Side Effects Of Suboxone (Page 8) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been on suboxone now for just under a month. I think it is an amazing drug, i have had no cravings or interest in returning to opiates, my drug of choice was oxy. I get up every day feeling happy, and am able to take on what ever the day brings me. I am also on lexapro for depression at this time. There is one problem after i take my dose, which is 8 mg. twice a day, I am extremely tired sometimes to the point where if i sit down I will nod off, so I keep moving and can usually fight through it. I am wondering do other people feel this way or does it get better the longer you are on it? Two other things that are sometimes very bothersome are dizzyness and extreme dry mouth. I just wanted to find out other peoples experiences. Thanx
THANKS Heather for being thoughtful and sweet and leaving a reply... I JUST now got an e-mail that someone had made a reply so don't think I was ignoring you.. I live in a SMALL town and there's about 7 Sub clinic's and ALL charge the same price...Some people from even smaller towns with no other option's drive an hour or so to this small town just to get in a clinic..I saw I could no longer afford to go and on my last appt. I got 105 8 mg.'s filled and I am down to 3/4th's of one strip.. I just cannot get below that..I think its all in my head though and I need to be stronger...I started the clinic in October of 2012 and it's now May 2013...I still have 105 that I got filled the last time I went to the clinic and had 87 from the month's before where I kept saving up but the 87 I had left over are down to about 12 strips now..It truly made me feel bad to leave the clinic...The Dr. was great and very understanding, nurses were great, it just had a good atmosphere overall and they treated you humanely...They said I was their best patient and the only one who had never failed a screening, never missed a count (RAD) appt., and should be their "poster" child, LOL... I felt bad because I didn't tell them but I was afraid if I told the Dr. would have lowered my dosage on his own and I wouldn't be able to adjust..Some go too fast while other's keep giving you 24 mg.'s daily so thought I'd try it on my own.. Another Dr. who knew I was on them had a problem himself so he totally understood and gave me clonidine (blood pressure meds) and phenergan for withdrawal's if I needed them.. I DREAD taking myself down more.. I've been on 3/4th's of an 8 mg. strip for almost 2 month's now but cannot bring myself to go lower.. I also wanted to thank Suzi_Q for her response also.. Still with the same b/f and NO support still and yes it's a LOT harder to actually do since I have been with him for over 8 yr.'s..I just tell him to shut up and I can hear him mumbling but I pay him no attention. They do have NA meetings but I'm unable to find anyone to get some more information...This small town I live in is known as a drug area and all of the smaller town's around it too so I'm left without any friends also.. People are on drugs here at age 18, 30, 50 and beyond..SAD but true and really there is no help anywhere..I have been to the Methadone clinic here before and did nothing but sleep, eat, and burn everything including myself..I remember one night I had gotten up to go to the bathroom and I smoke cig's so the next thing I remember (I nodded off of course) was waking up with my underwear and crotch area on fire.. Kinda sounds gross but kinda funny too so thought I'd share that with you all too... ..Any advice on how and when to taper down and for how long??? : ) THANKS again Heather and Suzi-Q !!!!!
Hi!.. Ive been on suboxin for 6 months, Im on 16 mg a day. If you are feeling the "nod" after taking your dose discuss it with your doctor its usally a sign that your dose is to high. Try 4 mg than waitan hour and take the other 4 mg. As far the dizziness i havent had any problems with that. The dry mouth is a side effect that you will have to get use to. I carry hard candies like werthers or campinos it helps toep saliva flowing. I also know that certain meds can counteract with suboxin causing dizziness or extreme fatigue such as antihystamines,or antinausia medication. Make sure your doc and pharmacist aware of all the meds that you are taking.
I do the same thing with the nodding off and dry mouth. Iam new on suboxen. So can't give you to much info. But I am experiencing the same signs you are.
My husband just started using suboxone today. He has had his first dose 1/2 of 8 mg strip. He was prescribed 2 / 8 mg strips per day. He is feeling irritable and very tired. Because of these symptoms he thought he was still feeling the effects of wd's and took the other 1/2, as directed by doctor. Can someone please give me some feedback, i have questions that only suboxone patients can answer.
1) Is irritability is a normal side effect of suboxone or will this subside as he gets use to it?
2) His libido has diminished since he as been addicted to opiates, will this return with use of suboxone?
Thanks for the post, we now realize the tired feeling is a normal side effect at this point. Most especially, thank you for informing us that he should not use suboxone more than a couple of weeks. God Bless You all in your quest for sobriety.
I have been on suboxone for 1 week now after withdrawing from methadone. I was under the impression I would feel better, more alert etc. I am completly the opposite. I am so tired, I am very moody . A huge difference as I was very athletic and enjoyed life. Im very depressed and wish I never switched. Im not uncomfortable or hanging out. Im on 16mg . My skin has broken out and very itchy. I visited this site before I went to detox and im very happy it has all worked out for you guys. Hopefully its just early days and things will settle. Sooner the better....
we all under suboxone are all a bunch of zombies .get u out of an addiction to another but now we need the drug from d government.thts all it is.
