I started taking sprintec on October 21st, my cycle waa due on the 24th. It didn't come. Usually I'm a normal blender for 2 days, then very light the last 2. I stopped taking sprintec and my cycle came on Nov 2. I have been bleeding like a slaughtered pig, with clots for 5 days.....having to change every hour. What is going on? ## Hello, Kay! How are you? The hormone in the oral contraceptive can affect your cycle, it may be heavier or longer than normal. Did you stop taking it altogether or do you just mean you stopped for the placebo week? The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. With the clotting, you should consult your doctor, because that's usually due to your estrogen being too ...

I am 19 been on sprinter for 5 months now. I recently tried to skip my period by not taking the white pills. It's been two weeks and I'm still bleeding. It's light but I was just wondering if it's normal? I still have a little pain like cramps but is not that bad. So I don't know if I should contact my doctor?! ## Hello, Gabriela! How are you? Yes, that can be normal, when you try to skip, it doesn't always work and the disruption of the hormonal balance can cause you to bleed longer than usual. It's generally not something to be concerned about, unless your doctor feels otherwise. The FDA lists other typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have 5 days of active pills left and accidentally took a placebo, what do I do!? ## Hello, Jessica! How are you? Take an active pill, as well, it won't hurt anything and then just have a day where you don't take a placebo pill during your period week. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, breakthrough bleeding and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?

I'm 38, the week of labor day this year I continued a pack because I was going camping. I had my period a bit heavier last month. So after that I started a new pack and I should be starting my period tomorrow but I've not had the normal signs. I haven't missed a pill either, in over 4 months. I'm in a 7yr committed relationship so we don't use condoms. Is pregnancy a possibility? ## Hello, Jen! How are you? Did you get your period? It can be normal to skip, while taking this oral contraceptive. Some women don't experience periods, at all, while taking it. If you haven't missed any pills, then pregnancy is most likely not a concern, unless your doctor feels there is reason to be concerned. The FDA lists the other possible side effects as including nausea, dizz...

I started taking Sprinted on the first day of my period, Friday 10/2. My period ended Saturday, 10/10 which is normal. I started feeling breast tenderness since the 9th which is unusual for the end of my period. Today is the 11th and period is back as if it were starting again like normal! The mild annoying pain in my abdomen too and it's not light which means I'm not spotting. I get married in 7 days and am concerned I'll have my period during the wedding. Should I keep taking the pill? ## Hello, Temy! How are you? Congratulations!! It can be normal to have irregular bleeding for the first 3 months or so, while your body is getting used to the hormonal changes caused by this oral contraceptive. However, stopping it now would pretty much guarantee that you'd be bleeding ...

This is the first month I've been on birth control and I was told to start it right away, and I did, so 2 weeks into my first pack I started my period, but before it started I had 2 or 3 days of terrible cramping, which is why I went on birth control in the first place, I figured it was normal and kept taking the pills once a day but the cramping hasn't gone away, normally my periods are 3 days long but so far it's been a week and hasn't stopped plus the 3 days and in total my cramps have been far worse than they ever have been before, and the blood that is coming out is bright red and thin, normally my period blood is dark and thick, I don't know if this is normal but I can't handle the cramping much longer. ## Hello, Kirsten! How are you doing? I'm sorry ab...

Hello My physcian put me on Sprintec to avoid a period for vacation. I started it lateJuly. I skipped the placebo. August 31 I started spotting and I am now on my vacation and on my 7th day of spotting. My Dr advised doubling up on the pill. What if I just stop it completely? I have marathon in 5 days and do NOT want to be bleeding. ## If you stop it completely, you will most likely start a full period, since it is a withdrawal of the hormones that induces your period. Spotting is normal, when taking oral contraceptives. It can occur for the first 3 months, or so, while your body is getting used to them. The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, PMS-like symptoms and weight gain. It would be best to follow your doctor's instructi...

Wat to travel to North hence wanted to prepone my periods. ## Hi Swathi, When it comes to medications that can alter the timing of your menstrual cycle, this typically involves the use of hormonal contraceptives. These are prescribed by your doctor or gynecologist. I don't recall the exact dosing protocols that make this possible, but taking the active/inactive pills at certain intervals may either prepone or postpone periods. As far as choosing a medication, I often hear about Loestrin Fe and Sprintec birth control tablets being used in such a manner. However, your prescriber should be able to give you specific instructions that allow you to tailor the timing of your period to your individual needs with whatever brand of contraceptive he/she sees fit. I hope this helps!

I started my pills on Thursday 8/6 and didnt relable the days of weeks. I started right on thursday, now I'm down to taking the white ones. Do I take the 4 blue ones that are left or start a new packet? ## Hello, Carol! How are you? Really, you should have taken them before you started the last week of the pack. However, since you didn't, if you're already having your period, then you should most likely just start a new pack and dispose of them, unless your doctor instructs otherwise. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain and breakthrough bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with?

so I started birth control (sprintec) the second day I got my period. I started it Saturday night and took it the next morning (Sunday) when I woke up. I went tubing that day and had my period the whole day like normal. then the next day I did not bleed much it was that awkward brown sort of thing and then I completely stopped bleeding a couple days after that. I'm on the "placebo" week of my first pill pack. I'm about to take my 3rd pill of my placebo week and I still haven't gotten my period. is it my body just getting use to taking this pill?? ## Hello, Sarah! How are you? Yes, it's most likely due to your body getting used to the hormones in it. You can experience such irregularities for the first 3 months, or so. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may...

