Prolia Side Effects (Page 64) (Top voted first)

Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Re: Elaine (# 2656) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Elaine. I had my last injection a year ago but it’s strange that so many things have happened to my skin. First I had terrible hives last year and since then I have more broken veins and moles appeared on my face. It’s very strange. Do you think the prolia was linked? My consultant won’t give me any more and my last scan showed that my osteoporosis is now ostopeana. I just walk all I can and eat oily fish etc

I had 1 Prolia Injection 5 years ago - when it first came out - and I had terrible side-affects that are still with me now - I had pain all over - and in my mouth I developed hard bone lumps where my tooth roots are, to this day I have pain when I go to the Dentist as it interferes with taking x-rays or any other work. The problem with this its an injection - unlike pills, that you can stop and the poison will leave in due time, but with injections - its stays on and one suffers.
No I have not had any more injections - and now I see TV ads for this Poison again.

I don't see the side effects we have posted here and reported... like hair loss, mouth infections, and others we have commiserated about.

Thank you for posting about your thyroid.. I have been really exhausted and gaining weight and had not thought to check my thyroid since the same med on the same dose has worked for years... I will check it.. I should have linked changes to possible prolia interference but did not.

I only just did !
I had attributed my symptoms to Prolia, but perhaps it was indirectly related by affecting my Thyroid. I will never know, but perhaps this is useful information
for others who are suffering.

Re: JenjiOz (# 2665) Expand Referenced Message

You are blessed My skin rashes persist with anything I put on my skin that isn't completely neutral such as shea butter or vit e oil ect. I still have periodic heat flashes that I never had before the prolia reaction. I have found that others have some lasting problems related to their worst side effects. Yes Hasimotos thyroiditis since mid 30's and the prolia reaction affected my stability. I found out that no one with an autoimmune disorder should ever take any medication made from a monoclonal body such as prolia.

True enough ! I have multiple auto immune conditions and they all exacerbated during Prolia, and some persist after more than one year after my last injection.

You’re right, Sal. And that’s what I do......spread the word to anyone I can. My daughters are also doing the same with their friends even though they’re not yet dealing with bone issues to the same degree that I and my peers are.

Did you ( or anyone else ) experience a crawling sensation in your scalp? It is like a weird tingling creeping all over my scalp.

Lizzie (# 2677) --

No, but I did have an itchy rash on my scalp that eventually spread to my forehead. The worst, as far as anything pertaining to skin are the sores and teeny blister- like bumps on the roof of my mouth that cause stinging when I eat certain foods. This, I’m afraid is still with me after being off prolia for 2 years! I’ve been to oral specialists, taken different drugs but nothing seems to have helped.

That is so awful that you became allergic to your beloved cat. It is bad enough that I am now allergic to some of my favorite foods, but if I had to give my cat away it would seem particularly cruel. It is very strange to develop new allergies in one's sixties or thereabouts. I think the causation is pretty clear. My new allergies include zippers, non-precious metal jewelry, elastic, soy sauce, and mushrooms. I'm gradually becoming OK with metals and may even be able to wear earrings again. We were definitely not given enough info about Prolia's side effects, which was utterly reprehensible. Just as bad, or even worse, is the fact that many of our prescribing doctors seemed genuinely unaware of its dark side due to Amgen's PR. I am furious that my life has been messed up so much. At least I have been awake for the last six months, unlike the previous year. That year of fifteen hour overnight sleeps plus daytime drowsiness was really destructive. I so hope these allergies of ours have time limits!

Actually there is a prescription one called Betaderm Scalp Lotion which my doctor gave me to use. It really helped. I’m in Canada but I’m sure it would be available in the US.

Thanks to both of you for the anti itch advice...Have a dr appt and will ask about both of those. I honestly think I may be experiencing some kind of Prolia withdrawal symptoms.. sounds strange but I did not take the shot that was due one month ago... rashes have broken out all over and am having eye problems as well... maybe odd things happen as it slowly backs out of my body..Just guessing..

To the OP: Your message is seven years old... I hope that the side effects of Prolia vanished over time. I was supposed to get the second shot 2 months ago and did not. Am hoping side effects (hair loss, uti's, gum diseases, overwhelming fatigue, etc) will alleviate. So far I am feeling better (more alert, less digestive issues), but still have gum problems and hair loss issues. If you still check this site, I would like to see how you are doing after all of these years off the drug. Thanks.

I too experienced hypocalcemia and hyperparathyroidism within months of my first shot. In addition I experienced numerous side effects.

It took about a year to lose those most of those negative effects, although some are permanent.

I join you in warning people not to
take this dangerous medication.

Re: Marion (# 2693) Expand Referenced Message

My hypocalcemia symptoms continued long after my lab tests were normal.

It seems they all minimize the side effects. In fact, when I did have hypocalcemia, 3 Dr.s blew me off. I went out of state to my previous Dr. who treats Osteo with Yoga; he was the one who diagnosed me.

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I am happy to hear that you are having no side effects from Prolia. As for me, it has been the most horrible drug I have ever had and I am still suffering from many of the side effects of the injections I had. I am going for an injection for my spine tomorrow, hoping this will help! Again, happy for you, but, as for me not so lucky. Prolia has been a nightmare for me personally! Good luck.
