Prolia Side Effects (Page 17) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
My dentist told me only way to get out of system and have dental work is to go into hyperbaric chamber ( oxygen chamber ) . Insurance does not cover and around here 90 mins is about 1200.00 . Did not explore this further because of cost , but sounds as though there is connection to lung issues suffered by myself and others .If you have the money and really need help there may be a way . Not sure who you would speak to. Our area does have them but cannot afford it .
Had my 2nd shot of Prolia 2 weeks ago. I had been light itching all over body right after shot but it gone in about 10 minutes. I have aches where I never ached before. I have stomach cramps and bloating. I had developed severe constipation and pain and burning while urinating. After two shots I have had enough and will not be having the third!
Doctor recommends that I get Prolia, but I am scared about the side effects. Would really appreciate information from other users.
I have to report that there is hope. I am much better of all the Prolia side effects. My hip is not bothering as much, the horrible mouth pain is gone, although I still have lots of sensitivity.
The day of truth will be Aug 4 as I have my bone density test scheduled. Good luck to all. This has been a horrible experience.
Anonymous, not only was I dismissed as unusual in my inquiry to Amogen (sp?), the Dr seemed irritated and dismissive to my wife's call through the service after hours this evening. I was warned of this by two professionals and it is indeed listed as a possible side effect in the paperwork I was given, so far as to recommend I call the physician day or night if it did in fact occur. The periods of confusion are becoming more frequent and are accompanied by incredible cluster migraines and light headedness as they retreat. Large amounts of acetomenaphen and entirely shutting out all forms of external stimuli seem to eleviate the headaches as well as the panic that ensues when these periods of confusion set in. At approximately 4:00pm today, I found myself unable to decipher the digits on my clock. Immediately I was overwhelmed by a fear I've not known prior to last Wednesday, 16 July when this began occurring.. Only by concentration was I able to gather myself enough to realize it for the period of confusion it was and then, one by one, ( i.e. , turning off the television, lights ) remove the external stimuli from the equation until the seeming panic was relieved yet unfortunately the light headedness and severe headache remained for sometime.
The most aggravating is the now denial this could be a related side effect when I have the data sheet stating it so as tangible proof in my very hands. Should this continue I will be seeking emergent assistance. I cannot continue to allow these periods, for lack a better term, go on without medical documentation... ~Benny
I took my first Shot last year 2013 of prolia no problems I took my second shot in may by June 3 I started swelling and then by the 4 th my knees and neck hurt so bad I thought I would die and my back hurts don't sleep much all my joints ache and hurt I want to stay in bed cannot do my house work/yard work for all the pain and throw up more than I ever have is this caused from the shot I thought it was arthristis but this is much more painful I will not ever take this shot again b/c I started having all these problem about 6 days after last shot and some times in so much pain have to have help getting up
My mother is 88 years old and she is at her 3rd shot of Prolia. No side effects until today. She will take her 4th and last one shot in January 2015. This is what her endocrinologist advise her to do for 2 years. She also take calcium and eat lots of green leafs. Before Prolia she was taken Boniva for several years. I read all the comments and I think that she was luck. Good luck to all of you in your future treatments.
My dad received his 1st Prolia inj. August 18th. Started having weakness and stumbling, fell on August 23rd. He's 81. (Him and mom lived at home.) Went to the emergency room and ended up in the hospital for 10 days. He broke his pelvic bone and elbow. Ended up with these side effects from Prolia~~Severe Cellulitis in the arm with the broken elbow, severe ear ache (that the doctors couldn't figure out why), seemed like he had a severe case of the flu to the point we didn't think he'd make it through the nite, severe wrist pain (they did xrays to see if there was a break and there was not), tightness in chest and shortness of breath, ulcer looking spot on his heel (12 days after the shot which doctors couldn't figure out what this was also did xrays to see if he had stepped on something that was lodged in there but there was nothing), he has lost over 15 pounds, is constipated and needed help for that, he is now in a nursing home doing physical and occupational therapy but is so weak and can barely walk with a walker. He also has had a cough for 3 weeks and just aches in so many places, neck, arms, legs. The doctors in our area are either NOT informed or MISINFORMED about Prolia as I can see all of the complaints here on this site. They just could seem to explain all of this in my dad so when I decided to look up Prolia, I think this is at least part if not all of what is causing so many new and lingering problems for my dad. I'm trying to get info out of my mom as far as what his blood calcium level was before he received this inj. and how much calcium dad was put on but she hasn't shared this info with me as I think the doctor didn't check his calcium level and probably didn't realize he needed to put dad on calcium supplements or Vitamin D supplement and mom doesn't want to "make waves" with the doctor as many elderly patients feel and she doesn't like me to go to appts with them. This day in age, you can't be scared to tell doctors you aren't going to take all the meds they prescribe until you research them first especially when it's such a harsh drug as 2 inj's. a year. I've called Amgen twice and those people are trained to turn your story around and make it sound like the patient had the side effects before the inj. They interrupt the conversation and almost seem High pressuring. They won't give you a straight answer unless you get very very stern with them. I will call the FDA on Monday to report all of this. I just hope they listen and I hope real soon they'll take this drug off the market. It is NO good as far as I can see. I wish every doctor that has seen my dad, especially the prescribing doctor, would try just 1 inj. of this and see what happens to them. After all, my dad went to his doctor with aching hips and joints which our family knows for him is the beginning of being dehydrated but the doctor refuses to want to send dad to the hospital each time this happens and gives my folks something totally different as a reason and this time it was Osteoporosis that was causing the hip pain according to him. The doctor was getting approval for the Prolia inj. from dad's insurance. While waiting, Dad ended up in the hospital 4 days after seeing the doctor for severe dehydration, recieved 7 units of IV fluids, was in the hospital for 3 days and his hips and joints quit hurting. I don't think at 81 that dad should be starting to be treated with such a harsh drug as Prolia for Osteoporosis when he's not been treated for it all his life when his real reason for the doctor's appt was being dehydrated. So sick that he received this inj. Please call the FDA if you have problems. We need to get this off the market.
