Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

I had my one and only Prolia injection December 2015 and had lost 5 teeth and now in the middle of teeth implants. I am very upset and will never take this again. One dentist told me that the Prolia never totally gets out of your system.

I am a nurse and I have done all the things you stated. I just posted this so that other women DO NOT TAKE this shot. My mom list of side effects keeps growing. It is horrible. The doctor and the company has no answers how long they last. This med needs to be off the market.

I just phoned Amgen's helpline who I've spoken to before. All they could say was that they've heard of very few cases of side effects and that I should stop taking it!!!! Duh! They said it was unusual for side effects to start after a second or 3rd injection. Got the feeling they didn't believe me. I was also asked if it was a bone specialist who prescribed it. No, it was my gynocoligist ! Oh, it wasn't a bone specialist! Now I'm wondering if my Dr knows what she's doing!
In other words, I got no answers. Ladies, we're on our own!

Linda, I lost a molar just after my second injection and had never thought of the connection. I just recently had an infection in my front tooth which already had a root canal and a crown. I was on antibiotics and my wonderful dentist was able to save it! I did have to get another crown to the tune of $1350 but at least I have a tooth. He told be that it was caused by dry mouth which is the side effect of a drug! Well, there you go finally someone is being honest with me. My mouth is still dry and at great expense I'm seeing a specialist for that. This is after stopping Prolia after my last injection July, 2016!. If you are suffering from dry mouth try and get help for that. I tried Biotene but I needed something stronger. I was also on an antivirus but had to stop due to side effects! I phoned Amgen but all I got was that they were sorry that I was dealing with so much..They said they'd had so few complaints of side effects! I got very emotional and they said I needed to calm down and get some therapy to deal with my issues. I will now boycott any of their drugs and have told my family and friends to do the same. I even emailed one of our major newspapers but as yet have not heard back.. Sorry to hear about your teeth.i plants are very pricey.

Jeanne, I'll check with an attorney in our office Monday to see how to go about filing a suit. Know there could be lots of others won are wondering as well. Thx for your feedback.

Linda, at the cost of implants, I believe you should contact an attorney in your area and ask him/her if willing to go against Amgen Corp. on a split win. If you win, you get 60% and the attorney gets 40% but it actually works out that they get more than their 40% because you are charged for every phone call, stamp and piece of paper. You have a beyond excellent case. You may have to ask as many as ten-15 attorneys but you will find one that will do a great job for you. I would also put the Doctor that gave you the injection in as a party to the suit along with Amgen. Could be that Amgen really does not want to go to Court and would settle your case by mediation -- your attorney shows them your bills and they decide if they are going to pay your bills with the help of a Mediator who would push them to pay. He acts like a Judge. It's cheaper for Amgen to do mediation than to go to a full fledged court suit. Both sides have an attorney just like in Court but it is a much cheaper way to go. This way you don't get pain and suffering, etc. You just get your bills paid. If Amgen would happen to win, you pay nothing and your attorney receives nothing. Get out your phone book and start calling. Be well~Pood

Jan~do you get the same commercial with Blyth Danner (I think is her name). She made a TV mini-series in the last few years. 'It helped my bones". Every time I see it I think 'what a lie'. It may help your bones if you live through it. Then a guy comes on and starts giving some of the bad side effects of Prolia. ...just some, not all.

I truly wish my Celiac Disease would go into remission. I never knew I had it until Prolia was put in my body and it caused my DNA to come out of hiding.

I have been talking to a attorney that might start a class action. If this firm agrees I will post information

Dear Victim~It may not be too late for you. Check with an attorney in your area to find out what the Statute of Limitations is. You are still going through this and it reads as if the bottom teeth are a new issue. This would, therefore, give you the reason to go against Amgen on an individual basis. You call all the attorneys in the phone book and find one that will do a 40/60 split for you. You will get the 60 and the attorney gets the 40. Please read my previous post on how to do this as it is best done in Mediation, not Court. Yes, your oral surgeon was generous with you. When the bottoms go, you can get two implants to hold that partial in place. They also have use of cadaver bone to help rebuild your jaw once the infection is gone. I am so very sorry this happened to you and now after you stop the Prolia, your bones go back to pre-Prolia so you have gone through all of this for nothing. Doctors like to say Prolia builds up bone which it does, but it is not good bone. It shatters very easily so in essence Prolia builds up bad bone. Be well~Pood

The best thing about Med hat is that we all know that if us the prolia and not us--- regardless to what the doctor says... it dentist.... lawyer.... pharmacist... specialist... spouse.... children.., friend..., WE know from Sharii g with each other that it is and was and IS the prolia.

