Stopping Lisinopril (Page 6)
UpdatedI have been taking 10 mg/day of Lisinopril for 3 months and have developed a tightening in the chest and flu like symptoms. Within the past 3 weeks I have felt progressively worse and would like to stop. Is it ok to just quit or must I wean myself off?
I've been asked for an update with my lisinopril experience. Looking back my comments go way back and I haven't participated for some time, but:
When I went OFF linsinopril my symptoms disappeared after a few very minor episodes. I am now on another BP medication that does control my BP and the other symptoms no longer exist. Yes! many take lisinopril with no ill effects, but some, myself included, know that severe reactions DO happen. May it not happen to you, or if it does, may your primary care get you off the denial go-round I went through.
My dad took lisinopril for 2 days, and had a bad allergic reaction. His hands swelled up to where he couldn't make a fist, and sore tongue & lips. He finally let me take him to emergency room, and they gave him IV to neutralize the lisinopril. Lisinopril almost killed him. It has been 2 months since, and his tongue is VERY sore. The Doctor gave him mouthwash yesterday, but sore tongue isn't improving.
If you have bilateral stenosis if the kidney don't take Lisinopril. It might make you get kidney failure.
I was put on linspl/htz and have been on it for a month, gained a good 15 pbs, been off day 3 now, sweating, shaking, vomiting, tachycardia, now my vision getting worse?cold sores on my mouth, lethargic and faintly. I should have never been put on it, I have hep C,and I couldnt pee about a week ago. Should i go to the er? I feel really scared..
I know how scary health issues can be. I hope someone is with you. I don't know if you have been in contact with your doctor, but you are the only person who knows just how "off" your body is right now. I don't think you should hesitate to seek medical help if you feel you need it. Best wishes for answers and better health.
I've only been taking this medication for 3 days and i just stopped it today because it can damage your liver. Is it ok that i just stopped it? It was a 40mg tablet taken once a day.
Our doctor and pharmacist said it was okay to stop taking Lisinopril cold turkey. Although, it may not be a bad idea to switch over to the herb Hawthorn which acts as a natural ace inhibitor.
Yes, but go ahead and try Hawthorn which acts as a natural ace inhibitor.
Hey there,
I'm a pretty healthy individual and had to start taking lisinopril in december of 2015 due to high BP caused by pain. Since then i've been stuck on 40mg a day. I am 27 years old, athletic, etc. What are the risks if i stop taking it? I am worried i'll be stuck on it forever.
What are the most common side effects I should be aware of after taking Lisinopril 5mg & Indapamide 2.5mg for 7 years, then just stopping them as the doctor told me to? My joints are really aching. Is this normal?
Started 3rd bp med lisinopril abt 5 yrs ago. Readings have been 130 something over 70 something. Now all of a sudden they are 105/57 and 119/63, for the last 2 wks. Have been drowsy, unsteady legs and a stiffness in my neck. Can I wean myself off lisinopril? Do have dr appt in a week.

Re: sheryl (# 11)
I have had the exact same thing while on Lisonopril
I’ve had a constant dry cough so hard that I throw up sometimes doctor put me on antibiotics thinking it was bronchitis or Pneumonia I am on my second set of anabiotic’s because the first that didn’t work I am so sick of coughing I really thought I had COPD I’m a bit angry that it’s taken me this long to figure out it’s the blood pressure medicine. I started looking online because I was so afraid it might be something worse I want to take myself off but it looks like that is not wise to do I am only on 10/12.5 mg tablets
I must be really slow to figure this out because I’ve been on Lisinopril for over six months I’ve had this cough for at least three months but under a lot of stress just thought it was the fact that I wasn’t taking better care of myself
I got off lisinopril after 3 months and crying a lot, anxiety and sore throat. How long will this last. 71 years old
Re: Linda (# 4)
doctors are killing people with this medicines, they are all working for big pharma, they dont care about patients,
Re: doris (# 18)
Try evening primrose oil instead? Takes the top number down. I now take it twice a day as the side effects after one year on the lisinopril were slowly crippling me with anxiety and digestive issues. Coming off now and afte 4 days was finally able to exercise for 12 min straight without fear I was going to die.
I have been on lisinopril for a month with absolutely horrible side effects. 72 hours without it now and side effects still come and go. Anyone else been through this? How long did it take for side effects to stop? Thanks!
I started the keto diet the same day I stopped my lisinopril I have a home blood pressure monitor and my blood pressure has been great without any medicine I stop cold turkey I don’t know if I recommend that but that lisinopril made me so sick I couldn’t stand it I was getting dizzy my face was swollen my body was swollen my chest felt compressed I couldn’t breathe I hated my doctor did prescribe another medicine that I’m going to have to look up it starts with an L as well but I have not taken it either I just monitor my blood pressure daily and this diet is helping immensely
Re: Dottie (# 117)
I too had digestive issues causing havoc now I find, because of the Linsinopril --causes Gerd. And my gerd started in 1996 when I began taking this med. I've taken times 'off' during those 20+years but always was scolded back to taking them due to my blood pressure. After finally getting a doctor who listened, he took my readings MANUALLY. Guess what, my blood pressure was NOT high even though the electric ones read mine at deadly rates, causing me stress...hmmm. Fast forward, I recent had the flu and couldn't keep anything down for 5 days. Well, then as I recovered, the last thing I wanted was any pills. Incorporated a lactose free probiotic (stirred in cold water) and have to say I feel so much more alert! I do worry about the consquences of stopping the blood pressure meds but have only heard warnings, no statistics on that claim--anyone else find this data?
