Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Re: Sal (# 2912) Expand Referenced Message

Good point about calcium. My level dropped after Prolia, but was actually high before the shot. Now, since I am off the drug about a year, the calcium has leveled out. The Prolia masked the high calcium level that was actually caused by a parathyroid tumor which has since been removed. However, I am dealing with post=Prolia skin rashes that are dryng and itchy and have patches of dry, red, spots. Started taking collagen for the skin and did some research on collagen. It turns out to be a good partner for calcium and can help the bones. I will try taking both and eventually see what happens with my bone scan. If nothing else Prolia forces you to educate yourself to survive the after effects!

Re: Sedona (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

did your problems ever go away? Mine persist and I am at the end of year one waiting for them to go away (and actively fighting against Prolia with various methods). I am so disgusted and so sad that I trusted in an oncologist. I believe most medical doctors to be ignorant because they are being fed lies by the drug companies. When I got breast cancer almost 4 years ago, I was able to talk to a scientist who told me chemo was a bad decision too. They almost got me with chemo until I listened to the scientist. If only he had been around when they later advised me to take Prolia for two years (simply to prevent bone problems while on estrogen blocker). I later learned, Prolia is used in bone chemo, so they got their chemo drug into me despite my never wanting it, AND it is having effects on my mouth even to this day, similar to effects that chemo drugs have on the mouth. Not to mention feeling wind on my back, swaying sensations and other weird internal feelings I feel are related to the nervous system. Maybe it wacked my brain somehow!

The side effects of Prolia are horrible. Beware of this deadly drug. The side effects have been and still are a nightmare for me. Horrible drug!!

I second that! It is a horrible toxic drug. I advise against it. If only I had known about this site before I took my first injection.

My 7 shots (can you believe that I didn't twig earlier) though the last few shots from different medicos were given with the words, 'do you want a hip fracture?' The last shot was about 2 years ago. I have had an aching jaw since about the first one or two and my GP assured me that it was neuralgia. It was not. Also have aching thigh bones which are extremely painful particularly at rest.
GPs take no interest in my complaints.

Re: Marion (# 2921) Expand Referenced Message

I too have permanent joint pain and disfigurement. The pain, suffering and dangerous side effects I experienced were unmanageable.

My experience with medicos was the same, they turn a deaf ear, but employ scare tactics.

An alkaline diet and exercises can do wonders. Check out Save Our Bones.

This is a highly toxic drug, I advise against it.

It is my mission to make our voices heard besides just hear. Will keep everyone in the loop with my progress. I will not rest until someone takes notice of the hell we have been through.

It seems like they don’t care, the only ones who care are the ones being adversely affected. I don’t know the cost now, but when I was taking it, it was $1,300 per shot. One would think at least Medicare would care. On the other hand in most cases the cost of the side effects, such as dental, are now covered by Medicare, so there is no financial loss there. We are the only ones to spread the word. Every time I hear of someone taking Prolia, I urge them to check this site. The usual response is: My Dr. says I must take it “.

I have noticed that Prolia added a few more “possible“ side effects in their ad.

Re: Giralda (# 2929) Expand Referenced Message

Well it is noted that this drug can cause severe issues for someone with severe kidney impairment. So really to me the risk is high and I have no idea why they would use this drug in this case. Anyone taking this even if they have osteoporosis should do their research first and have the doctor who is prescribing sign something indicating that it is safe for the to use and then see how fast they will take them off of the drug. Again only going from what has been published. Could not find a reason to prescribe this drug.

My oral surgeon said it never totally leaves your system. I was poison for me. Lost all of my top teeth.

First thing is hair falling out. Lots of hair falling out. The next thing is aching bones, as if you had been in a car accident. Others have complained of problems with their teeth. I did not have that problem. It was quite awhile before I figured out that the shots were the problem. I was told the hair loss was because I was old and the bone aches were arthritis. Good luck! It is just the money that the doctor gets that matters to all of them!

