Prolia Side Effects (Page 24) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
Re: Marion (# 2501)
The worst fracture that happens when stopping Prolia is one in a vertebra. It heals quickly and all is well. Amgen even has this listed on their site. It's true because I got one. Be well~
Re: Judy (# 2514)
It took me a full year before I could get my implants completed. I got very discouraged but it finally happened. I hated the dentures. Hang in there. Never Prolia again. It is awful.
Re: Judy (# 2514)
Prolia ate up the roots to that tooth or was the whole part of the jaw like necrosis of the jaw? On mine it ate the roots to two teeth in the far, far bottom back. The only thing that saved the remainder was it ran into a titanium implant and Prolia cannot get passed that. If it had not been there, I would have lost most of my bottoms. I don't understand how it does it, but there are numerous of us here with it. It's an extremely expensive side effect! The crowns alone were $4,000 and will be put on June 13. I think the implants were around $10,000. Thank you AMGEN!! My dentist remarked how fantastic my teeth are from not getting any decay. Had to have a full dental clearance for the upcoming total knee replacement because there will be no dental work after it for 6 months after. Have to have antibiotics anyway to protect the joints that have already been replaced.

Let me add to this since I got a negative comment here about CBD oil. It can only do a little to help us. There is another product that is made from leaves of very certain trees in Indonesia and Thailand and surrounding areas. It's called red bali. It has to be started in small doses of 1/4 teaspoon until you can reach your full dose. It acts on the human brain just like an opioid does but you cannot OD on it nor will you get addicted to it. When you reach your max dose it acts just like a real opioid on our brains and gives us total relief from all pain. It's legal in every State in the US except 4 - Wisconsin, Vermont, Mississippi and I think maybe Missouri from looking at a map. You may already have a vendor for it where you live if you have a shop that carries a lot of vitamins and natural remedies. It's also a heck of a lot cheaper than a good CBD oil which runs about $130 a bottle while the red bali is only $9/bag and there is a lot in that bag. I would rather have really great pain relief with Prolia than an expensive mediocre one. It's also available to purchase on the net for the same price of $9/bag. Get it soon before the Feds figure out we have something really fantastic here and they make it illegal in ALL States. Australia - I don't know about your ruling on this. You would have to check for yourselves. I went straight on it from Oxycodone 10mg. My brain thinks it has the real pill and it's just a legal non-Rx substitute that cannot harm me. I am not having the nasty side effects of Oxycodone tho. There are dosing instructions with it as compared to morphine. Just make sure you start small and slowly build up to the full dose. The red bali does have to be mixed with orange juice or chocolate milk because it is very bitter. Okay Ladies. Now you know the truth about my remarks. Be well~
Re: Lizzie (# 2532)
Hi. I have a degree in Science. I have zero to do with any website monitoring on MedsChat. They have their own moderator. I also have a private practice in holistic medicine. My only purpose here is to help those that have come after me with Prolia. People have huge problems with Prolia and they need to know the truth - it's not all in their heads as some medical professionals want us to believe. They are REAL and DANGEROUS side effects from Prolia. I don't mind in the least that you ask. I have worked and studied very long to be where I am today. Be well~
Re: Poodle (# 2533)
Thanks, Poodle for all of the information you provide.
I am a retired nurse who would love to be a holistic practioner, but at this point on my life and with all my health issues that isn't going to happen. I am content to be a patient of holistic practioner.
I too believe I have a mission to spread the word not only about Prolia, but all of these toxic Osteo drugs.
Thanks again.

No, I have been Hypothyroid for 20 years. The Hyperparathyroidism was secondary to the Hypocalcemia. Because of that, I had to take massive doses of Calcium; and that I relate to my Kidney stones. So, in directly my Kidney stones are related to Prolia.
It is interesting to read the new ads for Prolia.
Re: Lizzie (# 2555)
I agree that they don't all have an ulterior motive, but I do believe they are too willing to accept whatever Big Pharma says while discounting their patients. It is of utmost importance that the public become well informed and become our own advocates.
sal (# 2549) --
Well, Sal. I have used the xylimelts for 3 nights now and, eureka, I think it's working! I did notice that, as the cautions say, it can be a mild laxative and it was, so I only used 1 last night and it seemed a bit better. I actually slept through most of the night without a drink of water!!!Now if only the sensitivity on the roof of my mouth would go away. I'm thinking that because I have to wear this darn "flipper" until I get an implant, it may be the culprit and is irritating my mouth. I had the bone graft Feb 1st but so far it's not ready for the implant. I see the oral surgeon again the end of August.
I must admit that finding this med-chat group has been a godsend. Finding others with the same side effects from prolia and how they have dealt with them is most encouraging and helpful. Especially knowing that others were told the same thing I was......that my problems were all in my mind and not caused by Prolia. Certainly phoning Amgen was futile when it came to asking for some answers or help. A waste of Amgens money hiring people to give such glib remarks!
Prolia, actual drug is denosumab, also marketed as Xgeva a treatment for Cancer patients is a form of chemotherapy. I did not know this when I took my first injection in 2012, if I had known this and all the horrible side effects of the Prolia I was given for Osteopinia, I would have never taken it. I tolerated 7 injections before I started researching and found out what horrible side effects it could have. I stopped in 2015,, but I am still suffering the many side effects from it. I do not think I will ever be the same. My body may never recover. I have been to a number of doctors and I am still fighting what this drug, PROLIA, has done to my overall health. Horrible drug. Beware before you agree to taking it. Amgen and the FDA should take it off the market, except for cancer patients. Hope this helps someone.
Re: Gloria (# 2570)
So, which came first, treatment for cancer or osteoporosis ? In other words, was this drug developed for cancer and then they realized they could make a lot more money by marketing it for Osteo, or the other way around ?
sal (# 2560) --
Prolia was not developed to be a 'go to' drug. It was developed as a 'last resort' drug. This seems to be a fact that our Medical community does not understand. One should only use Prolia when ALL the others have FAILED. It seems the medical community in the USA and Canada is reaching for Prolia first instead of last. People really have to do their homework before accepting it. My Dr. is still very apologetic for using it on me once and I have yet to fully recover from it. The others are various forms of bis's and one other that helps build back female hormones so the bones get built up naturally. It cannot be used if one has ever had a DVT or PE. These are the facts of the world right now. Hopefully, the future will change it. Be well~

