I am on day 3 of my inactive pills & I have not started my period yet. I have been on the pill for almost 8 months now. Should I be freaking out? ## Hi, Ash! No, I don't think freaking out will do any good whatsoever, other than to stress you out completely. Stress can cause you to skip your period, so can many other factors. Have you been engaging in intercourse? Have you missed any pills? Have you done a pregnancy test? Since you are concerned, I do encourage you to contact your doctor, they can do a test and exam to help you discover what's going on. ## I am on the same pills (sprintec 28 day) and lately my periods have been irregular in their start dates. Last month my period was almost a week early resulting in a period lasting about a week and a half. The month before ...

I started Tri-Sprintec the day after i filled my prescription on Saturday June 6th. My period isn't due until June 16. I'm confused on what to do now. Do I need need to stop this pack and start a new one the day of my period?? Can you please help me? ## Hello, Nae! How are you? No, that's not necessary. Since you started before you were on your period, it just takes a full 7 days, before it reaches its level of effectiveness in your body to prevent pregnancy. If you'd started it the first day of your period, it would be immediately effective. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, weight gain and PMS-like symptoms. You will also most likely not follow your prior period schedule, but i...

I have never taken BC (Sprintec) before. And I started my first pack a week before my period was supposed to come. And now it is a week into my first pack and I have gotten my period, and I am still taking the active pills. - This is the time of month I would have normally gotten my period if i wouldn't have started BC a week ago. But it concerns me because I have my period while taking the ACTIVE pills. Is this normal? And will it correct itself, so I get my period when I take the inactive pills in the future? ## Hello, Drew! How are you? It is normal to have irregular bleeding for the first 3 months, while your body is getting used to the hormones in the oral contraceptives. Eventually, things should balance out and you'll get your period only during the week of the inactive p...

I came on my period twice this month I started at the beginning of the month and I'm back on again at the end of the month while on my blue pills for sprintec, if I stop taking the pill and just wait until I get the next pack, will my period stop? ## Hello, Sabrina! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Irregular breakthrough bleeding is normal for the first 3 months, or so, while your body is getting used to this medication and no, stopping them likely won't help, because the last week of the pack are actually placebo pills with no active ingredients that normally induce your period. The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, weight gain, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. If the bleeding is very annoying...

I began taking Sprintec on the Sunday my period began. I bled the entire week. I spotted for a week and then began bleeding again the third week. I was taking the pills at the same time everyday, but recently started taking them earlier. I have finished all of the blue pills and I'm beginning the white pills that have no hormones. Will I be menstruating for another whole week? ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? I'm sorry, I know that can be very annoying. How long have you been taking it? You can usually experience breakthrough bleeding for the first 3 months, while our body is getting used to the hormones, if it continues beyond 3 months, then you may need to try a different oral contraceptive. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, headache, irritabil...

I have been on Sprintec for three months now, and have been fairly good about taking my pills. However, during break, I forgot a few times about my pills and took those I forgot 4 hours late. For about a week, though, I have been back on track. Last night when we were having intercourse, my boyfriend's condom came off as he was pulling out. He had not ejaculated yet, but we are not sure if he was completely dry. Today, we were out for lunch and I accidentally took my Sprintec 2 hours late. Am I still protected, or should I go for Plan B? ## My boyfriend's condom busted last night. What should I do to prevent pregnancy?

My depo shot just ended . I got it o December 8th, 3 months would make March 8th. If I were to be pregnant and didn't know and started taking Sprintec, what would happen to the baby? ## Hello, Candace! How are you? It would be best to check for pregnancy, before starting the oral contraceptive, if you have reason to suspect that you might be pregnant. However, oral contraceptives will not end an existing pregnancy, if you start them and are pregnant. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleeding and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi, I was on sprintec for nearly 4 years and everything was fine when I was on it. But do to health problems with my gallbladder I had to quit taking it. It's been nearly 4 months and I still haven't had a normal period. I think I had one that lasted 3 days and then another one about a week ago that only lasted one day. Is this normal since I was on it for so long? ## Hello, Lauren! How are you? Yes, it can take several months for your body to balance your hormones back out on its own. It was used to relying on the oral contraceptives to control them. However, as long as your last pap smear was normal and your doctor sees no reason to be concerned, then it's nothing to worry about. According to the FDA, you may experience other withdrawal effects, such as irritability, PMS-l...

If i started sprintec a week ago on monday with out me being on my period and stopped today on a monday can it prevent me from getting pregnant? ## Hello, Brittney! How are you? No, if you start it later than the second day of your period, it takes a full 7 days for it to become effective at preventing pregnancy and it is only effective as long as you continue taking it. That's why some women have gotten pregnant from just forgetting to take one of them. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleeding and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?

Ok so my period usually last 5 days I started my period Tues and I wanted to stop it so I took the blue sprintec pill and now my period still on and heavy I never been on any type of birth control what should I do now to stop it ## Hello, Marie! How are you? Unless your doctor has some other solution, you'll most likely just have to let it runs its course, so it stops on its own. One oral contraceptive tablet isn't enough to stop it, to help control your cycle, they need to be taken regularly. By taking one, you've thrown off your hormonal balance, so your period may be remain heavier and last a little longer than usual. The FDA lists possible side effects as including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, irritability and break through bleeding. If you want more control...