So, I have been taking Statins for high cholesterol and experiencing similar side effects as with Prolia ( from which I have never fully recovered ). I was becoming concerned that there might be something else going on so I saw a Rheumatologist.. The first words out of her mouth were “statins and Fibromyalgia don’t mix. ! “. That got me thinking, maybe Prolia and Fibromyalgia don’t mix as well. Now my Dr. wants me to take an injectable medicine for cholesterol made by : AMGEN. ! ! I am beside myself.

Re: Darcy (# 2953) Expand Referenced Message

I share many of your side effects, and I had also with Statins for cholesterol.
I cannot tolerate either. Recently I had the same conversation with Dr’s. With these drugs and cannot function. Finally now, I am exercising again.
I prefer to use diet and exercise instead of drugs. Check out Save Our Bones.

Re: Darcy (# 2953) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Darcy and everyone,

Do you or anyone else have the front leg muscles pull so tight and makes you so off balance you need to walk with a cane? I've got this and was wondering if it's another nasty Prolia side effect.

Someone mentioned a plant-based diet. I'm almost back to being a vegetarian and am considering going vegan. I can't do a drastic diet change or I get sicker. This has been a fairly quick easing back into vegetarianism (about 2 weeks.) Sal, I'm going to get the Save Our Bones program this year.

Thanks for the help everyone. Hugs and blessings!
Nikki

Yes on the leg muscles. 3 years later I still have it, then took Statins and exacerbated all my spasms and weakness. The problems with my toes will always be with me. In the last few days, I have finally been able to exercise again. I too get sick on a total vegetarian or Vegan diet, but Save Our Bones recommends an 80/20 plan, with the 80% being plant based. My go to exercise for years has been TTAPP, I also do Leslie Sansones Walk at Home, an excellent work out. Now I have added
Exercises by Miranda Edmonds White, the low level, she has one specifically for Osteo. I am thinking positively that the next 2 years will show stronger bones. Good health to all

Re: Nikki (# 2962) Expand Referenced Message

Prolix is Fibro intensifies, so are Statins. My last shot was in 2017, and it has taken me until now to recover, the statin took early two months, the two together on top of Fibro were murder. Finally I am moving again. I am looking forward to Silver Sneakers next week. The past few years have been mostly in bed. My Dr’s tell me my symptoms are Fibro , but I remind them that I have had Fibro from before they were born and I know what is Fibro and what is not. Yoga is also good for Osteo, but certain poses are not. Check out Dr Loren Fishman in New York City, he has a program of Yoga for Osteo. That is a long term goal, right now I am too weak and wobbly. Be well

Re: Sal (# 2969) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Sal,

Due to numerous digestive issues I can't have cauliflower or broccoli. I'm gluten intolerant and it seems like most gluten free products all have cauliflower (not my fav veg anyway.)

I ate a hamburger today (on gluten free bread) and it bothered my stomach. So, I'm going to continue with the ovo-lacto vegetarian diet and add in some raw and vegan. I wonder if eating vegetarian is just easier on our bodies because it doesn't take as much energy to digest.

I bought two packages of lentils. I've never cooked them before. I hope they turn out. Now to find the recipe to make a lentil meatloaf. If anyone likes mushrooms Miyoko Skinner has a recipe for mushroom burgers that looks wonderful. She has a video on YouTube that shows her making it.

Have you or anyone else here have issues with your feet and legs swelling? I had it occasionally and then after the Prolia, it's so much of an issue, my PCP is sending me to a cardiologist.

Hugs,
Nikki

Re: Nikki (# 2971) Expand Referenced Message

I have the same digestive issues, but have been able avoid cauliflower. Additionally cruciferous vegetables are Thyrotoxic.
Mostly I eat a plant based diet, with a little low fat dairy. In addition to Weight Watchers, I follow The Dash Diet, eating mostly veg. Lentils are my favorite food ! They are so versatile. Besides T. Colin Campbell ( The China Study, Forks over Knives ), I enjoy Christina Cooks, on PBS Create and a web site. She has a cooking show of plant based foods. She is now middle aged, but in her 20’s she had end stage cancer, had run out of options, was encouraged to go MacroBiotic, and has been in remission ever since. Now she eats plant based, and has wonderful recipes, and she is a delightful personality.
In fact, she gives courses in Philadelphia.
Good health to you.
Hugs back,
