I need to know of any side effects that may occur while taking this medication.

I started taking Bactrim about 9 days ago have 6 more days to go before being finished. In the time I have taken the meds I have had blood blisters in my mouth and just now experiencing a light rash. Have been extremely tired as well. Nausea is once in awhile but tolerable and I have not lost my appetite.

Overall not too happy with this although it could be worse from the replies I see on here. I just took Benedryl so I'm hoping it works and I can tough out the next few days.

Judi, omg that is awful that they used this drug on your dog. When I had a reaction to the drug, I went to the ER and they gave me a prednisone shot and a prescription for it, and told me to take benedryl every day for a week. It seems like the rash lasted a couple of weeks.

OMG tried a new vet he put my little 50lb dog (Chow Chow), on Bactrim for 20 days half of a 960 mg pill twice a day, for a allergic reaction to something and an infection on his skin. After 16 days on this drug my dog is deathly sick could not get up, stand or walk on this morning (day 17) at all until about 12 hours after he last dosage. He could barely pick his head up this morning. So I looked up side effects to this bactrim/tribrissenand 960mg it seems he is suffering from what's called lameness, ( Lameness is a clinical sign of a more severe disorder that results in a disturbance in the gait and the ability to move the body about, typically in response to pain, injury, or abnormal anatomy.)

This drug should be removed from the market poor Mr. Tyson Tycoon was paralyzed for at least 6 hours that I know of. But I gave him the pill right before bed so who knows. He may have been paralyzed all night while we sleep. When he was finally able to get up he would fall over...... horrible drug!

I remember the last few days ..day 16, 15 & maybe 14 his hind end kind of fell out from under him when he was running around. I didn't give it much thought until the night before...which was the night of the 16th day. When, about 30-45 minutes after taking his pills he could not stand up right and was falling an stumbling like he was drunk!!!

Now today day 17 over14 hours after the last pill I get him, he can stand a bit on his own & walk around, but only for like 5-10 minutes then he falls over!!!!

Does anyone know how long before this horribly dangerous drug will take to wear off him?

Hi Josh, It took 3-4 weeks to get the effects of Bactrim out of my system. And there may be some effects that last longer....like aches and pains....mood swings....tiredness. But they do go away. Exercise and vitamin/probiotic supplements help. Do drink lots of water. Eat right and get plenty of sleep. Be sure to tell your doctor about your effects of taking Bactrim and avoid taking it again!

Thanks for your input at least I will try and wait it out.

before this I worked out daily and was competitive power lifter/bodybuilder.
From that to struggling to do anything sucks.

Josh, nobody knows how long it will last for you. For me it was 3-4 weeks the best thing I did was started chugging water (excessively) and taking probiotics and vitamins (since I wasn't very hungry.) I noticed exercise helped, even though I had no energy... Maybe it helps sweat it out? Idk. I thought I would never feel better, but I did. Just try to take care if yourself.

I took bactrim ds for a bladder infection. I finished my last dose 3 days ago and still feel the symptoms. I have major muscle weakness. Been taking probiotics to get back the good bacteria. any experience something similar and how long before it's finished ?

Hi my name is Lynda, about a week ago I went to the hospital to have a procedure done. The doctor asked me was I allergic to any medications, I told I,m yes I was allergic to sulfa. The next day I went to pick up my prescription, the doctor gave me bactrim,I took it the next day, it said take one tablet twice a day. I took one tablet. I went about my day, on my way back home I started to feel my mouth starting to swell, I knew exactly what was going on because this has happened to me before. By the end of the day my mouth was swelled. The next day I had an appointment to see my doctor. When I went there I showed her the medicine the doctor gave, it was bactrim, she said did I tell the doctor that I was allergic to sulfa? Because bactrim has sulfa in it. I yes he ask me was I allergic to anything and I told him yes I was allergic to sulfa. She told me to stop taking the medicine, which I did. My question to you is can I sue the doctor, because I told him I was allergic to sulfa, and he gave me a medication with sulfa in it. My mouth is messed up because of it. It take a year for my mouth to heal the last time, now I don,t know how long it,s going to take now. Do you think it was negligence on the doctor,s side? I hope to get a reply back soon thank you.

