Refilling My Valid Xanax Prescription Early (Page 10)

Updated

I only see one doctor and he gives me a 3 month supply of xanax. When I went the last time he wrote me out a prescription but I still had two refills. I had a friend and her husband passed away and I gave her some of mine thinking I would have no problem re-filling the prescription. I had sense enough not to go to the same pharmacy and not to give my insurance information. So I go to this small drug store by my house and I had to fill out paperwork such as dob, name and my DL #. Well they paged me to the front of the store and advised me that it was 7 days to early for them to re-fill. So my question is where can I go to re-fill a prescription that is valid written by the same doctor. I only tried one place, I'm guessing they must have a data base if you try and refill your prescription early (even without your insurance) does anyone have advice on where I can go to get this filled?

Walgreen is what should be refereed to as (medication police) and someone ought to pick up the damn ball on behalf of everyone and start taking legal action!

When you go into their pharmacy ... where they now have all the data in front of them on when and where you received your last medication .... it should be illegal for them to deny you medication when you have your prescription in hand and are not trying to fill it early ... but that is exactly what they do!

I used them for years .... probably very close to 20 years and all of a sudden they would not fill my prescriptions for pain medication!

I went though hell trying to find another pharmacy here in Florida that would fill for me! After moving out of Orlando to Ocala ... I no longer had the problems that I was having in Orlando. I ended up in ER on a regular basis while livin in Orlando and had to be admitted to the hospital a few times because I could not get my pain medications.

Unfortunately I have an implanted morphine pump which had a problem and they could no longer put medication in it! Why Walgreen's was then allowed to deny me medication that was prescribed to me by my doctor .... still bothers me and to be honest I worry about this same thing happening again. Part of this problem is from our DEA who has doctors scared to write medications and in turn seems to have lawyers scared to pick up the ball and run with it for those of us that need this type of medication~ and have been denied them by their (NO LONGER TRUSTED PHARMACY ... WALGREEN)

You can get your Rx a week early at CVS Pharmacy's. But smaller pharmacy's are a little anal about filling them early.

To Eddy
Very wise to collect what is necessary. Gives one a sense of control at the end of the thirty days in case of the pharmacy that is "out", or otherwise will not fill your script. Many folks do the same thing by having backup meds, with their pain meds or otherwise with schedule II, III, or even IV.

As Xanax works on your mind and having to chase the refill every 30 days or so, it has helped me now take less. Much like our marijuana stores, now that they are there I have stopped, let the kids buy it up. I will say the only way I was able to obtain a collection was continuing to see the Doctor who save my life in the Hospital and he tripled my dose. No way would I take that amount, thus the extra supply. Thanks for your kind words!

Sorry, but you're wrong. I know in Florida, there is a LAW in effect that requires ALL pharmacies to input into the system what prescription you got filled, the date, the amount, the Dr who prescribed it and other personal info - and it must be put into the data base within a certain amount of time. I believe either by the end of that day or earlier. I know this for a fact. My daughter in law works in a pharmacy (Target). I wasn't sure, so I researched extensively in the Fl Statutes.
.
Therefore, even if you go to a different pharmacy, they MUST look you up in the data base. They stand a major loss by not doing so. They also will not fill early (earlier than 'maybe' 3 days). Unfortunately, All this info is available to anyone who has access to that particular data base.

Why didn't you check the imprint code. Then bring it back and tell them you want s different brand. You don't have to accept the generic company. I refuse Actavis and make them give me Greenstone or Watson if they still have Watsond left over. Otherwise I make them supplement the percocet or roxicet. Se drug just different name. Plus they are medicinally stronger.

How do you make your pharmacy "supplement" your Percocet or Roxicet? Many pharmacies buy in bulk and don't carry other generic brands in the event you don't like their pills?

Roxicet is generic and most pharmacies carry both Roxicet generic and Percocet Generic. You do not have to take what the pharmacy gives you. You are allowed to request a different company and if they do not carry it they must order it for you.

#184 pattycakes. I had the same problem. I moved from orlando to Ocala as well this year after being in orlando for 16 years. I only get xanax and tramadol RX though. But I found a easier doctor the first one I tried in Ocala.

