I need to know of any side effects that may occur while taking this medication.

I know they were having issues keeping her heart rate high enough, it was real low. She had to have a defibrillator installed Friday. She had Stevens Johns syndrome from the Bactrim. It will make your body burn from the inside out, she had sinew skin damage and internal damage. She had to have cell therapy. She only been home for a day so I haven't been able to see her yet. And I don't think they really know the full extent and how long the damage may last. When I learn more I will update.

I have being going thru hell for the last three days. Horrible experience. Took bacterium for uti this was worst then the infection. Laid up for 3 days. I just want it to end, had one pill left and so not taking it wish I thought if this 2 days ago. I just want to be normal again.

I cut my leg at the gym and it ended up getting infected with staph. My doctor put me on Bactrim for 2 weeks. No side effects that I know of. However, the infection returned even worse. He put me back on Bactrim for another 4 weeks. Still no side effects like the ones I'm seeing here. But then, after about 2 weeks of the second round, hives appeared. They are on my throat, neck, upper chest and oddly on my wrist. I'm not allergic to sulfa drugs so I think that probably cut out a lot of the side effects...but I'm going to try Benedryl now to see if I can get rid of these annoying red, itchy, scaly patches. Thanks for the advice. I had an old tube of ciclopriox and have been putting that on them but it just makes them more shiny...so that didn't work. best of luck to you all.

Well it has been a total of 18 days since I took my last dose of Bactrim, and I only too 2 pills. My side effects have been anxiety, depression and INSOMNIA. The anxiety and depression seemed to pass about 8 or 9 days ago. The insomnia however has not let up at ALL. I take 25mg Benadryl and 2.5mg melatonin every night and that'll get me around 3 or 4 hours of sleep then I'll wake up for a little while and maybe get 1 more hour. I keep reading everywhere that this should let up in 3 to 4 weeks but after 18 days of this every single night I'm not sure. I guess I just need to be happy that I get any sleep and that the anxiety and depression are gone. I truly hope I can serve as a success story on here soon, but for now I'm going to keep waiting and praying for a good nights sleep.

This describes my symptoms to a T. I am 47, female and healthy, average weight, do not smoke or drink. I should bounce back quick right? Well a week later the aches and hives have faded but I still do not feel normal and keep having a hell of a headache everyday. Wondering when my appetite will return, been depressed too, I also take benedryl to help sleep. Over all improvement, but wow this stuff is poison!

I was prescribed Keflex for a UTI. I didn't like the side effects like itchy eyes and gi upset but it was tolerable for the 5 days it was prescribed but didn't seem to be helping. I got a call on day 5 saying the strain of bacteria I had was resitent to Keflefx.
It took that long to get the culture back because it was a holiday weekend. So I was prescribed Bactrim. I took one and within 15 minutes my face and chest were bright red, itching and burning. I went immediately to urgent care where they agreed it was from the Bactrim. Gave me prednisone and benedryl. I am on my second day of prednisone with little improvement. They were hopeful that the prednisone and benedryl prevented a worse reaction. I have many allergies and cannot take any of the oral antibiotics for this strain of bacteria so I now have to go to get a shot of ciftriaxone for three days. So far no problem with it. They instructed me to add bactrim and sulfa to my allergy list. I guess it works well for some people but seems to cause allergic reactions in many.

Sounds like you have a Bactrim allergy. Stop taking the Bactrim and call your Physician. I would take Benadryl for the itching.

So I went to the doc this morning and they said i did have an allergic reaction to bactrim. They gave me a Cortizone shot and steroids. They said if it's not better by tomorrow to go to the ER. I have noticed my face seems to be getting better but my rash is starting to itch where as before it was just on fire. Feels like a bad sunburn

Did it start on your shins? I took one dose and just on my shins i have two red spots one the size of a hand the other the size of a golf ball. They feel like a sunburn.

Could take months, perhaps years. No real clear info from the medical community that I can find. I took it over a month ago and still suffering. Watery eyes, dizziness, mouth sores and a giant red patch on my back which is going away, albeit very slowly. I only went to an urgent care and was prescribed prednisone.

Mine is all of a sudden my breathing is just terrible and I'm so weak in my legs I can barely stand up now after I've been on the generic for 7 days. It has scared me to death. I will not take another one. I will see if this stops. I hope you are better. Let me know.

Sandy, yes I had insomnia too among a host of other things my biggest concern being peripheral neuropathy.

I had similar issue. I took 1 dose of bactrim DS and within hours my tongue and throat were swelling. And i developed hypoglycemia. Its been 7 days since i took that one terrible pill and my blood sugar continues to drop quickly and i get severe panic attacks that i didnt have before. Im hoping these symptoms subside soon!

I had a severe allergic reaction to Bactrim. I took my first dose. Within 30 minutes my head felt like it was going to explode, my heart rate was thumping, rash, hard to breathe, Felt like I was going to pass out & my blood pressure went from 120/70 to 205/154!!! My husband had to call the emergency squad. Never will I ever take that again.

I received same side effects. Constant nausea. Every evening I get peripheral neuropathy symptoms. This is day 5 and I woke up with a very stiff neck. I'm going to stop taking this.

Not a doctor, but I had peripheral neuropathy, pain that moved around throughout my body, and a stiff neck. It was Lyme disease. I tested negative, but once I received a copy of the western blot I saw I had 4 markers (must need 5 to be CDC positive) Skipped the Neuro/Rhumotologist recommendation from my doc and went straight to the Lyme specialist and after being treated for almost 3 months on antibiotics I am doing so much better (still on them). Trust your gut and just because one doctor says no, or doesn't have an answer doesn't mean you should stop until you find one who does.

I took Bactrim for a cut in my toe. I went to the doctor because I was getting ready to travel overseas and I wanted to be sure I didn't get an infection. I didnt finish the prescribed course because I developed hives, agitation, and insomnia. In a few days I began to get very sore. The pain got progressively worse so that I could hardly move. I couldn't bend down, roll over, or perform basic mobility functions. One morning I could not walk on one leg and went to the emergency room. There was denial of any effect due to Bactrim. My doctor, however, listened to my complaints and did not rule out Bactrim as the cause. However, she did test me for rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. I began to get better very slowly after a couple of months. The pain slowly disappeared from my extremities and then other areas. Interestingly my hands and feet were not affected. She checked my levels of CRP and at the time my pain was the worst when these levels were the highest. I saw her about every two weeks and as I got better I told her the CRP levels were likely down. This was shown to be true over multiple visits. Trust your own judgement as you know your body best. My doctor ultimately listed me as being allergic to bactrim. I would have claimed this anyway on my medical history had she not done this. I believe that I have a residual effect of my experience. I had shoulder surgery a few months after the reaction began and with this I had a nerve block to decrease pain. I have had continual problems with my hand since then. My fingers stayed swollen and I could not bend them for almost a year. The hand doctor said that my nerves had not relaxed. I dont know if I will always have this problem but my hand is not normal.