Hi. I just started my 3rd pack of pills and I have had continous bleeding (like a medium period) since the 1st pack. Should I stop taking them or will my body eventually adjust and stop bleeding? I feel like it's never going to stop! ## Hello, Reo! How are you? According to the FDA, irregular bleeding can occur for the first 3 months, while your body is getting used to the hormones. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. If it doesn't stop by the 4th month, then you may need this may not be the right contraceptive for you and you'll need to speak to your doctor about trying something else. Instead of taking the last row of pills in my sprintec pack, I skipped and immediately started a new pack with the blue pills. I've just finished two weeks of blue pills and STILL have my period- should I take the white pills this week to try to finish my period and then take the *3rd* week of blue pills (and then start a new pack after)? ## Hey it's the original poster of this thread. For clarification, I took rows 1,2, and 3 of one pack, skipped the last row, and started a new pack hoping to avoid my period. I have taken rows 1 and 2 of the new pack and still have my period. I am asking if I should take week 4 (inactive pills) to finish my period, and THEN go pack and take row 3 of blue pills. Then start another pack normally. Thanks in advance for your help:) ## Hello, Katie!...

I've been on sprintec for going on a year now and I recently moved kinda far from my pharmacy where I get my sprintec pills and I got a refill that was picked up for me but I haven't been able to go get them for about 3 weeks now and I usually start my period around the last week of the month , and its the 3rd and I still haven't gotten it yet . is this normal ? ## If you've not been able to start this pack of pills, then yes, your hormone levels have most likely been thrown off, causing you to skip or be late. The other alternative, if you've had unprotected intercourse, is pregnancy. You may want to check in with your doctor, just in case. In the future, you may want to look into a mail order pharmacy, to avoid not being able to start the new pack on time. The FDA ...

This is my second month to take Tri Sprintec. Do I need to use backup for seven days when starting a new pack since taking the white pills is like taking nothing at all? If not, I usually take my pills at 8 but I started my new pack 4 hours late today; will that be a problem? ## Hello, MissAnn! How are you? No, you only need the backup contraceptive for the first week you start them, when either new to taking them, or after having taken a break from taking them. And no, again. Taking a pill late, occasionally, is fine. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. So I have been on the sprinted pill for months, now I stopped for a month and I started it that Sunday. The next day on Monday I had intercourse. I haven't seen my period for a week. I'm assuming the worst but I read that sometimes when you skip a month and start again it could make your period late. Could this be the case? ## Hello, Revlon! How are you? It could be either. You may be pregnant, or your cycle may just be off, because you took a break from it. How late is your period? The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. ## It is going on a second week it was supposed to be on last week ## And another thing is I finished the birth control pack as well that...

I have a festival to attend so I want to schedule my menstrual cycle asap. I just have week for that. Is that why people take hormonal contraceptives? ## Hi, I have planned a tour on 10/10/14 and my date of menses is 9/10/14. So I want to be finished with my period before the journey. Plz, tell me the name of medicine should I take? I'm 30 yrs female. ## Hello everyone, I'm not familiar with all brands of contraceptives, but the two that I hear about being used most often when it comes to altering the timing of your period are Sprintec and Lo Loestrin Fe. Apparently taking the inactive tablets is what would normally induce your menstrual cycle by causing breakthrough bleeding... So my understanding is if you change the date that you would normally take these particular pills, yo...

I started sprintec on the first day of my period.ever since then,I have stop and go bleeding.today has been the heaviest since my period.is this a side effect for sprintec? ## Hello, Evelynn! How are you? I'm sorry about that, I know it's very annoying. Yes, that can be a side effect of oral contraceptives and it may take about 3 months for things to settle back down and normalize, because your body is getting used to the added hormones. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain and PMS-like symptoms. If it continues too long, or gets very heavy, then you should consult your prescriber, as this may not be the right one for you to take. Is there anything else I can help with?

I don't know if this was posted before because I didn't see it but I have a question. I'm on sprintec birth control and I got my period yesterday at 1am. I've taken 2 of the white placebo pills. I was wondering if I started taking the blue pills will it stop my period? Tomorrow's my birthday and I feel absolutely terrible due to my period. I've been on this birth control for about 2 months. I'm almost 4 months post partum. ## Hello, Marie! How are you? No, once you've started, switching back to the active pills won't stop it. It can sometimes lighten it or shorten it by a day or so, but that's about it. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleedi...

My doctor said to start sprintec the Sunday after my period started. I haven't had it yet and started them yesterday anyway. My period should be here soon. Should I wait to take the second pill until my period starts or just continue taking them? And if I should continue them, how soon would they become effective? ## Hello, Alex! How are you? If you start oral contraceptives the first or second day of your period, they will be immediately effective. However, if you start them at any other point in your cycle, it will take a full 7 days for them to become effective, so you would not be able to have unprotected intercourse, until the 8th day. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you! That answered my question. If I have any more I will post them here. ## Hello, so I just s...