I was taking this for 10 days....the first time i took one pill, everything started....I got a really bad headache, becane even more sensitive to light and sound, and i couldnt walk, due to shaking and numbness....Its been nearly two months now, and the only difference is that Im not shaking as much

Hi Sue,
Read through the posts and you will see there are some bad side effects. I recommend not taking Bactrim. Talk to your doctor about taking something else. Batrim is not worth the pain. Just my opinion.

I took bactrim for a nail infection ( bar rot) for a week. The day after I stopped taking it I got a bad metal taste in my mouth and my skin broke out in red spots (arms,legs, belly, not face) went to cvs pharmacy told me to take Benadryl. Knocked me out and rash did not go away. Took 2 more Benadryl and spots look better. Might go back to dr. tomorrow if not all gone. Nightmare. Never take bactrim again. Never had allergies in my life or reaction like this!!!!! Horrible drug if was free at publix, but I would rather pay for something safer. Not itchy just rash

Yes, I believe Bactrim causes the tingling you speak of. I have Diabetic Neuropathy (tingling and numbness in my feet and hands) and was prescribed Bactrim for a prostate infection. My neuropathy was actually improving to the point it was not bothersome. I tried to tell my doctor that I can't tolerate quinalones (CIPRO) or sulpha drugs (Bactrim), but he refused to change my prescription to Doxycycline which I have taken many times over the years with success. He told me if I did not take the Bactrim, he would put me on Cipro. In a few days, my Neuropathy was so severe I could barely walk. My feet and hands hurt and had stabbing pains, my skin burned, I itched everywhere, my joints hurt and I felt really terrible. I also could not sleep and my mental moods were up and down. I felt like my mind was all foggy. I took Bactrim for 15 days. I was suppose to take it for 21 days....but I could not handle it anymore so I quit. I stopped the Bactrim about 5 days ago and still feel bad with all the bad symptoms. I am hoping the after effects will get better. I will never take Bactrim again and I am looking for a new doctor! Bactrim is dangerous. There are other antibiotics that are effective besides Bactrim! Like some of you, I will contact the FDA.

Has anyone had tingling hands and arms from taking Bactrim? I took one pill and within 3 hours I had arms and hands tingling and over all rush of feeling really bad I stopped after the 1st dose and I am wondering a little over 24 hours and I am still tingling

This is a horrible medicine I took my first dose and woke you in the middle of the night with my face itching like crazy but I just ignored it I took another just a ehile ago nd I have bumps all over my neck and im itching and im having cramps! I am not satified

I experience the same symptoms after taking bactrium for a minor staph infection fever, chills, pounding headache, rash that was like a sunburn, so weak I could barely get out of bed for two days, vomiting and itchy all over. I told the doctor of these symptoms on the 5th day of taking and I went back for a post check to make sure my infection was healing and she put me back on the same antibiotic telling me if it was an allergic reaction I would know immediately this time around!!! wow I thought I was going to die!!

I have a bladder infection and they gave me Bactrim. I am very sensitive to medication and just after 2 doses I became severely nauseous, dizzy, hives, and had a spell of depression. This is by far the worst drug I have ever taken. I thought I was losing my mind so reading everyone's posts made me feel better. I stopped taking this of course. Does anyone know how long it remains in your system?!

I just went thru the exact same thing. Just got off it today. Head hurts so bad when I cough feels like my head is going to exploded. Plus I had a respiratory infection same time. And was given a tetnus shot with the whooping cough vaccine at the same time as I had been bit by a dog. Had reaction to that too. I also had horrible stomach pain as I have a hernia and was constipated for 5 days even after taking 3 laxatives. Its sad when you ho to the doctor anymore and within 24hrs you are worse and think you are dying. Ugh thanks to everybody who posts on here. It helps people like me to know its not just me and helps you get answers.
