Prolia Side Effects (Page 65) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
Re: Lois (# 2700)
I had about 7 shots and had side effects almost immediately but my GP said that my aching jaw was neuralgia so I allowed him to give me more. We changed medicos twice more and when I said i wanted to stop, the response was always 'Do you want to suffer a hip fracture?' It has been over a year since my last shot and I still have an aching jaw, sore thigh bones and peripheral neuropathy which is really bad at night. I don't think I will ever be free of the damage. Also, I have never had thyroid problems but for over a year now it has been discovered that I have hypothyroidism which may or may not have been present earlier.
What is so frustrating is that we have no power against the "Big Boys".
All I can do is spread the word. Anytime I hear of someone taking Prolia, I urge them to search this site.
I wish I hadn't let my emotions rule my mind and accept what I was told by a Dr. in whom I had faith and trust. Truthfully, I doubt he meant harm, he accepted the word of the drug company.

Just now starting with the jaw/teeth problems.. jaw is painful and beginning to pop and crack. Also now have a parathyroid problem. Parathyroid might not be related to Prolia, but the jaw and teeth probably are. I have always exercised good dental hygiene so I am discouraged by this potential expensive disaster...

Yes...it may not be his or her direct intention to cause harm....However, they prescribe medication they don't even have a clue how they work in our bodies....and I think this is criminal! Considering that medication that is wrongly prescribed can kill you--ie. without taking into consideration the medical history of their patients--their prescribing whatever without knowing what it is, would be like policemen pulling the trigger not knowing what their guns do...
Re: Lizzie (# 2722)
They don't want to admit that they have given you something so harmful. Even Amgen Australia admits that these can be side effects but their comment that they are very rare defies explanation in light of the fact that there are 1000s of patients complaining of the same problems that are being experienced with Prolia
Re: Lizzie (# 2725)
Thanks, Lizzie. I guess I was so hoping that I would have a permanent tooth by now. We are leaving in a few days for a week in the Dominican Republic at a 5-star resort which we have never done before. I have great difficulty eating with the “flipper” in, and this resort has 9 restaurants to choose from. This will probably be our last holiday as my husband has been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s and it is getting increasingly difficult for him(and me!) to deal with traveling and adjusting to a new surrounding. All I can hope for is that when we get back and I see the oral surgeon she will give the OK for the crown! So sorry about your hair. I too had some hair loss due to an antidepressant but my hair stylist had me use a product from Italy that helped quite a bit. I also stopped the Wellbutrin and now things seem to have improved. I have also discovered that as we age, drugs that we had no problems with, start giving us side effects. It would be most encouraging if Amgen would listen to us and alert doctors that there, in fact, are real issues with a large number of people who have used prolia and only those who cannot tolerate other drugs, consider using it. And I mean CONSIDER. When I spoke to them I was told that they had had no one ever complain about any side effects! Of course, I’m in Canada and apparently we’re very polite people!!!
Re: Judy (# 2726)
But why don’t the Docs listen to us instead of just accepting Amgen’s word about side effects? Within 3 months of my first shot, I developed HypoCalcemia and Hyperparathyroidism. I saw three Docs who blew me off, despite the fact that HypoCalcemia is actually listed as a side effect, even in their magazine ads !!!!
It took going to another state to my previous physician who immediately order blood tests and I was severely deficient in calcium, a potentially life threatening situation. This Dr. is a Physiatrist and a Yoga master. If anyone is interested, he has an ongoing study, with good results of treating Osteoporosis with Yoga. His name is Dr. Loren Fishman in New York City.
Re: Lizzie (# 2728)
Thanks, Lizzie. It’s going to be a challenge considering my husband's situation, but maybe I’ll be surprised! Sure beats the cold weather we’ve been having here!
Re: Judy (# 2726)
I'm sure Amgen bend the truth which is a sad thing to have to say. H in Australia it's the same story. They will admit to side effects but say that they are very rare...tell me about it.
Re: Judy (# 2726)
At the risk of being unkind Judy I would say that Amgen lied. Amgem Aust do the same thing
Re: Marginot (# 2734)
I am not sure if I can help from living in Canada but with my horrific experience I would join a class action at a drop of a hat just to put the pharma company in the news etc. They did not even do their clinical trials properly. The other guilty parties are the FDA and Health Canada for approving this poison for this type of use.