I have a question has anyone switched from methadone to subox? If so is the transition a difficult one?
I was on methadone before I went on suboxone, and it was the best thing I ever did. I always felt drugged on methadone. I would nod out, esp. when driving. I woke up every morning feeling so achey and lots of body pains until I went to the clinic to get the methadone. I had a lot of problems taking methadone. Then I switched to suboxone and have had no problems w/it. There is no difficulty, at least for me, from switching from the methadone to suboxone. and I don't have any side effects from the suboxone like I did with the methadone.
you are probably taking too much suboxone if you're feeling tired and having those side effects. I've never had any side effects from it. I did feel tired and some things when I first started. I was on 24 mgs. at first, but now I'm done to 8 mg and have no side effects. try a smaller dosage and maybe that will help. good luck
yes I am on 8mg subutex daily it is doing really well as far as pain and withdrawl symptons go however im having some nasuausness lightheadedness and few other side effects I was wondering will my body eventually adjust to this and also im very comfortable pain wise on 8mg daily will I build up a tolerance to where I will have no choice but to up my dose or be in pain and have withdrawls
I am 50 yrs old, and have been on suboxone for 8 straight years, about 6mg per day. This drug is worse than crystal or coke because of the PAWS. Today is day 20 of being clean. I made the mistake of quitting cold turkey, instead of tapering down. But money was an issue, so I had no choice. To quit cold, it put me in the hospital for 4 days, and today, day 20, I still have PAWS. Restless leg, and Insomnia. I did return back to work last night for the first time. I fear I might have done some permanent brain damage because of the long usage.
I'm getting ready to wean off in a cpl months n I'm worried too. In the beginning i took 12 mgs a day but felt it was too much n usually only took four to eight mg a day but after a year n cpl month I'm prescribed eight mg a day but now it feels like i crave it. But yeah i'm worried about getting less n less then none at all. Any advice??
sweet n salty, i felt some stuff like that too at first and still have some strange side effects still. I always feel spacey, can't think as clear. It sucks cuz I've already been proud of my witiness. lol, how long u been on it now?
Hi withdrawal from suboxone is a b****. Am watching my partner going through hell coming off it. He's been 2/3 months off it and symptoms are no better after being on suboxone for 3 years. He's lost his willpower n motivation to do anything.
They say in my natural healing book, that Amino Acids are the key. That Tyrosine helps rebuild the neurotransmitters in the brain, and that the Tryptophan helps lift the depression after a few weeks of being on it 3 times a day. The key is the Tyrosine, so it says. Again, Ive only been on these for 2 days, and am on day 26 of being clean, after 8 straight years on 6mg of suboxone a day. Its been the worst 26 days of my 50 year life.
Your story is awesome, azumpire! Hope when the time comes I have enough self will and strength to rid myself of all these toxins too! BTW, anytime I came off anything I sneezed like it was high pollen season too. Can you give me the details about coming off it? I'm currently weaning but my finances may not support the subs and appts plus with this great new Obamacare instead of paying next to nothing for insurance, we'll be paying 300 a month, so that plus payment associated with my subs equals 700.00 a month....ikr. But yeah, I'd like to hear about your experience in case I have to go through it too :/
Im tired of the hope and change as well, unfortunately we are mandated to purchase insurance if offered through our employer. We're paying nothing, then under Obamacare, five dollars a week which was still great for anthem. Now starting with the 300 a month. Yay...thanks for the advice though, I'm going to keep all that in mind! I've only been on about fifteen months now and should be done before the minimum of two years. I've been into holistic treatment since I was a teenager and avoided most western medicines and it served me well until I became addicted to prescription opiates. I've always found chamomile tea helped a lot with the anxiety, restlessness and sleep deprivation. Try a cup a day, it's proven to assist in mood swing and depression treatment, which most of us suffer from anyway and even worse when trying to remove these substances from our bodies.
I was just referring to blue crosd anthem, but good news I just found out that work is actually picking up the costs so FREAKING YAAAY. A lot less to worry about now. Sleeplessness was always the worse coming down...especially since all you really want to do is sleep through the withdrawals. .. Keep us updated about your progress. I would love if you posted the exact stuff you took and why, it would help a lot of us out! Did you do any detoxing to try and speed it out of your system at all??
My husband has been on suboxone for 2 years and had to start taking testosterone because it was tanking his levels. Good luck!
8 years? You are the first person Ive seen on the internet that has been on suboxone as long as I was. 8 years of suppressing your brains neurotransmitters "can" cause a nuclear change in the function of the way your brain operates. Not saying this is the case with everyone, but it was enough to scare me straight again.
I received a 21 page report document from a doctor in Florida, regarding the long term effects of suboxone, and if you would like to read it, you can email me at {edited for privacy}. As for me, tomorrow is 60 days clean, and I cannot tell you how great I feel. Hopefully you can be back to that state again one day soon.
