Prolia Side Effects (Page 23) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
Re: EllenI (# 2329)
You might want to get an x-ray. Same thing happened to my dad only he ended up falling because he lost his balance within the first 2 days after the shot, went to ER and they did and x-ray. said he had a fracture from the fall but Prolia can cause a fracture on it's own. Especially in the thigh bone! Thats just how it works! Very strong in the beginning especially. They wouldn't believe me that the fracture was from the Prolia and that's why he fell. NO ONE WILL LISTEN TO US!
Re: Forever Bummed (# 2330)
No, no one will listen to us about how horrible the side effects of Prolia are. I have on doctor my GP that agrees with me and he did not get notified that I was taking the injections or he would have stopped me after the first shot. It is a horrible drug. Should be taken off the market.
Re: Shirley (# 2334)
Just got my last implant after loosing all of my top teeth caused by Prolia. They cost a fortune. I would be willing to get in a class action law suit. I no longer see the doctor that told me there were side effects.
Re: Gloria (# 2338)
I agree, but I don't see that happening.
My mission is to share my experience with anyone who will listen, in an effort to discourage use of this drug.
Re: Sal (# 2339)
Thanks so much for all your comments as it made me refuse the drug, so pleased I did.
Re: Marion (# 2368)
Not informing of known, dangerous side effects seems derelict to me.
This points out the need to be an informed Patient.
Me, I knew of the potential side effects, but because I was scared and vulnerable, I agreed to take it.
This decision was based on emotion;
intellectually, I knew better.
Never again will I do such a thing.
Re: Marion (# 2368)
It took me a full 9 months to make the connection. It wasn't even denial, just naivety, As a professional researcher I feel so stupid. I suppose we all feel pretty desperate after a diagnosis of osteoporosis. The wretched drug fulfilled it stated purpose and my bones have benefited for now. I think I was so freaked out by the prospect of the full-on 'dowager's hump', and so terrified of the hideous prospect of further fractures, that my critical faculties simply abandoned me. I was pathetically trusting in a time of exceptional vulnerability. And I'm usually somewhat skeptical!
Re: Giralda (# 2375)
I have stage three kidney disease and my dr. Said its a widely used drug among people with kidney issues. I took one shot of prolia and had many side effects, so I haven't taken anymore. Personally, I don't recommend it,as it hasn't even had a 10 yr. study. If I had done my research , I would have choosen not to take prolia. As far as I'm concerned we are being used as quinea pigs. I called Amegen (the manufacturer of this drug and they were unable to answer many of my questions. Not a good indication of how much they know about prolia. Good luck in whatever you decide .just do as much research as you can to educate yourself.
Re: JenjiOz (# 2385)
It took me a while for my skin manifestations to resolve. My body had become inflamed and it needed to calm down.
I very much appreciate this group. Besides realizing that I am not alone, nor crazy; as you said, it helped me put my problems into prespective.
I am pretty much back to normal, except for some permanently enlarged joints.
I intend to stay connected to this group in order to share my story, and to offer hope.
Good health !
Is anyone experiencing urinary incontinence after taking Prolia? I have never had that problem and now am totally undone by incontinence after taking the shot.
Re: MistyG (# 147)
I had my second shot of Prolia on a Thursday and started with Shingles on Friday. I am seeing it described as a lumpy rash on many forums. I do believe there is a link. Although it will be some time before all of the potential side effects of Prolia are realized - Doctors cant learn or report side effects if they refuse to acknowledge they exist!
