Re: sal (# 2437) Expand Referenced Message

I ended up with severe hyperparathryoid - had the tumor and parathryoid that was afffected (one gland, not all four) removed and related tumor on thyroid removed - - have had a good increase on bone density since, feel incredibly better - - not perfect, but better. Bone density is much better except for right hip where the bursitis kicked in after the injection. After almost 3 years, the hip remains cranky.
Just broke a rib though, lifting a suitcase, so thinking bones are still fragile, but heck I'm in my 70's . . . so yes, definitely connected. In fact, I think there is some research on this out there. On the other hand, I broke a leg in my 20's - did I have osteoporosis then? I don't think so.

Re: Edie (# 2428) Expand Referenced Message

It is of a great concern that time after time they deny our symptoms are side effects. Can they ALL be on the take ?
Do they not want to be bothered following through on our complaints ? That might mean more work. I know I have mentioned this many times, but it bears repeating. At one point, I developed
Hypocalcemia and Hyperparathyroidism,
very serious conditions. 3 doctors, including the one who prescribed it blew me off. All they had to do was read the ad''s as it is listed there. Finally, Dr. Number 4 listened to me and ordered tests.
This to me is a dereliction of duty on the part of the 3 who refused to listen, especially since he is a specialist.

This is a new one on me. Since Prolia affects the Immune system, it might be worthwhile to request testing your Ige level. This a measure of immune response.

Re: Poodle (# 2430) Expand Referenced Message
hey its me again. Has anyone reported weird skin issues, 2-3 years after one injection? I have been battling a fiery burning and grotesque skin problem, primarily on my entire back but spots on leg and other parts flaring off and on. Ive always had gorgeous skin....its freaking me out, besides the constant burning. Im off steriods and creams for a couple weeks......it may be unrelated, but never had these issues b4...been through 2 drs..plus one dermatologist.

Same thing happens to me with every medico I speak to on the subject. How can they deny the obvious other than having some sort of kickback from the stuff. My physiotherapist is the only one who believes me and that is because his own mother had problems with statin medications that would have killed her had he not intervened and stopped her taking them. This has made him appreciate that some people do have serious side effects which doctors tend to ignore.

Re: Poodle (# 2431) Expand Referenced Message

Poodle ,re my bone graft. The oral surgeon couldn't do the implant at the same time as there was so much bone loss in the upper front gums. She said she would try to do both at the same time but when she cut into the gums she realized that the implant would not hold. Thus , I now have to wait. I got the flipper after the front tooth was pulled. Vanity, thy name is woman....i couldn't go around smiling with no front tooth.
And yes I agree about paying in order to have my health. Fortunately here in Canada we have a national health system which covers doctors, hospitals, etc and them I also have extended health insurance!
Enjoy your new teeth and good luck with the knee.

Nice to hear from you old friend. Are you coming for the Class Reunion this year? I'm going to be out of town. Get busy with your art and you will feel better. I thought you got pretty much straightened out when they operated on your Thyroid. I seem to be hugely MISTAKEN. When does ALL of this totally disappear from our lives? Hugs.

About the same thing -- both are crooks in my opinion. I would rather lose some money than my health tho. Be well~

Re: Judy (# 2427) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Judy. Mine were in the far, far back bottom on left hand side. Prolia just ate up the roots to those two but it could not progress because there is a titanium implant next to them and that stopped Prolia in it's tracks. You have had your 'flipper' for quite some time. When did they do the bone graft for you? I had bone graft and implants at the same time. That way everything heals together. You should be well healed 6 months after the bone graft. I just got back from my dentist again today for clearance for knee replacement surgery. He commented on how well I take care of my teeth and told him I really do not. It's the Sonicare I use that keeps them perfect. Be well~

Re: prissymt (# 2418) Expand Referenced Message

Are you sure it is shingles because Prolia causes two different skin problems -- one is what most people write about here and there is another with small blue and red spots? It says if you get the blue and red spots, get to your Dr. immediately. To get Shingles one had to have ChickenPox and singles attack nerves. A friend of mine that is a diabetic doing home dialysis got Shingles very close to her eye and the Docs were really worried about it going into her eye. Also depending on your age would be if you had the vaccine for it. She did not get it because she was one year under age for the vaccine so she really should have received it. This is really unfortunate. Hopefully the Docs can do more for it now. Be well~

Re: Judy (# 2426) Expand Referenced Message

I called Amgen and I live in Arkansas and they told me that no one had complained about dental problems. I knew that wasn’t true. I don’t know anything about Canada drug companies.

