Prolia Side Effects Ongoing (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I had my infusion Mar 4 2015. I have experienced severe stomach pains, leg pains that wake me up at night, a horrible dry cough, near migraine type headaches, very severe weakness, trouble walking, constipation, had to have dental work that I usually have great teeth, some trouble sleeping. My rheumatologist did nothing to try to help me with the symptoms but my primary doctor gave me medication that help with the stomach pains, take Excedrin for Migraines and enteric aspirin for back and body, and other meds to try and find some comfort. I'm somewhat better than the few weeks after the infusion but still have a lot of problems. Hopefully this doesn't last for 6 months.

I never had pain, the tenderness and the growth of bone on my eye socket began two months after the first shot. It accelerated with weeks of the second shot. It got real tender after taking another bone med and at that point I have refused all bone meds. I was on Boniva IV for 3.5 years when I turned gently and fractured my spine in 5 places. No Bone meds for me...pain or no pain.

I took this prolia shot on 2-19-2016. After about 3-4 days I started having pain in my legs across my hips, in my legs that ran up my spine, in hands, arms, shoulders. Affected my mouth, had sores in my mouth inside and out. Teeth were sore to touch, tooth loss, had 2 root canals within 6 weeks. Had abscess form on jaw bones. Still having trouble with teeth. Knots popped out on elbows, every joint hurt. Stomach sickness. Threw up for 2 days, went to the doctor & had a bad kidney infection, bleeding under the skin, headaches affected my left ear, sores pop out on arms, some bleed, weight gain, losing my hair, my balance was off so bad I fell and stuck a potato digger into my leg 6” went to wound clinic for 6 weeks...My balance is still off so bad some days I hold onto cabinets to get around in the kitchen and lean on the wall to get around the other rooms. I may have to lose all bottom teeth, lost so much bone & will need implants to hold dentures. My insurance wont pay. So the dentist is trying to save my teeth by doing a root canal to see if it will help tighten and hold my teeth. I was in good health prior to this & just had a checkup where my dr. said I can’t find anything wrong with you. Then I took the prolia shot and it nearly killed me. Still having some of the side effects. If this is ever brought to court, count me in, this needs to be stopped. What was bad also was that no doctor would talk to me about it. They refused to say this prolia shot could be at fault.

Salt us - Cal Mag with zinc and Vitamin D 500 ml - is this is good or I have to add a tablets of magnesium 200 mg (Lorna
I feel my fingers, hands and toes numbness. spine and neck muscle stiff sometimes, is this connected to next of mag and vitamin D3
Thank you for your help.

Hi again Denise~I don't mind being bothered at all. When I first took Prolia my heart was very erratic and my primary sent me to the heart docs. I wore a monitor for 24 hours and it didn't act up at all. I also had an echo cardiogram. With me, it was a temporary thing but I do know that Amgen has written that Prolia causes heart problems -- probably by going after a muscle in there as it LOVES to attack our muscles as that is the only place in our bodies we can store any calcium or it could cause an infection in there too. Go back to Amgen's website and check the heart issue. It's a medical word that I'm not recalling at the present -- it begins with an e. Be well~Pood

Not sure this is actually a reply - I'm hurried with everything between resting. Next week - surgery on parathyroid and thyroid in Tampa. Prolia? Maybe. At least a rapid worsening IF it were pre-existing. Thing is the doctor was still trying to push Prolia on me, now Reclast. Which I believe is Prolia's evil cousin, having even higher percentage of death per thousand patients. Both these drugs under another name are being used to treat cancer. So, next week I will be in surgery for parathyroid and thyroid. Writing this to caution those of us who have been on Prolia, please research the symptoms of parathyroid tumors and also thyroid nodules. One of the nodules on my thyroid looks like "malignancy." I'm not scared, too battle scarred for that, BUT - all these symptoms came after Prolia. Personally, (not substantiated) I believe that Prolia exacerbated any condition that may have been slow or dormant, waiting for the right conditions to blow. So I have been sidetracked from searching for Attorneys, litigation, or otherwise. Will post again a while after surgery. One thing I am sure of, anyone with pre-existing autoimmune issues should NOT take Prolia! Many of the symptoms we were told would be fixed by Prolia (and Reclast) are those of tumors on the parathyroid which are messing with our hormones and body chemistry, and these are any easy fix. Very rare for the parathyroid to be cancer. However, the tumors and overload they cause on the system can create cancer and will if one doesn't die first of hyperglycemia. Have learned a lot on this journey. So, over and out, and may all find healing and relief from the awful thing! I believe Poodle has more info on tumors, etc.....from Prolia. AND if your doctor won't listen, don't give up, keep researching and find a supportive doctor!!! Or even better, doctors!!!