You couldn't be more right. I was on actonel for about 7 years with good results. My doctor then took me off. I, in the meantime saw a Gynocologist for another minor problem who after a few years and a bone density told me I was a prime candidate for Prolia. I'm small boned, the bone density report was not good and therefore Prolia, a miracle drug, new on the market was the answer. She scared the, you know what, out of me and as she was considered one of the top Dr.s in Toronto, after much consideration, I agreed. When I did have side effects after the 2nd and worse after the 3rd I was told it was all psychological brought on by stress. Even though I have been off it now for almost 2 years I am still suffering from the effects. So, yes, it's not something to take lightly. I'm sure if I even I had gone back on actonel I would not be dealing with what I am dealing with now. When is Amgen going to do something about this. I don't want my daughters or granddaughters to ever have to go through being a "guinea pig" like so many women are now. I sometimes feel so helpless in getting this message out to others before they are given the opportunity to really know what they could possibly end up dealing with. Koodo's to you, Poodle for your very informed info. It has been most helpful.
I have taken the Prolia shot for 7 years now. Just had a CD of back because of severe pain. Every side effect has damaged my spine. FINDINGS: there IS PARTIAL VISUALIZATION OF A CHRONIC SUPERIOR ENDPLATE COMPRESSION DEFORMITY WITH APPROXIMATELY 50 PERCENT LOSS OF THE t11 VERTEBRAL BODY HEIGHT DEMONSTRATED ON CORRELATED CT OF CHEST DATED 11/30/2017. I had blood in my urine. I had a Doctor for 20 years who is the one that put me on it, reason I left him is because we never got to see him, just the physician assistant. After not seeing the primary care Doc. for 3 years, we had to leave. I have asked the Doc that gives me the shot of Prolia when I can quit, he said probably never. I read research on this drug after the awful pain I was having, then went to my family Doc. I think no one wants to tell me that when you come off of this drug, bones will break. What an awful thing to do to people. You must get this information out before it destroys others lives.
Re: Norma Yuce (# 2587)
Norma, a bit of advice. We are in charge of our selfs and our bodies. We pay doctors for their help and advice but it doesn't mean we have to follow through. Probably in most cases the doctors are correct but not always. it is our right, if we're not sure about something to say NO. I didn't and to this day I wish I had had the wisdom and strength to do so. I read in our local Canadian paper this morning that Amgen Canada spends $10.86 million in payments to doctors and Healthcare organizations last year. No wonder some doctors are so eager to prescribe Prolia!.Mine was!
Re: Norma (# 2580)
I read that if you take Biophosphonates when you stop prolia your bones will not break!!
Re: Norma Yuce (# 2587)
I agree, they should take this drug Denosumab, marketed as Prolia and Xgeva, off the market, it is a cancer drug, a form of chemotherapy. As I have posted many times, it was and still is a nightmare for me. I am not sure my body will ever get better from the shots I took. A HORRIBLE DRUG!
Re: Gloria (# 2597)
If we can't get it off the market, perhaps we can fight for prescribing guidelines.
Right now it seems like any doctor is prescribing to anyone with a low bone density, even Osteopenia, this seems like
a poor medical practice. When I was an active nurse, there was such a thing as:
Standard of Care.

I have another month before getting another inj. Now remember 7 yrs of them. I refuse to take another. I have found some really good calcium builders. ALGAE CAL. PLUS. STRONTIUM. BOOST. Taken together it maximize bone health. Also BONE BROTH. You drink. My bone are not hurting as much. And muscle pain. Is less. BUT every day it changes.
Re: TexasNana (# 2606)
Stay away from Prolia. It should never of been put on market. I have loss 50% of bone mass with Prolia and now fighting like the devil to get better
