlex went up from 150 to 175 and this place was still only charging 150. I found a site you can search for clinics and Dr's if it'll help. buprenorphine-doctors.com/find-a-doctor.cfm
I have blue cross/blue shield and they cover my suboxone, only pay a 15$ copay.
Been on suboxone for almost 3 years. I've gained so much weight I asked my sub dr. If I could take adipex. He said he had no problem. Then after going and getting the adipex he says I cant take it. That they are not letting no one in any state (I'm in wv and my dr. is in ky) to take the 2 together. I have to go to the dr. every week and I've tried taking the adipex one or two days a week and I still pop for it on my drug panel. Wish there was some way around it, the weight gain and the no energy is really getting to me.
Hey i also go to Dr.Sommers in Al for weight loss...but i am very interested in your Sub Dr. Of u could give me a lil more info about it... I don't have insurance an need a program like this badley...thanks for the help

Just remember the Adipex can be addictive. My sub doctor strongly suggested I try something different. I started using wegovy. It has worked so much better and down 30 lbs in 3 months.
Re: Dan (# 19)
I live in wv and have suboxone and phentermine together
Re: JENNIFER (# 4)
I know medicaid covers suboxone. I also know with the goodrx card and a suboxone card you can get a major discount. Around $110 for a two week supply of 2 a day.
Re: Cadence (# 3)
I thought I was the only one who gained so much weight I have never been a big girl it’s good to know I can take the phentermine
Re: JENNIFER (# 4)
Get the generic and use goodrx it's much cheaper
Re: JENNIFER (# 4)
Have you ever used GoodRx and lower the price a little bit? Does save a little bit of money, not a whole lot. There are also if you go to the Suboxone website there are coupons you can download or print off that will save you money or manufacturer coupons and get coupons from them to help cover the cost.
Re: Cadence (# 3)
I just started taking phenermine as I’ve been taking subutex for a long time. Arent you worried about the addiction from adepex
Re: countrygal (# 21)
Idk if you're still in tm or on Suboxone, but if you're in the west TN area and have ins (they don't take em all, but some including Tenn are) the sub clinic I go to is pretty good. I'm going to ask Dr next visit about possibly getting on phentermine to lose this excess weight. I am 5 ft even and weigh 200 lbs and no diet or caloric restrictions or exercise is helping I'm just steadily gaining. I am seriously thinking of getting off the subs though. I'm only on 1/4 of a strip every couple of days and the only reason I still take it is for chronic pain.
Re: Ashley (# 10)
Well I live in Tennessee and My insurance pay's for All that no copay. I have been going for 6 year's and They always Have taken my insurance. Depends on the insurance company I guess. Glad that you have It paying. Because those clinics are outrageous with no insurance. Best regards to You And stay strong.
Re: Wondering (# 7)