For everyone else I have a question. Does anyone have a link for the laws for refills on controlled substances? And also I filled my meds june 3rd I usually ask 3 days early but does it go by my fill date or date I run out? Technically id be out on the 2nd. So I would count 3 days before the 2nd or 3rd? Or just count 27 days forward from date filled as that would be 90% of my script gone. Also I heard they put in the system each time you ask for an early refill does this give me a red flag? I have a friend who fills oxycodone 3 days early every month for 15 years. He said they look at it as a convenient issue so he doesnt run out.

Until you understand the trauma nurses experience and experience on a daily basis go f*** off. How dare you judge what you don't know.

One should NEVER exceed half a mg of xanax. daily---- For special circumstances I would say 1mg. These doctors prescribing such high doses are only hurting their patients and getting them addicted, and ultimately causing themselves more trouble. If you have panic disorder take this advice---

do not overdo your medicine. Do not seek higher doses. Taper your usage, and take the drug responsibly. Anything you abuse, will abuse you, and anything over a milligram a day is quite frankly abuse.. (been taking benzos for two years at .5 twice a day and have had over 1000 panic attacks)

.5 a day BenzoSheriff? That might be fine for you but you have had over 1000 panic attacks. Sounds like you need more Xanax, not less? I like some of the things you say though!

I don't mean to be rude but it's people like you doing things like this that makes it difficult for people like me with the GAD (that doesn't give my pills to people) to get the medication I need when I need it for the anxiety issues I have.

Xanax or alprazolam is a controlled substance and a serious drug that can affect the way the brain functions. I would never, I repeat NEVER give my medication to anyone else. If a friend is freaking out or you think they might need help you should give them your doctors number...not your medicine. This medication comes with serious risks, among them seizures. You can become addicted to the medication if you take it longer than one week. Also, It is against the law to give a 'controlled substance' to another person they are not prescribed for. This medicine deals with the gamma receptors in the brain there by if you do not have a chemical brain issue then you should not be taking it.

It is not meant for dealing with stress or loss. For that I suggest caff free camomile tea, chocolate ice cream, or just time around friends and hugs. If she needs treatment for loss there are church communities that can be of great help, grief counseling centers, or even seeking counseling on her own or in a group counseling session. If someone needs this kind of medication that decision should always come with a diagnosis by a trained professional, followed by 'treatment options' and then under a doctors watchful care.

If you can't seem to get it refilled it is likely too soon to have it refilled. There are rules and laws with the drug that you should google. Also if you have it refilled somewhere where you normally don't you will be labeled drug seeking and blackballed from being able to get this medication in the future. It will put you on a list that is released to pharmacies, doctors and hospitals.

Each time someone does something like this it makes it harder for responsible people that need this medication for treatment to be able to get it.

BenzoSheriff, I doubt your definition of a panic attack is that of ones who suffer from severe anxiety and panic attacks on a daily basis. .5mg is a very low dose and while I agree it is one of the most common benzo's to become quickly addicted too due to its rapid release it only last about 4hrs in your system. When you have a panic attack that cripples you to the point you rather kill yourself that deal with the very REAL physical symptoms then I'm sure you will find .5mg not being adequate. Also not every person metabolizes the drug the same. I was on 12mg of IR Xanax for years until the drug started having a rebound effect which was putting me in withdrawal like symptoms. I was weened off slowly and placed on Klonopin which I now take 8mg daily. I do not absorb 8mg at each dose though due to malabsorption problems. I have one the top psychiatrist in the state of NY and was also left on the medication during my pregnancy because my anxiety and attacks where more detrimental to my unborn child than the class D drug. I was switched back to Xanax the first 20 weeks then my regular dose of Klonopin for the duration of my pregnancy. I was under strict supervision by both my psychiatrist and high risk OBGYN. Guess what? My daughter was NOT born positive at all for the drug, she did not suffer any deformities or delays. I didn't break the drug down fast enough for it to even be passed through the placenta to her. So don't come on acting like a Benzo Nazi and you think you know everything because apparently you don't. I think it is safe to say I trust my doctor over a d***** bag know it all.

