I have been on suboxone now for just under a month. I think it is an amazing drug, i have had no cravings or interest in returning to opiates, my drug of choice was oxy. I get up every day feeling happy, and am able to take on what ever the day brings me. I am also on lexapro for depression at this time. There is one problem after i take my dose, which is 8 mg. twice a day, I am extremely tired sometimes to the point where if i sit down I will nod off, so I keep moving and can usually fight through it. I am wondering do other people feel this way or does it get better the longer you are on it? Two other things that are sometimes very bothersome are dizzyness and extreme dry mouth. I just wanted to find out other peoples experiences. Thanx

Been on Sub for 2.5 months now....i am prescribed 2.5 8mg pills per day, but on my own, i have NEVER gone over 2 and now i am only taking 1.5 pill a day - no big noticeable change. i work on a computer all day and do find myself nodding off as well - it's just due to the opiate effex of the sub. one thing i do wanna say: WE SHOULD ALL BE PROUD OF OURSELVES TO BE WHERE WE ARE NOW! CONGRATULATIONS ALL! We have overcome something HUGE in our lives and found help and we're functioning citizens and contribute our share to society. KUDOS TO ALL! GOD BLESS!

your body's telling you you're taking too much. more than 8mg i get grumpy, legs feel heavy, very tired, and zero sex drive. cut the 8mg pill into (4) 2mg's pieces, and take a little piece only when you feel withdrawals. you'll feel better and your body will thank you.

Please read some of the blogs from people who are trying to get off suboxone. You will hear horror stories. You think suboxone is great right now but you will be shocked when you try to stop taking it. Withdrawal doesn't start for a whole week because of the long half life and is much worse than opioid withdrawal and much longer. There is no medication available for suboxone withdrawal. Suboxone is for opioid withdrawal and should only be given for one or two weeks. It should not be taken for longer than that. You will get hooked and it is expensive. Thats the idea behind giving suboxone long term. TO GET YOU HOOKED. Lots of money for the doctors and drug company. Lots of greif for you. I can say this from experience. I thought I was going to die. It would have been better to take opioids and use suboxone for the withdrawal after having spine surgery than what I went through after taking suboxone for nine months. I have been off suboxone for three months and am just now starting to feel like I'm going survive suboxone withdrawal.

I have been on Suboxone for 2 months now, and its the best thing thats happend to me in a long time. I take 8mg. a day and i feel normal again, i had forgot what normal really felt like. I got hurt at work 2 years ago and the first thing the Dr. did was put me on pain pills, i was 42 years old at that time, i had never had to be put on pain pills before and i didn't know what i was getting myself into. Those pills cost me everything i had ever worked for and everything i ever wanted or loved, they cost me my marriage, my home and almost my life. Thank God for the Dr. that i have now, he listened to me and knew i wanted and needed help, he put me on suboxone and he saved my life. I don't have any side effects of suboxone thank god, i'm just so glad to be on my way to recovery. God bless you all.

I've been on suboxone for two years and only take 2mg twice a day. If you take more than that you will get horrible side effects. I would use up to 3 80mg oxy's a day and started with 2mg of sub. a day. For some reason alot of doctors overperscribe sub's.

Ive been a heroin addict for 10yrs.and i take subs 2/daily 8mg. i feel normal to. i also catch myself nodding out if i dont keep busy, but its normal. Ur body will adjust, mine did, im just worried about getting off tha subs. i fear withdrawl symptons again. any suggestions?

I am also on suboxen therapy....it saved my life.... but my question is would takeing xanex as directed.along with suboxen ..can it hurt me in anyway?

The suboxone has worked great for me, but ive came down from 12mg a day to 1mg(half of a 2mg) my last dose was 24hrs ago how will my withdrawls be? anyone know

Oh ....yes!! thank go, I thought I was going crazy about the total nod-off during my dosing! It is so weird! but then I feel great after about 10 minutes after it dissolves. Sub has saved my life; I was taking 2o NOrcos/day and horribly addicted. Deep, dark secret for a gal like me....I was able to find a great doctor and I take 16 mgs sub/day. Besides this dosing nod-off, this pill is great for me. Good luck everyone!

Christine I wnat to know about your withdraw. I am trying really hard to kick this saboxone habit. I am actually buying them off the street for 10$ a piece. I am only taking 1/4 of a tab so its way cheaper than going to the doctor. I paid the doc visit 175$ plus the scrip 145$ insurance di not pay nothing. I have tried to just stop the 1/4 pill and after 2 days I totally lose it. The withdrawl is so much worse than when I was on 20 vic es daily.

