Refilling My Valid Xanax Prescription Early (Page 9) (Top voted first)

Updated

I only see one doctor and he gives me a 3 month supply of xanax. When I went the last time he wrote me out a prescription but I still had two refills. I had a friend and her husband passed away and I gave her some of mine thinking I would have no problem re-filling the prescription. I had sense enough not to go to the same pharmacy and not to give my insurance information. So I go to this small drug store by my house and I had to fill out paperwork such as dob, name and my DL #. Well they paged me to the front of the store and advised me that it was 7 days to early for them to re-fill. So my question is where can I go to re-fill a prescription that is valid written by the same doctor. I only tried one place, I'm guessing they must have a data base if you try and refill your prescription early (even without your insurance) does anyone have advice on where I can go to get this filled?

North Carolina is not allowed under Federal Law to fill a controlled medicine 7 days before it expires. Sure it happens, even my Insurance pays after 75% of the refill is used up, but you can't say an entire State violates Federal Law?

Florida isn't messing around. Glad I got out alive!

Possession of Xanax in Florida
“Florida law requires that your driver's license be suspended for two years upon conviction.”-- Richard Hornsby
Xanax is the trade name for Alprazolam, which is listed as a Schedule IV drug in Florida. And it is a Third Degree Felony to possess any amount of Xanax (even one pill) w/ out a prescription.

And because of the serious consequences for such a simple crime, it is important to know the:
•Penalties for Xanax Possession and
•Defenses to Xanax Possession.

Penalties for Xanax Possession

If convicted of possession of Xanax, you could receive any combination of the following penalties:
•Five years of being subject to supervision,
•Five years in prison, or
•A fine of up to a $5,000.

Driver's License Suspension

Finally, your Florida driver's license will be suspended for two years upon conviction if you are adjudicated guilty by the court.

Well I'm still a little confused, but hope it all works out for you! I used to count my Xanax, and now Its by the bottle, with Bars. I had never seen a Bar before my doctor doubled my 1 mg dose to 2 mg. He was my attending Hospital Doctor and knew at least what happened to me. Now I few years later I have collected the extras. Wish it all was gone, but that didn't happen yet.

IN the old days, (before about 1990 or so) you could have gotten away with that. In fact many drug-seeking, doctor-shoppers DID. Now, with computerized everything, pharmacies are required by laws that carry stiff penalties (such as loss of licence) if they to not vet a dropped off script against the NATIONAL database that EVERY pharmacy licensed to fill scripts in the US and sometimes outside of it.

And less you think "they're too busy" to do that, beware that it's now automatic. When they enter the request into their computer system it automatically does it for them. The pharmacy tech will be provided EVERY instance you filled a script for that medication. Even if written by different doctors. The record is part of YOUR medical history complete with date, time Pharmacy location, license # etc of every FILLED script as well as everytime the script was presented and denied.

Much like an inquiry to your credit report which notates it everytime someone accesses the record—even if it' you.

The database pharmacists are required to subscribe to, goes even further and can identify unusual patterns such as using a differnet pharmacy everytime.

I found that out when my normal pharmacy did not have any Adderall in stock. (It's a drug often on back order). So I tried another location of this pharmacy chain and they were out too. I spent hours bouncing between pharmacies even outside of that franchise. Eventually, I found one that had it in stock, but the pharmacist came to the drive through window and told me the insurance company wouldn't allow it noting thew unusual activity.

And even if you think you will just pay out of pocket, by-passing the insurance, forget it.

There are a couple options. You can request a vacation pass in which case, if you are going out of town for a holiday, the pharmacist can, at his/her discretion) allow it filled a couple days early. This option is available only once a year and often considers if there will be a pharmacy in that area, then tell you to fill it there while on vacation.

OPTION #2 is similar, but depends on how well the pharmacy staff knows you. If you fill your scripts at a single pharmacy, they may choose to fill a new script up to about 3-5 days

PS: Don't forget, Big Brother REQUIRES every American to have health insurance

LOOK up narcotics listings on your browser. Vicoden, xanax ritalin, adderall, oxycontin, ambian, ativan, klonopin, are all narcotics. benzodiazapines are narcotics. the list of narcotics goes on and on. doesn't matter what schedule either.