I have a similar list of lingering symptoms from Prolia. My single shot was January 2016 and I am approaching my 1 year post Prolia benchmark. I have come down with IBS with diareah, copd which is now improved, sjogrens, muscle and bone pain, muscle weakness, chronic fatigue, mouth sores and skin, hair & nail issues. Approaching year 1 I am feeling better than months 1-6. I too, find it hard to believe everything will go away... I'm exhausted and hardly recognize my life... worst thing I ever did- with support and confidence of 2 doctors - was Prolia.

Re: Janet (# 151) Expand Referenced Message

Can you tell me how many infusions you had? Or how long you were on that crap "medicine"? My wife was taking Fosamax, (bisphophonate drug) for two months, and was having pain in ankles, knees, and hips. They talked us into an infusion of Prolia, another (bisphophonate drug) in May of 2017. My GOD, the woman went to the ground. Swollen ankles the size of a softball, swollen knees, back pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, had to buy her a cane. I had to help her walk, depression, loss of appetite, loss of smell, and taste. This is Oct. 2017, the inflammation on the ankles are gone, so is the pain, inflammation around the knees are gone, mild pain, but the pain in the hips, and back have now moved to the shoulder and upper arms. Two months ago, we rushed her to the ER we thought she was having a heart attack. It wasn't, now it appears it's effected her Thyroid. Will never ever have another injection of that crap.

So sorry to hear what you are going through. I had two injections..six months apart. After about a year the bone tumor stopped growing. But I dare not take another bone med as the tumor flares up.

Hi...I am so glad your wife has you to love and support her through all of this... you are amazing! Thank you for what you do...I took oral osteo rxs for 3 or 4 months. They too made me sick with too much acid reflux and just overall poor health. I was told Prolia would be better tolerated by my body... hmmmmm... that didn't quite work out for me... I have the chest tightness, inflamed jibs, headache, rashes, mouth sores, loose and weak muscles, bone and muscle pain, uti, bleeding kidney, gluten intolerance, diarrhea, rapid weight gain, Sogreyns syndrome... hair loss and bad nails... and more... all the best to you both...

It's been 6 months now from my wife's first Prolia shot. The inflammation at the Ankles, Knees, Neck and Face are finally subsiding. She's still has the loss of taste and smell. Through our research, (no thanks to any Dr.). We found the issue with taste related to a drop in Zinc. For the last month, she is taking 5K UI of liquid Vitamin D. Also 100 UI of zinc, and and product called Jarrow Formulas, Bone-up. 4 of those a day. Her ability to walk without the cane is amazing, also, pain is almost gone on the ankles, knees, shoulders and rib area. The Capillary bleeding in the forearms is subsiding as well. We've managed to halt the loss of weight (35#) since the shot. Forcing her to eat. We will never take that shot and are researching a local attorney to sue Amgen. As she has a compromised immune system, and they never warned us, the side effects could be worse with that condition.

Re: teddt (# 168) Expand Referenced Message

I understand from my rheumy that there may be a suit against the manufacturers. Info being gathered now. It will focus on the many victims who have developed tumors made of bone and located under the tongue on lower palate. My tumor (because it is over my eye and bridge of my nose will not be included as it is in "the wrong place" to present a unified claim.) But I don't care about that...just get these bone meds off the market. I had two Prolia infusions in 2014 and still have extreme tenderness in the bone tumor it created over my eye —whenever I take any calcium supplements the tenderness returns. The greatest relief I have found comes from hyaluronic acid. I take 400 mg a day and have seen a market benefit.

I have been diagnosed with Epithelial asthma which is directly related to the drug reaction I had from Prolia. Since Prolia alters you immune system it negatively enhances any condition you already have associated to your immune system. It is a nightmare.

Carcinoma (skin cancer) - nice Prolia! What a lovely side effect. Glad they caught it soon. You will probably require more antibiotics than when not having Prolia. Please report this one to Amgen and the FDA, if appropriate. It is listed as one of the side effects but you are the first in all the Prolia threads -I don't know how many posters since 2011 to have this one. Since one happened, I think I would get checked often as it could possibly come back. Best to you and BE WELL!! Pood

On one of the Prolia threads here, there is one lady who had zero problems. How many Prolia threads do we have going on this site -- maybe 5! Also one lady in Australia had no problems. Apparently a few people can tolerate this poison.

I also filed a report with NIH. This is a dangerous drug and should be taken off the market.