Hey yea I get the same nod as you, it starts about an hour after i take my sub. If I keep moving or if I'm doing something i dont notice it but as soon as I sit I start to nod off. I'm thinking this is normal our bodies will most likely build up a tolerance to it as I'm only on my fourth day of medication. The nod is very similair to when I would do oxys which were my d.o.c. I really don't mind it though it's quite nostalgic. My doctor put me on 8 mg 3 times a day from shooting up 120-160 mg oxy's once or twice daily so I dont think the dose is too strong as it kills my withdrawals and i have absolutely no cravings for pills at all.

Suboxone contains the active ingredient Buprenorphine and it is an OPIATE, so you will experience similar side effects as those caused by other narcotics.

These may include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Id like to post a reply to the folks who post negative comments about Suboxone.I myself was addicted to Norco for about a yr & a half before I finally came to my senses. I found a dr. at an urgent care center about 4 miles from my home who dealt with the Suboxone program.He wasnt just some dr. looking to bank on the Suboxone treatment train. He was highly knowledgeable & made it clear that his intentions were to lead me through the induction phase with 1-2 weeks of maintence, or weaning off. I was also to be drug tested every week at my visit.Im lucky to have insurance so I pay $25 for the visit & $40 for 30 Sub.pills.A far cry from him making a fortune on me.Ive currently been on Suboxone for appx.3 weeks & it really HAS been a miracle. Ive gone from taking 16gmg. a day to the current dosage of 8mg.Within 3 weeks. Ive had some constipation & some sleepyness but nothing thats unbearable.Im sharing MY experience.Im certainly not blaming the drug or advising people not to use this.That is absurd because from what ive read about & experienced regarding this drug, its worked wonders! I knew there were risks coming into this but I had 2 choices,trying this out or death. Good luck everyone & please, follow YOUR gut instinct. Dont go strictly by others opinions & experiences.

Your feeling ok because suboxone has opiate in them...I fell for the whole Suboxone is a agreat drug also...Its not at all..I mean really all your doing is substituting one bad habit for another..Its like covering up a major injury with a band aid..First off when I started taking subs I got severe twitching..Like I would out of nowhere jump out of my skin..Doctor said it wasnt the sub but I know my body and it didnt do it before taking the subs..Second, I gained 45 lbs and Ive always been a very thin person ..And third, I had no desire to do anything..I worked because I had to and then the rest of the time I layed on the couch and didnt want to do anything..especially have sex..And suboxone is VERY addicting..Coming off subs..Very horrible..I tapered down to like 1-2 mil grams and the doctor said I shouldnt really get that bad of withdraws..BULLCHIT..It was just as bad as coming off opiates and it last 10 times longer...I got SEVERE hives..broke out so bad I had to go to the emergency room..They tried to say it wasnt from the subs..AGAIN, I know my body and I knew it was from the subs with draw ..I still have itching and sneezing 3 weeks later, although not as bad...I had extreme anxiety and a knot in my chest ( and heartburn ) for ever..couldnt sleep, restless legs, aches all over, couldnt eat ( which is a good thing cause i gained so much weight while on the subs )..Talk about depressed and hopeless..Im still 3 weeks later and I feel emotionally drained and sad...I would have never taking suboxone if I would have known the full affects of this drug..My advice is..Dont take it unless its a life or death situation...And I agree..I believe their making so much money off suboxone they want people to stay on it...What do they care..Horrible drug...Good luck

I don't agree with who said If you take more than 2mg, you are being prescribed too much.
Doctors certified to prescribe subs have a very strict withdrawal score system they use to determine what they feel will be enough to help you, without giving too much. No one will ever be able to predict before you try it, if you will have side effects until once you are taking that dose.

It comes in different strengths for a reason. Even if people are on the same dose, everyone will feel differenlty, everyone's body reacts different. I have been on Suboxone, and I take 24mg a day...the highest dose. I resent anyone saying this is being overprescribed.

I was given that amount because I was a very heavy user. It works perfect for me, and I NEVER get tired, or even feel slightly sleepy, at all.

So just remember that everyone will have a different expeerience.