Thank you for this question. I asked several months ago on behalf of my now 69 year old sister, Unfortunately, she lives in Canada with socialized medicine and consequently government controlled lawsuits. As a U.S. Citizen I am very confused by the power of the drug lobby to keep this dangerous drug on the perscription pads. My sister had 3 treatments and is now over 6 months without and has experienced most pf the negative ide effects described We only prey that she live long enough to recover some quality of life. Unbelievable in the U.S.A. !!!
Yes, this definitely needs to be done. Main thing to do though is someboyd get a Class Action Suit going! I will join, just let know! Mian thing is to stop anyone else
from using drug. My Dr. never said anything about side effect just gave me brochure. Did not research it as far as this blog at the time. If you know anyone with same medical issues that might possibly be a candidate for using it, spread the word. You may lose a Dr. but if they are that uninformed then let them go!
Benny: So sorry to hear of your suffering. I agree it is upsetting when you contact Amgen and all they do is take reports. I have also had conflicting information from Amgen. Where can you get the correct information? The doctors are ill informed and don't know what to do when you complain about side effects. No safety net! I hope you feel better soon.
Joyce B. Thank you for the reply. Dads potassium has been okay so far but things are changing for him daily. I will keep track of that as well and thanks again.
I was given prolia because I only have one kidney and could not take other meds for osteoporsis . When I first saw Rheumo doc I mentioned concerns about this and supposidly she spoke to kidney doc and she approved . Last week I saw kidney doc and told her how terrible it had been and she told me people had to go on diaylis because Prolia caused kidney shut down . I now know Rheumo doc never talked to her , she would not have approved it for me .
I have had my second shot of prolia the begining of Nov. and now I have itchy spots on the left side of my back and itchy blotches on my left breast. My hot flashes are worse and sometimes my heart races. My first shot was fine, no side effects. i don't kno if I want to continue them. I'm hoping the side effcts don't last too long.
Well, I have had 2 prolia shots now, no s iou see effects. In fact, I don't think It's doing anything for me. I got tangled up with a little dog and his chain, fell hitting the sidewalk. I hit my elbow and crushed it, needing a new artificial implant 6 screws and a plate and broke my tibia in three places. I have been in a rehab since the Monday before Thanksgiving. I will be here until the end of February. My point is, I don't think it did a thing for me and it could have actually made things worse delaying healing time. I was all for this shot, now I won't be getting it again, my whole right side is broke and my doctor says my bones are as thin as a 6 year old. It's worthless.
as I previously stated I am not having my 2nd shot but I am going to try a natural supplement. It is called Osaplex. A friend of mine is on it and she said her bone density test has improved since she started using it.
I had my first injection on June 19, 2012. Nine days later I was at the ER. Some people who get the injection, for some odd reason, the meds seem to irritate areas of bone that is giving you problems. My ribs were so sore, I couldn't get a breath of air. the pain was horrible. Over the next six months I saw no improvement. So I never went back for the other injections. I always say, research and research and rhen make a decision. I don't know if you will see improvement after 1 injection. i didn't. So just use good judgement and make your decision.
The Dr.'s need to read and reply to this as they are ones pushing it. Also ER Dr.'s, they had no clue when I had to go (thought I was having a stroke). When I reported my experience to my Dr. (who would never call me back at time of ER visit), he shrugged it off! Fore-warned is Fore-armed!
You are so right. My poor 83 yo mother has been suffering since Oct from this shot. She is so tired, and has leg & back pain. Up until this shot, she was completely self sufficient. It took only 2 weeks after the shot for her to feel like she was going down hill. Complete lack of energy, weakness, and muscle pain are the worst parts for her. She is counting the days until it wears off- 6 more miserable weeks to go.
UPDATE : Its now 16 months since last injection . Still having hip pain and now effecting my beautiful teeth that I have worked 59 yrs to keep . Mom always told me your first opinion of someone should be by their teeth . In the last 6 months I developed 3 cavities and now nerve damage to another and needs to be pulled . NO DOUBT in my mind this med takes calcium from your body to make new . WISH I HAD NEVER and that doc had been able to inform me more of this !!!!!