Dear East Side; I am sorry that I did not see your message earlier but was extremely happy that I found it none the less. I have some serious issues and over the past 15 years of pain management have not encountered the problems that I did in Orlando and although I hate to smile at a pharmacist who refuses to fill or refill a prescription until the very day it is due, I smile and tell them that I or my gentleman friend will come back tomorrow. This is against my grain and believe in not only telling the truth but being told the truth. I know that a pharmacist can fill or refill a prescription up to 3 days early however we have pharmacy gods that for whatever reason make it much harder on those of us with disabilities than it has to be. I do not know why this has been left up to the pharmacist but that is exactly what the deal is although most will lie and tell you that they are unable to fill it early. I know for a fact that the medication can be dispersed up to 3 days early because my daughter happens to be a pharmacist and explained what the deal is. My pharmacist here in Ocala has refused to fill my scrips until the very day that it is due. However because of all the problems that I went through in Orlando, I have decided it is in my best interest to just go along with the pharmacist who now seem to be warming up to me since I have never argued and simply came back or in most instances sent my boyfriend back like they have asked. They may actually be warming up to me because this month they filled my prescription for me one day early. It might not sound like a major win but I think that they have now gained some trust in me as have the doctors that I started seeing when I moved here. One thing to remember is that trust is one of those things that is earned over a period of time... in almost every situation.

Now I know that I could have changed pharmacies but the pharmacy which is filling for me now on the very day that my medication is due has never left me without my medication in the 7 months that I have been with them. I would hate to change pharmacies and find that what I got was a pharmacist which was unable to fill for me every month.

I do have a problem this month.. my father is turning 100 years old at the end of the month and as you can imagine there is a big celebration planned. I will not be able to make it if I can not get a solution to my medication issues. As it is I will run out of medication 3 days before I return home. I am going to make a phone call or maybe even go into the pharmacy which I am now known at and talk to the pharmacist about what they might suggest. If I can not get any help there, I will call my insurance company and my doctor and see what can be figured out. I would be able to show that I still have enough medication to last the remainder of my 30 days and when I leave for the celebration I will only have 4 days of medication left. I would be happy if I could get 3 or 4 days of medication for the trip if they were unable to get me medication for the full month 4 days early ... There was a time however when we could get medication early ... for this very reason but it seems that this is another thing that they are turning us down for now. I know that you can not share.. even your email address on here but have heard that we can supply the moderator with permission to share our email addresses with someone in particular and they will honor your request. I would love to give you my email address and get to know you a little better and maybe be able to help each other when we come across a problem. If you would be up to this, please let me know and I will find out how it is done. God bless you and I hope you are having an easier time getting your medication a little early since no one should have to wait till the day they need medication before they can get it filled. Much Love... Ms. Patty

your doctor can call in up to 5 days in a controlled substance to any pharmacy, so if you will be away and will be due to fill while away, he can either call it in or give you a post dated script to bring with you. Odd are the will call to confirm if it is in another state so you should be ok. Pharmacies are also allowed to do emergency overrides to fill the script earlier than normal due to certain circumstance, so it is something to discuss with your doctor

Ij22 that's not your decision to make. I understand people are suffering but they need to go to a doctor and get the help they need. It's not your job to give your medication out because of issues they are dealing with. If they have this chronic problem you claim then there is no reason a legitimate compassionate doctor will prescribe what they need. It sounds like you have an addict friend who got you blinded and all caught up in feeling bad for them. God forbid they have an adverse reaction to whatever you give them or take to much and die, guess who is responsible? YOU and you will catch a manslaughter charge even if you had no intent to cause any harm. Let him go buy the stuff rather than putting you in the position. He doesn't care about you if he's asking for your medication.

It becomes awful when you yourself run out of medication because you gave it to someone you felt was in need of it and now can not get a refill. It becomes awful when you are sued because the medication that you gave to someone killed them because of an interaction or something else. It becomes more awful when the law becomes involved and see's the issue as manslaughter or something equally as bad or worse.

I do see your point however and can sympathize with you and the person going through a rough time. I would guess that most people are guilty of giving away a pill to someone for whatever reason however I do not think that to many would give a handful of them to someone. I once gave some medication to my husband who was sitting on the toilet in tears because pain had come on suddenly and made it where he was unable to even get up. I called 911 for assistance for him and had an ambulance dispatched. When they got there, I told them what I had given him so that they would be aware of it. I do not have a stone cold heart as I have been through some things that I would not wish on my worst enemy ... such as when a drunk driver hit me head on while I was 8 and 1/2 months pregnant with my first baby. Among many serious injuries, it caused a complete abruption of my placenta which caused the death of my baby and almost cost me mine as well. I do not think that I come even close to having a cold heart but believe it is important to have a level head when being compassionate!
This is not meant to make you feel bad as I can see you feel how you handle something like this is the right thing do. I have written it as something to think about and nothing more
Much Love and I hope this day finds you in little or no pain!.