I have been on Xanax for years. I just returned from my doctor who informed me that due to the Lazarus Project, started at Duke University, doctors are now only allowed to write prescriptions for Xanax for 10 days max. Those are her words. I am trying to find out additional information. The Lazarus Project info I found is on children with autism. Does anyone have any information where I can begin to look for more information on this. The procedure for getting people off Xanax I have already been through numerous times over my life time. I am 48 and finally after years of being dragged through crap I had finally gotten things under control and was working on rebuilding my life. I have been told by doctors in the past that because I have been on Xanax for so long, I will probably have to remain on it for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, because we all now have to move around for jobs ect., I have had to change doctors numerous times. I am scared and sad and to tell someone who has chronic anxiety that she has to start all over again seems to me to be counter intuitive to the medical objective. When I asked my doctor for information she became very hostile and treated me like I was asking inappropriate questions. Does anyone have any information on where I can start doing research?

That's what happened to me today. I use 2 pharmacies. One for my covered Medicaid prescriptions & one that I pay cash for since I was told 2 weren't covered, I was told a few years back that my insurance didn't cover my psych meds (Xanax 2mg 3x day, which I have weaned myself down to only 2mg a day & Ambien 10mg at bedtime). My cousin took my meds to the VERY SAME pharmacy that's been taking my money for years today & they're telling me that they ARE covered by my insurance & since they didn't accept MA, they refused to fill it and complained that I was using another pharmacy to fill my other medications, which I explained the situation to the pharmacist why I was doing so & she was very nasty. I do not abuse my medications, I never fill them early either (well, more than 3 days early because I'm limited in transportation). I suffer from a broken femur & have had depression/anxiety issues since I was a teenager. That's fine, I have no problem taking them all to one pharmacy, but WHY were they taking my money for years when obviously they should have told me before I spent money on these medications?? And I've been thru benzo withdrawal & it's horrible, I even had a grand mal seizure back in 2005 when I moved to another state. Very scary, hence the reason for getting myself off of Xanax.

I've been on Xanax for probably about 12 years or so now. I'm prescribed 120 bars a month (so one 2mg pill 4 times a day) and that is the most my doctor will prescribe. I made the mistake of once it wasn't working as well just buying more from other places or people and got up to taking almost 12(some days much more) bars a day and even one less and I'd start feeling withdrawal. Over the last year and a half I have been trying to cut down with my goal for now being to just get back to what I'm prescribed. I'm down by 4 whole pills to 8 a day but it's still double what I should be taking. I know I'll be able to meet my goal in another year or so but I wish I was never given a benzo from the start. I've tried taking klonopin to help cut down and it does give me a longer time in between before needing my next Xanax but I couldn't imaging replacing them. You did great getting off of these things though and wish I could do the same.

I won't even attempt anymore Thank God I dont have to I have a few extra at EOM as far as Karla goes when i went to detox that is exactly what they did to me off zanex immediately and klonopin. Its better because it sty in your system longer. I think its stronger so you need less. It willstill prevent you from WD's Im still having a very tough time getting under 1mg however Good luck

Joe I agree I saw my doctor yesterday because I cant get below 1 mg and feel like sh*t & I cant sleep ! Im up every night all night and wake up about 8 830 all drowsy and foggy . This is a problem because i have to return to work in 2 weeks and ive been like this for at least 4 weeks. He told me to not taper any more and stay at 1 mg or a little more if i needed it. A dentist who is in my IOP tells me he has been off completely for over 30 days and is a miserable mess . He detoxed from zanex & subs He was physically shaking yesterday like alcohol WD's in class and feels like his skin is crawling and and is just lives in a fog. They gave him NO meds a after detox. His wife gives him some zanex when he starts to have panic attacks because of it. I gave him e a 1/2 mg that i had with me for back up and he rallied enough to make the rest of the day, He had asked to see a doctor when he walked in the door but none where available. The guy OBVIOUSLY needs something I dont know why the doctor wont se him he has been asking everyday. I know everyone is different but i def felt better on zanex but i abused it so I cant go back to that . Today i just take my 1mg split between am & pm I hope it gets better so i can go back to work. Ive been out for almost 2.5 months I cant go back in a fog ! I was supposed to be totally off them No way i could do that in 60 days at least not me Drugs Suck Esp Benzo's No one would touch them if they knew how bad the end was .... no one . Its amazing how some Dr's just write the scripts for them like nothing and then people realize they are trapped and its to late

Right on John' I asked for early refill for diazapam (1 week early) and was denied by CVS. I asked for 7 pills untill I could refill whole RX & again no, per CVS. Yes, it's my bad, but honestly it's not like I'm asking for crack. It's 5 MG of diazepam. My coping skills are at a low. And now stars the withdrawl. Great.