Re: Giralda (# 2447)
First MDs have to match blood types for a kidney donor to the person needing the kidney. If the blood type was not perfectly matched, a person rejects a donor kidney. Human blood comes in about 3 varieties. I am a person who can give to all but only receive my specific type back. This is quite rare I am told. I don't know what country you live in but a lot of South America is equivalent medically to the US now and also the UK. I don't know if Prolia played a roll in this or not but it well could have because Prolia deletes a lot of T-cells and T-cell helpers from the human body. This is the reason so many different infections happen while using Prolia. Our T-cells and their helpers are the first line defense against viruses, bacteria, and cancer too. Their job is to seek out and destroy 'bad' things before they can cause us any harm. This may help you understand what happened. Perhaps the kidney was rejected because the T-cells and T-cell helpers were unable to keep your Mother healthy and thus she rejected the donor kidney. I know for sure anti-rejection drugs have to be administered to the person receiving a kidney transplant. Did your Mother receive those drugs? Did her diminished T-cells and T-cell helpers fail to keep her healthy after the transplant? These are questions you have to ask her Medical Team in express terms. Lastly, I offer my deep condolences for your loss. A loss of a Mother at any age is difficult at best. Be well~
Re: Dottie (# 2457)
Dottie,
I,too, had terrible skin rashes in my scalp, on my face , legs arms and chest. Also in my mouth. This started after the second shot and progressed after the third . I saw a dermatologist who have be cream and a solution for my body and scalp. The mouth, a different story. It comes and goes and I find eating anything spicy still aggravates it. All the meds a specialist tried for my mouth had side effects so I stopped them all.
Good luck with the rash.i think that by not continuing the Prolia you will 'lick' the problem. I just wish I could say the same for the continual muscle pain I am still experiencing. It had done more harm to more people and I don't understand why Amgen does not acknowledge that these are real problems and give more warning to potential users. I signed no waiver saying that if I might experience side effects I would not hold Amgen responsible. I was told by the prescribing Doctor that she knew on no on who had had any!! Was I ever naive!
Re: TransplantedYankee (# 2464)
I wish I had had your clear thinking. I was so shocked to find I had gone from Osteopenia to vertebral fractures that I became frightened and vulnerable, in spite of my opposition to ever taking these meds. I KNEW better, but I allowed my emotions to rule.
Re: Lizzie (# 2467)
None of us are crazy for linking Prolia to our symptoms post injections but try telling that to our medicos. They just will not believe us. I have got to the stage where I don't really trust any of them with any of my other health issues. So where do we turn. Fortunately I believe that my faith in God is the only thing keeping me sane in all of this. We certainly can't trust the so called experts these days.
Re: TransplantedYankee (# 2470)
You were a lot wiser than I was.I got convinced by the doctor {gynaecologist!] that I was being over concerned about side effects that I finally broke down and agreed!. The worst decision I ever made as I'm still dealing with the after effects. Not as bad but still dealing with muscle pain and mouth sensitivity. However not as bad as others. By the way, I stopped seeing the doctor who prescribed it.
Re: Lynne (# 7)
I took one shot and will not take another. My hair is falling out in handfuls. I have leg cramps and lower back pain. I am taking tons of vitamins. Biotin for my hair, calcium and Vit D, potassium and magnesium.
Re: Marion (# 2469)
It all depends on what one looks like when she goes into the Drs. office. When I walked into my Dr's. office after the 3rd month of my 1 and only Prolia injection, she asked me: "What the F is wrong with you?" I replied: "You and your dam Prolia." At that time she got really, really busy and started doing all types of exotic blood work and worked with an Immunologist to get me over the worst of it. Apparently when one loses 68 pounds in 3 months and is whiter than a well bleached sheet it gets the Drs. attention in a big way. I did not have 68 pounds to lose and still have a very difficult time of putting any weight on. Something changed in my body during that time that is still hampering my weight gain. I have managed to get to 112 and that seems to be as far as it will go. Be well~
So, this is National Osteoporosis Month and there are seminars, etc. sponsored by Big Pharma, in particular a video made by Amgen. Meanwhile, a European study has concluded a history of falling is the greater indication of fracture, NOT Bone Mineral Density as we are told!
Re: Laura (# 2489)
Maybe they will start leaving us alone since Amgen with another company has come up with a different drug. We can only HOPE and HOPE that people look here before taking that FIRST injection. I sure did not want it and my Doc forced it on me by saying it would make my knee replacement surgery much better. Duhhh!! What surgeon in his right mind would operate on a person with a highly compromised immune system! She has justified her mistake by deeply apologizing, getting me more than appropriate help during the Prolia and we are now letting by-gones be by-gones but the trust is lost forever. I'm sure this is true of everyone of us -- will we ever trust the Dr. that gave us Prolia again in our lives! Be well~