What is important, is that for YOU...that you are taking enough to be able to not have cravings, and be able to not feel withdrawal symptoms. If those 2 things are achieved, and you aren't having bothersome side effects, then you are fine. You ould always ask your Doc to try a lower dose, but you would have to see if that dose would ALSO be as effective in treating your w/d and urge to use. Good luck everyone, life is great and we all deserve to recover and feel proud.

Hey so Im 27 year old ex dope/pill junkie. When I was 18 in 03 and in my first detox I was given suboxone for heroin withdrawls. I was started on maintenance doses of 8mg of suboxone and for years would see my doc and fill my scripts. I would get kicked off the subs from my doc for failing drops. So I went back and forth in and out of jail rehabs and then finally prison...all chasing my next iv heroin dose. Im about 14 miles away from the loop in the northwest suburbs of chicago. I never had problems with suboxone being expensive,, 20 dollars with my fathers insurance for whatever script my doc had given me for..1 week to 1 month. The high you get from suboxone is great for the first 2 weeks. Then you build a tolerance. It also works great for inbetween doses of your opiate of choice. When you are trying to be a functioning high class citizen. So after completely detoxing cold turkey off suboxone about 4 to 5 times after being on steady 8mg doses for 3-7 months at atime. You are unable to sleep, will get restless legs..but at 8mg the withdrawl should not be to bad if you take advantage of healthy diet and excercise and flushing your system with juices, water, and supplements. I have never weined myself down correctly, more or less would be using and would get short stints of sobriety with subs maintenance. I am fully clean however and am currently takin 8mg a day. Go to the doctor and get yourself checked out after being out on the benders..you could prolly be sick with baterial infections from lack of care. I know i have had mrsa, and an affected immune system from complete failure of composure of proper diet. I am healthy young guy, escaped luckily from death or serious disease. Sucks having to cram cellophanes of dope up your a** when you see 50,,an bein paranoid of gettin popped to get a fix.. cause your f***in a retard slammin dope straight reckless thinking you are under control. OT IT NEVER WINS> DOPE CANNOT BE UNDERSTATED AS POSITVIE EFFECT. it is the worst drug you can possibly do along with prolong use of any opiod..we are not even receptive to actual emotion feeling or care in a mutual understanding between domestic individual. Tis wrong to effect dose of impurity to your brain, not a skilled move of rush from opiate. I am sober but I am takinag sub 8mg.

Rate of relapse declines the longer you remain on subutext. That's the good news. The more troubling reality is that as soon as you start to drop below 2 mg a day, you begin to experience acute withdrawal symptoms-similar to any opiate withdrawal. Eventually you will need to bite the bullet. Consider a very slow staggered tapper from 2 to 1.75 to 1.5, to 1, to .5 to .25. You need time, and even then you may feel withdrawal symptoms for a period of time (7 to 10 days). There are medications that can help get you over that period. Corona dine is one. Work with your MD. There's no magic cure. But, there is hope. Don't believe all the horror stories. It's tough, but achievable. One patient was brilliant and honest enough to write that at the end of his tappering stages, just licking the pill would help. I took that advice and it helped. Stop kicking the can down the road. Find 7 days in your schedule. Expect to be bed ridden. Do it. Move on. You can and will bounce back. God bless and use your insight to help those close to you who may fall victim to opiate inferno. You know so much. Use your power of knowledge.

There's a difference between addicted and dependent. Yep, you absolutely WILL become dependent on subs. Just like you'll become dependent on your anti depressant, your beta blocker, your blood pressure meds etc etc. that's just a fact with medicine that you take daily for any extended period. You will NOT find yourself chasing it, ruining your life, risking your home, your freedom, your family etc etc like an addict would. That's a very significant difference.

Now, like all medicine that your body becomes dependent on a longer, slower taper is reccomebded to avoid withdrawal symptoms. This is no different than wellbutrin, or Prozac or many many other meds. The fact of the matter is addiction is a disease- sometimes you have to look at the consequences of NOT treating the disease. If you had high blood pressure, or cholesterol, or even depression, you'd take your pill every morning. Sure, if you suddenly stopped you'd withdrawal, but why would you stop if it worked? Same thing with suboxone

I started treatment today, I had to take one 2mg pill wait and see the Dr and then take another 2mg pill. When I saw the Dr again I told him that I felt Ok, it was kind of like I was high. About an hour later I was throwing up. I know it's a side affect does it help to take this with food?
