This is my 3rd month on tri sprintec and I'm having a light period. I already contacted my doctor and the nurse said my body is getting use to the pill also I took two pregnancy test and they were negative. Now I am having severe back pain and can't hardly move. My mom things I hurt when I took my boyfriends Christmas down and carried the box upstairs a few days ago. She has had 5 kids and doesn't think I'm pregnant. Do you think the back pain is unrelated to the light period? ## Hello, Ayla! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. The back pain could be due to cramping caused by the hormones in the oral contraceptive, or it may be due to the exertion of taking down the tree, only your doctor can let you know for sure, but cramping while on OCs is a common si...

I am finishing my 3rd pack of Tri Sprintec and I notice today, when I should be on my period, I am having light bleeding. Before I was on Sprintec my period started on the 4th white pill in the morning. Since I began Tri Sprintec it starts in the afternoon. I am only bleeding lightly today. Could I be pregnant or is my body still adjusting to the new pills? I haven't missed a pill at all. ## Hi ayla, From what I could gather, irregular bleeding and/or menstrual periods (relative to the time frame that you're used to experiencing such symptoms) are reported to be general side effects of Norgestimate + Ethinyl Estradiol - the two key components in Tri Sprintec. So if you haven't missed any pills at all, my opinion is that you probably don't need to be too concerned about t...

So I started my period on the 11th of December & it ended on the 16th-17th of December. I took my birth control pill on the 18th of December (first time ever) I only took two of them bcus they made me throw up and feel really sick... Now on the 28th of December I'm having g bright red blood (spotting) any idea what's going on?,could I be pregnant? ## Hello, Brittany! How are you? If you didn't start them the first or second day of your period, but engaged in intercourse on the days you did start them, then yes, there is a risk of pregnancy, because they take 7 days to become effective if you start them at any other time, as listed in the FDA medication information. However, since these are hormonal based contraceptives, it is most likely that taking a couple, then stoppi...

I've been on Sprintec for a little over a month....before taking my periods were light and lasted no more than 5 days. I've had a very heavy period now for 2 weeks with LARGE clots as well as no libido at all....is this something to be concerned with and contact my doctor or just wait it out...I was on sprintec about five years ago and it was wonderful with no side effects but this time has me ready to give it up...please help! ## Hello, Dawn! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're having. Our bodies do change with time, especially our hormonal levels and from the symptoms you've described, it sounds like your estrogen is too high, so the Sprintec may be adding too much for you. You might need to switch to something else. Some breakthrough bleeding can be n...

are the inactive ingrediants the same for sprintec and mono-linyah. picked up my daughter's refill of sprintec today and they substituted with mono-linyah. The pharmacy staff reassured me everything was identical. My daughter is afraid to take it because she has had sensitivities before and had just completed a year long course of acne treatment. They claim that sprintec is unavailable and have no idea if and when they will get it in. ## Hi Jane, Based on my research, these medication "do" contain a different set of inactive ingredients. Each blue Sprintec tablet is said to contain the following inactive ingredients: anhydrous lactose, FD&C blue no. 2 aluminum lake, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, and pregelatinized starch. Each white tablet contains only inert ...

I have been taking Sprintec for 3 months now (just started the 4th week of my 3rd pack). I started my first pack on the first day of my period and during the first month I got my period during the 4th week. When I took the second pack, I got my period half way through week 3, and now in my third pack I got my period 2 days before week 4. Could this be my body still adjusting to the hormones and is it effective even though I get my period before week 4? ## Yes, the effectiveness doesn't change, unless you actually miss taking any of the active tablets. And it can take 3 months for your body to get used to the hormones, however, you should check things out with your doctor to be sure. There's a chance that it just might not be the right OC for you to take. Is there anything else I...

I just started sprintec today and my period is due to come on in two weeks. Will my period come a few weeks late since i will be on the second week of pills? ## Hello, Mooney! How are you? There's no way to say for sure, it depends on how your body reacts to the added hormones. It may delay your period, until the week of inactive pills, or you may get on schedule. You may also have a period both times. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, PMS like symptoms and mood swings. Also, please remember that if you didn't start it the first or second day of your period, you will not be protected from pregnancy, until you've taken the active tablets for a full 7 days, so you'll need some backup method of contraception, until the 8th day. Is th...

I stopped taking Sprintec in July/August because I no longer wished to be on it. I had my period in September, but have since not seen it. I did have irregular periods before I was ever on BC and missed periods from stress. I was stressed out lately but it has since calmed down, and now im not sure if my period would come... its probably been almost 30 days late, and pregnancy results have been neg and ovulation tests low. Im thinking of going to the dr soon to get checked out, but just want to know if I should wait it out or if now would be best. Btw, ive been overly tired lately, and went from eating a bunch to not having an appetite at all... ## It's best to have things checked out, but most likely there is nothing to worry about and it's just from stopping the OCs. Your body...

I was prescribed sprinted on October 7 of this year , I took the first pill on the 8. However I stopped taking them 4 days ago because of the side effects. I started some spotting today. Now feeling like I'm ready to menstruate, but nothing is coming out. Can this happen? ## Yes, that can happen. Oral contraceptives use hormones to prevent ovulation, so you can't get pregnant. Thus, you added these hormones, for awhile, then suddenly took them away, so your body is needing to readjust. You may also still experience irregular bleeding for awhile, headache and PMS like symptoms. If it continues, you should speak to your doctor about the issue. Is there anything else I can help with?