For the past 2 months, my period has started 1 or 2 days before the light blue inactive pills. Is this normal? ## Hello, Jenn! How are you? Yes, that can happen and is generally nothing to worry about, as long as your most recent pap smear was normal. Unless your doctor feels that there is some reason to be concerned. Aside from breakthrough bleeding, the FDA lists the other side effect of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, PMS-like symptoms and weight gain. So I took an active pill one morning and I threw it up. I immediately take the next days pill. Will this throw off my cycle? Should I use protection until my next period? ## Hi Kit Kat, In many cases when you "miss a pill", I often see instructions stating that patients should take the next one "as soon as they remember", and then sticking with that new schedule to keep your hormones from fluctuating too much. This is what my fiancé does when she forgets to take hers... but I imagine that the protocols for missing a pill wouldn't be any different than if you were to throw one up and then take the next day's tablet instead (being that it's the same thing). So in this scenario I don't see why you'd even have to worry about not being protected since...

I started taking Sprintec late last week, so I dont have too long of an experience with it thus far. however, the night that I started taking it, almost immediately after I started my period. I had just had my regular period 2 weeks before. The bleeding on this period is INSANE. I havent bled this much since I was 16. the birth control that I was on before this (yaz) made it so that I only had a true period every 3 to 4 months, with spotting in between. My doctor changed me to Sprintec because the Yaz didnt seem to be working anymore the way that it should have. my doctor warned me that it could be like this for about 3 months or at least until my body becomes used to this certain medication. The amount of bleeding I am having is just so unreal that I am concerned that it is not normal....

I started sprintec for the first time about a week & a half ago the sunday after my period. Literally got my period again right after. Ive just been bleeding & have tender breasts. No cramps or anything like usual. i'm confused & annoyed. How long will this last? ## Hello, Regina! How are you? You should have started it at the beginning of your cycle, which was the first day of your period, not after it was done, that would provide immediate protection from pregnancy. Starting it later in your cycle, as you did, requires a full 7 days for it to become effective in the body, so you'd need to use a backup form of protection until the 8th day of taking a pill, without missing any. That said, breakthrough bleeding can be a normal side effect of hormonal contraceptives, a...

I just had my son 6 weeks ago and am starting Sprintec for the first time. Do I have to wait until i get my period before I can start the first pill or can i start it and it will make me start my period? ## Hello, Mindy! How are you? When were you told to start it? Generally, you can start it at any time, but if you're not on your period, it will take 7 days to reach its full level of efficacy in the body, so you'll need to use some other form of protection, until the 8th day of taking a pill each day, without missing any. And no, the active pills won't start your period. You should get it during the last week of pills. I recently started taking sprintec birth control again after going without it for a couple of months, this time I started it on the first day of my period which is the "day 1 start" I came on my period July 22nd & I am still on, it usually only lasts 5-7 days so I'm a little scared now being that its been 20 days, there first 7 days I had a heavy flow like my normal pd but after the first 7 days it's been light and barely there, I talked to my doctor when the first 14 days had passed and she said that things like this can happen, has anything like this happend to anyone else? & ifso how long is it going to persist like this? And what should I do? ## Hello, Jenny! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. However, your doctor is correct,...

So i took a break from taking sprintec birth control pills for a month. I stopped in November and started taking them again in January. My period checker stated i was supposed to have my period 2 days later. Ive started the pills beginning on sunday now i have a brown discharge, is this normal? Am I ok? ## Hello, Chanel! How are you? Well, when you're on oral contraceptives, your period will adjust to them and not stay on its usual schedule, additionally, by stopping for a month, you threw your hormones levels off and a period checker would most likely not be totally accurate, anyway, since it doesn't take that into account. And, since restarting some unusual breakthrough bleeding is also to be expected, as listed by the FDA, other side effects may include headaches, irritabilit...

Hi, I was on the depo shot and my doctor switched me to sprintec. It says to wait until the Sunday of my first period, however the after effects of depo shot has caused me to miss two periods. There is no chance of me being pregnant, took a test to confirm it. Can I just start taking the pills now? ## Hello, Bl! How are you? Unless your doctor has told you not to start them at any other time, you can start them now, but you should know that starting them at any other time in your cycle will not result in them being immediately effective at preventing pregnancy. Thus, you'll need to use a backup form of contraception for the first 7 days of being on it. I used to take Sprintec and my period would start on Mondays. I was off of it a few months because my prescription ran out and it took me a while to get to the doctor. I want to stay with a Monday start so what day should I start back taking my pills? ## Hello, Keshia! How are you? You can start them on a Monday, as long as your doctor approves and it doesn't necessarily have to be when you are on your period. You can start them at any time during your cycle, but if you aren't on your period, it will take 7 days for them to reach their full level of efficacy in the body to prevent pregnancy. So, you'll need to use a back up form of protection, until the 8th day. The FDA lists the most common side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headach...
