My Psychologist prescribed me Sonata 10mgs a month ago, but it's not working. She is out of town this month, so I won't see her for a while. Is it ok to take 20mgs? I also take Lamictal 150mg and Effexor 225mg Clonazepam .5mg as needed ## Hello, Blackberry! How are you? I'm sorry that you're unable to sleep. No, you should not adjust the dosage, without your doctor's approval, especially while taking the Clonazepam, it could be dangerous. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Sonata as including dizziness, funny taste, headache, dry mouth and back pain. How often do you take the Clonazepam? That can also help with sleep issues. ## Hi Black...

1 REPLY UpdatedDr. put me on sonata 10 mg for insomnia, but I feel it puts me to sleep sometimes. However I wake up few times a night and getting less quality sleep, feel less functional next day because of less quality sleep. It has a 1 hr half life and is the mildest of all. I want to ask to try a diff sleeping pill, but nothing strong like ambien. Maybe lunesta? I don't want a next day hangover from one either. Any help would be great! Thanks. ## Hello, Ash! How are you? Lunesta could be a good choice to try next. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, funny taste in mouth, headache and cold symptoms. Does anyone else have any ideas or suggestions?
1 REPLY UpdatedHi all. I've been on Ambien for about 5 years. I know I should only take them for 2 weeks at a time, however I have chronic insomnia and cannot sleep without it. I've tried most of the other sleeping pills, (lunesta, restoril, trazodone, remeron, serequol, most of the benzos, and the OTC diphenhydramine and doxylamine succinate) however, the only thing I've ever had success with is the Ambien. But, my tolerance has become absurd. When I first started taking it 5-10mgs would knock me out, but due to taking them for so long, I've built a tolerance. I'm currently prescribed 20mgs a night, which doesn't even touch my insomnia.. I usually have to take 40mgs or more to get any sleep. I know this is unhealthy and I want to switch to something that will still work, but t...

1 REPLY UpdatedBottomLine Health lists this as a dangerous drug Doctors still subscribe ## It is listed as dangerous probably because it can be addictive. It is really dangerous for someone who has a history of drug/alcohol addiction. It is only supposed to be used for short term sleeplessness though. ## The reality, on top of what nenene already said, is that ALL prescription drugs are dangerous. That is why they are controlled substances and require prescriptions to obtain them. They all have side-effects, it is a side-effect of their chemical make up that you are relying on when you take a drug. You will not be able to purchase any prescription drug that does not carry various dangers of some kind, there are even dangers with over the counter meds if you read all the packaging. So simply put, there...