So I started my period today (tuesday) and was prescribed sprintec today as well. I'm a bit confused because am I suppose to wait and take the pill this upcoming sunday, or do I start today? If I do take it today should I start with the blue or white pill in the tuesday or sunday section? ## Hello, Kim! How are you? You should start the first day of your period, with the active tablets, not the period week tablets and just start with the first one in the pack. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I also have been prescribed the pill. I was told to start on a Sunday., no matter when my period started. It happened to start on a sunday. So I started taking the pill. I am still having my period. Is this normal?

I'm on an antibiotic to get rid of my UTI. I don't start my white pill until tomorrow but I'm bleeding now. I've been on sprintec for almost 4 months now and my period usually happens the sencind it third day if the white pills. Is something wrong? And should I take my blue pill today? ## Hello, Grace! How are you? Some antibiotics lower the efficacy of oral contraceptives by reducing the amount of estrogen that you absorb. Thus, your body is reacting just like it would during your period week and don't take any hormones. You should continue taking them all, just as you normally do and use a backup method of protection, until you've finished your course of antibiotics and have taken 7 active tablets in a row after finishing them, which means no unprotected interc...

I've been on sprintec for about half a year now and never had problems. Recently I missed 2 blue pills and had intercourse within those days and now im spotting a week before the white pills. What does this mean? Do I jump ahead and start the white pills that im supposed to take while on my period? Why did this happen? ## HI, Nisa! That can happen if you miss active pills. When you have your period while taking oral hormonal contraceptives, it is actually called a withdrawal bleed, because it is due to a withdrawal of the hormones. The tablets you take that week are actually just placebos. Thus, by missing pills your body is made to operate as if it is time for the withdrawal bleed to occur and having intercourse those days increased the risk of pregnancy, just an FYI. ….and y...

Hi. I am on sprintec and forgot to take day 9. on day 10, I took 2 blue pills day 9 & 10. On day 11, I took my pill as normal, and now I am bleeding. Its dark in color. Is this normal? I've done this before and don't remember mid cycle bleeding. thanks, ## Hello, Faith! How are you? When you're taking oral contraceptives, your period is actually a withdrawal bleed that's caused by withdrawal of the hormones. Thus yes, anytime you miss a pill or take it late, there is a chance of experiencing bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hello, my doctor just prescribed Sprintec as a replacement for my old pill. I started right after finishing the old pack. Do I need to use a back-up method for the first 7 days ? ## Hello, Amy! How are you? No, if you didn't miss any days, then you should be fine to do a seamless switch. Is there anything else I can help with?

I started tri sprintec back in May. At the beginning of July I stopped taking them for two months and then started again a few weeks ago. I remembered my doctor saying to start the Sunday after your next period. So after my next period, which ended on a Sunday. I started. A few days later I started a second period. This one heavier than normal. And it has been going on for five days now. I'm wondering if this is just because I started and stopped? Or should I be worried. ## Hello, Hope! How are you? They should actually be started the first day of your period, regardless of what day that is, but regardless… Irregular bleeding can be normal, because your body hasn't really had a chance to adjust to the hormones, yet. Especially since you took them for a couple months, then ...

I just started my 2nd pack of sprintec and I have been bleeding for over 10wks. I had an IUD removed prior to starting OCs. After several visits to the Dr they finally found I was bleeding due to the IUD causing me to have no lining on my uterus. The Dr said for me to take 3/day for 4 days then 2/day and so on until I start my period again. Is this normal?! ## Hello, Candy! How are you? I have never heard of them being taken this way, but it would be best to follow your doctor's instructions, since they are specially trained to help with such issues. They may just be trying to boost your hormone levels to stabilize your uterine lining to stop the bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been on Sprintec for 3 months, but I stopped taking them due to hair loss! Anyways, June was my last month on them. It's July & I haven't gotten my period. I'm irregular by the way. Does Sprintec mess up periods after not taking them anymore? ## Hello, Kristy! How are you? Usually, when you take an OC for a few months, your body stops producing the relevant hormones on its own and, once you stop taking it, it can take 3 months or so, for things to return to normal and your body to start producing them, again. So yes, this can happen and is usually nothing to worry about. However, if it continues after a couple months, you should consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?

I recently started taking sprintec birth control again after going without it for a couple of months, this time I started it on the first day of my period which is the "day 1 start" I came on my period July 22nd & I am still on, it usually only lasts 5-7 days so I'm a little scared now being that its been 20 days, there first 7 days I had a heavy flow like my normal pd but after the first 7 days it's been light and barely there, I talked to my doctor when the first 14 days had passed and she said that things like this can happen, has anything like this happend to anyone else? & ifso how long is it going to persist like this? And what should I do? ## Hello, Jenny! How are you? Yes, this can happen for about the first 3 months or so, while your body is getting used...

I started Sprintec a few days ago I'm 43 taking them to stop excessive bleeding I'm very nauseous even smells make me sick I don't know Wat is causing the bleeding still doin tests is it normal for me to be very sick at my stomach? ## Nausea can be a normal side effect of oral contraceptives, but it's usually not that severe to be at the point where even scents cause nausea. Has your doctor run any tests? When was your last pap smear? Are you on any other medications?

I have been on sprintec religiously for years, cycles are always regular, always start 4 days after the last active pill. Last month period was much lighter, this month none at all. I have never missed a pill, but don't always take them at the same time each day. Should I be concerned? ## Hello, Becca! How are you? Unless it continues, or you've had an irregular pap smear, then it's most likely nothing to worry about. The natural level of hormones in your body will change over time, which could affect your cycle. But please check with your doctor for your own peace of mind. When was your last pap smear? How late do you sometimes take them?