Therefore we take care of ourselves knowing what our body was before prolia and how it is now and how we hope it will return to be.

I was a healthier person with osteopenia and osteoporosis before Prolia. Next day I reacted to it and have been progressively sick from it. At 1 year I am finally returning back to a healthier individual.

Know it is not you- it's the prolia and stay your course to improved health as time passes..... hugs

Judy~yes, I believe you should go see this so-called Dr. that almost killed you and let her know what all happened to you and to tell her from now on READ the boxes that Prolia comes in. I'm sure if it's in the US, it's in Canada too. It will also make you feel better -- just getting it all out and dumped on that Doc. Just don't let her talk you into anything else. The only thing I have found that is safe is Calcitonin and Docs don't like it because it's cheap and old but it works. My mother used it and so do I. I would not even be the least bit polite either. Hugs~Pood

Thanks Pood for the "pep" talk. When I first told this doctor about the side effects I was having , she cut me off quite quickly and said she already knew what they were! That she dealt with the drug company! And yes , I will go back and tell her, itemizing what all the other Drs have done to help me get through all these side effects. Dentists, oral surgeons, rheumatologist, physiotherapist , dermatologist, and ,of course, my very supportive GP who referred me to these specialists. Not only the cost to my health, both medical and mental, but also the out of pocket costs which insurance did not cover. Oh yes, the needless worry that it played on my husband and children! I received none from her. Just a denial that Prolia was not the cause of my problems! This will also be my last appt with her.

Hi Judy: It's odd the guy at Amgen would say they didn't get many calls to complain about Prolia. Heck, their lawyers even have an ONJ and a special claims department. I understand since you are suffering, you want some validation. You won't be getting it from the maker of this drug. Just a guess, they can't comment on the amount of calls they are getting for legal reasons.

Let me start here by saying that I also have had years of problems with my one injection of Prolia. The hardest part was the pain, suffering and lack of information and conflicting information from doctors, and no guidance from Amgen.

Yes, I have written and called the FDA. Spoken to attorney's etc. Do we really have grounds for a class action law suit? Think about it, our doctors gave us a drug approved from the FDA. The warnings were listed on the enclosure. If an attorney picks up a case, the legal fees would probably cover any reward we would get from Amgen. To my knowledge, the FDA is not reviewing or retracing this drug. Maybe the next step is what was mentioned in a few posts below, to call an national investigative reporter? NY Times did an article June 6, 2016 on rare side effects of Osto drugs. In two days the comments numbered over 600 expressing others difficulty with these drugs.

Your thoughts?

Poodle, re the tooth decay under your crowns, I too had exactly the same problem . I have a crown on an upper front tooth that was infected. Fortunately with antibiotics , removing the crown and drilling away any decay he was able to save it. However I did have to get a new crown.
Today I was back to see a specialist in oral medicine re dry mouth and oral lesions(she once had been an assoc professor , dentistry , u of Florida) . She has put me on a different anti- viral to see if it helps as well as a thin mouth tray and mouth paste(MI Paste) which I'm to use at night. It's supposed to help dry mouth which of course was a big factor in tooth decay. For the first time I've actually had a medical person tell me that she has had quite a few patients who have been on Prolia deal with the same problems we are all dealing with. She even suggested I stop using it! As if I hadn't already!! She also suggested that I ask the pharmacist to check further side effects from the drug company as the print- outs we receive don't cover everything! Finally I feel validated! Now if only all these side effects would dissipate !! It's now been 8 months since my last shot. How much longer will this poison stay in my body?

Janet, it was 10 months after my Prolia to get my first implant. I had several teeth pulled today and needless to say, I am miserable.

Yeah. Palpitations. Also diagnosed with ulcers and one of the largest hiatal hernias the dr has seen he said. Has to be fixed as it presses on heart and also ulcers. Related to Prolia? We will see how many more report.

I am so so soooo sad for you! I know I am so upset about my dental problems. Loosing my teeth makes me feel like a failure. And ugly... and it's so exonive. I don't even know what the final look and $$$ will even be. Right now I have a bridge that failed and 4 problem crowns, maybe more. I've been wearing a plastic retainer to hold everything in place for over a year... Thank you for sharing.

I started Prolia 8 mos. ago; and a miserable 8 months they have been. My symptoms are severe muscle and joint pain. Although my pain is body wide, in particular, I experience severe jaw and neck pain; and the top of my thighs and hips. In addition, I have crushing fatigue. To top it off, in spite of loss of appetite, I have gained 10 pounds. No more Prolia for me!
