Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Re: Ally (# 3129) Expand Referenced Message

To this day, any years after taking prolia, I have sores on the roof of my mouth which get irritated with any spicy food. My oral specialist has tried many medications and the one that gives me moderate relief is Lyderm fluocinonide gel. I also lost a front tooth due to prolia and at great expense had to have a bone graft before I could even get an implant
My advice to you would to be very cautious making up your mind to take this med. I wish I had.

That’s the hard thing about pinpointing that your various, alarming issues come from Prolia! Prolia offen attacks everyone with different issues at different times of the 6 month timeframe. Who the heck thinks “Hey, this horrible rash is from the Prolia shot I got 3 months ago”??

Re: Judy (# 3130) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Judy,

When I went to the dentist last year they didn't know about Prolia's osteonecrosis of the jaw. They must have immediately did some research because on the paperwork they now have a question regarding if anyone has taken Prolia.

I'm so glad they took my warnings seriously and I hope it helps someone.

How are you doing?

Re: Judy (# 3133) Expand Referenced Message

My rheumatologist brushed off my concerns when I asked him what the side effects of Prolia were. He told me hadn't heard of any of his patients with side effects from Prolia.

I bet there were more women than just mue.

Sending hugs!

My doctor also told me that none of his patients had any side effects. Within two weeks of the shot I was shedding hair like a dog. When I questioned the doctor he said it was not from Prolia. Also developed bone pain. I did not get the second shot. It took about two years for the hair to get back to normal. I did experience the mouth sores, but did not make to the connection to Prolia.

Re: Jolly (# 3138) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Jolly,
I’m beginning to notice a pattern here of the doctors who have prescribed prolia saying they’ve never had patients mention side effects. Could Amgen be offering kick- backs ? Or are these medical professionals suffering from amnesia?
It wasn’t until I saw an oral specialist who was aware of these side effects. Prolia, from what I understand, can affect the immune system. There are other side effects which I’m sure doctors are aware of but turn a blind eye to.
Usually, again from what I understand, prolia is recommended for those with more severe bone loss. I wasn’t one of them!
By the way, it was a gynaecologist who prescribed this for me! I should have questioned her more!

I was the same but with different symptoms and still 3 years later am struggling with issues such as abdominal pain, nausea and now my asthma is more severe than before. Since this drug and many others for osteoporosis alter your immune system doctors just think it is something with you not the med. I started therapy called Osteostrong which I believe came out of the US and that there are many clinic and do feel better with the back pain. The darn injection weekend my spine even more. Trying to stay positive. They say that they can if my bone density. I am going once per week for a year.

I've had asthma since I was a child. After taking Prolia it gave me asthma-related COPD. Consider asking your pulmonologist if you have it too. COPD is one of the side effects of the drug.

Do not take anymore as this can last forever. Try something more natural to assist with your osteoporosis. I eat food with calcium and take 4,000 units of VitD a day. Yogurt is really good, cottage cheese certain veggies etc.

Interesting about the pharmacist, my own experience, not about prolia, but l had undiagnosed-untreated intersticial cystitus for many years, severe pain ill health poor quality life, Dr,s re gp and consultant put symptoms down to post op csection-sterilisation, later gyny, then hormonal, finally after years hypacondria etc despite proven nr persistent thrush, bouts of aneamia,
occasional bacterial cystitus, meds helped for short while and symptoms back, years went by, then got a bad bout of ic going onto the kidney, pyleitus, dr gave me pessaries daily for two week, antibs a weekly tablet for a month, horrible treatment but did feel really well at the end of it, but weeks later symptoms back. l had a long talk with the local pharmacist he told me the meds l had were for a deep seated infection, never heard of such, he explained, read up a bit more, saw gp and insisted on seeing a urologist, l had xray, scan, scope, finally after years suffering got a diagnosis treatment, which slowly but surely improved my lot, never cured but symptoms controlled with 9o per cent improvement
And it was definetly the info and advice from pharmacist
that helped me understand how real the problem was and oppose the docs diagnosis, and attitude. So agree how much the pharmacists can help with good advice.

I had no side effects with my first shot six months ago. I had my second one five days ago. First my arm was sore then my entire back was very sore which kept me up for the past five nights.I also had a dry chest cough. I am feeling the discomfort slowly lifting. I am too frightened to continue the medication.

I had my first shot of Prolia 7 days ago. since then I have developed small sores on my arms and hands. I have pain in the bones of my arm mostly stabing pains that dont last long but hurt like heck. Severe Upper back pain as well as numbness to the skin where the back pain is. Not sure if it is related but today my ancles swelled up kinda unusual because I take water pills for my blood pressure. I hope the symptoms don't continue to get worse.

I have been on Prolia since it's approval, Had 3 injections so far and the side effects have been terrible.
Pain throughout my whole body for 1.5 years now.
I have been told not to take it anymore, presently getting injections in my lower back to reduce the pain and also on Endocet pain killers.
I wish I had never started this stuff as had had previously bad side effect from Fosamax and Actonel.
I'm wondering how long it will take before this is out of my system.
I'm 72 years old and hope to have some more years left without the pain.

After the first shot the pain was not so bad, however it got progressively worst. After finding this web site and reading all the reports i was convinced not to have anymore shots.
My pain clinic now has several patients with the same results as I had. I'm now of the shot since September 2011 and hope to start feeling better.

Deb, if you read the adverse effect information here:

https://rxchat.com/wiki/Prolia/

You'll see that it is known to cause joint pain and generally when a medication is known to cause one type of pain, it isn't very surprising that it may also cause other types of pain issues.

You should definitely discuss it with your doctor.

Is there anything else I can help with?

The 6 months were up October 2011. The side effects are still there. The bony growths on my gums are there, causing more teeth problems, have sore throat issues, bladder problems, terrible pains in the spine and areas. Severe iching and rash, dermatologist gave me creams but no help. No one knows what is wrong, except Doctor's aren't aware of this new drug Prolia, and think everyone is a hypochondriac. Last year and so far this year has been absolute hell. Never again will I will take Prolia or anything else, especially haven't had any info prior by the doctor giving injection. Feel sorry for the elderly who don't know what is causing their problems. Money trumps everything

I immediately started feeling strange in my mouth and lips, and within a few days broke out in cold sores that don't seem to be going away. Also night sweats, tingling in the feet and fingers. But the feeling of lightheadedness makes me feel like I may fall at any time is the worst. Don't know what to do since the symptoms sound trivial, yet are making me miserable. I am waiting for this to go away........and will not get another injection since the cure is worse than the disease so far.

hi barbie,
thanks for your news will copy and paste it to my friend, she appreciates it, like you its going up to a year since her prolia jab and she believes some of her side affects are still present, last month had a spinal injection to help with the pain, steroid of course, isnt everything, she also gets stuff to strengthen her bones, but she,s not keen on that either, bisoperol l think, she does take calcium, but told she could be paralysed if her bones arent strengthened, so does try, and also used tonic for quinine, just got email from her, had a very bad night and called doc out today, now worrying her newly prescribed beta blockers also causing problem. Side effects often a problem, some more than others, and more so if youve immune probs. Might add, going off track a bit, just my personal opinion, having immune probs myself, re i.c., allergic rhinits, skin probs, all for years, this year, and march is early, the symptoms have started with a vengence, chronic congestion, and my breathing also worse this year, despite inhalers, so
think the allergens-pollutants are getting worse and affecting those most with immune problems, just been out for anti h,s spray and tablets, but no miracle one, but like you we plod on, make the best of the good days, endure the bad, as tomorrows another day, best wishes
