Rash After Quitting Lyrica (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I took Lyrica (150mg daily) for 2 years. The medicine helped reduce my leg and hip gain greatly. In January I started working out daily and dieting and lost 30 pounds. I gradually have quit taking Lyrica and am having only a small amount of discomfort at times. The problem is that upon quitting the Lyrica the back of my knees started itching and welps appeared after I scratched them. It has been 3 weeks since I stopped taking Lyrica and I am still itchy. Has this happened to anyone else? Could this be a result of nerve damage?

My rash started while on the medication, but have it all over my body, and it looks like scabs. I have stopped the meds, the rash has cleared up a little bit, but I am still itchy all over and it's been two weeks since I've stopped, please get back to me if you know there is anything I can take to stop the rash, its horrible, embarrasing, and gross. It started though in my elbows, then backs of knees, then all over.

I have been taking Lyrica for 3-4 years. My neurloigist put me on it for painful neurothapy in my feet coming from a injured nerve during back surgery. I started having a rash behind my knees about 3 months ago with welps, then it started a rash on my elbows, stomach, hands, arms
and now it's all over and my arms are so getting scared from all the scratching. If I misspell any words, I can't think clearly right now. That comes from the Lyrica. We laugh when I can't get my words out but this rash is driving me insane. My MD said yesterday he does not feel it is coming from Lyrica and he has put me one a second Prednizone 14 pack. I had to stop going to my specialist 2 years ago when we could no longer afford insurance. The first pack did make the rash go away but this time it hasn't done as well. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I've only taken 4 of the 75 mg pills and got a rash on my neck and chest. It burns and itches. Then I started itching all over. Everywhere! And I thought the headache, dizziness, and nausea were bad. Lyrica was the next thing to try after Cymbalta, which made me suicidal (and I'm not!), and Elavil-which doesn't work! It's so frustrating when all the side effects are so bad/scary! I am done with Lyrica for sure! This itching is awful!

Hi - was prescribed Lyrica about 3 months ago - everything fine for the first month and then my clothes became uncomfortable to wear (felt like glass particles were digging into me) then I started to itch on and off. I stopped taking Lyrica about a week ago and I am still itching (sometimes with hives) my skin is prickling and I feel lousy. How long will this last - have tried antihistamines and e45 for itchy skin - no relief though!! Help!!

marconua, has your itching finally subsided? I just started to wean off Lyrica and my itching is much worse now that I'm on lower dose. How long after quitting Lyrica will this itching last? I'm feeling so miserable! Itching is unbearable.

I have been on lyrica for 10 months for Arthritis in my SI joints, I was told this is all I can have for the pain & during this time I have spent most of my days feeling down & very lethargic loss of memory no concentration. I have now been to a pain clinic at another hospital who has offered to help me with more injections & other stuff, the doc said ditch the lyrica cos that's an awful drug, I'm on my 5th day off the pills & I feel CRAP! Headaches, itchy, vomiting, serious withdrawals, I'm still in bed as I feel like I have flu. If you have other choices stay well away from this drug I've never felt so unwell from taking a drug to stopping it.

Hi Louise,

My reply is not good, but everyone is different. I am still having the rash on my back. It has decreased from the rest of my body, but still remains on the small of my back.

This has been going out since October 2011. Kenalog shots helped but never got rid of it. I would have to get a shot every ten days... I have since quit the shots and just deal with it. I tell anyone never take this drug as the rash is not worth the pain relief it gives you! God luck, hope your reaction is shot lived!

I too have the rash. It started just above my elbow 5 months ago. The ER and the dermatologist were no help.
Now it is on top of both elbows, the back of my head, behind my Knee. and under my left breast. I am only taking 75mgs daily. The rashes returned about 3 week after the 3rd round of steroids. We should all inform Pfizer to put this in their ads.

Help!! I'm reducing pregabalin and have been by 25mg per week for the last month. I feel awful, mainly severe anxiety and a burning sensation on my chest and down my arms. Has anyone else experienced this? I had anxiety before going on the drug, in fact it was supposed to help but never did. This is nothing like anxiety I have ever experienced before. My husband will not accept this could be withdrawal. What does anyone think? Many thanks, Allotmentgirl

I stopped taking Lyrica when I ran out and had to wait until my pharmacy got it in, which took 4 days! I didn't get the rash like feeling people are talking about but I did get hit with this horrible nauseas feeling everyday and it was horrible. Lyrica has helped significantly with my nerve pain and I only take 1 150mg pill a day! I was stunned. I will be speaking to my doctor about this at my next appointment.

I have just started itching and getting a rash all over my right leg. I have been put 250mg a day of Lyrica and have been taking them two weeks for nerve damage after getting pain injections in my spine. The rash is driving me mad and my leg feels like it is burning. After seeing everyone elses' experience with Lyrica, i will be weening myself off them.

I have been on lyrica 300 mg q day for a number of years . I have fibromyalgia and have had 3 back surgeries. I do feel it has helped my pain but has caused weight gain. My Dr d c'd the lyrica "cold turkey". I have had hot flashes/ chills, nausea, acne, itchy irritated eyes, shakes & weakness, inability to sleep more than a hour a night , and almost the worst is intense itching from the top of my head to the soles of my feet. At this point I think I will go back on the lyrica and wean down instead of stopping cold turkey. I so hope the itching stops SOON.

I took lyrica 75 mg for a week. In 2 days after taking it I developed a horrible rash. Was told to stop taking it immediatly. Had welts on face, unbearable itching, rash on legs, back, arms and chest. It stopped after about 2 weeks. Now, every few weeks to a month the rash comes back, itching is unbearable, welts are becoming more frequent and extremly painful, feels like glass shards are in my clothing or in certain blankets. Now it feels like my glands under my arm are swollen and painful. Will this ever end. Nothing has helped. My stomach is also distended. Worse drug I have ever been perscribed.

Thank you so much for the good news. I have begun weaning off the Lyrica and shall report back once I'm off. How wonderful for you that you are feeling better, finally! Keep your fingers crossed for me too.