Re: Poodle (# 2423) Expand Referenced Message

thanks Pood. Guess i misunderstood. My bone graft was in February so I guess I have some time to wait before the final result! Were any of your teeth in the front? I'm having to wear a "flipper" which is most uncomfortable. When I finally get my new crown I'm going to have a funeral and bury the annoying appliance!!!

Re: Linda (# 2425) Expand Referenced Message

Linda, I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say its not true. if you're referring to my calling Amgen, I live in Canada so I'm assuming it was the Canadian division I was speaking to.

Re: Judy (# 2421) Expand Referenced Message

That is not true at all, I complained to the drug company a long time ago. I lost all of my top teeth and just got my last implant. Very expensive and I think they should reimburse me but that is a dream I am sure.

Poodle (# 2405) --Lizzy -- after more searching on the net other people have had this exact same problem with Prolia. I saw 3 separate cases so you are far from alone. I could not remember which thread you were on here and finally found you. Be well~Pood

Judy (# 2421) --No, my implants were put in a year ago in May and they had to do a lot of bone grafting. Now, a year later, I am finally getting the crowns put on and they will be ready to put in on June 13. Be well, Pood

Re: Poodle (# 2420) Expand Referenced Message

Oh Poodle, sounds like a nightmare....what you've been through. From what I understand you're having both the implant and crown done at the same time? In my case once the bone graft has taken I then go back to the oral surgeon for the actual implant and once it is firmly imbedded I then get the crown. The costs for me, excluding the crown, is $5500. All for one front tooth. (That does include the graft which was done under sedation as I will also be having when the implant is put in) I'm a big chicken when it comes to dealing with any pain in my mouth! Besides its a great way to catch up on my sleep! I really think all of us who have had implants due to the effects of taking Prolia should, en masse, send our bills to Enron. Bombard them, ad nauseum ....maybe they'll get the picture of how this drug has not only affected our health but also our pocketbooks! Actually it was my dentist who suggested this! When I phoned the company and complained, they said it was the first complaint they'd had! Take care Poodle and go out when you get your new crowns have a juicy steak! Enjoy every chewable!!

Re: Judy (# 2417) Expand Referenced Message

It was not fun in the least. My mouth is small and narrow like all of me is so he had a difficult time getting to the far back two teeth and there were a total of 4 castings. Also had to use a 'tray' that is for children. Two were done in the in different colors and another of the bottom of a different color and finally a teal blue with purple where the implants go in. Everything was a different color so I guess it's so the lab knows which is top, bottom and bottom where the implants go and how large to make the crown. It felt a little weird to have the tiny caps on them unscrewed for the castings with a long post screwed on and then the long posts unscrewed and tiny caps then screwed back on again. They will be ready the first week in June. Not painful except for his fingers pressing my front teeth into my lip and then, of all times, I got a leg cramp and had to stand up and walk a little to get rid of it. I'm currently out of Magnesium. YIKES! Yours will be so much better right in the front. Just expect more than one casting. I have not had a casting like those before and it's a new material they squirt into the metal trays in your mouth. It hardens when removed from the mouth. The final one of blue and purple had to be left in for exactly 4 minutes on the dot. I quite imagine you have the exact same technology as we do. Price tag was staggering ($3700.00) and he wanted it all paid that same day so thankfully he takes credit cards. Front teeth are probably expensive too so be prepared. Be well~