I cannot believe all the people hat have had these reactions. My mouth feels terrible too and of course my eyes. I will certainly let you know when I speak with the lawyer.

Maybe something exists to get it out. I have to believe this. Or at least simply waiting it out can be the answer? I keep searching for answers with alternative doctors. I've tried so many things now. Everything short of coffee enemas that were suggested for me. Will let you know if I ever find the answer.
Re: Lizzie (# 2753)
Lizzie, during my year of Prolia and in the following year I frequently experienced a sensation of being off-balance, and found myself concentrating hard whenever I went down steps. I was very scared walking down the front steps of the Sydney Opera House! I began to dread steps without a handrail. I occasionally took a slightly staggering step on a flat surface. There was no dizziness. Now I seem to have mostly recovered from this weird phenomenon.
I searched for any link between Prolia and balance issues or vertigo but found nothing then. Now it seems that others have had somewhat similar experiences whilst affected by Prolia. I searched again and found a journal article looking at links between osteoporosis itself and a condition called 'benign paroxysmal positional vertigo'. Loss of balance or unsteadiness can be symptoms.
It's all very peculiar.

Check out Save Our Bones. It is an excellent program of diet and exercise and information regarding Osteoporosis.,developed by a dietician. It is also educational, particularly regarding Big Pharma. She also has a program to help clear this poison out of our systems.. This program has made a difference in my life.

How long did it take for this sensation to go away? And how many injections had you had before you stopped with them? I had four injections and never went back for my fifth in October, so i am nearly 7 months clean. I think it all depends on how long we are on the prolia . They lie to us that it is out of our systems quickly. Maybe a person with only one injection with my symptoms will be rid of this strange phenomenon more quickly than someone like me, in whom it has built up over two years. The "moving sensation" did not hit me until after my 4th injection. perhaps it will take at least two years to go away. Along with that sensation, it affected my tongue first and and my lips. I think it's all related and am very curious to know if and when it might go away. Let me know if you also had mouth conditions with it! Also I never even had bone problems. I was on Prolia "for prevention of bone loss" only because I was on estrogen blockers. I am off estrogen blocker now, against my doctor's wishes and am eating VERY healthy and taking DIM and I Carbinole 3 for good estrogen benefits. these are things modern medicine does not support so I am having to seek council from those practicing alternative medicine. They all tell me "good" for going off Prolia. For those with real bone issues, I hope they can find guidance from alternative medicine.
Re: JenjiOz (# 2770)
wow, two whole years to get better after only two injections. I am praying god, let it be only two years for me after FOUR injections. Can I ask you how soon it took you to feel your first symptoms?I took till after the second injection to notice something and it was so slight, I did not put it all together until after the fourth one! Congratulations on getting better. Your story shows us there is hope. .Yes, I have been told by my alternative doctor to drink lots and lots of water( hard for me to do), eat LOTS of fiber, and do things like epsom salt baths and stream rooms. Maybe this stuff has helped me a bit. I don't know. I hope to undertake a very strict body cleanse soon and will let people know if it has any dramatic results. (one doctor told me to do coffee enemas. That one I never tried. haha)
Wanted to know if anyone got an autoimmune disease from taking Prolia?
Re: Andrea (# 2774)
I guest I am one of the lucky ones if you want to call it that. I had the severe reaction after my first injection. So I am in my 2 nd month post injection and every week some new adverse reaction surfaces. This week it is extreme back pain, leg and ankle pain and severe fatigue again. My asthma which was well controlled pre-Prolia is now causing me great grief. I get angry every day that I did not ask enough questions and trusted the specialist. Never again and if they thought I was a difficult patient before??. I thank everyone for sharing as it gives me a release also. For my stomach issues I started drinking Kefir and though awful tasting it actually helps.
Re: Verwon (# 1)
I have been suffering with side effects and adverse reaction since my one and only injection on March 7, 2019. I have had all the same symptoms as you and more. I ended up with angioedema of the face and much more. This is a horrible drug and I consider poison. Hope you do not have any further effects as this pharma company has no idea on the long term effects as they have not done any lonte clinical trials.
